Mike Gill's Piano Tuning & Repair

I found Mike here on Angie's List when we needed to have our older piano tuned. We have an 80 year old baby grand that was moved to our home last year but had not been tuned since the move. We have out of town guests arriving soon who love to play the piano so we had a need to find a quality tuner quickly. After seeing so many great reviews for Mike Gill I gave him a call and we were able to get on the books right away for a Saturday afternoon tune which worked perfectly with our schedule. Mike just finished the work and he was great. Mike and his partner Pam are very professional and friendly -- and our piano sounds amazing! The job took about 1 hour. To give a fair review I should mention that Mike was running quite a bit behind schedule so he gave me a call ahead of time and asked if I was available 2 hours after our scheduled appointment time. This was OK with us since we were home anyway and I appreciated the heads up phone call. So our 3pm appointment became a 5pm appointment. Not a big deal though and I'd happily call Mike again for any future work. I also highly recommend Mike to anybody else with piano tuning needs. I understand he also does other kinds of piano work such as reconditioning, rebuilding, etc, but we only needed a tune.

My piano had been moved twice this year and was not in the best tune. The tuner did his magic within an hour and we have sweet music again. Very friendly duo!

Great service at a great price. Usually I feel uncomfortable when I have servicemen in my home, but I didn't feel that way at all with Mike and his driver (Mike is visually impaired). The entire piano tuning took about an hour and then he took some extra time to tell me a little bit about the piano and how to care for it going forward. I really enjoyed that.

He is very accommodating, talented and an honest pleasant person. It went well. He found some legs that work fine.

We have this old piano that needed work. It was out of tune and there were keys that were sticking. I called and they were able to fit me in the very next day. They showed up on time and got right to work. They tuned and repaired the piano within a few hours. When they finished, they ran us through the State of the Piano and answered all our questions. I paid them with a check, and in my opinion, they were dirt cheap. I mentioned that this was an old player piano, and that I'd like to get the mechanism up and running again. They said that they could do that, and as soon as I can haul said mechanism out of the attic, I'll be calling them back.

We visited Mike's (small) piano shop having heard he rents and sells pianos in addition to being a wonderful tuner. We were looking for a piano that would sound great and weren't too interested in a finely restored the exterior. He had a small selection but we found just what we were looking for.

Mike did a wonderful job of tuning the piano and assured us that we had made a wise investment. We definitely recommend him to others.

We recently purchased a vintage upright piano from a private seller. Knowing that the piano would need some work beyond a basic tuning, I decided I wanted someone who was a member of the Piano Technicians Guild. After seeing all of the excellent reviews people left about Mike Gill and seeing that he was a PTG registered technician, I thought I'd give him a try. I called to make an appointment and got a hold of someone right away. I wanted to schedule an appointment at a time that would allow my husband to be present. Mike, and the others I spoke to, were all very helpful and accomodating. The services that Mike provided required two separate appointments. On the first appointment, Mike performed the tuning of our piano. Understanding that Mike is an aural tuner (tunes by ear) I figured he would need things to be very quiet. However, he was able to tune our piano perfectly even though my very chatty 5 year old was in the same room. Knowing that the bridle straps on the piano needed to be replaced, I asked Mike if the piano needed any other work. He made some recommendations (in a way that a piano newbie could understand) and gave me an estimate that was very reasonable. I approved the work and he took the action back to his shop and said it would be ready in two weeks. I figured on the second appointment, Mike would put everything back together and that would be that. I was pleasantly surprised when he proceeded to remove the keys to clean under them, level the keys and give me a key that would work in the fallboard lock...all without charging me extra. The cost of all the services matched his original estimate exactly. Long story short, I was beyond pleased and I will absolutely call Mike for my future piano needs. Additionally, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone that needs the services of a piano technician. Thanks Mike for all your help and for making our new piano sound beautiful!!!

Mike and his driver/partner Pam arrived about 15 minutes late. They had called as they were having a bit of trouble finding my home. Once they arrived, Mike went to work immediately on my Young Chang console piano. He clarified what I wanted, and then spent almost 2 hours fixing the piano. We moved to Seattle about 11 years ago, and I realized near the end of Mike's work, that he had tuned the piano after our arrival. I had not remembered his name and found him on Angie's list. The piano belonged to my sons. Both moved away and no longer want it. So I wanted to sell it and make sure it was in good condition, realizing that it will need to be tuned after it is moved. Mike worked hard, found a key that I knew was stuck but I could not find myself, and did a fantastic job in all he did. He gave me the value of the piano, told me that if anyone interested wanted to talk to him about the piano, he would be happy to do so. His price was quite reasonable and I'd be delighted to recommend him to others.

Even though he arrived a little late, the piano was done as scheduled and it sounds great! He even replaced a part for free. Thanks MIke!

After moving from Southern California to Washington in the middle of winter, my piano was in very bad tune. I couldn't even stand to hear it or play it. I chose Mike Gill, from Angie's list to do the work, because he had the most number of reviews, and not one of them had anything unfavorable to say about him. I called him on Friday, and he was able to come out the very next business day (he doesn't operate on weekends). He scheduled me for 1:30 pm, but when he found himself available earlier, he called to see if I was available for him to come sooner. He arrived promptly after the call. He and his assistant were very pleasant, and Mike went to work right away. In spite of being blind, he took the piano apart all on his own and put it back together without assistance as well. He spent 2 hours tuning, and did an incredible job. I have perfect pitch, so I listened as he was tuning, and was very impressed with how astute his skills are. He packed up quickly and was gone, leaving no trace that he had been there, except for the finely tuned instrument he left me with. His rates were very fair and what I expected. I will definitely call him when my piano needs tuning again, and I won't wait so long to do it next time.

Mike arrived on time and went right to work. My piano hadn't been tuned in years and I was doubtful that it would ever sound the same; however, Mike worked on it for approximately an hour and a half and it sounded like new when he finished. I'll ask him back for an annual tune-up!

He was prompt and did the job quickly. The service was worth the money

Mike did a great job tuning my 1924 Steinway upright - not something I trust to just anyone! Mike know his pianos and has a great ear. His companion was also professional and friendly.

Mike was knowledgeable and gave me a very accurate estimate. Mike had to wait for the parts to come in, which took quite a bit longer than originally thought, but I did get a phone call from him letting me know the delayed status. He then returned and worked on the piano ALL DAY AND EVENING. I am sure it took much longer than he expected (by about 3 or 4 hours), but the estimated price was what I was charged. He is a lovely man and his assistant was very nice and professional. It is amazing that this man is blind and is so talented and can do all this work on pianos. I am a stickler for customer service and Mike and his team are great. I would hire him again in a minute.

Mike and his assistant Pam did an appraisal for a used piano I was thinking of buying. They took the time to understand my long term needs and then assess how much I needed to invest in tuning and restoration of the piano. Their prompt service and honest evaluation really impressed me. I won't hesitate to use them again.

Mike tuned a baby grand piano for us that had been moved across the country. It took about 2 hours and I am so pleased with the very thorough job he did. The piano sounds absolutely wonderful. Mike and his assistant were very personable and professional. They came out the very next day after I had called to schedule the work, they were on time, and the price was very reasonable, especially given the quality of the work. You can't ask for much more! I highly recommend his service.

It was approximately 7 days from the time I called until Mike tuned my piano. It hadn't been tuned for 3 years and he did an excellent job. Mike was on time -- even a little early and spent extra time identifying a tinny sound on one of my keys. He was extremely professional and comes with an assistant. I will definitely call him next year and I'm one of the pickey "Angie's List" members.
