It was great. I would highly recommend them. Price was very comparable and cheaper than some. He was great.

In both cases, the work Earthworx performed was excellent. We interviewed four companies and hired Ron, which turned out to be the right decision. He came up with the best solutions within our budget, and the work was completed in a timely and professional manner. Ron is now the go-to guy for our neighborhood, and I personally recommend him as well.
Description of Work: Earthworx performed two jobs - one for the neighborhood, hired by the HOA to excavate a swale to solve a drainage problem, and the second was at my home, excavating a portion of our yard and also building a raised planter section off our patio.

The experience was okay. He is a very straightforward guy and I think we didn't use him because his cost was a lot higher. You need to really know what you want because he has a certain way of doing things and he is maybe less flexible.
Description of Work: Earthworx came out for an estimate.

Response from EARTHWORX ASSOCIATES LLC
This report should not be placed within Angie's List. My firm never did any business with this individual. I spent several hours with this person as he did not know what he wanted nor how to complete his conceptual plan. I provided economical suggestions and basic pricing structures during this initial visit and informed him I was out of town the next day for a week and that I would follow up asap upon my return. I in fact did do as stated along with a follow up phone call to confirm receipt and if I could address any questions. Three additional revisions and requests for more details were submitted. I responded to all. I was asked if I could start the work within the next 2-3 days and I indicated I could meet that schedule as he was very anxious to have this project completed asap. I never heard from this person again. Within several weeks I noticed work still had not been completed. This project should have been addressed with a formal plan with an understanding of budgets. I feel like this individual used my time, expertise, and continuous estimate revisions to work against other contractors that may or may not have been properly licensed, bonded and insured. His report is not an accurate representation of the actual facts nor does it portray the 10-12 hours of estimating and hand holding for this potential client. I fully understand that this is the nature of contracting, building relationships, and the costs of doing business, but to then have this individual use this forum to admonish my name and reputation is a gross mis-use of what Angie's list is set up to provide. This individual, if a reasonable and thoughtful person, and like so may of my 100's of potential clients in the past have done, would have contacted me and thank me for my time, however we have chosen another firm. Nothing was communicated to me other than this fabrication of the actual facts. Perhaps there should be an Angie's list version of how clients perform!

I selected Earthworx after interviewing and getting bids from about 6 other companies. Although their bid was not the lowest, it was about in the middle. Also, they really seemed to know what they were doing, and had the right type of equipment and supplies for this particular job. We had to reschedule the actual work several times due to the extended freeze that we experienced, then the holiday season. Ron (the manager) was very good about communicating with me throughout the whole process. Shawn (who did the work) did a great job. I think it took a little longer than they expected, which didn't bother me; I think it came from the fact that he was very careful in everything he did, being precise about cuts and grading. He also was very nice about taking some of the excess soil off-site when it turned out to be more than I expected. All in all, I was pleased with the work, they did exactly what I asked them to do -- no more, and no less.
Description of Work: This project consisted of (1) demolishing existing front walkway; (2) excavating (to a depth of 4") walkways and patio areas in the front parking strip, front yard and back yard; (3) doing some grading (not extensive) to provide level slope for walkway and (4) hauling in and compacting 5/8 minus gravel over the entire area. The walkway concrete was left on-site, and most of the excavated soil was piled onsite and left.

I was originally looking to rent conveyors as I had planned to accomplish the job with my own labor and material hauling method, but after speaking with Ron about the whole job, it was very clear that he's an extremely knowledgable guy and could help achieve the job way easier and faster than could be accomplished other ways. I received prompt communication by phone and email in all cases and got a very professional and thorough quote that made it clear how things could change as the digging started (so, no surprises later, all variable costs well understood). The crew arrived on site every day on time and ready to go, and were very professional and organized. Sean was the on site supervisor and we coordinated temporary help to do a lot of the handwork. Ron stopped by the job site to check on progress and take care of any errands on a daily basis and I was well informed as to status. They did a great job protecting the floors and isolating dust from the work area. They also did a conscientious job of cleaning the floors and work area each night. The job took longer to complete than we had originally hoped, but only because of the amount and nature of the soil to be dug. I also underestimated the exact dimensions I needed dug by about 20%, so certainly in any case I don't feel there was any fault on Earthworx related to the time issues. Also, they were very good about negotiating fair prices and rates, so I'm very happy. You might think that digging is simple and what does it matter, but from my experience and from listening to their stories about other jobs, I can say honestly that experience and professionalism matters hugely, and these guys have it. They're great!
Description of Work: Excavate 80 yds of dirt from crawlspace area using conveyors and hand-digging. Haul all removed material and dump at offsite facility). Supervise temporary labor crew doing the hand work.
