I sent the following to the CEO of Empire Today. I also left this same review on Yelp. Please read to the end and contact me if you want to speak in person. I wish this had a choice for negative numbers. This has to be the most worthless bunch of POS I've ever ran across. The sales rep came out, all nice and friendly and chatty and measured the house. in the course of the conversation he stated he needed to add a $695.00 charge for self-leveling concrete. "We have to add it in now, because if the installer comes out and finds that the floor is uneven and has to use we don't want to come back and say we need this extra money. We put it in now, up front and then if they don't need it, great. You just call the customer service center and we'll refund it." so with all that done, the contract was for 7210.05 I signed it and they came out to do the floor 2 weeks later. I was here when the installer arrived. I had removed the carpet and padding and had the floor cleaned/ swept. I asked him about the self-leveling concrete because the floor is sort of uneven. He said that "with this subfloor he couldn't use self-leveling concrete because the subfloor was particle board and if he put it on it, it would absorb the water and puff up and destroy the floor." I called empire and asked for an itemized breakdown sent to me. They sent it via email as I asked. Unfortunately it's not itemized. So I'm calling Empire and talking to a Customer service agent and I tell her what's happening and I'm just calling to get the refund for the self-leveling concrete that they didn't have to use She said she'd have to speak with her supervisor Karen. Karen called later and left a VM saying, "Mr Gentry, in regards to being refunded the amount.... at the time of installation you did sign the paperwork that everything was done to your satisfaction. So no refund is due....." I called back again and talked with a CS agent and told her I was returning Karen’s call. Please hold a moment while I try to reach her. A few moments later the CS agent comes back and informs that Karen didn't answer but the CS agent left a message and Karen would call back. I was on my cell phone with my DR. and my home phone rang. I can see it's Empire. Before I could hang up and answer the other, Empire hung up. I checked VM and heard the Customer Service supervisor (Karen) left a message stating that she had talked to the sales rep and he said I must have misunderstood him. This was a charge in case they need to REPLACE the subfloor. I was in the room when the sales rep said this is for self-leveling concrete. My wife heard it. I heard it. Now Empire is pulling this? As far as I'm concerned this place isn't any better than buying a used car from some shady dude on a street corner. I will NEVER use this place again. I will go out of my way to make sure that no one I know will ever use company. When I get done with this comment, this is being copied and I'll send it to the CEO of Empire. And what makes me the most ******. I invited this guy in to OUR home. I offered him drinks and food and conversation and all the time he's standing in my house and lying to me. IT. WAS. AWFUL. We ordered both carpet and vinyl at the same time to be installed one right after the other over several days. The departments don't talk to each other so the installation was a disaster. The vinyl had to be postponed not once but twice, all while we missed work to sit and wait for them. THEN they damaged our bath tub. After sending pictures of the damage and a quote to have it repaired, I have received no response at all even after numerous phone calls and voicemails. They will never answer their phones, no matter who you call. You can find better product, service and price elsewhere easily.

They missed insulation date twice. The day of the installation, they call me that the carpet I order is not enough in stock. A week latter (the second time) installer is not available. The finally insulation day they did not bring wrong class padding (unser the carpet) I ordered. Everything go wrong and worst experience I ever had.

initial sales/ estimate went fine. Tony was great, personable. we initially ordered two bedrooms for carpet and told Tony we'll call him about the third. Next day we left him a message that we decided to get the 3rd carpeted at the same time but he never got a call back to confirm. We called Empire store to confirm and they said great, no problem. We called the morning of the install to get an estimated time frame. We were told the installer would call us for a time but never did. They just arrived without calling at 12:30. The installers only had us down for 2 bedrooms. Said they could come back another time to install all 3 but we had cleared out all the bedrooms out and had boxes of stuff laying around the house. We didnt want to have our stuff in boxes waiting for them to come back. So we told them to do the 2 smaller bedrooms. We were told we have to call in a payment to the store before they start. OK, odd, but we call and give them info off the check and they begin. After installing 1 bedroom, AT 2:30 they said they were leaving for lunch and run an errand then be back in two hours. They left tools on the floor, tack strips on the bathroom floor and carpet/padding in the hallway. Also left the old carpet and padding in the front lawn and driveway. 2 hours later we call since they had not returned. we were told "be there in an hour and would take 30 minutes to install" We called at 5:30 we were told "on our way be there in a few." 6:30 still not here. Called them again, was told "we'll be there soon" I told them we have to leave as we had an appointment at 7 pm. Could they come back tomorrow? They were talking Spanish back and forth for a couple minutes, not acknowledging my questions. i told them not to come back. I call Empire " customer service" tell them what happened, not much help either. He calls the installer but he didnt answer his phone. i had just talked to him 5 minutes prior. i asked could you send someone new out tomorrow to finish the install Because i dont want the same guys coming back. "No, it would be two weeks" He said someone will call me tomorrow. I told him if no one can come out the next day to finish to cancel my order. I said to have someone call because im stopping payment on the check and we can work something out on the one bedroom that they installed. i stopped payment on the check and waiting to hear from them. We got home around 8:30 pm and the carpet and padding were still in the yard. Now i have to gather the old carpet from the lawn and hallway, tack strips and tools put them in my garage. then take them to the dump myself I checked another rating site and 90% of the reviews were 1 or 2 stars. i wish i had checked these sites prior to calling. In all fairness, the one bedroom does look good. But their customer service is awful. I'm not sure how they vet their installers but they need to do some due diligence on them because they make Empire look awful. Pics are how they left their stuff then didnt return

Terrible 1- Today is the 4th installation appointment Empire missed. Every time they did that I had to take a day off from work :( you can imagine how this affected my job and I still don't have the carpet. 2- They came once and they've put in wood rods with nails coming out (to hold the padding). Since they still haven't done the installation for the padding yet, the nails are still sticking out and it is a complete safety hazard. I have a baby nephew and I am totally worried that he will crawl onto one of those nails. 3- The appointment timeslot they give are terrible. They tell give you a full day timeslot and you get booked all day. On all 4 appointments that were cancelled, I asked them to narrow down this timeslot and it never happened.

They damaged our molding around the floor. They wanted to put in this plastic trim that looked awful. They said they could not guarantee that they could reinstall it correctly. I had to have them come back three times to fix things. The strip that separates the carpet and flooring kept coming up. WE had a leak, so the money we used was from our homeowners insurance. We were beside ourselves, we had never seen such incompetence. They weren't a low ball estimate. The floor is in, it is functional to an extent but the service was just horrible.

Overall, that was pretty expensive. I'd use them again, but I'd be a lot more careful with the tile I purchase. The workers that I came in contact with were great. This is a fairly complicated job. They had to match up multiple levels of the floor. Some of the underlayment was warped or curved, they had to make a great change to make it flat. So, overall their quality of work was very good. They were very conscientious to do a good job.

The installers did not have the right tools to remove the water hoses on the washer (basic tools) and then after being there for 10 hours for the install they told us they couldn't do it. Called the sales guy who said they would do it with the rest of the flooring on the next install date for flooring ( that Saturday). The flooring guy arrived that Saturday and didn't know anything about the install in the laundry area (complete communication breakdown) and didn't have enough material and wouldn't install the vinyl either. Called Customer service and they want extra money to do the install that should have happened in the first place. Do not use Empire ever !! worst experience and I still do not have this resolved.
Description of Work: Had empire install carpet and vinyl in all areas except master bathroom. Installer were on time and installed carpets and vinyl in bathroom as expected. However they were expected in install vinyl in the laundry area (closet) .

It was all done within a day, so about 6 hours. It was much less expensive bid than the Costco carpeting I had priced. The carpeting itself was softer and it’s exactly what they promised. It is pet stain resistance and very comfortable.

First of all I thought that there was absolutely no way that they were going to be able to remove all of the existing carpet and install new carpet in our new home in one day. They came out first and measured and it was 3,400 square feet of carpet! On install day a crew of 5 guys showed up at 8:00am. They worked so hard! They stayed until 7:30pm and finished everything. They cleaned up after themselves, vacuumed the entire house, and hauled all of the old carpet away for free! They did an amazing job, we were very happy! This was the second time we used Empire and we will use them for any Carpet needs we have in the future!

The company was unable to match a line of carpet and wood products we had already picked out through another outlet. Instead, the salesman tried to sell us inferior products that fit their specials. The three hour meeting ended with the salesperson telling us to call back if we wanted to talk further. Needless to say, we felt our time was wasted and we found another company that meet our needs. On a side note, the company never called us back so we were left with the impression that if you don't buy on the first visit then your business is not worth the effort. We initially called because we felt they offered a deal that was compelling. Not really when you look at the details. I will not recommend this company to our friends.

They were very good. They came when they said and stayed really late and got it all done. They did a good job. So I liked Empire. They did a quality job. They got here when they said they would. They stayed here till the job was complete. We had a lot furniture that they had to move around and do the installation. They moved the furniture without really any complaints. They hadn't been told when they got here. But they just kind of did it. That was good. It was a competitive bid and they matched to all those prices I could find. When I did talk to them about matching the price they got back to me the next day. They came when they said. I actually had to adjust it back a little bit to suit my needs and they were accommodating. They came here at like 8 in the morning and stayed till almost 9 at night.

Workmanship of the team of guys that showed up was good. What I'm not happy about was that the woman, her name was Kelly, who sold us the carpet and installation told us that the workmen doing the installation would be employed by Empire and not contractors. She made an emphasis of telling us that so that we would feel more assured of the workmanship. That was not the case. Although the workmanship of the crew was good (little unhappy about a couple of squeaky sub-floor spots that I thought they should have taken care of), she should not have told us that the workmen would be employed by Empire. Another thing that I'm unhappy about was that she told us it would take 4-days to complete the installation. The crew that came, consisting of 4 men - 3 of which were mechanics, completed the entire job in a single day. The salesperson's estimate gave me and my wife a false sense of the amount of labor that it would take to complete the job and therefore the cost. I think I got burned a little on the price. I also tried reaching her at one point and got no reply from her.

It was a bad experience. Scheduling was difficult. They lost our data. They changed sales rep on us mid stream. The flooring install took a lot longer than they said it would. The hardwood floors weren't installed correctly and even after 3 or 4 visits to remedy the hardwood floors they're still not installed correctly.

Salesman showed up on time and gave us many examples to look at. We let him know exactly what our situation is (looking to sell the home soon and wanted new carpeting for front area of the home). We didn't need especially soft or high carpet as this isn't an area where people do more than just pass through. It did need to look nice and endure high traffic. The sales man took measurements and suggested several types of carpeting and pads. We picked one based on his recommendations for the space and it was installed two days later. After installing the carpet WE ARE NOT ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR TO OUR HOME as the carpet and pad combination is too high for the door to clear. Apparently Empire DOES NOT measure for this, warn customers about this, or fix this. I would expect people who call themselves flooring experts to be ensuring that customers know what issues would arise with each of their products. Now we have to pay another service to adjust the door and spend even more time & money on a home we don't intend to live in. Completely frustrating experience, I would never use them again or recommend them to anyone.
