Overall, it went okay. The slope is much better-now my car scrapes bottom 1 out of 10 times instead of every time. But if he had removed more of the driveway, it would've helped-the scrapes now occur at exactly where the old concrete meets new. His estimate also included rebuilding part of a small concrete wall, which was not necessary. That wall is badly patched now.
Description of Work: Our cars kept bottoming out on the steeply pitched driveway. We asked Greg to take out old concrete and pour a new slope.

THESE FOLKS LIVE ON A STEEP HILL, AND WHOEVER REPLACED THE DRIVE BEFORE LEFT A MASSIVE HUMP NEXT TO THE CITY SIDEWALK. I SENT A BID TO REPLACE THE FIRST THIRD OF THE SUPER THICK DRIVE TO THE CUT JOINT, GUESSING THAT WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I WAS CLEAR ON THE MEASUREMENTS. TO HAVE GONE FURTHER WOULD REQUIRE A PUMP TRUCK AND A BIGGER BID. IN FACT, I WOULD HAVE HAD TO JUST REPLACE THE WHOLE THING. SHE HAD CALLED TO SCHEDULE BEFORE XMAS, BUT BECAUSE OF THE WINTER STORM THAT WE'D HAD ALL DECEMBER, IT WASN'T POSSIBLE TO POUR, SO SHE MENTIONED AFTER THE HOLIDAYS WOULD BE FINE. WE CAME OUT THE DAY AFTER NEW YEARS, SO I THOUGHT THAT WAS AS PUNCTUAL AS IT GETS. THERE WAS A CRUMMY OLD CURB THAT RAN ALONGSIDE THAT I FIGURED WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. SHE ASKED WHY, AND I REALIZED IT COULD STAY, BUT I DECIDED TO START RESURFACING THE MAJOR DIVETS, AND DIDN'T GET A CHANCE TO FINISH. SHE ASKED ABOUT A DISCOUNT, AND I KNOCKED OFF $500 FOR LEAVING THE CURB WHICH I THOUGHT WAS A PRETTY GOOD DEAL. SHE SEEMED JUST AS HAPPY AS COULD BE WITH THE JOB, WITH NO COMPLAINTS. HEY PEOPLE LISTEN, THIS IS A ONE SHOT DEAL, AND I'M OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS, PREFERABLY BEFORE THE CONCRETE IS POURED. I FEEL I'M CLEAR WITH THE SCOPE OF THE WORK AS WELL AS THE PRICE. MY WEBSITE IS A GOOD RESOURCE FOR EDUCATING PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMERS, AND ALTHOUGH I'M NOT PERFECT, I FEEL LIKE I DO A PRETTY GOOD JOB WITH WHAT I HAVE TO WORK WITH FOR THE MONEY. I ALWAYS TELL PEOPLE TO GET AS MANY BIDS AS POSSIBLE AND GO WITH THE GUY YOU THINK WILL DO THE BEST JOB.

Very poorly.
Description of Work: Greg missed the first appointment to come to my home for a patio estimate. We rescheduled and when he came out he talked about how bad the traffic was, how busy he was, and he made a number of sarcastic comments when I asked questions. Because of the prior "A" grades on Angie's List, I asked for a bid, accepted it, and asked him to start work. He said it would be a couple of weeks. That was the last I heard from him. I feel he was very unprofessional and question the reliability of the others grades he has been given.

WELL HERE’S MY SIDE OF THE STORY. THE LADY CALLED ON SUNDAY AND I CAME OUT TWO DAYS LATER, AT NIGHT. YES I WAS EXTREMELY TIRED BUT NOT IN A BAD MOOD AT ALL. I TOLD THE COUPLE THAT I WAS PRETTY WELL BOOKED FOR THE NEXT TWO MONTHS. I SPENT SOME TIME GOING OVER THE DIFFERENT OPTIONS FOR A FEW DIFFERENT SLABS IN THE FRONT YARD, AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. I SENT THE BID THE NEXT DAY AND HEARD BACK FROM HER ABOUT A MONTH LATER. SHE HAD LEFT A BRIEF MESSAGE SAYING THEY WERE CONSIDERING HIRING ME. THERE WERE SOME TREES, BUSHES, SOD, GRAVEL, ETC. THAT NEEDED TO BE TAKEN OUT FIRST. I IMMEDIATELY LEFT HER A MESSAGE ASKING IF THEY HAD TAKEN CARE OF THAT, AND NEVER HEARD BACK. THIS JOB WAS NEVER SCHEDULED, AND SO I CAN’T UNDERSTAND THIS MEMBER’S COMMENTS. I TALKED TO THE HUSBAND AND HE WAS ALSO COMPLETELY IN THE DARK.

Greg did a great job replacing the sidewalk. There was an issue with a difficult neighbor that resulted in calling in the City arborist and sidewalk inspector. In the end, the city decided to have the sidewalk humped over tree roots and Greg was good in dealing with the extra requirements and suggested putting some steel in the concrete which the city agreed to. Greg did a great job in his finishing work. I would hire him again.
Description of Work: About 30 feet of sidewalk was replaced.

Having had a lot of trouble getting anyone to take my project seriously...it was a difficult one...I phoned Greg and he came by the next day. He spent quite a lot of time thinking about it and talking with me about it and then sent me a written estimate....emailing me back and forth with different options. I decided to go a whole other route but appreciated his professionalism and honestly during the process. His estimate was in line with what I had thought it would be and I would definitely use Greg if I had any other suitable projects.

I had Greg out to do a bid on the project and while we were impressed with him, I did receive a lower bid from another person that I had found through "the list" and decided to use him. Unbeknownst to me, the person I hired actually was an employee of Greg's Concrete and while experienced in demolition, he was new to the concrete component. When the concrete was being poured another person came to the site and assisted him. I did not realize that this gentleman was Greg as it had been some time since the estimate and I had a few companies come out. At the time I did notice that Greg seemed frustrated, but our overall perception of the project was that it came out great. We were happy with the service we received from the contractor we hired. Greg contacted me after I reported on his company and explained the background story which we had not known at the time. Given this, it turns out that we did actually use Greg's Concrete, we just did not realize it as we paid the man we had hired. Knowing all of this, I have to say that I am impressed that Greg came through to assist the man we had hired, despite what he must have felt at the time. We appreciate that his help was the critical factor in the project's success and because of this we would not hesitate to recommend him to people.

HERE'S AN INTERESTING REPORT. I HAD SENT THE HUSBAND A BID 7 MONTHS AGO FOR TWO DRIVES. A MONTH LATER, THE FELLOW THAT DOES MY DEMO WORK NEEDED HELP WITH A "SMALL POUR". I AGREED TO COME OUT AND TAKE A LOOK, AND TO MY SURPRISE, IT WAS THE SAME TWO DRIVEWAYS. HE HAD DECIDED TO GET WISE AND HIRE ME FOR THE MAIN COURSE (FINISHING THE CONCRETE) INSTEAD OF ME HIRING HIM TO DO THE MINOR BREAK OUT. MY BID WAS $1500 HIGHER, SINCE I WOULD HAVE ALSO REPLACED HER DRAIN, PIPES AND SOME OTHER STUFF. I RELUCTANTLY AGREED TO HELP HIM FOR REAL CHEAP, THOUGH I DID CHEW HIM OUT PRETTY GOOD. HE QUICKLY LEARNED I DON'T WORK THAT WAY, BUT HE'S STILL A HECK OF A DEMO MAN. SO WHAT A COINCIDENCE, HUH? EVEN THOUGH HE WAS IN THE WRONG CATEGORY ON ANGIE'S LIST FOR CONCRETE, HE GETS THE JOB AND HE GETS A'S, AND I GET THIS?! 7 MONTHS LATER? I JUST WANT THIS MEMBER TO KNOW THAT THEY DID GET MY PRODUCT, AND FOR A LOT LESS, SO GOOD FOR THEM.

Description of Work: He subcontracted to cut and remove a concrete staircase, retaining wall, and walkway. He then replaced all of these, improving on the original nicely. He was attentive to details and added small touches like a copper pipe under the wall for a potential replacement main water line if needed in the future, and conduits for electrical wiring or sprinkler system. He kept the area quite clean each day, and at the end of the job. His costs were higher than expected and he still stuck to the contracted amount without any discussion. His price was not inexpensive, but whose is?

WOW! MY LOWEST GRADE EVER ON ANGIE'S LIST. A B'S NOT BAD, AND I REALIZE IT'S HARD FOR A CUSTOMER TO GET ECSTATIC ABOUT A SIDEWALK PATCH. I'M ONE OF THE FEW GUYS IN TOWN WILLING TO REMEDY THESE COMMON LITTLE TRIP HAZARDS. THEY'RE CONSIDERED TOO SMALL A JOB FOR MOST CONCRETE COMPANIES, AND SIMPLY NOT WORTH THE EFFORT. BUT WHATEVER IT TAKES TO PREVENT GETTING SUED, RIGHT? PS - THE CITY USED TO USE ASPHALT, WHEN THEY WERE RESPONSIBLE AT ONE TIME. IF YOU DO IT YOURSELF, GRIND THE SURFACE REAL CLEAN AND MIX UP A HEAVY DUTY POLYMER GROUT COMPOUND SUCH AS RAPID SET FROM YOUR LOCAL HOME DEPOT. AS THE NAME IMPLIES, WORK FAST WITH THAT TROWEL AND BRUSH.

Once our times to get together to do the job, Gregg came every day until he had completed the entire project. The job entailed setting up a time for a subcontractor to come in to demolish the old steps and sidewalks then haul away the away the debris. Other than the man who broke up the old and hauled the debris, the concrete pumping company and the concrete supplier, Gregg handled the entire project himself. He even handled the hose from the pumper trucks from which the concrete was poured.
Description of Work: Gregg gave a bid to remove then replace 3 sets of steps and our sidewalks from the public sidewalk to our house. He also replaced a sidewalk which went from the other sidewalk around to the back porch.

THESE FOLKS WERE GREAT. I'D SPENT HOURS TALKING TO THE MEMBER IN HIS YARD, ALLOWING ME TO TAKE LOTS OF BREAKS FROM THE HEAT. I WOULD LIKE TO EXPLAIN SOMETHING HERE. THE VAST MAJORITY OF HOME OWNERS REALLY CAN'T VISUALIZE THE FINISHED PRODUCT, AND THEREFORE HAVE NO SPECIFIC PLAN FOR ME. I'M ALWAYS RUNNING IDEAS BY THEM TO SEE WHAT WILL WORK, AS THIS STUFF IS OBVIOUSLY PERMANENT. AS OPPOSED TO NEW CONSTRUCTION, THERE'S TYPICALLY NOT A LOT OF FLEXIBLE OPTIONS WHEN DEALING WITH THE ELEVATION OF CONCRETE. I ALWAYS SAY, YOU'RE BETTER OFF HAVING THE WALK A BIT ABOVE THE YARD RATHER THAN BELOW IT, WHICH IS WHERE THEY TYPICALLY SINK OVER THE YEARS. THIS PARTICULAR YARD CONSISTED OF GRAVEL, WHICH YOU REALLY DON'T WANT ON THE WALK, AS A RULE. ALSO, THE OLD STEPS USUALLY AREN'T VERY CONSISTENT, SO WHEN I'M DEALING WITH POINT A TO POINT B, I CAN'T JUST FUDGE THE HEIGHT OF ONE STEP. TO HAVE ADDED ONE MORE STEP WOULD HAVE BROUGHT THEM DOWN WAY TOO LOW AND LOOKED STUPID. I COULD SHORTEN THE HEIGHT OF THE STEPS, THEN ADD ONE OR TWO MORE, BUT AGAIN, THAT CHANGES THE ANGLE AND DISTANCE AND DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK, INCLUDING THIS CASE. ALSO, IT'S BETTER NOT TO RAMP THE WALK TOO MUCH LIKE THE OLD ONE. IT MAY HAVE WORKED BEFORE WITH THE YARD, BUT AT THE COST OF HAVING TOO MUCH SLOPE WHICH LOOKS BAD AND IS DANGEROUS. CONCRETE IS VERY STRAIGHT FORWARD IN MY EYES. ON A HOUSE WITH A LOT OF OLD CROOKED STEPS AND STRANGE ANGLES, I RARELY AM ABLE TO FOLLOW THE OLD FOOTPRINT TO A T. FORM THE YARD AROUND THE CONCRETE AS IT SHOULD BE, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. I ALWAYS EXPLAIN THIS STUFF IN FULL DETAIL, AND THE CUSTOMER ALWAYS MAKES THE DECISION TO GO BEFORE THE POUR, OR PREFERABLY BEFORE EVERYTHING IS FORMED UP. I'M NOT AWARE OF ANY PROBLEMS EXCEPT THAT I GOT EXTREMELY LUCKY WITH THE PUMP TRUCKS ON BOTH POURS AND PLACING THE CONCRETE. THE ACCESS HERE WAS TOUGH. THIS IS NOT PERCEIVED, AS I TRY TO TAKE OUT THE GUESS WORK SINCE IT CAN MAKE OR BREAK A JOB. SPEAKING OF WHICH, I ENDED UP HELPING MY DEMO GUY AND DOING JUST AS MUCH OF THAT BACKBREAKING STUFF AS HIM BECAUSE OF THE DIFFICULTY OF THIS JOB. ALSO, THE TOTAL WAS $11,000 PLUS TAX. I BELIEVE THIS IS A VERY GOOD PRICE AND QUALITY FOR THE AMOUNT OF WORK DONE HERE. GREG

This was our third time using some type of concrete company, and Greg was definitely the best of the bunch. He showed up on time and did what he said he was going to do. Doing this sort of patch job is not something he does on a regular basis, so he did seem a little unprepared (he didn't have a mask for the grinding, for example). But, I really liked how upfront he was about the process. He said that, while he'd try applying color, he couldn't guarantee what it'd look like in the end. Since we had researched doing this ourselves (and had talked to a guy at a concrete supply company who said how difficult it was to get the color consistent), we knew what we were in for and we appreciated that he didn't sugar coat it. In the end, we decided if the color was really bad that we'd just paint it at some later point. The color ended up looking great, so all is good.
Description of Work: We had a concrete wall that was in rough form. Greg came and ground the walls clean and then used jet set for the heavy duty patches and ardex with brown color on top.

Checked Craig's List for concrete contractor and call Greg. We liked the reports that we read on the List, and also, that he was local. Excellent. Greg was very responsive. He provided a quote within a few days and performed the work within two weeks. He worked quickly, stayed in close contact, and did an excellent job. We were particularly concerned about the well-being of the tree whose roots had moved the old walkway. Greg was very mindful of our concerns and appeared to work with great care. We highly recommend him and would work with him again. On a side note, we appreciated the fact that Greg likes to communicate by email, since email is both convenient and clear. Also, his website provided lots of photos of the jobs he's done and the options that were available to us -- again, very helpful.

Greg responded within two or three days to my phone message. We arranged a time for him to come to look at the sidewalk. He sent me an estimate by e-mail and I accepted the project by e-mail. Before we could set a specific time, Greg called on a rainy day and proposed to do the work on that day because he was rained out of another job and the weather was good for pouring concrete this type of concrete. I went out and helped him prepare by removing some soil and grass that had grown out onto the sidewalk. I don't know if this is something expected of clients, but I wanted to be sure he had as clear a surface to work on as possible. I was impressed with the quality of the work. The patches were very smooth and gradual, making the sidewalk much safer. He put some coloring in the cement so it wouldn't dry bright white. The patches don't blend in exactly but they don't stand out dramatically.

Greg works alone but was able to handle all that concrete with his expertise and perfect tools for the job by himself. We were amazed. The drainage angles were for the most part exactly as we had specified and formed. He brush finished the surface and it looks nice and professional. We would hire him again. I would never have imagined that one guy could place that much concrete by himself! He is clearly experienced and confident.
Description of Work: Greg had 8 yards of concrete delivered to pour and finish our driveway (about 500 sq ft). We had already prepared the area by excavating dirt and bringing in gravel, compacting it, and creating the forms. His job was to manage the pour and finish the surface.

Greg did a terrific job. Being a one-man operation, he did all the work himself (minus the concrete delivery, although he took care of arranging that) and we dealt with him personally at every stage. He is pleasant, timely, efficient, and above all passionate about the work he enjoys. His recommendations regarding our options for decorative stamping were informed and useful. He stayed within budget and his estimate was rock solid. (The concrete delivery was an extra expense, but not a deal-breaking one.) After the project was completed we called him an artist, and - unlike most other contractors we've worked with - the term fits. Easily recommended.

Greg was straightforward and worked really hard. I have absolutely no complaints, except the cost, which wasn't Greg's fault. It is very hard to find contractors to do ''small'' jobs in the concrete biz. You even pay a premium to the concrete suppliers if you don't have a full load, which is really a lot of concrete. I called every company on Angie's List and only 2 actually showed up to give me a bid.
