From my first meeting with Byron I was confident I had the right contractor. His professionalism from start to finish is something that is hard to come by these days. Byron went the extra mile, from samples to quotes to work and follow-up - the whole experience was first class. It's easy to see he loves what he does and the results really prove it. My condo is in a 1960s building and, due to some quirks in the original construction as well as some lingering but subtle effects of the 2001 earthquake, the path from what I wanted to Byron making it happen included some challenging and unexpected bumps in the road. Byron was able to come up with a practical and affordable solution to every problem, whether small like uneven floors or major like 30 ft window ledges made of 2x12 and concrete that needed to be lowered to accommodate the new quartz Zodiaq. Byron was also able to put me in touch with terrific suppliers, from a custom vanity to shower door to hardware to tile and carpet and interior doors. That Byron and his workers were courteous and professional goes without saying. I could set my watch by their arrival each morning, and at the end of the day everything was cleaned and swept and put away. That in itself was much appreciated since many rooms were in play at the same time. I am delighted by the final results and can highly recomment Puget Ridge Construction.
Description of Work: Entry, guest bath, living/dining/den, master bedroom, replace all interior doors and baseboards. Entry: Install new flooring, closet doors, baseboards. Guest bath: Complete demo. Tile floor and shower, custom vanity, quartz countertop, new sink and shower fixtures, replace door. Living/dining/den: Replace tile window ledges with quartz, new carpet, replace doors and baseboards. Master bedroom: Replace doors and baseboards.

We initially hired Byron to install a number of mouldings in our house, but as he finished each section of work, we were so happy with the results that we looked for more areas where he could help us put finishing touches on this 1903 house. He was always willing to brainstorm new ideas with us and always agreed to add new projects to the list, which required that he adjust the work schedule of his crew to accommodate us. I vividly remember discussing new projects with him in the morning, before I left for work, and then finding the work finished when I came home ! I was trying very hard to keep up with the painting of the mourldings he installed, and it was difficult to do so because he was so diligent and efficient.. The results were amazing. For months after he finished, I would sit in one of the rooms he had finished and enjoy staring at the results. Byron has also done other projects for us which have been described in reports in the sections on fencing and decks/porches. He is an extremely versatile builder/carpenter. It is always a wonderful to have Bryon and his staff at our house. Our entire family enjoys having him here and are sad when he leaves, even though we are delighted with the results. I would recommend Bryon to anyone!
Description of Work: In 2007, Byron worked with us on a number of inside carpentry projects. These included installation of ceiling, floor and chair rail mouldings, designing and installing mouldings around opening between kitchen and dining room and on small landing between first and second story which had previously been an unfinished eyesore, wall repairs, and various other carpentry projects.

This is our 3rd major project which Byron Jacobson has done. As with the first two projects, he came promptly to offer us a bid, worked with us on design, at every step of the project, finished in a timely manner and produced excellent results. He is a delight to have at our house and we always look forward to his being here. He interacts with our family, keeps our pets safe when he is entering or leaving our house or yard, and listens patiently when we consider building options or ask questions. I am hoping to write a report about our earlier experiences with Byron, under other building categories, since he has done extensive work for us, both inside and outside our house. The fence was the most recent project, but he also rebuilt our entire front porch, including replacement of rotted beams which hold up the roof over the porch. At that time, he worked with us to plan a porch which replicated the original design of the house, which was built in 1903. We had pictures from the Seattle Archives and he helped us to find materials which would most closely match those of the original house. The new porch has changed the appearance of our house dramatically, has increased its value significantly and has allowed us to carry out our original plan to return certain elements of this house to their original state. Prior to that, Byron worked with us on the inside to install mouldings in every room of our house, to fix damaged walls and floors and to do various carpentry projects which we had not previoulsy been able to finish. In many cases, he would discuss an unfinished project with my husband or me, show us options for building materials and designs, and then complete the project within one day. His work at our house was extended because we continued to find things which he could help us fix. During his time here, Byron and his staff bonded with every member of our family and we actually felt like he was a member of the family. He was here when our kids came home from school and they became friends with him. He took care of small issues which arose during the day, regarding our pets and our children. On one occasion, our teenage son had been dispatched to pick up a garden table and bring it home on the top of the car. On the way home, the box came loose from the car and fell onto the street. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but our son was very upset over the experience and neither of his parents were home. So, Byron, took our son in his truck to the place where the box had fallen, and retrieved the contents. This is just one example of the kind of person Byron is. In terms of his work, everything he does is beautiful and completed with great attention to detail. We would hire him to do any and all future building projects in this house and would recommend his services to anyone.
Description of Work: Bryon Jacobson, from Puget Ridge Construction, and another member of his staff, helped us with a large fencing project. He helped us with the design, checked property lines and spoke with neighbors about existing fences on adjoining property, bought materials, removed old section of fencing, rebuilt new fence to match existing fence on opposite side of property, removed and recycled scraps of lumbar from his project and from earlier projects we had done, and built us a beautful new fence with new gaits and cement steps to enter the yard.

The new porch is beautiful and it looks like the original design. It has changed the outside appearance of our house dramatically. Please see report under Puget Sound Construction/Fencing for more details of our experience with Byron Jacobson and his crew. He is a highly skilled builder and craftsman, who pays great attention to detail, is an excellent problem solver, and maintains high standards for his work. He is also a wonderful person to have around our house. Everyone in our family, people and pets included, have bonded with him. When he is here, he is an extension of our family. He listens patiently when we discuss building options and materials, finds us the exact materials we want and need, and finishes the project in a timely manner with results which exceed our expectations. We are always happy with his work, but sad to see him go.
Description of Work: Rebuilding of large front porch with overhanging roof: The house was built in 1903 and had been remodeled in the 1950's using rod iron porch railings and roof supports. We had pictures of the original design from Seattle Archives and wanted to restore the porch to something close to its original design. Additonally, the beams which held up the roof over thr porch and part of our upstairs were sagging and rotting. Byron replaced the entire porch structure, the railings and posts, and the front porch decking. He resurfaced the front steps and the front walkway.

My fence posts are still in place waiting for the city SDOT to perform a field investigation at which point the posts may stay and I pay a fine and a yearly permit fee or I may have to move the post in 5'. As to what Mr. Jacobson gets out of this I can only speculate.
Description of Work: Byron Jacobson of Puget Ridge Construction in West Seattle gave me an estimate that was out of my price range for a fence job. 3 months later I had another fence company just put in the posts for me to finish the rest. A few days after the posts were in I received a Street Use Warning from the city saying a citizen had complained that the posts were too close to the street. Public Disclosure gave me the information about the complaint and it was Mr. Jacobson. Clearly he is disgruntled that he did not get the job yet not once did he ever call to follow up on his initial bid or offer any other help. Shame on him.
