It went great! Progressive Tech initially diagnosed the problem, proposed solutions, and implemented my chosen fix. They then discovered that what had appeared to be a corruption of the operating system was actually an intermittent failure of the hard drive, they contacted me, got the okay to order and install a new drive and performed the work efficiently. Because I had provided backups on an external drive, they were then able to restore my computer to its original configuration. They did not charge me for the time spent dealing with the supposed OS corruption, only for the diagnosis, parts and installation of the new drive. I whole heartedly recommend them!
Description of Work: The hard drive on my Mac was failing intermittently.

They were very helpful.
Description of Work: My harddrive died on my laptop. They did the assessment and shared options with me. They were very patient with my questions--both through phone calls and in person. I would highly recommend them if you don't know what has happened to your computer and want some honest answers as you think through your next steps.

The company representative listened carefully to my explanation of the problems affecting use of my MacBook Air, explained in language I, as a technology neanderthal, could understand how they would perform the diagnosis, and they fixed the problems in less time and at a lower cost than I had expect. I recommend Progressive Tech without reservation.

They did a good job very quickly at an expected price. The tech who fixed the computer left in place a setting that made it impossible for me to fully start the computer without returning to the store to have it reset. The company apologized but did not offer any recompense for my extra time and travel. That would have been the right thing to do and would have guaranteed my return as a customer.

My home computer failed to boot one day. It was without warning, and I hadn't done a backup for over a month. Progressive Tech recovered my data quickly, and for about 1/3 the price one of the big chain stores quoted. They are professional and very good at communicating what can be done and what it will cost. I will use them again.

Great.
Description of Work: When my 5 year old laptop suddenly would not start one day, I took it to my neighborhood computer repair place. After having the laptop for 24 hours, they said that the harddrive was not responding and they couldn't do anything to recover my files. After my panic attach, I did some research and found ProTech. I gave them a call and from the very start, they were courteous, attentive, realistic and encouraging. I took my laptop in on Tuesday, August 30th. They performed a diagnostic and called me with a thorough quote on Wednesday afternoon. Although my harddrive was corrupt, they were able to retrieve the data and also quoted to repair my laptop. Because my laptop was 5 years old, and I already knew that I was going to need another one soon, I decided not to repair it. I dropped off an external harddrive on which to save my data and I picked up the harddrive with my salvaged data on Saturday, Sept 3rd. I have since then uploaded my data to a new laptop and I cannot find that anything is missing. Progressive Tech gave me the harddrive from my old laptop (in the event I ever need to recover the data again) and I elected to leave the laptop with them, so they could give it to a recycling company with whom they work. I understand that I was very lucky, but if these guys would have had to deliver bad news to me, I would have felt that they had done their level best to recover my information.

see above, I combined the two.
Description of Work: The firm has 3 or 4 categories for which you pay a fixed price for priority of service. Top level gets your computer seen that day--cost equals $99--with the next level getting your computer seen during the next 5 days at a lesser cost (I believe $49) and so forth. However, at the $99 dollar option the service can be interrupted, if another computer with the same option arrives for service. I chose the $99 option and told them at the outset what to do: My computer needed a new graphics card and to replace with something comparable. The card they eventually chose cost $120. They began to run an extensive diagnostic test of my entire computer which was ongoing when I called back the next day and told them to stop and simply replace my graphics card. They also alleged that my hard drive (Seagate) had a problem with its firmware and would cost $60 to replace (they described the terrible things that would ensue without replacement). I never had a problem with the drive, but wondered what might happen should I refuse. That was the feeling I was left with after a couple of days experience with these guys, so I opted for the firmware replacement. So, for a $120 graphics card my final bill was $420 (about 25% of the cost of the computer). Oh, and it took about a week. I opted for high priority because I need my computer for work. They also have a long list of disclaimers that are not revealed until after you sign on for service, ostensibly to save paper. You sign a contract which is emailed to you along with the disclaimers. So I had a bad feeling from the start, but had invested $99 and decided to tough it out. Avoid Progressive Tech. The computer works, but at what cost? There are other and better options out there.

Overall, the price was good as they explained everything beforehand. The only issue we had was that they misplaced our old hard drive that we had originally requested to keep. They eventually found it, but we had to make a second trip to pick it up. We would definitely recommend them to others and will go back for any future computer needs.
Description of Work: Ran a full computer scan and installed a new internal hard drive for our Dell laptop.

I wasn’t all that happy with them. They kept adding on charges. They were very forthright on what those were, but it seemed like they were really expensive for what we got. So I ended up getting my computer back and I am working on it myself now. They had my computer for at least 10 days. I spent $89 for the quick service. They have three different levels of service. If you are willing to wait for two weeks, then it is $29 and if you want your computer back anytime soon, then it costs $89. I gave them $89 since I wanted my computer back. That service includes diagnosing that tells you what’s wrong with your computer and then there is an add-on charge for everything that you want to do in order to fix it. In my case, they had to work on an external hard drive to do a backup, but it turned out that my external hard drive wasn’t fine. They wanted to charge me $129 for just a backup and another $129 for my external drive. That’s when I told them not to fix it. I might use them in the future, but it totally depends on what it is for. They were willing to work with me on the price. They would have cut the price in half for me and they would have worked on both by basically charging for one. So they were willing to try and make it work.

At approximately 5:30pm on Monday, November 8, someone spilled a full 12 or more ounces of tea directly onto the keyboard of one of our ThinkPad laptops. An immediate call to Progressive Tech prompted the technician to advise us to make sure the laptop had been disconnected from the wall outlet, the battery removed, the hard drive removed, and any visible traces of liquid blotted dry. Meanwhile, they cautioned us, do not make any attempts to restart it as it should be brought into the shop immediately for disassembly, thorough drying, and evaluation. We could not get there by 7pm that evening (their closing time) but brought it in promptly at 10am (opening time) on the following morning, remembering to bring the AC Adapter as well. They started work on it immediately, kept us advised of their progress throughout the day, and by 6:30pm Tuesday, November 9, they returned the laptop to us fully tested and ready to be used again. According to the technician, liquid had indeed pooled inside the laptop, including the processor and cooling unit. The expert initial advice as well as the same day service minimized our down time and provided us with confidence that the entire inside of the laptop had been inspected, dried, cleaned, and prepared for safe continued usage.

All the technicians I worked with to fix my computer were knowledgeable and professional. I highly recommend Progressive Tech, and will seek their services again, if needed.
Description of Work: I brought my HP Pavillion laptop into Progressive Tech because the screen was flickering. I opted for the standard service review of up to 5 business days for diagnosis ($49.95). I was called within this time frame and told that the screen would need to be replaced, and given the option to purchase a new screen for $129 (plus $10 S&H), or purchase a reconditioned screen that Progressive Tech had in stock, for $95.95, plus $69.95 for labor. I purchased the used screen, and the screen was replaced within 24 hours.

Upon boot, the message stated “SQLDUMPER library failed initialization … Please uninstall … re-run setup to correct this problem.” I spent a couple of hours at home attempting to find a comfortable solution. I tried internet searches and various reference books but they all rapidly became a trip into impossibly dense procedures related to re-installing software via the Microsoft.com site. Chris asked me if I had recently uninstalled any programs using a peripheral scanner. I had. He suggested that uninstalling that program may have left behind the VSS Writer program as an orphan. The error message disappeared. I did not in fact need to re-run setup.
Description of Work: I brought my laptop into their store when I kept receiving an error message related to the Microsoft SQL Server program. Chris suggested that I go to Control Panel, Remove Programs, and observed that I had two Microsoft SQL Server programs on my computer. One "Native Client" (41.2MB) and another "VSS Writer" (.66MB). He identified the "VSS Writer" as the one I didn't need. I selected it for removal. The error message has never been seen again on my laptop. The entire exchange took only seconds. He did not charge me for the service.
