DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY!! My insurance company had me to use this company to refinish my floors after a water leak. They pushed me to use the Bona Traffic water based product on my oak floors. DO NOT use this product if you had original "Swedish finish" style flooring. My floors are 30 years old and showed practically no wear in any of the main traffic areas with exception to the small section that got water damaged. With the Bona Traffic product on the floors, ALL OF THE FLOORS SHOW WEAR AND SCRATCHES. This product is merely a STAIN, it does not protect the wearing of your floors. Our neighbors told us NOT to use the water based finish as they and their friends had seen the results. We requested MULTIPLE TIMES to have the original finish applied (a polyurethane product) and were steered away from it every time by Ron Oliver of Flooring America. He assured us it would be better than the original floor. This is NOT TRUE. I had requested to another employee at Flooring America who was doing the main scheduling and communication with me that we would only use the Bona product if it was assured to us that it would be the same as our original floor. We were still pushed into using the Bona product. There is much to this story starting 2 weeks after the floors were refinished. We have complained to our insurance company (who is still trying to help), Flooring America (WORTHLESS CUSTOMER SERVICE), a Bona representative, and engineers. WE ARE NOT HAPPY. Flooring America WILL NOT HELP US. We paid them and they are telling us we should be satisfied. WE ARE NOT and will TELL EVERYONE WE KNOW NOT TO USE FLOORING AMERICA OR THE BONA PRODUCT. It is an unreal lack of customer service, of doing the right thing of making it right to the customer. Mind you, the total job was only about $7000. For what we've been through you would think it was $70,000!! BOTTOM LINE: DO NOT USE FLOORING AMERICA OR BONA PRODUCT.

Hello Member, It's true that our preference is to use Bona Traffic for sanding and refinishing, as it is the industry leader for commercially-rated, water-borne polyurethane finishes. There is a procedure to use a traditional acid-cured, oil-modified finish, such as a "traditional Swedish finish," and we were prepared to apply this finish but you opted for Bona. We are sorry you're disappointed with your floors but as we, the Bona representative, and the engineer hired by your insurance carrier, have all said - the floors are performing as expected. Hardwood floors will dent, scratch, and show wear - that's part of their beauty. If you'd like to discuss this matter further, please feel free to contact us directly. Thank you.

I have no idea why Flooring America has any positive reviews. How did anyone actually get them to come out and do an estimate? I never write reviews, but this has to be the worst flooring company ever. Let me first start by saying my place is only 3 miles from their office, a 10-15min drive. I figured of any of the dozens of companies I called, Flooring America would be one of the companies to come do an estimate. Boy was I wrong. The initial receptionist I talked to was okay, but the guy she transferred me to, one of the guys who do the estimate, was the worst employee ever! I told the guy what was going on and that the insurance company representing the delivery company wanted me to get two estimates to move the work forward. Immediately this guy was saying how he works with insurance companies all the time and how he was so busy and couldn't come do an estimate for a couple of days. He told me I'm at the "bottom of the pile" and that he'll get to me soon. I gave the guy my contact info, etc., and he said he would call me back when he would come out and do an estimate. He never called. I called back after a couple of days to check-in. Again, he was hemming and hawing about coming out to do an estimate. He told me to send pictures of the damages so he could take a look, and said he was super busy and couldn't come out for another two weeks now. How did a couple of days turn into two weeks? He was trying to come up with every excuse possible to not come do an estimate. When I called a third time, he asked if I had a blueprint of my house so I can send to him?! Really?! Just come do the freakin estimate buddy?! This guy even told me that Flooring America is on the expensive side to try to get me to go somewhere else. What the heck?! The company I ended up going with came out the same day I called, and was super courteous, professional, knowledgable, etc. They understood how the insurance companies work and provided me what I needed. The guy from Flooring America claimed to have tons of experience with insurance companies and made it sound like the insurance company wasn't going to pay up. He told me to call my own insurance company to work with the other insurance company to pay. What gave him the idea the insurance company wasn't going to pay? I told him they accepted responsibility for the damages and that they would pay. I just needed to give them two estimates. I even told the guy from Flooring America my intent was to go with them since they were close to my house and highly rated on Angie's list. All I can say is that I must of dodged a bullet thanks to this guy from Flooring America. I can only imagine the unprofessionalism and service I would have received if I had gone with them to actually fix my floors. If the service sucks just trying to get an estimate, what can you expect if they do the actual work?! Never in my life have I had a service company actually try to NOT get my business. Anytime I ever needed an estimate for any work, the companies I'd call was all over it. In the end, I was happy with the other company I went with. Insurance company paid $9K for 400 sq ft of hardwood flooring that needed to be refinished in stain. Flooring America, that could have been $9K going to your business for what you know would have been maybe $3K of actual cost. Good luck staying in business with your estimators.

Often times there are issues with company's not taking responsibility for damaging peoples' homes, so we're very glad that not only did the company/insurance take care of everything but that you were able to find someone to assist you with the repairs.

Good. Ron Oliver was our contact. We were happy with the final result. It took longer than we expected to get the materials and schedule installation but were told the tile was in California and took time (3 weeks) to get up here without a guarantee it would match. I was also surprised that sealing the new tile was not included but Ron said it was too hard for them to match the seal with the old tile. We did it ourselves and it matched.

Fabulously. They accommodated the dates we had available because we were also having the house painted. They special ordered the flooring I had selected from another vendor. in the kitchen they made a template so they could match the pattern in a complicated floor arrangement so that there was only one seam in the installation. They did a beautiful job matching the edge of the stone fireplace to the vinyl flooring. The installers brought the flooring right up to the edge of the wall so we could use the baseboard that we had. We did not have to install corner round edging to cover any gaps between the baseboard and the floor edge. They were prompt and cleaned up after themselves. They corrected one questionable area where the vinyl flooring met the hardwood.

It was a very seamless process...the provider let me check out carpet samples and make sure I liked the look/color with the lighting in our space. They gave us time and were not "pushy", but very informative in regards to the products and how they would work with our lifestyle (ie: kids/pets/high traffic areas of the house). Installation team was very courteous and professional - followed directions and got their work done timely.

Hi Members, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with Angie's List. We appreciate your honesty about our punctuality, and we'll keep working on that - there's always room for improvement, right? Because this was an insurance claim, our pricing is based on the price list from the insurance carrier, however we try to be as competitive as possible for things outside the claim scope. My insurance company recommended them. They billed the insurance company. Overall, I think they did a really good job. There were some bifold doors that needed to be installed and they weren't there when the flooring guys were there so they took it out of the bid and now I am getting a handyman to do it. They didn't really quite finish the job because it was in the estimate. It was an all day job for them and they did a really good job. They were kind of under a time crunch to get everything done because the hot water tank was being installed right after them. It was probably a lot of work, but it just seemed like the price was really high. I don't know if it was high because of the insurance company. I don't know what their standing is now on Angie's List.

Hello Member! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with Angie's List. We're sorry that we met you because of an insurance loss, we know how stressful and inconvenient an insurance loss can be. Because we are part of your insurance carrier's vendor program and this was billed directly to them, our pricing is determined by a national pricelist the insurance carrier requires us to use. We're sorry that we weren't able to reinstall the bifold doors when we did the flooring installation; had they been onsite when we were there, we would have rehung them as included in our estimate. If the mitigation company that removed them is not able to rehang them, please let us know and we'd be happy to help you find someone to hang them for you. Thank you for the opportunity to help you restore your home after your insurance loss. -Flooring America

It went very well and the quality of work was first rate. Due to a supplier shipping the wrong parts and the complexity of my staircase, compounded by my previously scheduled vacation in mid project, it did take longer than I had hoped. But the team did a great job of communicating and managing my expectations. I am very happy with my new floors and highly recommend this company.

They have transformed my home, and they made it a painless process. The new finish is beautiful and durable -- I probably won't have to go back to them for 25 years. What I really appreciated is that they never balked at obstacles that came up -- they removed old carpeting and thick paint from much of the 67-year-old flooring, and, most important, they completely refloored sections (like in some closets) covered in plywood instead of oak planks, and they did it in a way that you cannot distinguish between the new and original flooring. Great craftsmanship!

Flooring America (Seattle) did a excellent job from start to finish. Jim did a comprehensive assessment and estimate and worked closely with us to stage the work so that it was done efficiently and with as little impact on us as could be expected. Jim also recommended an excellent home repair service to deal with some leaking french doors that were discovered during the assessment. Ilaria was delightful in working with us to select the wall-to-wall. Steve and Brian did an outstanding job refinishing the old hardwoods and installing the new. The matching where the two jobs met was seamless. Patrick and his colleague did another outstanding job installing the wall-to-wall. Everyone was personable, professional, communicative, attentive to keeping to the agreed upon schedule, handled our furniture with care, and was great about clean-up. We recommend Flooring America highly.

They were recommended to us by our insurance company. They do not stock any product, so we had to order the carpet which I was not aware of initially. The carpet got postponed twice. The installation was very professionally done. The installers were very efficient and knowledgeable. I do have a seam in the middle of the room which I need to have them come look at. They then call me afterwards to collect the deductible which was a little strange.

Flooring America was contracted to install carpet and vinyl in our approximately 1000 sq. ft. mobile home. The carpet is satisfactory, but the vinyl that was installed in the kitchen is coming up at one of the seams, and in one area there appears to be something under the vinyl. It is several inches long and and approximately 1/4 " high. Prior to paying the bill, the installer came back out, at our request, to look at an area behind the washer/dryer that was not to our satisfaction. This ended with a shouting match between the installer and my husband. Since the problem area is behind the washer/dryer, we decided to forget it and live with that. However, the two areas described in the first paragraph came to our attention after the bill was paid. I have reported the problem to Flooring America on several occasions, and sent an email asking for them to correct the problem. The person that wrote the contract for the work, and with whom I spoke on several occasions, said he would take care of it. That was the last time I spoke with him. This has been going on for 3 months and I cannot get them to come out and repair the problem. If you hire these people, don't pay until you are absolutely sure everything is done right. Flooring America has failed to stand behind their work. Once the bill was paid they completely ignored my requests to repair the areas that have come to our attention after payment. I would not recommend the company to anyone. Overall, I would give this company and F.

Response from Flooring America
I’m so sorry to have learned that you are dissatisfied with your experience with Flooring America. I also apologize that I did not learn of this matter until I spotted the review, and consequently, was not able to address it sooner. I hope that we can resolve this situation to both your satisfaction and ours. Although I was not involved in your job personally, this is my understanding of it as described by my employees. We were contracted to provide materials and installation of carpet and vinyl in your home; the removal and replacement of the toilet, washer/dryer and base trim were excluded from the scope of our work. After the bathroom vinyl was installed, the installer was told that we needed to reinstall the toilet. The installer reminded the client that this was outside the scope of the work; when the client said that they were unable to replace the toilet themselves, we reinstalled it at no charge. The craftsman and project manager were both aware of the issue regarding a gap behind the washer/dryer. At the time of installation our craftsman explained that the 1/8 inch gap, required for expansion in felt-backed vinyl, would be covered by the base trim. We were aware that there was a dispute between your husband and our craftsman. At this point, I’m not entirely sure whether the vinyl dispute was about the ascetics of the gap between the vinyl and the wall or if the dispute was over how to adequately protect a vinyl floor from potential water damage. Please allow me to address both: the gap is necessary for expansion of felt-backed vinyl, rubber base would address the ascetic concerns regarding seeing the gap. As to protecting the floor itself from any type of water damage, unfortunately, there really isn’t any way to protect it from water damage – once water is on the floor, it’s on the floor – neither base, nor caulk, nor anything else for that matter will protect a floor from water damaging it. We attempted to address the vinyl/rubber base issue a second time. Our project manager returned to the home and discussed the matter with the clients. At that time the husband said that he understood the issues regarding the gap, he did not want rubber base and he would consider caulking the vinyl/wall transition himself. The project manager offered to help him move the washer/dryer back into place, the client declined (saying that he had additional work to complete behind the washer/dryer) and we believed that the issues were resolved. To my knowledge, we were not aware of the other issues regarding the vinyl that were asserted in the review (seams and lump). If there is an issue with our workmanship, we will certainly fix it. When I read this review I immediately spoke with the project manager, he then called and apologized to the customer and asked what we could do to resolve the situation and restore the customer’s satisfaction. The client told our project manager that they were not interested in allowing us to rectify the situation. As the owner, I extend my sincere apologies to the member's both for our apparent shortcomings during the job and for not addressing their concerns sooner; had they contacted me directly I believe we would have been able to resolve the situation to everyone’s satisfaction. Members, we remain committed to providing excellent service, please do not hesitate to contact me personally if you wish to discuss this matter further. -Jim

Overall, we had a very good experience with Flooring American and the Magnus Anderson system. The installers were punctual and professional. I would only use the Magnus Anderson system for refinishing hardwood floors in the future. They did not have to seal off any rooms with plastic and there was only minimal dust from them having to hand sand the corners. Also, we could be in our home and only had to be gone during the varnish and drying time. My only complaint, which I have had similar with other contractors, is the sudden change in schedule. The sales representative did not call me until the time the job was scheduled for to let me know it would be the next day that they could begin. My job began one day late and was not finished until two work days following the original schedule. In short, I would highly recommend them and would definitely use them again.

I was referred to them from someone. I worked with Jim, the owner. He was helpful and friendly. He was willing to work around my schedule to come and take measurements.
Description of Work: I used Flooring America to purchase carpet and they installed it. I also purchased tile to install myself.
