The only reason I gave them a B was because they did the estimating over the phone. Not being an electrician, it was difficult for me and my husband to understand what they were talking about. The work they did was fine.

Kemly performed extensive electrical work at my house last year (report submitted previously). They did an excellent job then. This weekend a series of the outlets they installed previously no longer worked. They came out within 45 minutes of my calling on a holiday. They corrected the problem (loose wire on the GFCI outlet) free of charge, 18 months after originally installed.
Description of Work: Fixed GFCI outlet installed previously.

Fantastic. Arrived reasonably on time, very friendly, even my paranoid dog liked James who was the one on my job. Explained everything electrical to me in detail even though unnecessary, a few unscheduled tasks, even fully programmed the thermostats in the one hour I hired for.
Description of Work: Had 4 240 volt thermostats installed. 2 programmable, 2 standard. They were very helpful in helping me know what thermostats to buy for ceiling radiant heat, even before I hired them. I ended up buying the thermostats through them and have them installed since I was uncomfortable dealing with 220 electrical and these thermostats are not common in the standard big box stores. Great communication, very helpful, charged a flat hourly rate (1 hour) for install and managed to do a couple other small tasks within that time.

Did not return phone calls to set up appointments. Took 3 weeks to arrange because of poor scheduling, but then was left with no alternatives but to go with Kemly because of time constraints.

I sent email to 3 electrical contractors recommended on Angie's List requesting a quote for installing a transfer switch box. Nathan from KEMLY responded promptly. He was the ONLY contractor to respond. He wrote back asking for a photo of our electrical panel. I took one with my cell phone and sent it. He sent an estimate and a diagram of the transfer box. Over the next week he responded to questions I had. We'd had with our furnace when connected directly to the generator and didn't know if a transfer box would help. He said no so we had to contact our furnace contractor. It took a few weeks to get the info and to write back to Nathan to sched. a time to get the box installed. I sent him an email last Wed am. He called me that pm. They just had a cancellation and he could send Larry first thing in the am. WOW! Larry arrived on time and did the work. That afternoon, a wind storm blew in and we lost power. But I just plugged the generator into our NEW box. Heat! Light! Power! YES!
Description of Work: Larry from KEMLY, installed a transfer switch box and an outside outlet to use with a generator when there is a power failure. It was setup to override the main electrical box's switches so the generator will power the essentials I chose to keep running during a power outage - the furnace, refrigerator, lights, garage doors, etc. If the power does go out, I simply start the generator, plug-in the special cord from the generator to the transfer box's outlet and then flip the box's switches which overrides the main panel's switches. Ta-dah! Everything that was hooked up to the transfer switch box is running off the generator. (NOTE: The transfer switch box that Home Depot sells includes the special heavy duty cord that's needed to connect generators to switch box outlets. I didn't realize that it wasn't included in Kemley's "parts" estimate. It cost us an additional $70.00).

They were very responsive even though it is a small company and actually the manager came to check everything out. They worked really quickly so for that reason they ended up being cheaper than what they had quoted. Their price was great and everything looks good. I would recommend them.
Description of Work: Kemly rewired half of my three bedroom and two bathroom home because the wiring was old. They also replaced a very unsafe breaker panel and also added three ceiling light fixtures. It took them three days.

When I called, it was somewhat disappointing that I had to wait about two weeks for a time which matched my schedule. But the work itself went well; the electrician was on time, very personable, and finished in about an hour. The only thing I can think of to improve would be efficiency - the electrician went back to his truck four times to get things he hadn't originally brought up, and it took time to get through the call box and up the elevator. Overall, it was pretty expensive. though I'm not an expert in installing lighting or anything electrical, so I'm a little conflicted about the price.
Description of Work: I had a few issues I needed help with. The fan in my master bathroom had stopped working (but I knew it wasn't the motor), and I needed some track lighting and a dimmer installed in my dining area.

I believe what we might be experiencing is "good recommendation fatigue, " or put another way, a company suffering from their own success. :-( That notwithstanding, I think any company that wants to maintain it high ratings/recommendations should find some way of returning prospective customers' calls, even if it's to say, "Thanks for calling but we simply cannot handle any more business right now." We're looking elsewhere.
Description of Work: No work WAS performed because we could not even get them to return numerous phone calls or emails. :-/

I was very pleased with the work they did and the price they charged (which was reasonable and far less than the last ripoff artist I dealt with). I wish they could have done the job faster ... it took almost a month because they ordered the wrong ballasts. Then their person who orders the ballasts went off on vacation and nothing happened for a week. Overall, I would use them again.

Our new service installation was complicated and Brian Kemly was the only electrician, out of three companies contacted, that stuck with us and helped us figure out how we could get what we wanted. Our old service came in underground from a telephone pole in the rear alley and we wanted to keep it that way. The city didn't want us to use the alley anymore and instead have the wires come from a pole out front which would have meant this large drape of wires running across our front yard but Brian and my husband came up with a plan using the alley pole that the city finally approved. Larry and Sal were the electricians who did the actual work and they were great: friendly, accommodating and as efficient as they could be given the crazy nature of our wonderful but unique 1935 house. After the new service was installed and the new bathroom fans and lights installed the city came in and approved their work with only a couple of minor adjustments. I will definitely use Kemly again.
Description of Work: We have a 1935 house that was in need of a 200amp service plus some additional work including installation of two bathroom fans and some lighting.

The company agreed on a date and time for the installers to come on the job. They sent two people who turned out to be real gems. They were on time every day and except for a short lunch worked all the while they were there. They conferred with us before they proceeded with any potentially trouble spots. The job came in on time and except for correction of some old work and our forgetting the rewiring of our old furnace per contract.
Description of Work: Approximately 1/2 our house was still wired with knob and tube. We had a reason to want all our attic's old insulation so decided it was a good idea to rewire the rest of the house. Mr. Catalfomo came out in acceptable time and gave an estimate on our desired project. We felt it was a fair price. We later asked for some recessed lighting. Mr. Catalfomo came out reestimated the contract which we then signed. We new in a advance that there might be some questionable work done by prior contractors so were ready for some add ons. We'd definitely hire this company again and ask for the same to installers.

Terrible. I would never use them again.
Description of Work: I asked them to replace a light switch. I had accidentally bought the wrong switch and the electrician replaced the old switch with the incorrect one which did not work. When I called them about it they told me that they would come out free of charge. When I called the main office and the repairman, they didn't answer my message at all.

Response from KEMLY ELECTRIC INC
ON OUR FIRST TRIP OUT, THE NANNY SHOWED US THE REPLACEMENT SWITCH, A USED FAN CONTROLLER. IT WAS NOT THE RIGHT ONE, BEING THAT THE FAN NEEDED A CONTROLLER TO MATCH THE RECEIVER IN THE FAN. WE INSTALLED THE SWITCH SO THAT THE LIGHT COULD BE OPERATED AT THE WALL SWITCH. WE INFORMED THE NANNY WHAT THEY NEEDED TO GET AND THAT WE WOULD COME BACK TO PUT IT IN THEN,AT NO EXTRA CHARGE. SO, WE WOULD ONLY BE CHARGING THEM FOR THE INITIAL SERVICE CALL. THE HOMEOWNER CALLED LATER THAT DAY COMPLAINING ABOUT THE CHARGE, FOR NOT DOING WHAT SHE WANTED. I HAD TO ASK HER REPEATEDLY TO LET ME EXPLAIN THE SITUATION. I TOLD HER WHAT I HAD TOLD THE NANNY. “GET THIS CONTROLLER, AND I WILL COME BACK AND INSTALL IT NO EXTRA CHARGE.” AFTER SHE LET US EXPLAIN, SHE CALMED DOWN AND SAID SHE WOULD TALK TO THE NANNY.WE RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE HOMEOWNER, SAYING THE CONTROLLER WAS IN AND THAT FRIDAY WOULD BE A GOOD DAY TO INSTALL IT. WE CALLED HER AN HOUR BEFORE WE WERE TO ARRIVE ON FRIDAY AND SHE SAID THAT THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME SHE HEARD BACK FROM KEMLY, AND ASSUMED WE WEREN’T INTERESTED IN WORKING FOR HER. I APOLOGIZED AND SHE SAID NOT TO COME AND THAT SHE WAS CANCELING THE CHECK FROM THE INITIAL VISIT.

The only negative thing was a bit of inefficiency in the office staff, so that it took three call-backs and talking to three different people, before they determined which technician to schedule for the job. However, they did initially suggest that we try a couple of things (resetting the outlets, flipping the circuit breakers several times) to see if the problem could be resolved without an electrician visit, which I appreciated. Setting aside the minor front office inefficiency, there were no problems at all with the on-site repair.
Description of Work: The sink disposal outlet was not working, which we determined by plugging the disposal into the other safety outlet in the kitchen, at which time the disposal worked fine. The technician who came over was great, very prompt, determined the problem quickly, and fixed it without any hesitation.
