To do the repair, they had to remove and restore a rockery blocking access to the outside of the foundation, and cut into paneling in the entertainment room to hook the new line into the shut-off valve. They were punctual, professional, courteous, and billed for the estimated amount in spite of some minor complications. Other outfits might have done it for less, but their work would probably have lacked in quality and professionalism.
Description of Work: The 70-foot water line from our house to the street sprung a leak. We first learned about the leak through a huge increase in our water bill. After some research I chose Fox because they ranked well in Angie's List, and had experience with tunneling technology that could replace the line without digging a ditch.

When Nate arrived, he offered to hard pipe over to the water heater and move the expansion tank to a better location. He also recommended a valve to avoid the draft in the drain. He gave an estimate of 3 hours. Once the job started, Nate quickly diagnosed an additional problem. The expansion tank was defective and was just filling up with water (which likely caused the leaks). The completed piping looks excellent and is very sturdy. The new expansion tank is in a much better location. And the valve in the drain should save us a lot of energy this winter. Nate was honest, professional and provided a great solution. He took 4 hours to complete the job. Afterward he inspected the plumbing throughout our house and gave some great suggestions. If I have plumbing problems in the future, I look forward to working with Nate again.
Description of Work: About a year ago, we had our laundry room floors replaced. As part of the job, the water heater was moved up against a wall and an expansion tank, drain pan and earthquake strap were added. Unfortunately the person we hired was better at flooring than he was with plumbing. The tank was moved further away from the main pipes, so lengthy flexible pipe extensions were used. Those flexible pipes began to leak. Also, the drain on the drain pan was just an open pipe going down underneath the house which caused a draft.

The encounter went well. The technician was friendly and courteous, and he wore shoe covers on his shoes to avoid marring our wood floors. He gave me a wealth of technical information and told me what the pressure reading on the pressure release valve should be before he actually tested it. He completed the job in less time than he predicted. He gave me a heads up that our water heater is getting old, and we may be getting debris coming through that is clogging up our faucet screens. He did not try to sell me a new water heater. He also cleaned a few faucet screens on his own initiative. Cleanup was fairly good. Overall, I was impressed by the knowledge the technician displayed, his honesty, and his ethics. Too many plumbers try to sell services that are not needed!
Description of Work: The technician unclogged a partially clogged kitchen faucet. Running and "ghost flushing" toilets (toilet that would flush when water in another part of the house was used) were attributed to a pressure release valve that was not working and to problems with the expansion chamber on the hot water heater (the latter was mounted incorrectly by another plumbing company a few years ago). The release valve was replaced and the chamber was replaced and mounted correctly. A malfunctioning float chamber on one toilet was replaced. He also evaluated a toilet that we thought would need to be replaced but did not try to convince me to replace it.

Serviceman arrived on time. Checked toilet; showed me what the problem was and explained what was causing it. Gave me options to repair (would expect same problem in the future, though) or replace with a different model. As he was here, he did the second toilet as well as it was having similar problems. Went and picked up needed materials, returned and did the work. Professional, efficient. More than I wanted to spend, but got quality service and quality work.

I called them for the free estimate offered in the yellow pages. They came out and gave us an estimate of $3000 to $4000 for the job. We declined to have the work down with them, as we were only really interested in getting an estimate, and Jason, the man who came out, proceeded to charge me $90 for a service fee. We had to call the company many times to get this charge taken off. We would not recommend using this company.

I checked Angie's List around 9:00 am and called Fox. They were able to get a plumber over to fix it the same day. When the service guy arrived, he quickly found the problem and gave me a quote to replace the old cast iron drain line from the tub to the waste line. He efficiently did his work; it took about 3 hours. He was great with my 4 year old, who was very excited to have a real construction worker at the house. He finished at about 8:00 pm and gave us a quick rundown on the state of the rest of the plumbing, which seemed like an accurate assessment rather than an attempt to sell us more plumbing.
Description of Work: The drain line for the tub started leaking large amounts of water into our crawlspace.

This exercise stands for the proposition that when one has an emergency on one s hands, it is most likely not a good time to try a new method of resolving it. Yesterday evening, (Thursday) my kitchen faucet (a mixer) wore out it's washer, and could not be turned off. I have arthritis, that affects both my hand very severely. After several attempts, I managed to shut off the water (mine being an old house, there is no separate water shut-off for the kitchen, so I had to turn off the water for the entire house, in order to stem the flow to the kitchen sink). I checked Angie s List. I am also hearing impaired (as Bette Davis said: getting old ain't for Sissies), so I was glad to find a Plumbing Service that advertised email communication. I filled out the requested information, gave a short summary of the problem and hit the submit button. I received an electronic message, stating that the email service was out of order. This morning, promptly at 9:00, my son in law contacted Fox Plumbing via telephone, gave them all the particulars (including the fact that I had a commitment for this afternoon at 15:30) and was told that Fox Plumbing would send somebody close to noon . I took my dog for a walk and was back at my house at 11:15. I waited until 15:30, at which time I had to leave. At 15:35, my son in law left me a message, saying that Fox Plumbing was on its way. When I returned to my house tonight, there was a Fox Plumbing business card stuck in my door. Meanwhile, my son in law volunteered to replace the washer tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon. This was not the best First Impression I ever had of a Trade Service. Two days without water because of one worn out washer, seems a bit excessive.
Description of Work: No Service was performed.

I could not have been more pleased with the abilities, personality and professionalism of the gentleman from Fox. In fact, I'm currently contracting with Fox Plumbing to re-pipe the entire house and convert my old galvanized supply system over to PEX.
Description of Work: A galvanized pipe connection under the sink of my home ruptured in the middle of the night leaving me with a pool of water in my kitchen and into my finished basement below. (It was a rude awakening on a Monday morning...) I was able to shut off the water to the house and immediately called Fox Plumbing. I was told they could probably have a technician there in a couple of hours. To my utter surprise, only 1 hour later I have a knock at the door. The gentleman at the door was courteous, clean and friendly to a fault. He introduced himself and immediately put on booties before coming into my home. (It was a great gesture, even though a little shoe dust was the last of my worries that morning.) It took less than an hour for him to locate the errant cold water nipple connection and have it replaced. (He also replaced the same nipple on the hot water side for good measure.)

Adrienne called the day before to make sure that he got the details correct and could estimate the parts needed. He showed up on time and was very courteous and professional. He estimated that the job would take and hour and a half maximum. Actual time was less than estimated and he hooked the new range up. I had no problems with company or service other than price. For the job done the total was over one hundred dollars more than other estimates I had received (total = $301.18 after a $25 coupon). I would not hesitate to use the company again if not for the price.
Description of Work: Gas line came out of the wall in the middle of the range opening. Previous plumber put in a 90 degree turn so gas line ran to the far left side of the range opening and installed the on/off valve there. Job required that gas piping from the 90 degree "elbow" be removed and a new on/off valve installed for the new range.

These guys did a good, honest job. Kept me informed on progress, told me about best-case (sewer connection replacement)/worst case (sewer line to the street). The work ended up being best case--they didn't have to replace pipe beyond the sewer connection, and didn't try to upsell. I was impressed when they arrived at my house with a printout of plotting the sewer line location from the city planners office (and my house was built in 1926). Very professional throughout, and considering the digging and speed with which they completed the work, I'd recommend Fox without hesitation and will call them again as needed.

I called Fox Plumbing and they had a technician here within 3 hours even though it was not an emergency situation. Marcus inspected our toilets which had been backing up on a regular basis. He explained our options and we decided to replace the 20-yr-old fixtures with more modern, water-efficient models. He came back the next day and replaced the toilets and repaired a leaking drain pipe connection. Marcus was very professional and made sure to explain what he was doing every step of the way. He then inspected the plumbing in the entire house and gave us a report of areas we might need to address. We scheduled a time for him to come back to snake out 2 drains that are draining too slowly.

Neighbor recommended Fox Plumbing. They did the job for $3,560 (plus tax) compared to the 3 other bids of $11,000 to $13,000 (plus tax) substantially less than all the other bids. One whirlwind Fox Plumber worked 2-1/2 days, versus others bids for 3-4 plumbers taking 3-4 days. I didn t even have to move to a motel; truly awesome job! Fox said they were one of the few that still bids time and material, the other outfits go by their computerized or magic book . Fox Plumber left me with a functioning toilet at all times. He frequently vacuumed and left my house cleaner than when he arrived. What sold me was the Fox estimator. He was a baby-boomer age guy, who clearly knew his business the old fashioned way (he didn t need computers to determine his bid, just stood there in my former kitchen and hand-wrote a firm bid out on the form describing what they were to do). Not simply because it was the low bid, he suggested ways to trim the costs, like not doing air vent pipes since they won t leak water. Unbeknown to him was that those were the SAME suggestions already given by the dry rot contractor as well as the plumber inspector. That s when I felt comfortable about going with Fox. They were also ready to start work immediately. I am so LUCKY! When the Plumber tore out the walls, it turned out that toilet sewer 3(?) pipe already had 5 jury rigged splices made by previous owners, with illegal seals! If that had gone out again, it sure would have done a number on the new carpet. The plumber did a fantastic job! He was pleasant and so professional while doing quality work, carefully explaining what he was doing and why the seals he was installing were up to code (he showed me his card so that I would know that he was a licensed plumber). He also followed through with a statement of his findings, that I requested, to submit to finalize my class action lawsuit documents. I ve already been recommending Fox Plumbing to all my friends and favorite blogs ever since.
Description of Work: Replaced all my ABS drain and sewer pipes (HUGE job!) after mold abatement because previous original brand of pipes were made with defective resin. Fox tore out the plaster in the closet wall and closet ceiling of my 3rd bedroom, tore out part of ceiling in downstairs bathroom and part of the kitchen wall in order to access the pipes. Also tore out part of a wall in the garage to replace pipes for the laundry. The way they approached the job, though, left my fairly new tub surrounds and most of the walls in both bathrooms, as well as the staircase wall behind the laundry intact!

THIS IS A CONCERNING REPORT. OUR COMPANY DOES PROVIDE 24-HOUR EMERGENCY SERVICE. UNFORTUNATELY, WE HAVE A LIMITED STAFF ON THE WEEKENDS AND CANNOT MEET THE DEMANDS OF ALL CUSTOMERS AND CONSEQUENTLY MUST PRIORITIZE CALLS IN ORDER OF THE TYPE OF EMERGENCY. THIS PARTICULAR MEMBER DID LEAVE A MESSAGE IN THE MORNING THAT WAS NOT COMPLETELY CLEAR. THE PHONE NUMBER THAT WAS LEFT ON THE FIRST MESSAGE WAS NOT THE SAME NUMBER AS THE LAST 2 MESSAGES. SO WHEN THE SUPERVISOR TRIED TO CALL THIS MEMBER BACK IT WAS EVIDENT THAT WE HAD THE WRONG NUMBER. THIS MEMBER CALLED BACK A COUPLE HOURS LATER, THIS TIME WITH A DIFFERENT NUMBER, AND LEFT A MESSAGE. THE SUPERVISOR CALLED BACK WITHIN 15 MINUTES AND THIS MEMBER HAD SAID, "JUST FORGET IT. WE FOUND YOU ON ANGIE'S LIST AND ALREADY MADE A REPORT." THE SUPERVISOR APOLOGIZED AND OFFERED AN EXPLANATION TO THIS MEMBER BUT THE MEMBER HUNG UP THE PHONE.
