The people were nice. We had a lot of damage afterwards as far as the house itself and the stuff that was moved. The people working for him seemed maybe new. They scratched a wall and dresser. Overall it was good. They could slow down a little bit and take their time.

The lady at the office told me it should not be more than 5 hours. They ended up wrapping small items taking their time. After 8 1/2 hours of this I asked them to stop. They brought the rest of what was in the truck and left it. I would not use them again.

Response from Express Movers Inc
Not true. This woman was quoted 5 hours to move goods into storage. BUT AT THE LAST MINUTE SHE CHANGED THE MOVE TO A DIFFERENT DESTINATION AND WAS GIVEN AN UPDATED WRITTEN ESTIMATE FOR INCREASED MOVE TIME TO WHICH SHE SIGNED HER APPROVAL. We explained that moving to an apartment in another town would increase the time and cost because: The travel time would be longer Instead of going from a loading dock directly to a storage unit, every itemnow must be carried across a parking lot, up an elevator, down halls, placed in rooms and unwrapped. She failed to reserve the elevator; the crew had to wait for others with nearly every load, which added to the time. Despite this she was charged for only 7.25 hours. We wrote off the remaining balance. The original plan was for two moves, first into storage and later from storage to the apartment. Because the apartment was ready early she ended up paying for only one move -about half what she originally expected to be charged

This was a big deal. I called before I signed up and was talked into taking the more expensive deal. However, my estimate was closer to correct and I had $116 and change left over from the deal. Not only did I not get a refund - even a partial one - but Express charged my account the $116 + change. They reversed the incorrect billing as soon as I called but wouldn't do anything about the overpayment. If I had gone with the cheaper deal or even just hourly, I could have ended up paying just as much but it is the tactics I object to. What is kind of strange is they knew this was to be a round trip move. They could have offered to apply the difference to the second move and still made money I am sure. As it is, they lost my business. As for the actual movers, one was excellent, one was pretty good and one was pretty bad. My only complaints about the actual move were that one piece of furniture was slightly damaged and a corner of a newly painted wall was nicked pretty badly. I know these things happened and would have told them not to worry about it if they had alerted me. But they didn't tell me which makes me wonder what other things I just haven't found yet. This is my last Big Deal.

WE DON'T OFTEN GET COMPLAINTS BECAUSE THE JOB COST LESS THAN ESTIMATED We estimated three movers and four and one half hours to complete this move. We recommended the three person storefront coupon which covers up to four hours. This lady purchased it knowing she would probably have to pay for at least an extra half hour at full price. But on the day of this move things went like clockwork. Traffic was better than usual, access was unimpeded and the movers worked very quickly, finishing an hour faster than anticipated. This saved the client at least $77, since she did not have to pay for the anticipated extra half hour. (Unfortunately, there is no change with a discount coupon but we would have been happy to apply the difference to the second part of the move had this customer suggested it.) As she pointed out, if she had purchased the smaller coupon the move would have cost the same or more. She was also charged by mistake, which was reversed the moment it was discovered. Angies List keeps a large percentage of the coupon price so we make more money by selling the lesser coupon and charging full price for more of the move time. However we recommend what we think will be in the best interest of the client. Most of the time folks are happy when the move goes faster and costs less than estimated.

The service was fine. It ended up not being a Deal. The estimate was off and we had all kinds of issues. The storage where I had my stuff, the street was closed. It was kind of a bad experience all the way around that has little to do with the moving company itself. They came out the same week when I purchased the Big Deal. I paid about $300 more an hourly fee. I think they could improve on being punctual and having the newer supervisor punctual. Once they got there, they were very responsive.

Purchased an Angie's list deal for 3 movers for 4 hours. They showed up on time, moved all of the items in my house I needed help with including taking down my sleigh bed and reassembling at the new house. They were on time quick and even made sure not to get the carpets dirty. Would definitely use them again.

I worked with Tony one of the owners to understand their service and discuss some of my concerns about a number of poor reviews express movers has on file. She was very helpful and helped me secure my moving date for Saturday November 7, 2015 The movers called the morning of the move as we had agreed upon to let us know they were leaving the express movers parking to come the university district. It took them well over an hour to arrive. They did not call again to let us know they were arriving and the driver did not get out and scout the alley before turning in to decide if they should back in or drive in. They told us there was an accident that held them up. I asked if they check traffic conditions on line to chose the best route before leaving. Apparently they do not. The driver of the truck was by her own admission not a driver and inexperienced. They spent 10 minutes to 15 minutes attempting to back into the parking lot off the alley below our apartment. She said the truck had just been fixed and she did not want to damage it again. There was adequate space to maneuver the truck if they had sent an experienced driver. The driver also the lead mover came in to sign the papers and looked at the items to move but did not organize her assistant or us in the order of items to move. Her assistant was hung over with a strong odor of alcohol and unorganized. He was not strong enough to move many items and my son and I did much of the moving. The driver did not direct the work. She packed things well but left all the decisions on getting things out to the truck to assistant who was not capable. They got the truck to Georgetown in a timely manner. Again the assistant made poor decisions on which door to bring items to my sons new place in Georgetown. My son, his girlfriend and I did the majority of the move. The driver worked hard but did not organize her assistant or the move. The assistant at times was just absent as the driver and we worked to move. I have moved a number of times in the past two years. This moving team needed additional training and wasted time and were unorganized. if there had been any real heavy items they would not have been able to move the items safely. The price was good and having the large truck was helpful. Suggest Two men with a truck for moving if you need a better experience

• THIS MOVE WAS COMPLETED 1.75 HOURS FASTER, AT CONSIDERABLY LESS COST THAN ESTIMATED. • A.M. Travel took exactly 1 hour, as expected. (20 miles, through downtown Seattle, in heavy morning traffic takes time.) • Of course it takes a few minutes to maneuver a large truck in unfamiliar surroundings…but , as noted, the job was completed in well under the estimated time. • There was no need for the customer to “help”, he chose to do so, wanting to reduce the time & cost to less than estimated. • We send workers appropriate for the job at hand. Had there been large or heavy items we would have sent a different crew. • If an employee arrived smelling of alcohol, the office staff and driver would have noticed and he would have been replaced.

Thank you for the kind words, we're glad you would hire us again. Because this was a second move for the day, we told you in advance that the start time was tentative. It's impossible to set a start time since we cannot know exactly how long the first move will take. We provided a target time, advised that we might arrive earlier or later, and let you know when to expect us as soon as we knew.

It turned out okay. I will tell you they were scheduled to come to my house on Friday. They had staffing problems; some people called in to work. They were supposed to be there that morning. They called at around noon to tell me that it was going to be delayed until about 2 o'clock. Then they called me around 2 o'clock and told me that the staff member was not reporting at all so they could not come. So they pushed the move out to Saturday and they showed up Saturday so there actually was a delay in our move date because of that. They did make it right on Saturday, I mean they did a good job, but they did not, like, compensate us for any of our inconvenience or anything like that. Luckily it was not a situation where their arrival and delivery of our furniture was dependent on us moving out or anything like that, thank goodness. It could have been a real problem. They had significant additional charges. Also, I purchased an Angie's Deal with a staff of four or four for five hours, if I am not mistaken. Also it was to be a 26-foot truck, but what they showed up with was three staff people and a smaller truck. It got kind of complicated as to what was paid, but I do know we paid an additional amount. They told us that it took them three hours hours to pull items our of storage and load the truck. I was kind of surprised about that because, quite frankly it was not that many items. I think it took an excessively long time to pull items out of storage out of their warehouse. It took about two hours for them to unload items into storage. I think they are very expensive.

We’re glad to see this customer thinks we did a good job again. This was the 5th move we’ve done for her. Here are the details: • The move was done faster and the cost came in at $116 less than estimated. (With her Angie’s discount it was actually $330 less than estimated.) Our price did increase by a negligible $2 hr since her first move in 2011. • We were scheduled for early afternoon arrival (after inventory, padding and loading all the goods from storage in the morning). • An ill worker made us late so we offered the option to finish same day or take delivery the next day – she chose to have us come the next day for her convenience, as she had an event Friday night. • The job only required 3 movers, but we allowed her to use a 4 person coupon – giving her a lower hourly rate and higher discount. • The coupon offered a 24’ truck, the size that was used. • The customer was provided a detailed, itemized statement.

The good: - Administration: Toni at the office was, with some exceptions, very responsive and helpful over the course of several weeks? planning while my needs frequently changed. She provided a lot of helpful information leading up to the move and gave a quote that ended up being close to the final price. When we contacted her about issues during the move, she was responsive, understanding, and reasonable. - The Actual Move: the time spent actually moving went well. Nelson, Stefan, and Ahmed were reasonably efficient moving boxes from the condo to the truck, and Irin, Stefan, and Greg were wonderful about getting everything into our new place during a rare Seattle thunderstorm. They also helped lift the washer & dryer so we could slide a spill tray underneath and lent their help in disassembling a sofa so it would fit up a narrow staircase. There were a few minor dents put into the walls, but nothing big. The bad: - Unexpected schedule change: The plan was for a 1-day, 8 hour move to get us out of the old place and into the new, but upon arrival the foreman, Nelson, informed me that the plan had changed and that they would only pack the truck the first day and the second day we would unpack. I objected but was unable to contact the office to get things worked out (see below). This change required me to call my wife and hold back some of our bags so we would have clothes, toiletries, sleeping bags, food, dishes, etc so we could camp on the floor of our new house that evening. Because the company charged for travel time, it also meant at least an additional hour of unexpected moving expenses (note: I asked to have the additional travel time removed from the final bill and was successful). Finally, I had to take another day of vacation from work to be present for the crew the following day. - Unavailability during the move: When I tried to get in touch with Toni (or someone) at the office during the move, I could not reach anyone and I got no response from the message I left. She explained after the fact that they were upgrading their phone & internet on that day. - Careless packing: Much of the packing I did myself, but what packing the movers did was insecure, insufficient, and unlabelled. Our plants were not secured in any way and many of their pots were broken, spilling dirt onto our things. Multiple pieces of artwork were thrown together and wrapped in a single moving blanket as their only padding, resulting in some canvas damage. Our dresser and sideboard, identified in our estimate as requiring additional care, were both minorly scratched and scuffed. Items on top of furniture were tossed into boxes without cushioning (for example, a heavy stone bookend loosely packed with a fragile jewelry case). Items inside furniture were left there and the furniture was wrapped in cellophane, causing some minor headaches (for example, salt and pepper spilled throughout our wooden sideboard, papers falling out of our printer hutch during the move in, medicine scattered from boxes). - Lack of response: I requested a claims form for the damage, but have yet to receive it 6 weeks later. The Verdict: All in all, I would not use Express Movers again due to the schedule change and the poor packing, but had we done all the packing ourselves and the scheduling issue not occurred, I may have rated them higher. It?s possible to blame the bad parts of this move to a coincidence of inexperienced packers, a misunderstanding about the move schedule, an unfortunately timed systems upgrade, and a claims form lost in the mail, but if that was the case I?d expect to see more effort to ?make it right?, or at least acknowledge that things didn?t go well.

This is a very nice gentleman whom we enjoyed working with, so the poor review is a surprise. He was unsure how much packing was needed so we promised to reserve a second day to avoid long hours and possible overtime rates. See quote from email that confirms this. On day one our crew lead felt the job would exceed 10 hours, (and the crew was exhausted from working several very long, hot, days in a row). For safety and cost our lead opted to complete the move on the second day. We waived all travel and storage charges for day two. See these excerpts from email exchanges with the customer: Aug 13, FROM CUSTOMER, (regarding day 2): “Our agreement was for 8 hours today and finishing up tomorrow if necessary… I'd like to mention that, aside from this surprise, the move has been good, and that Nelson, Stefan, and Ahmed were great.” FROM OUR REPLY Aug 14: “Of course you will not be charged for storage or travel time today.” FROM OUR FOLLOW UP, Aug 17: “…I see there were a few small damaged things and will have a claim form mailed to you within a week to 10 days. Thank you once again, I hope you will enjoy many happy years in your lovely new home. “ And Aug 17 THE CUSTOMER REPLIED: “The house is really shaping up and the move on Friday went very smoothly minus a few scratches and some issues with how items were packed on Thursday. Thanks again, -Tim”

Sometimes things happen that are beyond our control. This move was scheduled after another, which leaves us at the mercy of the first customer and any surprises they may have. This one had more than double the volume of goods they'd disclosed - completely filling our truck and running so late it was impossible to pick up your goods afterward. All we could do was to apologize and offer to reschedule the next day. You opted to cancel instead and your deposit was immediately refunded. You have every reason to be unhappy: though we could not control the situation, we understand that it inconvenienced you, for which we are truly sorry.

On the first move with the appliances, my refrigerator was partially dropped inflicting a dent in the back corner. Because the dent did not effect operation and the location of the dent (the refrigerator slides into a spot where the dent is not seen), it was inconsequential to me. Accidents happen. The driver did let Toni in the office know. Toni called and sent me a claim form which requested such detail that I was pleased I'd decided not to bother with filing a claim. On the second move, more than just accidents occurred. While the movers were clean, kind, and neat, they were less than respectful to our belongings. A Pottery Barn bedroom set purchased less than 8 months prior had multiple scrapes and scratches, a 36" flat screen TV was poked (not noticed until turning on the TV), a door on a curio cabinet tweaked and scratched, the list goes on. In all, there's over a $1,000 in replacement/repair damages that I won't be filing a claim for because the claim form requests receipts of original purchase, date acquired, weight, etc. -- the headache is simply not worth it. Instead, I leave you my experience.

When moving hundreds of heavy items through doorways, up and down stairs, on and off of a truck, it’s not unusual to have an occasional ding. We are surprised to learn there were several on this move, but will be glad to address your claim if you choose to send it. The instructions ask that the form be filled out as completely as possible; receipts are not required for everything, but to address a claim we do need adequate information about the items.

First of all I have to say that Toni was a gem! She calmed my nerves and worked with us. Even adjusted the schedule so that they could accomodate our move. This job took on a life of it's own after my husband's truck broke down the day before the move when we were attempting to haul all the smaller items to the new house. With that said, the move went from a few hours to most of the day. As for the crew, the 3 man team was great! They really were. They arrived a bit later than we anticipated but with my nerves on the edge because of the move in the first place, the time frame could have been quoted one way and I heard something completely different. Austin was the team lead and he was pretty entertaining. For 22 years old, he has done more than I have in 58 years. My only suggestion for him? Know your paperwork! That is all. The other two men were quiet and respectful. Are you anticipating a but at this point? Unfortunately, there is one. For ALL the good the guys did for us that day, two things happened that changed an "A" grade to a "B". Somehow, the headboard for our brand new sleigh bed, though wrapped well we thought, was damaged. It was referred to as "minor" but it really wasn't. Luckily (if that is possible) this damage is not structural but in the decorative strip. However, the crack in the wood is long and fairly deep. The move insurance isn't going to be enough to cover a replacement. :( Also, after the fact we found that our desk was also broken. Not chipped or scratched. Broken. Luckily for us, we have a friend who is a carpenter and he is going to repair both of them for us. My only other concern - call it petty if you must - is how the final payment was processed. There was an error in the addition of the hours and of course, the overall total. The contract was adjusted and I was just billed for the balance. The information came to me via email. While I had already signed the contract, a call would have been nice. We will recommend Express to others and the only thing we will say, is be sure they wrap your furniture twice!

Thanks for the kind words, [Member name removed]. We are very proud of our hardworking crew. It's great to hear that you are pleased with our work and that the job went so well, even though it turned into a much larger move than the original plan. I also really appreciate the "pat on the back" for helping you schedule. It’s always a pleasure to help someone as nice as you. As you discovered, even well wrapped items occasionally sustain damage...no matter how careful we are, the back of a truck is still a rough place to ride. They called before they arrived and arrived on time as agreed. They came in and asked what was to be done and got busy right away wrapping our furniture in blankets secured with tape and shrink wrap and worked very fast and efficiently and found the best way to move it upstairs to their large truck with a lift gate on it. A few items had to be taken to another spot in Seattle and dropped off there then on they went to deliver the rest to Maple Falls and they got there in a very timely manner and unloaded unwrapped and on there way back to Seattle. We were VERY SATISFIED with the service that they gave us!!!

1. Arrived about an hour late at the storage unit. 2. At the property the crew broke a furniture art piece and the legs of a solid cherry ornate armoire 3. Responded after weeks of making multiple calls 4. Sent a check for approx $160 presumably based on the weight rather than the true value which runs into thousands. 5. The armoire is still lying on its back in the master bedroom preventing us from using it.

Though we’d like to be perfect every time, when moving tens of thousands of furniture items per year, an occasional ding is inevitable. Still, the number of damaged items is exceedingly low - about .03% In this case, as the movers struggled to carry an exceptionally large and heavy armoire up several flights of stairs, a leg was broken and a decorative plaster item damaged. This move was near the holidays when we're closed a few extra days; a claim form was mailed within 5 business days. Once the claim was submitted, payment was mailed within 7 business days. The damage coverage was chosen by the client after a description of the three options was provided by email, in a printed consumer guide, verbally, and again on her printed estimate and her move contract. She signed twice for her choice of basic coverage, which pays by weight. Her claim was paid promptly and in accordance with the coverage she chose. Happily, her armoire has been repaired.

They were great. They were really honest and upfront. The two guys that they sent weren't trying to milk us for hours. They had to pack things. The longer they spent, the more money they made. They didn’t do that. I told them I needed them out by this time. They were very trustworthy and honest. The big deal price was $249. It ended up staying right at that price. I told them that they can't go outside that price.

They contacted me via the message center within the two days as specified on Angie's List, requesting that I contact them to schedule my move. The person I spoke with insisted my move would require 3 men to move my furniture and would take approximately 8hrs. I felt this was unreasonable because I only have furniture to be moved and my furniture is not that heavy and definitely would not require a three man crew. I have decided to cancel the Big Deal and request a refund from Angie's List.

We always try to provide realistic quotes. No one likes surprises in their bill so we make sure our customers know what to expect for time and cost. The information provided and many years of experience tell us that moving all the furniture from a three bedroom home, with nearly two hours of travel time, cannot be accomplished by two movers in four hours.

I purchased an Angie's List coupon. 4 hours, 3 movers for $560. Having moved just a few months before, I didn't think it should take much longer than that. Express Move rep explained that they also had to charge me the time to drive from their office in South Seattle in my in Olympia home and back, but she offered to limit the time to 45 minutes each direction, when it can often take much longer, depending on traffic. She estimated about 8 hours total with the crew of 3. Two out of three movers on the crew were very sharp and conscientious. The third person didn't quite seem "with it" and needed to be directed or he'd kind of "drift." He was not as coordinated or careful as the others. Nonetheless, the crew worked hard and steadily, so the total time, including driving was 6.75 hours, and it only took that long because the crew had to take a daybed and put it back together to fit through the door and hallway. I didn't spot any damage to my belongings, and they were all pleasant and hardworking. I was pleased with their work and would recommend them, despite my disappointment in how long the daybed deconstruction and reconstruction took.
Description of Work: Moved my 3-bedroom, 1,000 SF household to a new 1,200 SF house a mile down the road. I had boxed up my belongings, with the exception of some things I moved on my own by car (clothes, framed art, etc.).

While traffic delayed their arrival, they called to let me know. Although the job took longer than planned they got it all done and maintained a wonderful attitude the entire time. Since they had to make two trips, they even took a washer and dryer from the new house back to the old condo. So helpful!

These guys were great! Asked a lot of questions, made sure our questions were answered. moved everything in two trips. Came in under estimate! Could not have asked for better service. Would use them again in a minute! Thanks.
Description of Work: Showed up on time - loaded the truck and unloaded at our new home. When out of their way to wrap and tape things that I would have thought were ok as is.
