We're currently in the process in buying a house and we needed to get an evaluation and estimate on a few damaged windows before our inspection period expires (tomorrow). Our agent scheduled an appointment with them to come over and got the confirmation that they will come. An hour before the appointment, a guy calls and tells us that they'd only do the estimates for homeowners and since we haven't purchased the house yet they won't be coming?! An hour before the appointment, a guy calls and tells us that they'd only do the estimates for homeowners and since we haven't purchased the house yet, they won't be coming?! It doesn't look like those guys want any new business - at least they certainly won't get it from us whether we end up buying that house or not.

I loved the whole experience. Michan was likeable-- then they were very patient when I had to postpone a couple of times-- The crew who came (Trace, Dan and Brian) were great-- fast, able, friendly-- even did a little extra at one window where needed, to trim it out decently inside. I'll hire them again to install a door...
Description of Work: 5 old awning windows had to be replaced with vinyl windows--involved removing old windows, installing new ones, and caulking and framing around so things would look good

I was very impressed by the professionalism and thoroughness of the quote and installation. 4 of the 5 windows are very large and non-standard. The glass door looked like it might have to be custom, adding $1000, but they took the time to remove trim and determine that a standard size would fit. They were always on time. I only have a couple of quibbles: The windows were delivered by one man, and there was no way he was going to bring them in himself. These were mostly large and very heavy windows, even for 2 reasonably strong people. Second, the cleanup was sub-par on the outside of the house. I found many pieces of broken glass in my yard (from removal of original windows) that somehow missed collection on the tarps that they laid out.

We had Keystone estimate replacing our front entryway. Their bid was very competitive, right there with the rest of the companies. I had wanted more design help than the salesman really provided when he did the estimate, so it took me till the last estimate we got to really figure out what we wanted. Ultimately I think this was why we didn't go with them, but I think they would have done good work and we will still consider them for future projects.

Great! Michan came out and took the time to go over alot of design details that we hadn't even considered. We had 4 other companies come out and not one of them offered the design ideas that Keystone offered. Michan brought us into her showroom and she had an amazing selection of windows and lots of great detail work. Her passion to sell us the right product was very apparent. That is what sold us on Keystone. Their pricing was very competitive as well. The installers were very polite and in our 20 years of being homeowners, Keystone was the cleanest and most professional company that has done work on our house. I have to say, being the daughter of a fine furniture builder, I never expected to see such beautiful fine carpentry. Their miters on their inside trim detail were absolutely perfect!!! We love our new windows and plan on having Keystone back to do much more.

Keystone Windows is one of the most professional organizations I have ever had the privilege of dealing with. From Dan in customer service to Mike & Michan with the actual management, dispatch and installation, I had absolutely ZERO problems and experienced wonderful attention to detail and customer service. VERY thankful I chose these folks - had some other bids but never felt comfortable with any other companies. Way to go, Keystone!

Follow up report on work done: Replaced two large old aluminum windows with new fiberglass windows. Owner of company provided tons of design advice. As part of her window bid, the owner of the company gave us tons of great design advice--I can honestly say that if I had chosen the windows I originally wanted to get, the project would not have turned out nearly as well. She steered me away from what I wanted (which would have been more expensive!) to this plan. The windows are top quality, open and close like a dream, and they look great. The guys on the installation team were friendly, communicated with me from start to finish so I always knew exactly what was happening, and they cleaned up every last speck of dust/debris. They went out of their way to be helpful, even unloading a large piece of furniture that was delivered the day they were here.
Description of Work: The owner of this company came to my home to do an estimate for replacement of several windows. She is a designer and ended up giving me at no extra charge a 30-year plan on ways we could work with our home (which is a duplex) to make it fit our family better and upgrade it architecturally. I have an estimate for new windows and plan to install just two. The thing I really liked about this company is that the owner, being a designer, understands not just our own personal taste but also what works with the style of our home. Over the years we've had other windows installed in our 1952 house and I wish I'd called Keystone first. They're also willing to work with us on what we can afford and was not pushy at all, which is refreshing in the window business. Long term we want to replace all the windows and doors and add another level--they've got us on an affordable plan to do it at a pace we can handle. I was referred to this company by a local expert who restores antique wooden windows. Knowing how particular he is, I asked him who he would use for windows, if he had to buy new ones. It turned out he had bought new ones because his own home had aluminum framed. He had used Keystone and could not speak highly enough of their design sense, quality of work and reasonable prices.

1. Keystone prices are higher than some of the competition, however for this extra money you receive the highest quality professional standards. 2. Michan Rhodes has executed many whole-house high-end remodels over the past 15 years, so she is able listen carefully, look at your scarpbook of favorite windows/kitchens, & to provide interior design recommendations. I listened to these recommendations & my new kitchen is exactly as I pictured it. 3. The window-installers at Keystone are at the very top of their craft. Not one wasted move; a pleasure to observe. Never an attempt to make-do with a lesser construction technique, never a complaint of "we didn't anticipate that". After the crew arrived, I discovered a live water line & drain ABS line buried in the kitchen wall -- definitely my fault as I had agreed to move all these -- and the workers were gracious about letting me cut & move these. 4. This huge project -- rebuilding an entire wall & installing all of these windows & door -- took exactly 1 1/2 days. Stunningly fast. 5. Excellent communication, punctuality & professionalism throughout this entire project. In conclusion: These are the advantages of paying top dollar.
Description of Work: The $15,000 includes the following: 1. price of 60" high windows across the entire width of my kitchen south-wall, highest quality VG fir windows that open fully; 2. price of one full-glass exterior door, also highest quality VG fir. 3. delivery & installation of windows, which required a completely newly built kitchen south wall. these very large Windows had to be shimmed precisely, so they swing closed & exactly align with the frame. 4. delivery & installation of exterior door, which required cutting a new opening in a wall. 5. all new exterior trim around window & door. 6. all interior trim for the kitchen windows, and the door. top quality VG fir

Michan, the owner, performed the original bid and basic measurements and went over our options with us. This process took some time, and Michan wasn't as organized as I hoped she would be but we may have caught her on an off day. She had to take a fair amount of time searching through computer files to find examples of the windows she was thinking of, and in some cases she never found the photos. However, her guidance on what type and style of window we should go with was very valuable. We ended up changing the direction we wanted to go in based on her assessment. I'm very happy with the eight windows Keystone replaced. They're high quality and efficiency vinyl, and far better than the wood windows they replaced, all of which are at most 15 or 20 years old. These windows will last a lot longer, and function far better. One window, a small rectangular shape with a crescent-shaped top to it, was supposed to be replaced but could not be. Keystone had ordered a window which didn't fit; the radius of the crescent shape was too big to fit the original opening. Apparently this size/shape combination is hard to do, and according to Keystone nobody can make a vinyl window to those specs. We found this out after the windows came in from the manufacturer. It's possible that someone can make a wood window that will work, and Keystone is investigating this for the future. Fortunately the old window is still in relatively decent shape and will last a few years more.
Description of Work: Keystone replaced eight windows in my home. They helped us to select windows that matched the original style of the house, and went through various options for window type (wood, vinyl), styles, and makes.

While we are happy with the end product and the installation process, there were issues leading up to the installation. We arranged for the sales person to come to our home and give us an estimate. I was happy that they confirmed our appointment early in the day prior to coming out. The sales person made a big pitch about how their company is different and better from other companies in the manner in which they install the windows. When the windows were actually installed, the crew could not do the install in the claimed manner due to the concrete construction of the home. Anyone who looks at our home at the front door can tell that our home is concrete. The other issue we had concerned the delivery of the windows. We were informed that the window manufacturer would deliver our windows to Keystone prior to installation so that they could check for defects. They would then bring the windows to our home on the day of installation. Imagine our surprise when we came home from work and found four of the five windows (the manufacturer apparently cracked one) placed up against our garage. We called Keystone and they advised that it was the fault of the window manufacturer for failing to inform us of the delivery ahead of time . Keystone returned another day and placed the windows in the back of the house; they also gave us a date for the delivery of the missing window. The date came and went and no window was ever delivered. We called Keystone and they advised it was the fault of the window manufacturer for giving us both the wrong date. They also advised, contrary to what we were originally told, that the windows are normally delivered at the installation site. Inspite of these frustrating issues, we were pleased with the installation crew. They were professional, timely, and efficient. They also did an excellent job cleaning up. We have received many compliments about our windows. It is just too bad that the process leading up to it was frustrating.

So far, mixed reviews. We were very pleased with the sales process. (Our recommendation is to definitely get multiple, detailed bids, in writing. We were able to prove that we had a legitimate alternative bid at a lower price and negotiate a better deal.) However, 2.5 months after we ordered the windows -- and provided a 50% payment -- we have yet to see windows. In addition, our original installation date came and went without them contacting us. We had prepared our house for installation but did not hear from them during the week leading up to the scheduled installation. On the Saturday prior to the installation date, we drove to the showroom at 11:15 am and 2:45 pm (because their Saturday hours were 11 - 3) in an attempt to find out if the installation was going to happen as scheduled. On both occasions, the showroom was closed. (In fairness, after contacting them on the day of installation with a "Where are you?" call, they were very responsive in getting back to us. They were very apologetic and said they left us a message a week before to notify us of the delay, but we did not get it.) Originally, we were told to expect the windows in 4-6 weeks. They warned us it could be 6-8 weeks with Marvin windows. If the windows are installed on the date we have most recently been promised, that will be more than 12 weeks after ordering. I'm looking forward to seeing our beautiful windows and will update this review upon installation.

While the guy who came out and measured everything was really nice, he never sent us the estimate! He also said that we couldn't get the configuration on the window that we wanted (which we ended up getting exactly the window we asked him for from a different company - same brand as what keystone sells and everything) and he wasn't sure if he could have a custom door made for the size opening we had (turns out he was wrong again as the other company ordered one with no problems). All in all a pretty disappointing experience. It felt like our business wasn't important to them.

Keystone was very prompt and professional in their interactions with us. Special kudos to Leslie who coordinated everything beautifully. The job involved several visits to our home, first to measure exactly for the custom doors, next, a subcontractor (who was excellent) did the removal and trimming out of the brickwork, the door was delivered by Milgard, then the installers came. They did the whole job in one day. They did a superb job of using our original mahogany trim around the new doors - it looks great. I was aware that I would need to paint around the doors on the inside, but I was a bit surprised by the amount of plaster damage I had to repair. He started the spackle job, but didn't fully complete it. I knew I would need to stain and varnish the doors myself. Keystone also arranged for another subcontractor to install a Reel Screen. He did a great job. We are delighted with the finished doors.
Description of Work: supplied custom French doors, installed them in our dining room which involved cutting through lath and plaster and removing brick from the exterior wall. Arranged for installation of Reel Screen for the doors. The price was higher than other places, but did include full subcontracting and coordination of the job from start to finish.

Everything was great. We set out to buy basic energy efficient windows, but the owner when she came to do the price estimate showed us (non sales-pushy) a few examples of double casements and using design to pick out what would look best and thus we ended up going casements in front, the modified window where the original was just weird and basic windows in back. They look amazing and in conjuction with the duct sealing/insulation we had done the day before we're now much warmer with the house set to 2 degrees less on the thermostat.

I was critical of them. I would have to question whether or not I would refer people to them. The owner threw down her pen at the point of consent because we wouldn't spend seventy thousand dollars. I told her that wasn't what I wanted to spend. She wanted the contract signed before she went out the door to go on vacation. I have never dealt with another company and I can't compare. The laborers were good and I could trust them around my house. I had to remind them a couple of times about caulking, using the phone and being tidy. She gave me an estimate and we signed a contract. The start date was off by a month. I had to beg them to help me find the molding to go around the windows. She wanted to sell me more than what I wanted. The worst part of it was the owner.

It went really well. In-particular, they helped with the design for the windows. We changed the whole grid. There were some mistakes made, The manufacturer designed them wrong, they sent it back right away and fixed it immediately. Our home leans a little, and so they had to adjust the windows and shutters to make it look even. They didn't have to do that extra work and they did. He seemed like a perfectionist and wanted the work to look great. They did give us quite a price cut for the additional work that had to be done. The only slightly negative thing was the original quote they gave us was pretty high, we went with them despite the high quote because they seemed very knowledgeable and experienced, and it paid off in the end.

They were not the cheapest, but they did a good job. I had one problem where I was getting mildew inside the windows. They eventually came out and looked at it, but I do not believe it was their fault. I believe it is just an old building and it was due to moisture from tenants not using proper ventilation, and I took care of it. I believe they did a good job. I think I paid a little more, but I got good quality and did not have time to get other estimates. I would use them again in the future and would recommend them to others.
