They were friendly and helpful in setting up the appointment, but when the guy got here he immediately started doing the "this is a tricky job" routine. As though replacing a pendant ceiling fixture is a hard job. Granted, the ceilings are high. Roughly 20ft, but I believe thats what ladders are for. Also he claimed that the fixture in place is a heavy one. Its a ceramic half circle about 15inches in diameter. Basically he quoted $385 for a job that he said would take an hour & 30 mins tops? When I told him "no thanks", he started explaining that it wold cover me in the future if I decided I didn't like the new fixture after all. I called another company I found on Angies list and they told me over the phone that it would be $185 at the most.

In reading your review your scoring disappoints me. We offer a no cost, no obligation appointment so we can see the job before we give you a price. We stand behind our price (it never changes -- if it takes us longer or if parts change, etc.) and we offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee. The job you are describing -- 20' ceilings, a ceramic 15" fixture, and installing a new fixture (which you have not described), is easily a $385 job. The missing information is that $385 would have a AL discount applied plus tax. We continually review our prices and know that we are competitively priced for the quality of services we deliver. I understand you chose to not do business with us based on price, however you stated you liked our punctuality and professionalism. We pride ourselves on our quality of services provided, that does come at a higher price than some of the "cheap charlies" out there... however rarely if ever, do those "cheap charlies" deliver the quality and service customers desire. It is a tricky trade off. We wish you the best of luck in your project.

We bought the $99 for $299 of electrical service deal based on all the positive reviews for Mister Sparky on Angie's List. Our main issue was a non-working whole house fan, but we opted to take care of the other issues as well. Style, the technician, was friendly, knowledgeable and honest about pricing and all the different options available. He was never pushy and didn't try to up-sell us...which is a big part of the reason we wanted HIM to do the extra work. Scheduling w/ Wendy in the office was a breeze, and Style called when he was on his way. He came out on a Wednesday to scope out the work, and after ordering the replacement fan & motor he returned the following Monday to do the install. We're VERY happy with the quality of the work, the honesty of the technician, AND the 3yr warranty on parts and labor. And the Angie's List deal certainly helped make it more affordable. THANK YOU, Mister Sparky!! :)
Description of Work: Replaced Whole House Fan, including modifying the opening for the new fan & disconnecting the wiring to the old timer in the garage; Replaced motor in smaller bathroom fan; Installed two new wall switch timers.

The big deal is worth $299 which I assumed would help me replace quite a few plugs since I provided materials. As it turned out, at their standard price, I would barely get 4 plugs replaced. It's a bit pricey.

Electrician was cheerful, friendly, respectful, knowledgeable, did a fine job.--no complaints there. However, I was shocked to find their standard "diagnosis charge." Better ask!!! So, to diagnose my problems (2 sockets/outlets needed replacing, (which I already knew) and kitchen fan and switch didn't work (I already knew) but that the kitchen items could not be replaced without buying a whole new stove etc. (which I didn't know) took up well over $200 of my package---that together with their $59 trip fee (which they did disclose ahead of time) meant I'd have to pay extra for any actual work to be done. So their "special package deal" didn't seem so special after all. Use for good service, but not for good price.

[Removed member name] I am sorry you didn't know about the trip charge, however it was outlined in the terms of the deal. As for the diagnosis that is how we operate to ensure that before we make a repair we can ensure that that the cause will not reoccur. If we simply replaced failed outlets there is a high likelihood of return trips as something typically causes an outlet to fail -- loose connections, faulty items, overloading, etc. If you would like to contact the office we may be able to find a more economical option for the fan -- my technicians don't always know everything available and we can contact a sales rep who can assist.

Made an appointment 10 days in advance to insure work could be done on a day off work. Explained to the scheduler that the light hung over a dining room table in a condo with cathedral ceilings. The scheduler said this would not be a problem but then CANCELLED the appointment at 5:00 the night before because they didn't have a tall enough ladder.

As described in the message -- that was left because there was no answer to the 2 attempts to call -- the ceiling height wasn't the problem... It was getting a ladder to the third floor that would reach 16 ft -- for less than $200. It was not doable by us. A price range was left and encouraged to call if that worked -- I guess it didn't. No work was completed, we were upfront and honest.

The representative was thorough in looking in our attic and the existing venting to estimate the job, but where four other compaines all quoted in the $450-$500 range (including the cost of the fan), Mister Sparky quoted the job at $2,500. The gentleman explained that we have aluminum wiring in our attic and it all had to be completely replaced to the electrical box. While I know that aluminum wiring isn't code now, it's not exactly accurate that finding it requires immediate re-wiring. Our perception of the quote and information was that it was a scare tactic to increase the cost of a $500 job to a $2,500 job rather than address our actual needs. If any of the other 4 electricians (all found on Angie's List) had recommended this course of action I would not be writing this review. But none of them said this was work that was necessary to ensure the safety of our home.

They scheduled to come out quickly, I'll certainly give them that when it's hard to find anyone who will return a phone call let alone schedule an appointment to do small electrical jobs. On the day that they were to arrive I was given a window from 12-2. My daughters dentist appointment went long so I called them at 12 because I was afraid I'd miss them. As it turned out they called me back saying that they were running late and wouldn't be here until after 1:30. When 1:30 came around they called again saying that they were going to be later still. I believe they arrived about 2:15 or 2:30. The tech was professional and understanding of my project. Unfortunately when they showed me the price I had to send him away. We have a basement room which is exposed to the studs along the wall with all the wiring running through it. No drywall would need to be damaged to fish wires and holes were already drilled that the new wire could have been run though. For removing one square light fixture (up in the ceiling) and running a connecting wire through those exposed holes he quoted me 471 + tax. This seems a bit steep to me. From reading Angie's list, I've learned that a standard electrician charges about 70-80 per hour. This is not more than 1 or 2 (if you are slow) hours of work. I might have agreed to pay it to save myself the headache of finding someone else to come out if it had been 300 but almost 500? No way. Sorry Mr. Sparky, but your price by project structure is a bit out of my budget. What makes this even more interesting is that even though the price was taken from a laminated spreadsheet, they were not able to give me an estimate of how much this sort of thing would cost over the phone. My guess... they are expecting you to just give in a pay the higher price because the guy is there and you'd rather pay it than continue to shop around. It's a clever business model but a bit of dirty pool.

I am sorry the price didn't meet your expectations. The current rate for a licensed bonded electrician is actually probably much higher than you expected, handyman are charging $85-$100 an hour. I understand from talking to my technician that there was previous work completed that was sub-standard that he was also going to have to address in the installation of the lighting. He was estimating the amount of work taking him 3.5-4.5 hours which is accurate pricing. Also remember that all our prices come with a 3 year warranty -- and we only use the best quality of materials. When it comes to service work you have 3 components -- quality, price and time. Pick the 2 most important to you -- it will be reflected in the completed project -- as a good company can't do all 3.

Maximum market rate electricians are in the $100 per hour range. At the most, I would have expected this work to take three hours... I'm taking my business elsewhere. This estimate represents extreme price gouging in my opinion. I'd be very careful about using this company. The representative was prompt and professional during his attempted "cashectomy...!" Followup: I got someone else to complete the job in 4 hours using about $75 worth of materials...
Description of Work: I wanted an estimate to re-connect two dead wall outlets on a low wall on my back porch. The Mr. Sparky representative initially wanted to charge me $247 for a diagnostic service, even though they state that they provide free estimates. When I complained about the cost, the representative spent about 15 minutes looking at my problem and came up with a solution: 1) Drill through the wall near the electrical panel, which was close to the outlets in question. (There was already an existing conduit leading into the electrical panel u[on which to base hole placement.) 2) Fish the wire down to the panel 3) Connect to the panel 4) Install a new GFI outlet 5) Connect the wiring to the new outlet, making the other live (the two outlets were wired together). The proposed cost for this was $1200???

I needed to see how much knob and tube is in my house. The tech made special effort to get to the house on time as I had limited time to spend. He did a thorough job checking the electrical and gave a detailed bid. I was however shocked (pun) by the price, but that may be what the going price is. Because it is so expensive I need to get other bids. If the price is right I may use them but I will need to check with my contractor also who is doing some other work.

They coordinated with the siding company so the new siding where the power comes in and new service would happen at the same time. The work they did was professional and top quality and I was duly impressed. They also did some small things above and beyond the contract like extending the cable into the cable TV box so the box could be moved. I would highly recommend them. A+ in my book! Their price was a wee higher than another bid. I originally chose Emerald City Electric (the lower bid) but ended up using Mister Sparky because ECE was not familiar with basic communication skills. They did fabulous work and I will be using them when I upgrade and re-wire the house.

Best experience with a contractor yet! Tom, recent to the company, was punctual, polite, and very informative. I had expected to receive only a quote, but once i was given the price, i was ready to commit to their service. He the parts on hand so was able to perform the service immediately. Once started we had many problems found with an old house. Once i asked if there was a price difference, he stated "No". What should have been a 2 hour project, took almost 5 hours. No difference in price from what was quoted. He did a fantastic job ensuring the fans were properly placed and made sure everything was cleaned up prior to leaving. i will definitely use this company again for any electrial projects.

They were great! Cory and Dave were on time and on budget. This was a lot of work and it was completed in a timely fashion with no disruption to our routine. When they came into the house, both put on protective shoe coverings and when they were done everything was cleaned up. They vacuumed the carpets and picked up all of the little bits of wire! The only way I knew that they were in the room was our new light in our master bedroom. This house was built in 1987, the panel was a mess, and the wiring in the garage was done by the previous homeowner and wasn't done correctly. Really what we ended up with besides all of the improvement was peace of mind! If you are looking for small electrical work or a bigger project, I highly recommend Mister Sparky. Make sure you use the one owned by Dave Lind, in Seattle. So, in summary: Great "fixed" pricing Excellent workers (thank you Cory and Dave Great value

First off, they were can do and positive in approach. The work needed to be done in a short time frame. They arrived on time on a Saturday morning and two technicians--one was the owner/manager--completed the job in an hour or so. They took the time to analyze the situation and the nature of the job to be done as well as how to perform it as efficiently and seamlessly as possible. It was clear to me they were thoughtful in their approach. The work they performed fully satisfied the buyer and his agent. Can't get any better than this!

I went with Mr. Sparky due to the reviews here on Angie's List. The dispatcher scheduled my appointment between 3 - 5 on Friday afternoon. The poor electrician had to travel all the way from Yelm which was an hour away on aFriday afternoon to get to me. He was a bit late but he was very apologetic. His level of professionalism was top of the line. After the service was done, he didn't charge me a dime for the work because he was late. Now this is excellent customer service!!
