Steve reputed over 100 holes from a full house rewire. He was incredibly efficient, punctual, and detail-oriented when providing a very high quality plaster repair. His orange peel texturing matched the original wall perfectly. We would hire him in a heartbeat and recommend others to do the same.

Three phone messages and two emails all went unanswered. I find this not only unprofessional but rude. If you don't want business don't advertise but if you're going to put your business on Angie's list then ought to at least return people's calls when they ask to give you money.

Steve's skill and experience in plaster repair is outstanding. He worked hours straight over 2 days repairing cracks and blending textures to match original surfaces. I was worried there would be plaster dust everywhere in my living room, hallway and bedrooms, but Steve contained everything within lightweight plastic drop cloths from the ceiling and plastic protection over the carpets. Using water in his process made it virtually dust free. Other trades people coming into my home for renovation projects have all commented on the excellent job he did. He's busy ... It took a while to get on his schedule, but it was worth the wait.

Steve is AMAZING. This guy is an artist with plaster. He completely fixed and resurfaced all the walls of a bedroom and stairwell, and repaired walls in my living room. He's a little hard to get, because he's so good that he stays busy all the time, but extremely worth the wait. He does the work himself and he's been doing it for years. He was efficient, on time, respectful, tidy...and above all did incredible work. The old peeling walls are now velvety smooth. I couldn't be more pleased with his work or recommend him more highly. Keep emailing and be patient...you may have to wait a bit until he has time to do your project. You will not regret it.

This was the second time we hired Steve to do work at our house, and we are just reviewing now as we joined Angie's List. Steve is a true professional, has profound knowledge of his trait, does beautiful work, is honest, reasonably priced, and to top it off he is a really nice guy. We had some water damage on a corner of the bedroom ceiling. Previous unimpressive contractors said that the ceiling was about to collapse and suggested covering the ceiling with sheet rock, which wouldn't have worked with the moldings on the wall, so we decided to wait and call Steve - so glad we did! Steve came in and did an evaluation of the area. He found that there was no serious damage, and explained why having covered the area with sheet rock would have been a bad idea (no place where it could be firmly attached, among others). He also discovered that the ceiling was covered with wall paper, that is why the area damaged seemed to be much worse than what it really was. He explained exactly what he found, what he would do, and how that would solve the problem. Clear and honest to the core. So much of the work involved removing the old wall paper (which was a pain), repairing the corner that had damage, and then smoothing the whole ceiling. His work was, as always, beautiful, and his price was lower than the band-aid the previous contractors had suggested. He carefully covers all the area to avoid any damage to furniture, floors, etc. When he worked on our ceiling, he used stilts to move around. He is detail oriented, and leaves the place absolutely clean when he is done - an art in an of itself considering he works with plaster. He was always cheerful, happy to answer questions and share knowledge. It was fascinating to see pictures of different project he has worked on. I would recommend Steve without hesitation to anyone that needs plaster work done in their home. I just wish we could clone him so we could have more Steves in the construction industry. Thank you!

Description of Work: Came by the house to look at the potential plaster repair in a 1931 house, He gave me options but at no point did her try to sell me on the expensive fix. He explained all options, and gave me an unwritten ballpark estimate. It turned out I didn't need to use Lux as my nephew is experienced in this work and did the work himself.

I can?t say enough good things about Lux & Steve Irish. Not only did he do the best mudding job I?ve ever seen, he came in $100.under estimate. My house is 90 years old and the expanse he plastered was huge, but yet it looks as smooth as glass (before it was a nasty popcorn ceiling) I also have an 80yo mother that lives with me and Steve was just great with her.

Because it is just Steve and his coworker, we needed to wait a few weeks before he could get to our project. We did quite a bit of "telephone tag" because of my work schedule and Steve's, but once we got connected via e-mail, the communication was great! Steve and his coworkers are are very skilled in what they do (artists). Every project they took on was done perfectly from taking care of the holes through the texture that matched the rest of the walls. They also did a great job of taping and plastic to protect our belongings, made things so we could get to things at night, and cleaned up very well. (See comments above for further details of work done.) I would definitely have them back and would highly recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Steve repaired the lathe and plaster in every room our 100+ year old home including more 40 holes made by the recent complete rewire of the house plus repair of a previously poorly done couple of walls for furnace ductwork, damage around 2 chimneys, major ceiling cracks and peeling repaired (10 foot ceilings), and other miscellaneous damage done over the 100+ years..

Steve really knows his way around old houses. I highly recommend him. His work is quality and he has fair prices. Our texture in the living room was very distinct and Steve took the time to match it well. Once it is painted it is going to look so great! The clean up was good and because he took a lot of care with tape and plastic drop sheets in each room there wasn't dust on our belongings. I really appreciate his professionalism and workmanship!
Description of Work: Steve repaired the lath and plaster walls in every room of our 1938 bungalow. Careless electricians managed to damaged every single wall and ceiling space with an electrical upgrade project. The holes ranged in size from screw holes to the largest which was 12"x 24" and required repositioning the light switch.

.Perfect, I was so worried that i would not be able to find someone to fix the large hole in my foyer after a tub leak. The plumber had to go through the ceiling to get to the old plumbing in my 104 year old house. Several areas had to be cut out to fix everything I had a few rather high estimates and most came with a rude attitude. Then living areas had an unusual l pattern from the 1920"s called Jazz. He was able to fix the creak and redo the pattern to match the rest of the rooms. Great job

Steve is truly a master at his work. He completed plaster repair in our kitchen, hallway, master bath and one bedroom. It involved a LOT of painstaking work. We have plaster-and-lath walls and they were completely torn apart due to decades of wear and tear, then remodeling and demolition. Our place was an absolute mess! We were told by several contractors that there was no way to repair the walls. We had bids to tear down the originals and put up drywall, or to patch the drywall extensively. All those bids were double or even triple the estimate we got from Steve. Steve was certain that he could repair our plaster and make everything look beautiful. Despite all the naysayers, we trusted Steve and hired him. We were thrilled with the result! He worked diligently and patiently. He treated our home with great care. But best of all, he made our walls and ceilings look fantastic! Wow! We watched through the entire process and could see that he really knew what he was doing. Everything was done in such a careful and professional manner. Afterwards, the walls looked so spectacular that we couldn't stop touching them! Many workmen who have entered our home since then have had the same reaction -- they can't help but reach out and touch our walls. Everyone asks who did this work in our house, and people are clearly impressed. On a financial note -- Steve gave us various options to help us manage costs, and kept me informed of incurring costs through each stage of the process. There were no surprises when the bill came. Steve truly is remarkable, and I'd trust him with any home.

Steve was punctual in his bid to do the repair and for the actual repair itself. He was very honest with me about his schedule and we had to change dates for the work a few times due my renter's schedules. Steve was very flexible and arrived to do the repair as we had planned and completed the work ahead of schedule. He did an excellent job!

Steve did a phenomenal job in our bathroom. Walls and ceiling are flat, true, and gorgeous. We waited a couple months for him to complete a big project he was working on (make sure to have him bring his photo book!) and we're so happy we did. We will be working with Steve again for plaster needs our 1910 home throws at us. Nobody else will be considered.

Our 1940s home was in a terrible state- the original textured plaster had many holes from remodeling and many severe cracks. "Restoration" almost seems like the wrong term to use for a job that made this house more beautiful than it was when it was originally built. Steve smoothed out all the texture and did a perfectly smooth finish on all the plaster, including curved archways and a difficult cove ceiling. When we increased the scope of the work after Steve started, he added in the additional work at an incredibly modest price increase and STILL got the job finished as originally scheduled. Steve also work very clean- all work areas were expertly masked and protected and the parts of the house not being worked on remained completely clean during the job. I really can't say enough good things about the job Steve did. I have taken to calling him the Master of Plaster, although some say he is also known as the Professor of Plaster. Regardless, he does astonishing work at a very reasonable price.

If Steve Irish can't solve your plaster problem, you might consider whether the problem is solvable. The plaster in our 1925 Tudor revival style home has a texture that is very difficult to reproduce. Over the years, a parade of plaster and drywall professionals have tried and failed. Steve was the only one able to figure out how the pattern was originally created and match it faithfully. He even came pretty close to simulating the many years of wear and layers of paint, making it hard to tell which walls were original and which were new. Steve also dealt with some challenging arches and curves in my house. And his attention to detail was very nice, expertly addressing tricky spots such as the areas around power outlets and windows.

We were extremely happy with the look of our living room following Steve's work. The house was built in 1924, so a ton of small cracks were present, along with some major cracks on a few walls. Steve was very honest in his estimate of what could be improved easily, what was harder and his pricing. The work was slightly delayed due to some other jobs he had, but once he started, he was done quickly and the house was left very neat (also, we were very happy with the care he took in laying down protective plastic and tape). The ceiling was previously repaired and skimcoated by someone else, but was done very sloppy. Steve was quick to note this and that it could be improved for a nominal price. Steve came in under his bid price and we will definitely be using him again for more work on our upstairs once we are ready!

The owner was very clear with me regarding what would and would not be possible, helping me to decide how far to go with the work, and he was right on everything he said. I was very pleased with the outcome, the textures matched extremely well, and it is now difficult to tell where the plaster was repaired, especially around the electrical outlets and light switches. The work was completed on schedue, and under budget. He kept his work area clean, and did not leave any plaster residue behind. I would definitely use this company again.
Description of Work: House is 90 years old, and the plaster walls had numerous cracks from settling and holes from electrical work done. I hired Lux to repair the cracks and holes in the plaster, and to retexture areas so the textures were more consistent over the whole wall (whre previous owners had attempted, but failed, to match wall textures).

The experience overall was great. The end product was perfectly smooth wall in both cases. Steve showed up ahead of time at the appointed early-morning meeting for the estimate, and he spent a lot of time explaining different methods for handling different cracks and imperfections throughout the house. He was really good about offering ideas where I could save money by doing some prep work on my own, and he clearly explained a number of concepts around the history and care of the plaster walls. This visit in and of itself where he examined the specific issues on my walls and ceilings and offered advice was worth quite a bit. We settled on the kitchen wall with the broken holes as the area needing the most work and also on a veneer coat in the bedroom as time would allow. He estimated it would be a day's work for the kitchen. He advised that I break out more of the loose plaster and explained some techniques for doing so, and he also suggested I remove the calcimine layer. I did both, the latter being a couple hours with rags and water, but in the end it was worth it, providing the best surface for bonding the plater to veneer without the calcimine. On the day of work, Steve reviewed both areas and found them satisfactory to work on, so I had a good idea it was worth the effort and would make his work most efficient. Steve ended up putting completing both walls in one 10 hour day. Steve's website states that he loves working with plaster, and it shows. The walls are done perfectly. I really appreciated the quality of his work and the fact he was willing to provide ideas where I could do some prep work to make the craftwork go easier and save some money.
Description of Work: Two walls required plaster/veneer repair. The first wall in a kitchen had about a four foot diameter patch of exposed lath (I'd removed the plaster which was loose with no key binding) and about a 8 foot by 8 foot surrounding the hole which needed new veneer coat along with fiberglass mesh for strength. The second wall in a bedroom was about 8 feet by 16 feet with corners and windows, and this wall required a veneer coat. For both walls, I'd removed several layers of wallpaper, and in the second room I'd prepped the wall by removing calcimine (a process involving warm water and elbow grease). Both walls required a new veneer due to cracks and gouges caused by my scraping of wallpaper and calcimine and by general cracks and holes from picture hangings, etc.

The ceiling is now smooth and even, all ready for me to paint. Steve also advised me on how to paint it and gave some hints on another little spackling job on a wall in the bathroom. He even gave me a handy rubber tool to use. He was very careful not to make any mess on my new floor and countertops. I got an estimate by e-mail, and the actual cost was more than $100 less as it didn't take as long as he expected.

During 2009 we had shower valves replaced in our downstairs bathroom. When this occurred, the plumbers (O?Neill Plumbing of Seattle ? also a good firm) accessed the pipes by cutting holes in the walls of the bathroom and ceiling of my study. We knew that we would have to have them closed up, and in deciding to have the bath re-tiled (see Madrona Tile), we began looking for someone to do some plaster and sheet rock work. Enter Steve Irish of Lux Interiors. Steve is ?the person- to hire for anything having to do with plaster ? period. I had him come over to the house to provide us with an estimate ? and like Madrona Tile, while not the very cheapest, he IS the very best. Steve looked at the holes in the bathroom walls, as well as some cracks we had in our living room walls (also lath/plaster), the hole in the ceiling of my study (below the bathroom) and other areas around the house that needed to be addressed. He taught me a number of things about why walls crack ? how they crack in certain places, what it means, etc. I enjoy learning about all this stuff ? and I watched some of his work ? and he explained to be what he as doing, and why ? very, very useful stuff. In addition, Steve is well versed in older homes ? and is associated with preservationists. He worked on the bathroom walls, my study ceiling, our living room and our sitting room upstairs and made recommendations, which are appropriate for our (1920-something) home. He knows and understands how things were done originally, and can combine traditional practices with modern materials, etc. Basically: this fellow is artist who works in plaster ? and knows his way around walls, etc. If you need services of anything having to do with plaster, sheetrock or anything associated with it ? call him ? you won?t be sorry. We?ll be hiring him again for our bedroom after we have some new windows installed this summer.

We've hired Steve for multiple jobs of drywall repair and plastering, over the past 4 years. He's always done beautiful work. He did have some problems with this last job, possibly because of the paint that had been used before he arrived. He did come out a second time, without charging extra, to fix the areas that were not blended. My husband ended up having to do the definitive repair on those areas, with some advice from the paint company, and they look great now. The rest of Steve's work has been outstanding. He's on the expensive side, but definitely worth it.
