We were able to avert a potentially serious side sewer problem thanks to Fox Plumbing's quick and effective service, and their willingness to work in tandem with another sewer vendor who was doing work for us and our next door neighbor. The homes in this neighborhood were built in 1924 and most of the sewer lines are original: butt-ended sections of concrete pipe. It's usually just a matter of time before a problem occurs. Well, we were VERY lucky! The new owners of the house next door had a video inspection done of their side sewer, and it showed holes not only in their lines but in ours (the lines are parallel, a mere feet apart, and the inspector could see through our neighbor's holes, through a cavity in the earth, and into the holes in our lines!). A follow up video inspection of our lines showed not only the holes, but a serious root blockage 50 feet down our line. The conclusion: the only reason we hadn't experienced a serious back up was because those holes and the cavity between them was allowing our effluent to flow into and down our neighbor's line! We've been in our house 7 years; who knows how long that situation had existed. Fortunately, our neighbor's vendor offered to fix both of our lines as one project, allowing us to split the cost. As the work was taking place immediately, we needed to first unblock our line so that, once the holes were no more, our line wouldn't simply back up into our house. The neighbor's vendor (a small shop) couldn't fit it in his schedule. So we checked the Angie's List directory and called Fox, who sent Chad out the next day (Fox had also done a terrific job the previous summer at a neighbor's home that DID experience a catastrophic side sewer backup). He was able to use a cutter cable and clear the blockage. The two other vendors involved were terrific, as well, and I've reviewed them separately. They are Simply Sewers Inc. (replaced section of side sewer) and HydroPhysics (video inspection services).
Description of Work: Ran cutter cable from basement clean out to clear root blockage 50 ft. down the side sewer line that was impeding drainage. Followed up with a video inspection to ensure blockage was gone.

Very pleased with Chad's professionalism and the service I received when I made the appt. Called on Fri AM, they said they could come in the late afternoon. I needed someone sooner and they obliged. Appt scheduled for 11:00AM - 1:00PM, received a message at noon they were on their way, arrived close to 1:00PM. While they arrived a bit later then they said; they still managed to fix the problem by early Friday afternoon. In the future, Fox will be the 1st number I call when I need a plumber.

My pipe burst and I needed an emergency plumber. I recognize that during the cold snap plumbers probably had more work than they can handle, but by allowing me to leave messages on a line that promised the plumber would be paged and would get back to me shortly, they set an expectation that they would contact me. If they would have just said no I could have kept phoning other plumbers. This is poor customer service. All they needed to do was change their recording to say they couldn't respond, or to call and say it would be a few days.
Description of Work: I called twice and left two messages on the emergency request line. The recording said the emergency plumber would be paged and would call me. They never called back.

Response from Fox Plumbing & Heating
We would like to say that we are truly sorry for any inconvenience we may have caused this member. We, at Fox Plumbing and Heating, strive for 100% customer satisfaction every day. You can see this from many of our other Angie’s List reviews. After investigating this matter fully, including talking to the On-Call Manager, we have concluded that we did try to contact the member two times with no answer or way of leaving a voice mail. Unfortunately, we were not able to help her in her great time of need. As she acknowledged in her review, during the cold snap we were very busy. Due to the freezing conditions, we had many emergency calls and we made every attempt to reach each customer at a suitable time. I invite her to contact us, day or night, should she again find herself in the unfortunate position of needing an emergency plumbing service. We would like the opportunity to show her what 100% customer satisfaction is.

Whole service from start to finish was excellent.
Description of Work: We had frozen pipes for 3 days. After having city check the meter (city of bellevue is awesome - they were out within the hour), was able to tell Fox Plumbing service man Brian that problem was with our pipes. He immediately noticed that our main water shutoff was on a SE facing wall and subject to all the weather. He cut open the drywall very carefully and began using his "torch" to heat up. Said it could take 15-20 minutes. After a little while, he opened another dryway area below where the main water came in and we found our problem. Cold draft coming in and no insulation on the wall!! Within minutes of him heating it up we had water! He then went on to check every single water source in the house to make sure it was working well and there were no leaks. He was very nice, answered all my questions and was great to my two dogs too that were so curious! Outstanding service and he really knew what he was doing, which helped him quickly diagnose the problem. I highly recommend calling them.

This was the second time I have used Fox plumbing. We recieved a phone call in the morning, on the date of the service and was actually able to get the tech to our home, earlier then promised, which was a plus. The tech, Heath, was professional and courteous. Not only did he install the new toilet, and remove the old one, he also checked our house water pressure, which thankfully was in range, and pointed out that our hot water heater, and hoses on our washer, were due to be replaced. He did all this in a non-threatening manner, I did not feel obligated nor pressured to purchase anything. I appreciated that he left no mess for me to clean up after he was done. I would completely reccomend Fox Plumbing.

Jesse spent about 4-1/2 hours fixing my 1943 house, and even put up with my dogs, who had to follow him everywhere (they liked him) to see what he was doing. Great job - I will use Fox again, probably for the installation of their new low flow toilets. Excellent company - highly recommended.
Description of Work: Great work by Jesse at Fox Plumbing. He gave me quotes for work for slow draining bathtub, stopped up sink and possible problems on overflow trap. He cleaned out drains, crawled under the house in the crawl space to replace pipes and fittings, double-checked everything to make sure it worked and he still kept me under budget.

This is a follow-up to my report on work done by Fox on Oct 27th (report date was 10/30/09). As you can see, I've changed my overall rating from a B to an A. If I could give an A+, I would. Jose and Brian came out again (they were the guys from the first visit). This time the work was based on a fixed bid. As part of the bid, I had asked if there was a way I could do part of the pre-work to save costs, and they were willing to work with me. So I did all the work digging the trench from the water meter to where they needed to put in the line into the foundation of the house (by the way, it was 2 very long, hard and dirty days of work, even with a motorized trench digger...I have a whole new level of respect for plumbers!). Just like the first visit, they were completely professional. I like to ask a lot of questions just to understand more about the work. They always answered my questions thoroughly and were happy to provide as much information as I asked for. Since my first report, I did some calling around on typical costs for time/materials and they are very much in line with other plumbing companies, so I upgraded my rating on cost from fair to good (they were a bit higher than others, but not by much - and my experience is that you get what you pay for). Yes, I could have probably save a few dollars with another plumber I hadn't used before....IF I could have found another plumbing company willing to let me do the pre-work. But I knew these guys did excellent work and since they were willing to let me do the trench digging to save some costs, it was a no-brainer to have them come back to do the job. I would absolutely, positively recommend Fox based on my experience with Brian and Jose.

My first attempt to do this was a bust, as Fox managed to schedule the job for the wrong day. Eventually we straightened that out and they agreed to send an estimator out to fully understand the job and did so very expediently. The estimate and discussion of the job was very well done and I felt they recovered from their mistake very well, so I accepted their bid. It was planned to take a whole day or maybe slightly longer to demo and re-pipe and it definitely did. They got started a little late on the first day, but definitely worked a full day and made good progress. Some minimal supervision was necessary to make sure the installer did everything the way we wanted, but this is in the "normal" range and Kris was definitely very professional and good at what he does. The only area where I had some almost-issues was in the logistics of dealing with the timing of the inspection and making sure that the installer was around to hook up the furnace again after we passed inspection. We were without a furnace one night as we'd expected, but the installer was not really informed and didn't seem positive that he'd be staying on the job or coming back later in the day to finish the furnace hookup if he'd been done before the inspector arrived. The estimator had assured me this would be the case, so just a bit of missed communication I guess. They did a lot of work that I didn't want to do myself so it was worth the money, but they're plumbers, so you know, price is always an issue. I have to grade off on punctuality because of the initial scheduling screw-up and professionalism for a few issues here and there around approach to the job and to making sure everything got done before the inspector arrived and making sure the furnace got turned back on before the house froze.
Description of Work: Complete re-run of gas lines inside and under the house to accomodate wall movements as part of a remodel, as well as to account for several new gas appliances that will be added to the system. Rough-in complete job, pressure test system, and complete meter re-connect after inspection.

They came out to find a leak coming from the incoming water pipe into my house. Unfortunately, due to the unusual thickness of the foundation slab, they were unable to get to the leak (apparently neither had seen this before, and it's not the first time I've found that the construction of my place was different than the norm...so I'm not surprised, honestly). The solution they came up with was to cut this pipe at the water meter and run a garden hose into my house through an outside faucet. I thought this was a great temporary solution so I would have some time to decided what to do about installing a new water service line into the house. So I'm happy with that part. And it did stop the leak in the house, which is great. My only complaint is that since they do "time and material" work, it came to about $1000. Although they fixed the initial problem, I now have a much more expensive problem on my hands (their bid to run the new water service line into the house was about $6700 - but they would deduct the $1000 already spent from that total - that bid was a fixed price, not time/materials). The new problem is certainly not their fault - let me be clear on that. And the two guys were very creative in how I could fix this (one of the other options would be to continue to dig deeper and further until they found the leak...but that could potentially be very, very expensive according to them, and I expect that would be true). So I'm quite happy with their professionalism and expertise and would hire them again, if needed. I found spending $1000 seemed too expensive. But it could be that most plumbers around here charge similar rates and also on the same "time and materials" basis. It's the first time I've needed a plumber here. Since the work that was done was done well, and they came up with a creative way to fix the problem, I'd definitely recommend them. It would have been nice to have a flat rate so I'd have a good expectation on the cost. And I probably wouldn't be complaining if they had been able to completely solve the problem for $1000. Again, not their fault. They explained to me before they started best and worst case scenarios...unfortunately for me, it turned out to be worst case. So I give them a "B" overall since I thought the overall experience was good...you'll see I gave them all "A"s except for cost where I think their price was only fair. This is a follow-up to my report on work done by Fox on Oct 27th (report date was 10/30/09). As you can see, I've changed my overall rating from a B to an A. If I could give an A+, I would. Excellent experience from beginning to end. We called outside normal business hours due to a flooded garage. The dispatcher called us back within 10 minutes. They continued to call us back and let us know where we were in the queue and when to expect someone. The plumber called to let us know when he was on his way and again when traffic was causing him to revise his arrival time. Dave Gonzalus was terrific to work with. He was very courteous, explained what the problem was, what was needed to fix it and what we could do to prevent the problem in the future. This is the third time I have used Fox and each time has been a very positive experience. They folllow-up after each call to make sure the work was done to the customer's satisfaction. Highly recommend this company.

It was an excellent experience! After I called they had a tech here in 25 minutes. The plumber who showed up was named Marcus. Marcus was very professional, efficient, and thorough. While the work was being done, a tree service company across the street ran over and busted my water meter. After Marcus finished his work, he stayed at my house for an extra hour and called all the services needed to help me fix my water meter. He truly went above and beyond the services that I requested. Also, they don't even charge for travel!

We were having carpet pulled up in our living room when the contractor noticed that the ceiling was leaking over a 3' x 4' area. We stopped the work immediately and started looking for a plumber to diagnose and repair the problem. I looked on Angie's List and called about 3 companies. The people at Fox Plumbing were very helpful and scheduled someone to come out within two hours of my call. Other companies didn't call back until later that afternoon or the next day?not much help in an emergency. Kris arrived on time and diagnosed the problem fairly quickly as coming from a eroded gasket our upstairs bathroom and was able to make the repairs within a couple of hours. He was personable, knowledgeable and very professional. We had him look at other sinks in the house and found similar problems. We had him fix a couple of those also while he was here. We now know to fix the others as we are able to do so and as budget allows.

These guys were truly AMAZING. We called on a Friday, had a same-day estimate (their estimate was the middle of three competing quotes), and they were out first thing Monday with their equipment. They were prompt, extremely courteous, and great on follow-up. They worked closely with the city and utility energy locating services to make sure they didn't disrupt sewer/phone/cable/power lines. The most amazing piece to me was they tunneled UNDERNEATH our front lawn to install replacement pipe. Once they were done, you COULD NOT TELL that they'd even been in our yard or home! The only exception was a *small* amount of sheetrock they had to remove (which they told me in advance); even for this they put it back in-place and you can barely tell the sheetrock was cut out. 50-year warranty on pipe & 10-year on labor.

Went great overall. Not an emergency plumbing situation, but something that had to be done. So I'm glad I took care of it. 1.5 hours labor totaled $306, which seems like a lot of $. But plumbing is expensive, and I knew that going in. Marcus, the plumber, was friendly and also very professional. He kept me apprised throughout his work, and advised me that moving the shut-off valve would create a hole in my wall that would require patching. I'm no plumber, but I can do an easy sheetrock patch. I would call Fox again, and would request Marcus to do the work.
