Our furnace went out right before Thanksgiving, on one of the first cold days of the year. Evergreen was able to get someone out that day (whereas most other companies couldn't make it out until the next day). They were able to fix the problem so we had heat back, however they misdiagnosed the underlying reason. About a week later, our heat was out again. they were back that day and fixed the problem, without charging us again.

Came home to a cold house on a Thursday night and wasn't able to be home during the day on Friday. Scheduled an after-hours appointment for Friday night. Service guy was prompt and professional. The cost of the replacement part seemed high and I had to pay the after-hours rate but was otherwise happy with the service call. He figured out why the furnace was malfunctioning, had the necessary part in his vehicle, replaced the part, tested it and cleaned/serviced the furnace.

I selected four bidders, mainly relying on Angie's List for the selection. All bidders provided quotations. Evergreen's was the most comprehensive and fit most closely with my goals. Two of the four bidders, for example, felt that my electrical service panel needed to be replaced, adding several thousand dollars to the cost. John Mott performed a full inspection of the existing ducting, the old furnace, the electrical panel, and measured the entire house for heat-loss calculations. We discussed my desires and expectations in detail. Only minor changes to the existing ducting were needed. His bid included three system options, with comprehensive comparative data for each against the existing oil furnace. He assured me that the electrical service was sufficient for the new additions. Because of the electrical panel issue, those two bids were considerably higher than Evergreen. The remaining bidder was close to the Evergreen bid in price, but I chose Evergreen based on the quality and thoroughness of the bid package. I needed to remove the existing oil tank prior to the installation, and John coordinated the scheduling to begin on August 1st, immediately after the tank removal. The work was accomplished on schedule over three days finishing on August 3rd, 2011. Everything was accomplished in a workmanlike manner with full cleanup afterwards. I was quite satisfied with the job. To date we have used only the cooling side of the system, but on the few hot days we have had, the comfort inside the house was refreshing. I will update this rating to cover the heating later in the year.

We worked with John, in sales, who was very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. He was able to talk logistics and planning and was able to recommend someone to decommission our oil tank and to clean our existing duct work. He created a check list of all the products we were buying, plus all the additional services we requested. When the team showed up, they were very professional, and worked well and efficiently. After the system was installed, we needed to have it pressure tested, which Evergreen was supposed to call me to schedule. It took over two weeks for that call to come in. I did get an apology for the delay; I was told my paperwork got misplace or I had "fallen off the radar." A new group of guys came out to pressure test, and they saw that I had substantial leaks in my system. The fellow conducting the test said, "Well, what you need to do now is hire us to come in an seal all the ductwork." Hmmmm.... I explained that I didn't feel like I needed to hire them to seal the ductwork when they had just installed much of it. I got John back on the phone later that day, and he admitted it was a mistake; the ductwork would be sealed as part of the contract. Another fellow came out to seal the ductwork, the pressure testers came back and we passed. Nearly a month went by and we were contacted by John again about paying our invoice. We hadn't, at that time, received an invoice yet, nor had the ductwork been insulated. Also, our external thermometer had not been installed properly. I had to show John the checklist he had created for us to where it was indicated that we contracted for insulation and the installation of the thermometer. Another week went by, and finally the scheduling department called to have someone come by to the do insulation. He completed that work in 2 1/2 days (it was a lot of work, but they sent only one person to do it), as well as fixing the thermometer. At that point, he presented me with an invoice, which I happily paid. Every person we worked with at Evergreen was knowledgeable, friendly and professional. Our problem was the inconsistency and poor communication. If they can solve those problems, this will be an excellent company to work with.

Pleased with treatment and service.
Description of Work: Troubleshooting on why furnace was not working. Build up in sensor, performed cleaning and informed me on how to do so in the future. This was the second occurrence, so was happy with the follow up and provided a discount on the second occurrence. Only drawback was I wish I had gotten a clearer understanding on the issue the first time. Professional appointment set up and squeezed us into their schedule, as the issue was unexpected.

Our 16 year old heat pump quit on the coldest night of 2010. I called Evergreen based on their customer reviews in Angies List. A technician came out within 72 hours, diagnosed the problem after 6 pm and ordered the part. Shortly thereafter another technician, Aaron, came out, looked at the system and advised me that the part ordered was not the cause of the problem, there would be no charge and we discussed the wisdom of trying to repair the existing system as opposed to replacing it. Given the life cycle of the defunct system, the cost to repair and the cost to operate, I elected to replace the defunct electric system with a gas furnace. The technician advised me that the existing system would operate off its heat strips, albeit at an increased cost. John Mott, salesman and planner came to the house in late December, discussed the options available, spoke of the advantages and disadvantages of gas v electric for both the HVAC and a new hot water tank. I was going to go with gas as it is much cheaper to operate, so long as the hardware was not substantially more expensive. I had also asked John if Evergreen installed bath fans as I needed to replace one and with the advancements in technology considering replacing all 4 bath fans and a utility fan I have for audio/video equipment. John indicated they would, but suggested it would be smarter for me to order the fan as I would likely get a better price. After more questions were answered, a final proposal was agreed upon and date for installation arrived at based on the gas line install date that PSE had provided. John was very helpful in walking me through the process of what I needed to do to get the gas line, including the 'friendly' phone call to make sure when the install would take place. PSE has set a 'drop dead' date for the gas line install and Evergreen had scheduled the installation around that time. I was to call and confirm the installation date with Reid the scheduler. The date came and went with nary a phone call from PSE explaining why the installation had taken place. Per John's advice, I had called PSE several times the week before to find out when the installation was to take place. I emailed John and told him about the PSE issue. He made a couple of phone calls and what was to be a 3 week delay became a 4 day extension. The gas meter was set on a Friday. Monday morning Brent, Ryan and Geoff arrived to begin to dismantle the existing HVAC and water tank as well as do the fan installations. All members of Evergreen's crew were polite, professional, courteous and thoughtful in their work. John came by towards the end of the 2nd day to make sure all was going per plan and to answer any questions that I might have. Brent provided information needed to complete the auxiliary gas line installations and was very patient in showing me what needed to be done to hook up the gas line for the outdoor bar b que. Towards the end of the installation, I mentioned to Brent that we were considering installing a gas cook top, the install fee and he indicated that they could do the install and gas connect as well as any electrical and duct work necessary to complete the job. There was an issue with the hot water heater that Aaron diagnosed as am improperly calibrated gas meter. PSE was out very quickly, made the necessary adjustment and brought the water heater up to necessary spec for operation. Aaron came out and checked the water heater and indeed it was operating where it needed to be. We did purchase a gas cooktop and Brent, Ryan and Geoff did the installation. Just as the experience with the HVAC, all 3 were responsive, professional and courteous in completing their work. All of the people at Evergreen provided a customer experience that exceeded expectations. I did not get competitive bids as I was quite comfortable with the information John gave me, his knowledge of his product and the Angie list reviews. HVAC for the non HVAC person is a world unto itself. Discovering someone who provided straight answers, is willing to work with you and is prompt in their customer service makes any cost differential a wise investment. Thank you all Evergreen crew and staff. I can not recommend you highly enough.
Description of Work: Analyzed and proposed replacement of HVAC system, water tank and gas lines to be used in the future. Expedited installation of gas line when PSE failed to comply with install schedule, installed HVAC, water tank and additional lines. Installed and tested replacement fans for bathrooms and media room. Installed gas cook top, did gas connect and performed necessary modifications to downdraft vent and electrical required for cook top.

I was a first time user to Angie's list and logged on and found a company in my community that would come on a Sunday to look at my dead natural gas furnace. I also wanted a company that had a good rating. I chose Evergreen. They were out in about an hour. The cost to repair was too high compared to installing a new furnace and we felt that the original furnace wasn't quite big enough so why not go with an upgrade? They scheudled an installation for the following Thursday and lent me two space heaters. I met with the business manager to select my furnace. I selected on several criteria including the following: I would get a PSE rebate and I would get a tax credit or rebate from the federal government--I can't remember which. Installation went well (except that when they moved some golf clubs in the basement, they knocked over a $70 glass yard ornament but failed to mention it to me.) and they asked that I pay the full bill and get the two rebates on my own. I paid in full. A couple of months later, I turned in my PSE rebate and they declined it. PSE said that I needed to ask for the rebate within 30 days of installation. There was nothing on the document that said that nor did Evergreen indicate that to me. I talked to PSE and they said sorry, Evergreen is using a very old form and they would not honor the rebate. We just had our taxes done this week and we were told that we were ineligible for the tax credit or rebate from the federal government. Needless to say, I am unhappy with the slopiness of Evergreen in promising me something that I wasn't qualified to receive. I called Evergreen about PSE and they are looking into it--just found out about the federal income tax denial and haven't called them yet but doubt that there will be a satisfactory conclusion. The furnace is fine but I wound up paying more than they told me I would and I have a broken glass lawn ornament. Oh, yeah, and they never came to retrieve their two $20 space heaters so I guess I did get a freebie out of the deal. I recommend that Evergreen pay closer attention to what they are telling customers. I am disappointed.
Description of Work: My natural gas furnace ceased to work on a Sunday. I went on Angies list to find a service that would come out on a Sunday and ultimately fix or install a new furnace. The cost to repair was too high compared with getting another furnace so I chose to install a new furnace.

The representative came to the house at the appointed time and quickly and clearly explained a couple different options and gave bids a few days later. I had not dreamed that putting in a furnace and ducting into this old house would be worth the cost, but when I saw Evergreen's quote for this option, I thought it was very reasonable and I went for it. The work had to wait a few weeks as it was the height of the fall season for heat installation, but they were able to start a couple days earlier than originally planned. My renters have been very happy with the system -- no complaints.

Not at all what I expected from their ratings on Angie's List. They also gave me an estimate for insulating the furnace plenum chamber, a very simple and small job--$300, totally unreasonable given that the tech was already on location. I would not use them again and am surprised and somewhat disappointed at their high ratings on Angie's List.
Description of Work: Had two service calls (12/23/2010 and 1/3/2011) but should have only been one. They were supposedly not able to complete what was needed on the first call, because they were pupportedly too busy and therefore has me pay for another service call--both calls the service rep was very late.

They were great. They were the lowest bid of three. I had bids as high as $4,500. They were great. They gave me all the information over the phone unlike another company. It was over the Thanksgiving weekend and they were able to accommodate me on the day after Thanksgiving. Not only were they able to accommodate me and the service guy was wonderful, they responded in a cold snap over a holiday. The installation was perfect and he actually did a little extra work to readapt things. There were one small piece of ductwork and they could have charged extra but they didn't. The cleanup was fine. They were five stars. They are probably the only company I will use.

Excellent service and professionalism. My old furnace died, they offered quality equipment at a competitive price, and found some problems with my existing cool air vents that no other bidding company found. They did not charge for finding this problem or in offering simple solutions that I could take care of. Because I was without heat they prioritized my install. They ran into some unforeseen problems, but solved them without delay and at their expense.

Shortly after the installation a problem occurred with the heat pump's circuit board. The technicians at Evergreen got right on the problem. It turned out to be a program error in the manufactures product. It took some time for the manufacture to correct the program error. During that time Evergreen technicians did a work around that used more energy than when the unit functions as designed. Evergreen made a claim against the manufacture for the increased cost in heating our house which the manufacture paid. The system has been running perfectly ever since and the house is much cleaner and more comfortable. Good Job Evergreen.

The whole project went extremely well from bid to installation completion and tune-up follow up calls. They came up with a creative plan, gave us a reasonable price and a guarantee that gave us confidence they would stand behind their plan, their product and their work. They removed all the exisitng equipmemt taking great care to protect our floors and walls. They then had specialists in to do the actual different types of installation work. The project manager was in regular communication with the crew and worked with them to solve challenges that were encountered in this new installation. They left the work site clean each day and always wore booties over their shoes. They provided a work schedule, arrived when expected or called to explain a delay. From start to finish they were responsive to our questions and suggestions, professional and competent. They asisted with paperwork necessary for rebates and tax credit. The tankless water heater is working like a charm. The circulating fan capacity of the air handler is a great benefit. We haven't had need for heat yet so are waiting to see if it is as efficient and consistent as anticipated.
Description of Work: Installed a Rinnai tankless water heater and hydrponic air handler. We live in a condominium and have a utility room that contained a 50 gallon water tank, a furnace and a compact washer/dryer unit. There was much wasted space, the equipment was dated and inefficient. We wanted to gain more floor space to create more of a laundry room, increase hot water capacity and make room for a larger stacking washer/dryer and other equipment that were more efficient and met rebate and tax creditcriteria. We had several companies come out to look at the project. Only Evergreen went the extra mile to "think ouside the box" and see how they could meet our needs given many restrictions and challenges.

They came to my house two days after I called to schedule the appointment. The Tech who came was friendly and professional. He put on booties before entering my home, every time! My heat pump did need a good cleaning/maintenance, in addition to that he put in a new "hard start". I don't know what that is but it fixed the problem. The Tech did a good job cleaning up after he was done and took the time to explain what he had done and explained the pricing to me as well. He was very knowledgeable and was happy to answer some other questions I had about my thermostat. I thought the price was fair. I would definitely use this company again or recommend them to a friend.
Description of Work: My heat pump was making a loud noise when it would start up. I needed someone to diagnose & repair the problem. I called several companies for estimates. It was hard to get a real estimate with the description I was giving them over the phone. It would be so much to clean coils/maintenance and this much to do a diagnosis. I choose to use Evergreen Refrigeration AKA Evergreen Home Heating and Energy because my Sister had used them to install her furnace and was happy with them.

My house had an old oil furnace and it has been getting expensive to heat the house with it, plus I wanted air conditioning for the summer so I called around to a few different companies for estimates. The other companies confused me on the type of equipment they would use. They were not able to explain things to me in every-day language. The salesman at Evergreen Refrigeration took the time to teach me the difference between gas heat and heat pumps, and helped me to decide what type of equipment I wanted for my house. I am very happy about my decision to get a gas furnace with a heat pump. It took Evergreen Refrigeration two days to complete this job. They cleaned up their mess daily and explained what they were doing throughout the job. Their employees were friendly and very respectful of my house. I was a little confused about how to use my thermostat after the job was completed, but I called my salesman and he came back out to show me how to use it. I used my air conditioning for the first time last week and I loved it. We may not have too many "hot" days in Seattle, but I know I will be comfortable year round with my new system.
