The Electric Company of Seattle worked by phone with our out-of-state tub company when 3 other plumbing companies would merely submit a bid for our troubleshoot and repair job. Both the water jet and air jet systems of our indoor spa were dysfunctional. The spa required 2 new electric circuits and re-positioning of the air/water manifolds within an extremely cramped space. The task was done in less than a half day. Clean and with good attitude. These people, Owner Stephen and technician Mike, were professional and cared about us. We recommend them highly!

Communication to set up a time for light work (~1-2hrs) was poor. He would propose some days, we gave him times we could be at home -- this happened a couple times over 2 weeks with no response, or an email in the middle of the night (e.g., 12:30am) for an appt. the next day (which wasn't feasible). We finally had a time set up for today in the morning around 9am. My husband stayed form work all morning and no one showed up or called, or returned his calls. Overall, his quoted hourly rates were high-average and we can't speak to the quality of the work. We would never attempt to set up service with this company again.
Description of Work: Provider was scheduled to replace a light switch and clean panel. Also to provide bid on future re-wire. Provider was difficult to communicate with and never showed up for appointment.

Two workers showed up for the job. I'll call them Mr. B and Mr. Z. Mr. B charges $195 for the first hour and then $100/hr after that. Mr Z rate is $60/hour. I already planned how the wire should go, which wall, where to drill into the crawlspace, etc. But they still managed to surprise me by routing a portion of the wire outside the wall instead of fishing it from within. Also I wanted them to put a GFCI breaker in the panel, which is required for crawlspace circuit. But Mr. B said the breaker GFCI is not as good as an outlet GFCI. Then he added a GFCI outlet below the panel and the crawlspace circuit is downstream of this outlet. I don't mind this setup, however, I've asked around and search the web and nowhere does anyone say the outlet GCFI is better than a breaker GFCI. I wonder if maybe they ran out of breaker GFCI. They didn't mention anything about permit. When I later tried to get a permit from the city hall, they told me this company did not register to do business in Redmond. So, I had to apply for the permit as if I installed the circuit myself. The inspection passed. If I hire this company again, I would have to insist on how things are to be done.
Description of Work: Add a new circuit and outlets to the crawlspace (to power fan, dehumidifier, etc).

I got 5 bids for this job and The Electric Company of Seattle gave us the best price. They came right on time, finished the work on time, and were professional, respectful, and attentive to details. Very pleasant to work with, knowledgeable, lots of experience. We live in North Seattle and were pleased to find such good electricians right in our neighborhood. They saved us well over $2000. I highly recommend this company. 5633

The work covered here actually was done at three different times over several months. That timing was our choice. Stephen Brandeis, the manager, is quite knowledable about lighting and his advice helped immensely. Stephen is an interesting person. As far as one can tell, he rarely sleeps, and works all the time. He also truly works to save his customers expense - hence, the rebuilt fans. Mike, the electrician who actually did the work, is a great guy and is both diligent and careful. We had one structural problem in the one bathroom, and it was Mike who came up with an innovative solution to the problem. If I need any electrical work done in the future, The Electric Company of Seattle will get my call.
Description of Work: We had 13 or 14 light fixtures replaced, four new light fixtures and several sets of new outlets installed, a chandelier moved, some GFCI outlets substituted for existing outlets, several exterior outlets brought up to code with GFI outlets and bubble covers. In addition, two bathroom fans that we thought would have to be replaced were, instead, rebuilt. The work is clean and neat and everything works just fine.

I have no motivation and I gain Nothing from being anything short of frank and hones on the A-List. I only post MY EXPERIENCE. No Less. No More. ******************* Reply to Owner 3/12/12: Of course it makes sense! I'd definitely leave someone I'm interviewing that a) I've never met before, b) previously stood me up, c) arrived late to the appointment, d) that seemed to busy to pay attention to give me his sole attention during the initial screening phone call alone in my house with my checkbooks, wallet, jewelry and other valuables while I stroll around the block and go walk my dog. Right? Makes sense to you too? I think not. All 3 times were not enjoyable encounters for me. Three strikes, you're out. Quite frankly, if the customer service isn't there, how can I trust that I will be heard when the job is in motion? Due to this, Electric Company was Fired before they were Hired. - And YES, Steve did say and quot; You get what you pay forand quot;. Perhaps he was too busy taking other phone calls while he was on the phone with me to remember. Owning a cell phone, I know that a call can be on 'hold' while others are taken. However, the number I called wasn't a cell phone where you click over. It was a land line with no ability to be placed on 'hold' where I could hear other calls coming in and the conversations within and where I could hear his frustration to the people on the other end of those lines. It was interesting. Like I said, just because someone is thorny/rough around the edges doesn't mean they don't do good work so that's why I decided to move ahead and interview in person. However, being stood up once and then fashionably late the next didn't bode well for a working relationship. Sorry Electric Company of Seattle. I'm here to post my experience(s). No less. No more. Good luck to you. (*Original Post): Good reviews so I called. When I spoke to Steven, he answered different phone calls twice on a different phone so, I could hear the entire conversation. He was annoyed that I was asking very specific questions about price range over the phone so that we'd both save one another time and effort. He went on a mini-rant about 'you get what you pay for' etc. Okay, okay. So, some people are like that and that doesn't mean that he doesn't do good work so I decided to interview him in person anyway. At our set appointment, Steven was quite late so I called him and told him not to come. We rescheduled. He was late again! After he left, I noticed that Steven had put a magnet advertising his company on my refrigerator. Minute but he could have at least asked before he saw fit to decorate my home w/his company's logo. Thanks but no thanks. I decided to go with In-House ElecCo. They were good to me. Best of luck to you and your search for a good electrical contractor!!

Response from Electric Company of Seattle
I find this review very disturbing. Not because it is a bad review, all good businesses get occasional bad reviews. I don’t get the member's motivation to write half-truths and make up quotes. The member received a valuable free service from me that takes about 2 hours of work to produce. The rewiring estimate was fast, free, very detailed, and accurate and helped her establish fair pricing for her job and choose an electrician. When I first spoke with the member she immediately complained about a quote she got from another electrician. She thought the price was outrageous. The member seems quite angry. I reassured her that I could provide her with a free competitive quote that would be lower. Our party line is “competitive” I don’t use the phrase you get what you pay for it- is vague and misleading. Regarding the magnet business card, the member was walking her dog while I finished the estimate notes and I left my card for her to find exactly as she described when I left her house :) Stephen Brandeis Operations Manager The Electric Company of Seattle

The Electric Company has been great for us. They understand the vagaries of older homes and are able to resolve problems for very reasonable cost. They are in high demand and come out immediately to homes where electrical problems are a threat to health and safety. When we have those sorts of problems they have been prompt and have even come out after hours (working until 8 pm) to solve the problem. When we have electrical work that is non-life-threatening, it can take a little more coordination with them in the run-up to having them come to do the work. But, I don't mind as they are thorough and competent. When someone besides Steve has done the work, he typically comes out to check it and get feedback from us about the work. They always get the job done and I always know that it is done to code. I will always call them for work on our house.
Description of Work: We have used Steve and his crew to fix/update the wiring in our older home over the last several years. They have updated the electrical box, installed a subpanel in the garage, installed wiring for new light fixtures in the bathroom, living and bedrooms, did troubleshooting for a non-functioning heater, installed a new bathroom fan and heater, and made an emergency visit to fix a wiring problem that left one entire half of the house without electricity (caused by a different electrician).

Stephen was responsive when we contacted him and showed up when scheduled for the estimate. He spent A LOT of time looking over the site to get accurate information for his estimate. Apparently he sent the email estimate 2 days later, but it must have gone to my junk mail. He sent a second email the same day asking for confirmation of receipt. (A few days ago (Aug 22) he sent me copies of the email he sent to verify that he did actually send the estimate.) I was never able to confirm receipt since I never saw the emails, unfortunately, but I never heard from him again.
Description of Work: We needed an estimate to install electrical for a new hot tub and an outlet for an outdoor fridge. We only asked for the estimate. We didn't end up hiring him for the actual work.

Last weekend the laundry room power went out after one of the junctions melted down. After getting that repaired we decided to go ahead and re-wire the dining and living rooms. We were given an estimate and they started immediately. Unfortunately for them, our house has many obstacles to work around--a half finished basement, many awkward angles, and a cob web of previous re-wiring attempts. A few days and patch jobs later we are up and running. Room by room we are getting this old house under control and the Electric Company will be our choice for every step.

They reconnected and checked all the wiring in one section of the house and made sure everything was working fine. I don't remember how much we paid for the services. The work was fine. I am happy with the services and if we have other stuff, we would call them back. They explained what they were doing. They were covering all the bases and everything was done well. It is hard to rate them on price as I don't remember. My overall experience was good and I will be using them again in the future.

The work has always gone very well and it's a pleasure to recommend ElCoSe. In addition to the excellent work (which of course is the most important thing), I especially like three things: 1. Stephen checks his e-mail regularly and so is easy to contact, 7 days/week. 2. ElCoSe charges by the job, not by the hour, so you know your cost going in and they take the time to do the job right. 3. Stephen also takes the time to explain and answer your questions; I appreciate this. The charges are fair, the service is prompt and professional -- who could ask for more?
Description of Work: I've had the Electric Company of Seattle out to my house (and home office) four or five times. They've installed a hot tub's wiring, lighting, a new circuit to my office, new wiring in the garage (to power the door openers), fixed some mistakes in my house wiring, etc.

We were getting new windows installed, when it was discovered that we'd have to move some wiring. The Electric Company was able to come out almost immediately, and they did a great job very quickly. We were able to continue with the window install. Also, the technician found a clever way to do the wire-move without having to cut a new hole in the wall; at first, he thought he'd had no options, but then he got creative and figured out an alternative, even though we hadn't required him to do so.

Overall the experience was good. The owner, Stephen, knows his stuff, and his guys are easy to work with. His pricing seems little higher than others, but I am confident in their work and there were no price surprises. Early in the process, Stephen wanted a partial payment at the start (ok by me), but called late at night asking for a check before he had even sent an invoice or statement of work. It was unprofessional, but that being said, I think Stephen had had a terrible week that week. After telling Stephen I did not appreciate his call, he was far more accommodating going forward, very polite, and professional. After the job was finished by his guys, Stephen called to follow up. I told him one of the breakers was incorrect, and Stephen himself came over within an hour to fix the issue. In the end, I was happy with their work.
Description of Work: The company installed wiring for a complete basement remodel, installed a new breaker box, and updated the wiring for the ground floor of our house. They also sourced and installed recessed lighting, fixtures, switches, and outlets in the basement. They worked with the city to obtain the correct permits and managed the inspection process. Pricing was a flat rate per item (e.g. $120/recessed light) that included labor, wiring, and any needed hardware.
