It went well. The estimator came out and educated me about retrofitting. I went under the house with him and he educated me about my home's foundations. I was not required to go under the home, in fact he said that most homeowners don't go under the home with the contractor. I just wanted to learn as much as possible about what he was going to do. He gave me a general estimate and he explained that he would need to get an engineer involved, for the permitting process. This was because my foundation did not have a sil. He explained that it would be a few months before his company would actually be able to perform the work. That was fine with me. The estimator and and workers were on time, completed the job, cleaned up their messes.

It was very good and they were very informative. They were also very responsive. It was done very quickly and they were efficient.

They were loud as one might expect working with jack hammers. They were pleasant and they left everything very clean, with fresh plastic sheeting over the area of the basement that was unfinished. Retrofitting is very important in this area. We selected Jackson because they have a long-standing reputation for being the go-to firm for retrofitting. We can only hope not to have much occasion to check on the effectiveness of the job.

We were completely satisfied with how this work was completed. Leif Jackson, the owner of Sound Seismic, was an effective educator, helping us to understand what a retrofit entails. We had a preference for when the work would be scheduled (both the start and ending dates) and he assured us he'd be able to accommodate our need. His bid for the work was the lowest of the three we received, and the enthusiastic comments of several of his former customers helped us make the decision to contract with his company. Matt, the lead carpenter, did most of the work and was excellent. He was punctual, eagerly answered our questions, and completed the retrofit and deck projects within the projected time frame. Mike, another Sound Seismic employee, assisted Matt on one day, and he, too, was professional and competent. Leif visited the site on the first day to assure himself that the work was proceeding as planned, and later consulted with Matt when an unanticipated difficulty came up with the deck-leveling. I was particularly impressed when I learned that Leif had vetoed a "short cut" that had made sense to me, insisting that a more expensive and extensive "proper" way of resolving the difficulty, with no additional charge to us, be followed. The precision of their work, the professionalism of their staff, the fact that the work began when it was scheduled and was completed within the planned time frame, and the care they gave to our home and the landscaping all converged to earn a top satisfaction rating from us.

When we met, I was impressed with their knowledge and experience. They came in with a realistic bid, were punctual, professional, and did quality work. They also did a good job on cleanup afterward. I recommend them to anyone needing a quality outfit that will get it right then first time.

We wanted to have the necessary earthquake retrofitting done to qualify for earthquake insurance. After talking to our insurance company and doing research on the internet, we found Sound Seismic to be highly recommended. I contacted Leif and setup an appointment for him to perform an evaluation and estimate. Leif arrived at the time scheduled and provided very detailed information regarding what is involved and required by the city. He even later sent me a PowerPoint presentation he had put together providing more details on earthquake retrofitting. When the estimated start date got closer, I had to contact Leif a couple of times to confirm the start date. Once the official date and time were set, Matt from Sound Seismic showed up on time and went right to work. He estimated the project would take 2 to 3 days, which turned out to be accurate. Matt was very good at providing progress updates throughout the duration of the project and after the first inspection was complete. The crew also did an excellent job cleaning up after each day and keeping dust to a minimum. After the second inspection was complete and the project signed off by the city, I asked the inspector his opinion of Sound Seismic, and he said they are one of the best, which just strengthened my confidence in the quality of work performed.

They seemed very honest, forward and were easy to talk with. Also, they were prompt about following up on their service.

Erik was very helpful. The estimate was not detailed and it was much higher than the others I got. There was no way to compare the estimate to another because only the final price was given. If it wasn't so high I would have gone with them since they seemed to be a very trustworthy and ecological company.

They did an excellent job. The whole experience from start to finish was excellent. When they came out they told us what would need to be done, how it would be done and how much it would cost. We set a date and they came. They did the work exactly as they said they would. There were no surprises. The communication with the contractor throughout the process was excellent. The crewmember that came out to do the work did a fantastic job of cleanup afterwards. It was just excellent from start to finish. Because of the work they did we were able to get earthquake insurance, which we had not been able to qualify for previously. We would use them again and we would recommend them to any of our friends.

They were professional and they came when they said they were going to come. They came early and they called me to ask if it was okay to start the work earlier. They explained everything to me. It seemed like a reasonable price for the work because I looked at other people?s descriptions on retrofitting on Angieslist. The price seemed right in line with what I was expecting.

My experience with them was very good. They were upfront about the work that would be needed to be done, about the cost and about the specific changes that would be required. In general, they had a high level of professionalism. They were on schedule, did a good job and cleaned up afterwards. They actually returned calls, which seems to be rare with contractors. I haven?t had other work of this sort done before. They did a really good job overall. They were very good about scheduling and estimates, and did quality work. They were one of the few providers in the area who would do the work - I thought the price was reasonable. I would use them again in the future.

I can't assume that they'd be very responsive during construction, considering their rigidity during initial contacts.

I wish to praise SOUND SEISMIC for the earthquake retrofit they completed on my home. From the estimate to the finished job, Leif, Ryan and Jesse were professional, hard working, pleasant and exceptionally CLEAN. They handled the permit and inspections seamlessly. Office support from Elizabeth was equally professional, reliable and fast. I can't describe everything so I'll just say the whole experience was great.

On Feb. 27,2009 Ryan and his helper arrived on time and got started on this, structurally engineered and contracted job. It was estimated to take approximately one week to complete this work. The job was completed on Mar. 5 with great professionalism and dedication to the work completed. The work passed a city inspection with no additional work required. The quality of work is excellant with attention to detail.

The experience was very good. I was able to reach him quickly and easily on the phone. I made an evening appointment. He was late to the appointment but he did call.

They had to sub contract a company to do some repairs to the basement and that company didn't do a good job. Although Seismic did a good job on their part, they weren't very helpful when dealing with the sub contractor in order to satisfy us and that is the reason I wouldn't hire them again. Their price was average and there was some confusion in the scheduling. They brought a portable potty and it took them two weeks after the work was done for them to pick it up. I wouldn't recommend them because I think there are better companies out there.

On 20th, August. Ryan and Eric arrived on time and got started on the job which was estimated to take approx. one week. The job was completed on 22 Aug. with great professionalism and dedication to the job, giving 110%.

I was very happy with quality of the work and the way the crew kept the site clean and organized every day. They stick to a firm 8-hour work day for their employees and offer health benefits, a rarity in the contract world, it would seem. So their bid was not the lowest, however was comparable to a number of other firms, within 5-10%. Very punctual and professional in all coordination and in handling the 2 inspections reqd. by the city. No surprises or additional costs. I would recommend this contractor overall.
