The estimator was punctual and clear, gave an accurate estimate. The work schedule pushed back a week due to their scheduling constraints, but that was clearly communicated to us in advance and presented no problems. The crew was clean, easy to work around, and was clearly very experienced with re-wiring old homes. They did minimal damage to the plaster walls and used some very creative techniques to wire inaccessible places. Work was completed 1/2 day early, and work easily passed inspection.
Description of Work: Replace knob and tube wiring in roughly 2/3 of 1924 Craftsman, added a few interior and exterior outlets. Work inspected by city.

Overall, the project went well. We obtained three bids, and Kemly's was the lowest and the most detailed. The draft contract was very terse, and I wanted additional provisions, such as a promise that all work would be done in a workmanlike manner. Kemly was willing to add these. The work took six days. There was minimal interruption to our schedules. For the most part, they did a good job of cleaning up at the end of each day. They were also careful about moving furniture and other items without damaging them. Although the walls are mostly lath and plaster, the only damage was one small hole around an outlet. The lead worker called me on most days and gave helpful updates on their progress. Toward the end of the project, we decided to have them rewire the basement, which they did even though it was not part of the original bid and had to be scheduled at the last minute. They arranged for the inspection, which was passed. There was a slight misunderstanding about the final bill, but we were able to clear it up.
Description of Work: Kemly Electric removed knob and tube wiring and replaced it with romex wiring in a two-story house with a basement.

They provided quick response to my request for an estimate - and were honest about the possible variability in cost. The receptionist was friendly and helpful, coordinating the power shut-off with the city and expediting the whole process. The crew were on time (well, at least they were on site and got started with prep work before Seattle City Light showed up to cut the power). They were friendly, energetic and, while waiting for SCL to return to restore power, were helpful in answering some other related questions I had (as, other than the service meter, I was doing the remodel electrical work myself, and preparing for rough-in inspection).
Description of Work: Needed service meter upgraded from 100A to 200A, including grounding service with exterior rods, and interior ties to plumbing, gas & drain lines. Underground service to my neighborhood, required cutting off old service masts and running new into bottom of meter box.

James has come to my home a number of times and has been a wise counsel to the things I wanted to accomplish. He was willing to do what I requested, but if there were a better way to do something, he would advise me. My projects weren't particularly challenging or interesting, but I'm happy with the results.
Description of Work: I have used Kemly a number of times for moderate sized projects, no major rewiring or anything like that. It's mostly installing new outlets and fixtures. They also installed some transponders in the attic and exhaust fans for the bathroom.

The quoting process got off to a rough start as it took several months to get the quote. The quote itself was the middle of the three that I received. During the walk-through, they were very careful to explain that they might end up having to drill holes in the walls in order to properly feed the wires. I wasn't too happy about that, but all of the other electrical companies that gave quotes said the same thing. I was very happy when the job was complete to see that there were only two major holes (that fed around a fireplace, an area that I expected to see a hole or two). The guys doing the work were very good at communicating with me as we tried to figure out the best way to route the new wiring. The job took a total of 4 days, and I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: They replaced old knob & tube wiring for 7 overhead lights, 2 wall sconces, installed a new switch/overhead light and a new microwave circuit.

New to this house and still learning the ropes, so it is with some embarrassment that I called for some help. Main light in the kitchen went out. I thought it was the bulbs I replaced them and still no light. Pulled down the fixture, all looked good, then replaced switch and still no good so I called for help. It turned out to be simply a loose wire that was near the fixture. HOW EMBARRASSING!!! Took James all of 22 seconds to fix. UGH! Working with Kemly was very good. At first they said they were booked a week in advance, but found a way to squeeze me in the day after I called. Scheduling and updates were very easy and very professional. When James was going to be late by 45 mins, he called to let me know. Good outfit, but maybe a tad expensive for the work done.

Glenn came out to do our estimate; he walked through the entire house and drew a map of all of the outlets, switches, and fixtures. When his quote came in, it was considerably lower than the other quote we got. Glenn was also very responsive as we went back and forth fine-tuning the bid (for example, we added a hard-wired smoke detector system, which had not previously been discussed). We demolished the ceiling in the basement ourselves to allow access (which saved us some money), and Glenn was nice enough to make an extra trip to the house to make sure we were doing enough, and in the right places. When the job started, Larry arrived promptly at 8:00, and worked on the house for 5 days. We were not living in the house at the time, so I cannot comment on how well he kept out of our way. Our plaster walls were very minimally damaged most of the wires were fished and only very tiny holes drilled. There are some holes to be patched, mostly around switches and outlets, but it is not terrible, by any means. After the job was over, there were a number of small issues we had to follow up on a dimmer switch had been forgotten, the washer and dryer had been put back in the wrong order, the doorbell was disconnected and we were very impressed that Kemly followed through on every one of them, and didn't wash their hands of us once the job was done and they were paid. They sent guys back to our house three times the last time nearly four weeks after the job was done to fix things, and were courteous and very professional throughout. I think something always goes wrong with any job this size, and we were amazed that Kemly stuck with us and fixed it all, given that most of the things were relatively minor. We are very happy with the job they did, and with their customer service, and would absolutely recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Kemly did a complete rewire of our 1952 house. We already had a new panel, but none of the outlets were grounded, and the wiring was old. They also added outlets in nearly every room, as well as two outside of the house, installed a motion-sensor light outside and a light in one of the closets. They also installed hard-wired smoke detectors and combo smoke/CO detectors.

We called Kemly to install our new ceiling fan and were able to schedule an appointment that week. Alex showed up slightly early, which was great. He was very friendly and professional. He removed the existing light fixture and installed the ceiling fan for us. He took the time to explain the installation and fan operation and left the room notably clean. We were very pleased with his work.

The senior and junior electrician started early each morning. There was an initial walk-through followed by the upgrading the mast, moving the panel, and fixing up the existing wiring so we'd have power that night. The second day consisted of pulling wire and re-wiring for the two kitchen outlets and living room. The final day consisted of finished the two bedrooms, cleanup and inspection. The electrician was careful and meticulous.
Description of Work: Upgraded 100A to 200A Service. Upgraded mast and strike. Moved panel location to inner wall. Repulled and rewired 2/3 of main floor outlets accessible from basement (11 existing, 6 new) for two bedrooms and living room. Took 3 days with inspection on last day. Final connection to be done by SCL.

The work turned out very well. James came out to take a look at everything and talked to me about the placement of the outlets. I was really really, happy with Kemly. They were very helpful in fixing the previous problem. they were on time. and their experience was better then other company i had used.
Description of Work: The company had come out to rewire our laundry room. They had to run two new lines and had to refix some work that was not done properly. The lines that they ran was a new can light, two new lines that went to the fridge, and they had to move a 220 dryer outlet.

What can I say? They never showed up.
Description of Work: No services performed because the never showed up to look at the work. I waited a month to get an appointment, only to have the estimator call me up the day before the appointment. "Can we do this next month, on June 4th?" I said sure, I'm willing to wait for a top rated outfit. Today is June 7th. They never called, never showed. I'm sure they're a great outfit to work with, but I'll never know for sure.

Larry arrived within the 4-hour window they had given us and was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Since we had just moved in, there were boxes everywhere. We thought we'd cleared a good path to the breaker box, the dryer, etc., but some things needed to be moved, which he actually helped me with. He discovered that a 220 line did exist and that it terminated in the laundry room. It had been covered with sheet rock, so rather than overcharge us to install a brand new line, he cut a small hole in the sheet rock in exactly the right place in order to expose the wiring. He had to exchange the 3-prong for a 4-prong plug, which was a little pricey at $43, but he kept everything to the hour minimum. He even connected our vent. P.S. He didn't mind our 95 lb. Golden Retriever being in the house either!
Description of Work: We moved into our home last week to find that there was no 220 plug for our electric dryer, despite the sellers' disclosure stating that it was here and passing inspection. We called Kemly to install a new 220 outlet b/c of recommendations on Angie's List.

He completed the job as promised. When it came to paying, I was charged for 90 minutes work (It took less that 20 minutes) and I reminded him of our agreement. He said that as he had to come back twice, he was charging for 90 minutes. This was anything but value for money. In fact I feel that I was taken advantage of.
Description of Work: Needed to fix a hanging light that was not working. He discovered that there was a loose wire that needed soldering. We cut short the visit, I went and got the light fixed then on a second visit, we reinstalled the light. We agreed that the work would be completed within the 1 hour minimum.

The job went very smoothly. The trac light was to highlight a wall sculpture; works great. They installed the light and a new dimmer switch for it. They replaced a bathroom fan and a whole house fan. Brian Kemly met with me at my house and did a complete walk-through. Brian was very personable and patient to listen to my comments and questions. The quotation took about 1 hour to review entire home and discuss my options as I had not decided on heating sources to use. Work began on 12/17 and was scheduled to continue all week until th 21st with remaining work to be completed after Christmas. Number of workers ranged from 2-3 people. I was not home the majority of time due to work but foreman was usually available when I returned home around 3PM. He was always willing to discuss what was done for day and what was planned for upcoming days. Work was typically done from 8:30AM until 3:30PM. One day had to be scheduled after Christmas to complete remaining work. I was initially told 27th but foreman called me that work would occur on 28th. Nobody showed up on 28th and office told me after I called that work would be complete on Jan. 2. Minor repairs to walls after work was complete.
Description of Work: I had the following work done on my 780 sq. ft. home built in 1947: replace all of knob & tube wiring (excluding kitchen) & re-wire existing outlets in laundry room & bathroom; upgrade all outlets with GFI's (total of 8 two-prong outlets replaced) + install additional outlets to comply with codes (total of four new outlets); install light sources in bedroom closets and light switches adjacent to closets (total of two closets); install one light source in attic (pull-cord); replace existing baseboard heaters and install convection air heaters in bedrooms, living room & kitchen (total of 5 heaters replaced); install recess lighting in living room (total of 6 locations with 2 vs. 4 lights on separate switches); install exterior outlets in front and back of house; take outdoor overhead wiring between main house and detached garage and re-route underground (agreed that I would dig the ditch).

Frank from Kemly Electric was extremely beneficial in helping us figure out which type of timers would work best for our 3 applications. He is patient, knowledgeable, and friendly. After determining which timers were needed, he carefully installed them and checked they were working properly. He even took the extra time to program the timers. He made great suggestions regarding combination, multiple gang switch plates that would improve the appearance of our wall switches and told me where to buy them. Further, he kindly took a follow-up phone call for assistance in changing a switch. Office staff is very friendly and helpful, too, and in today's world, that is not a given. We'd definitely hire them again.

Called on a Monday and they came in to do the work on Friday. They squeezed us in since another appointment had been canceled. Two guys came to the house and completed the work in 5 hours. The two guys were friendly and efficient. They installed a light next to the panel to make it up to code the for the inspector, which we had not requested. They even laid a drop cloth across the gross carpet in our basement to protect it!! This wasn't necessary, but it was a very nice gesture. The next day we found that the dryer was installed on the wrong breaker. We called and they came back the same day to fix it. We had a great experience with the contractor.
