After we bought our house, we peeked under the wall-to-wall carpeting the "Real Estate Flipper" had put down to stage the place. Zach came over and took a look at it and it seemed like the oak floor beneath would be a straight forward sand-and-refinish job. By the time the carpet was all up and the staples, tacks and nails were yanked out, it was clear that the floors were unusually abused by the previous owner and by the contractors that "flipped" the place. Gobsmacked at some of the abuse we found under that wall-to-wall carpeting, Zach sighed and said "I have learned to stop asking why something was done, and to just ask how it can be fixed." And fix it he did! Zach ended up not only sanding and refinishing the floor but replacing a piece of the floor - joists, subfloor and boards to boot - and, considering it was a 62 year-old floor, he did a good job matching the new to the old. Although this added to the initial estimate for the amount of work needed, the additional cost was very fair and the job was still finished on time. He worked primarily while we were out of the house and he proved to be very trustworthy (I had no problem giving him keys), even tidying up after himself each night. It was by no means a straightforward job without surprises, and where many contractors might use this as an opportunity to take advantage of the client, Zach was on the level at every turn. We will definitely use him again.
Description of Work: Purchased a house with wall-to-wall carpeting, and finding there was hardwood floors beneath in some of the rooms, we wanted to refinish them. Since we were moving in, we had a limited period to refinish about 350sf of abused oak floor were underneath the carpet - including a section of floor missing boards and replaced with random pieces of plywood and tile mortar. Zach was able to do everything required to complete the job, and did so on time and at a very reasonable price.

He did a great job of blending the new finish with an adjacent finish. He was also careful to contain the dust in the work area. The work was completed on schedule
Description of Work: Zach refinished the hardwood floors in two bedrooms and a hallway.

They were a good company, but we chose another company. Their quote was the highest.
Description of Work: We got a quote from Pacific Hardwood Floors few weeks ago.

Contractor showed up, reviewed work to be done. As these were engineered floors, he recommended getting in touch with the original provider to match the wood. He did estimate the job if he had to do the repair with matching wood slats. He seemed to be professional and wanted to do quality work, not just get a job. I will use this company if the original installer is unable to complete the work.
Description of Work: Called and asked for a quote on repairing wood flooring. Contractor showed up and estimated job.

Zach did a great job! We had a few weeks before we moved into the new house, so Zach worked on his own over a two week period. The existing hardwoods that were covered with carpet look beautiful again, and we love the new hardwoods in the living room and kitchen. Zach did a great job and was a pleasure to have around. Will definitely recommend to friends and neighbors!
Description of Work: Zach removed old carpet in the bedrooms and vinyl in the kitchen and family room. He refinished the existing hardwoods in the four bedrooms and hallway, and installed and finished new red oak floors in the living room and kitchen. (Cost included new flooring and a lot of prep work--removing doors, baseboards, and appliances.)

They were very responsive and really good. The owner picked up the phone and came out within a day or two to give us a quote. He gave me several options at different price points. They were able to commence work within two weeks after making things very clear to me. There were no surprises. The quality of the work including the quality of clean-up was excellent. The place was just spotless.
Description of Work: We used Pacific Hardwood Floors to do a refinishing job.

They re-sanded the existing floor before re-finishing it. It looks wonderful now. They did the floors in two small rooms, one big room and a hall. They did the job when we were out of town for a week. The job was done by the time we got back. They were good about cleaning up after themselves. Initially they quoted a very high price but later they agreed to scale it down to match some of the lower bids I got from other contractors.
Description of Work: Pacific Hardwood Floors redid the floors in my house in late May.

Zach responded immediately and came to my home promptly to look over the project and give me a verbal estimate (ballpark). The estimate was perfectly reasonable, I was impressed with the report I had read on Angie's List and I liked him immensely, so I told him to go ahead with the repair work. He started on the project within a few days and was finished with the repairs within a few more. He agreed to sand and apply finish to the floors in two parts: he did the south rooms and hall during a week I arranged to be out of town, and came back to do the north rooms. His respect for old fir floors is evident and I love my newly refurbished flooring, warts and all; it is, after all, almost 100 years old and its visible history adds to the charm of the whole house.
Description of Work: Repaired badly damaged hall flooring, two areas where old living room registers had been, and a broken board by the front door using old flooring I had purchased at the Restore; sanded living room, dining room, office, hall, and downstairs bedroom fir floors and applied three coats of water based finish.

Zach showed the greatest appreciation of our fir floor from the start (contrast to others who immediately recommended covering it with new oak). He is a delight to work with and a straight-shooter. He quoted a fair price and was upfront about his schedule. We had already moved our household goods into a storage container in anticipation of another contractor starting work (they backed out on the day they were supposed to start). Zach thought one of his jobs was going to be delayed, which might allow him to start within a week. He called back to confirm his availability. Zach started on schedule and worked to completion without interruption, even though our job took longer than he had allowed. He is a master at weaving the patches into the existing floor - I challenge anyone to find where the patches are! The floor is beautiful. Zach is a bit hesitant to ask for extra compensation for extra work he does, so we had to ask him to tell us what we owed him the adds.
Description of Work: Patch and refinish 850 square feet of badly worn fir floor in the living, dining, kitchen, bath, and two bedrooms on the main floor of a 100-year-old home. Included patching and lacing 95 sq. ft. of missing or badly damaged flooring using material removed from one bedroom, then installing 150 sq. ft of salvaged (2nd hand) flooring in that bedroom. Used Swedish Finish. Zach promptly touched up a couple of areas where the finish did not meet my very fussy standards.
