DJ'S HARDWOOD FLOORS

I found DJ's on Angie's List and called him on a Monday. DJ said he would call me back that evening when he had his calendar and set up a time. He called me back that night (which the other installer recommended by another company never did, even after I called him 5 times) and we set up a date and time for the installation. DJ arrived in the morning of the install ahead of the installer to look at the job. He gave us great suggestions on some of the details we had not thought about. The installer arrived at 9:30 am and called me at 4:00 pm to say he was done and locking up the house. When I got home, the floor was installed and it's beautiful. The installer also put in the transition pieces between the living room and dining room. The other company's pre-finished wood flooring contained defects, so I purchased more flooring to allow the installer to select the good ones. Unfortunately, the installer went so quickly that he didn't inspect each piece thoroughly, resulting in many defective boards being installed. My recommendation to others would be to go through the boxes first and pull out the flooring that is chipped, cracked or otherwise flawed, and not rely on the installer to do so.

They did an excellent job. We had gotten four quotes and their pricing was very competitive, and DJ is very responsive and a pleasure to deal with. The work was completed on time and they did an excellent job cleaning up, which is much appreciated when you're putting in an unfinished hardwood which has to be sanded and finished. When the person that actually installed the floor forgot to put the closet door back on its track before he stained and you have to be off the floor for a few days, he told us about it and was very apologetic. DJ offered to go back and fix it, which he did promptly. I would highly recommend them.

Wasn't totally happy with the job, some of the wood still needed to be replaced and they didn't replace; when I asked why they said they ran out of wood. Some places you can't see the old wood but some places you can and I paid for the whole floor to be repaired not just certain spots. Other than those few spots the overall job was good.

DJ arrived on time for our appt. to submit an estimate. We set a date for the work to be done and he was here for three days putting hardwood floors in our family room. He cleaned up daily and left the area clean upon completion. They did an excellent job.

After he'd sanded the floors he called to tell me that the floors were really old and that the boards were thin. Some of the boards had splintered and the nails were showing almost everywhere. Some of the nails were showing before he started and it was pretty clear from looking at the floors (even to me) that they were old. I was quite surprised and disappointed that we didn't have this discussion before he started sanding. So, anyway, he replaced the splintered boards and stained the floors. I went to take a look and it was awful. Of course, it was discolored where there were new boards. I was even okay with that. But there was this weird scalloping, discoloration around the replaced boards that I really couldn't live with. I told him that this scalloping was a problem. He came back and fixed it. It's still a bit blotchy but much better. Overall the floors are passable. Although there are circles of stain where he left the buckets and there are parts of the floor where there are deeper depressions. And, (I think this is typical) our white moldings were covered in stain. He also didn't re-hang the closet doors when he was done. On the plus side, the end result is okay. And the exchanges (that could have gotten quite ugly) remained very professional. He kept coming back until the job was complete and didn't try to charge any extra for his time.

Excellent. The work was begun on the date promised and finished on time and on budget.

DJ worked with me to find the most economical solution, which required purchasing wood from multiple sources. Excellent quality, on time, on budget & highly recommended.

DJ's called back within 1 day. His quote was over the phone only as he would not come out to see the actual job site. He did not ask questions like vents, transitions etc. I got the feel that this job wasn t really what he wanted to do. His quote was price per sqft. to install the wood floor plus an hourly rate for anything else. That s a quote with an open end. All other contractors I have contacted so far came out to see the actual site, have provided a written bid and were further lower in cost. ($2500)

DJ is very good and very polite. Every time I called his cell phone he answered it. The floors look like new. The boards that he replaced look just like the others.

The project went very well. DJ was very nice and professional, showed up on time and did the installation a week later in less than an hour. When I mentioned refinishing the floors myself, DJ even gave me some pointers on the project.

It went great. There were 3 people including DJ, who did the work in about 4.5 days. They were very creative in solving the little surprises that happen in a remodel. DJ was great about offering suggestions but deferring to our decision. He is really easy to work with and produces high quality work. We have some older floors that need refinishing and we are going to call DJ once we are ready for that! We have two cats that we kept locked up in a separate room during the week. They were very respectful of the cats and made sure to keep the room closed off. You can't go wrong with DJ and his team.

The job is fabulous. DJ was very professional from start to finish. He arrived on time for the estimate. He gave a written estimate, put me on his schedule, and called to confirm, since it was about three weeks out. He did precisely what I asked. The repair is of such high quality, I can't not even tell where the added wood is and where the original wood is. I had expected to have a line where the newly finished area ends, but there is no such line. It looks beautiful. They were very neat in the way they worked. Nothing could have been better about the experience.

Everything was super great, from start to finish. DJ came when he said, to give me the estimate. And was quick and professional and gave me a great estimate. When he was done, we met up at the house (he ended up having to give me a ride, car problems) but with my final inspection, I had no complaints, at all. It looked fantastic. Still does! I've already hired him, again, to install hardwood floors at my house.

This was a great experience. DJ was prompt, thorough and very fair. His time estimate was right on and his crews were there working hard every day. Our floors look wonderful! The only drawback was that he doesn't take credit cards and we couldn't run this expense through our Mileage Plus account to get a free vacation out of it as well!

DJ was able to give me an estimate within a few days of contacting him. We decided to hire DJ and he had a cancellation so he was able to start in just a few weeks. DJ was always available to answer any questions we had. He and his crew showed up as scheduled and found out we had water damage under the vinyl in the kitchen. He showed us the problem and gave an estimate of how much it would cost to replace the sub-floor. He replaced the sub-floor and installed new wood in the kitchen. When we returned after 3 days it looked good, but there was still a little water damage that didn't stain well and the finish bubbled up in places. Upon looking at it DJ said he would have to redo the floor. He thought maybe the finish was cold that is why it bubbled up. The area that had water damage he found a wider board and replaced it. The finished floor turned out beautifully. He did not charge for the redo.

The new floors are beautiful. DJ and his crew did an amazing job. They were on time, did great work and were true professionals.

DJ was good about trying to fit within our time constraints -- we were the problem, not him. We finally reached a good compromise, and he showed up on the day he promised and did the work he promised. The flooring he recommended was just what we wanted, and the installation was first rate. We've had 2 other flooring people in for different jobs, and DJ is by far the best. I would never use either of the others again, and I'd be happy to recommend DJ for the quality of his work and his responsiveness to his customers.

It was great and easy. My floors went from a light oak to a deep cherry color. DJ and his team were always responsive. They called when they said they would, they were always on time, and did a beautiful job on my floors. He told me how to take care of them the first few weeks and gave me helpful tips along the way.

I thought they were a nice company. There was a very nice man that came out to do the work however he made a mistake and tried to cover it up. The sander was supposed to be in neutral and accidentally went into our den area where there was carpet. He tried to patch the carpet instead of telling me about it first. He finally admitted his mistake and had their insurance company pay to replace the carpet.

DJ's Hardwood Floors' communication was superb. I felt like there were no unknowns in anything they were doing. They have really fantastic customer service and they really helped us out. They went above and beyond for us.

DJ's Hardwood did an excellent job refinishing our hardwood floors in our living room, dining room and hallway. We had carpet in our stairs, but we had our son remove it before DJ's came it. They completely removed the stairs and did a great job on the new one, using beautiful hardwood oak. They were very professional and came on the time they said they would.

Excellent. DJ was responsive and a good communicator. We encountered several issues removing the flooring including uneven subfloors so demolition took longer than expected. His crew did a beautiful job installing our prefinished wood floors.

Okay. The detail work is where we were not as happy. Nice man who works hard, but the finished product wasn't as high quality as we had hoped. He did fix some things that we requested but not all of them.

We pulled up the wall-to-wall carpet, to find the hardwood floor beneath in bad shape. We called DJ and he came by at our convenience and gave us an estimate. He was booked out for a while, but then was able to give us the option to do the work earlier, than expected, again at our convenience. This was a bonus for us! DJ and his team came and did exactly what he said, they were going to do in the time frame, that he had told us. Because of the extent of the damage to the original floor, DJ was willing to replace more of the floor for us, than he originally stated and did not charge us any extra labor. He was extremely clear about what he was doing and why, and this was very much appreciated. Overall, an excellent experience. DJ is on the top of my list to call, when we take up the rest of the carpet in the main floor of our home.

I found DJ on Angie's List. Throughout the process of talking to several contractors, deciding to do it, meeting in person and getting the work done, he was always very available by phone or email. When we first spoke on the phone, he clearly explained the process, the choices involved and a rough estimate. I scheduled a week that would work for us (he had a waiting list). About 2 weeks before the work, I called him so we could meet him and give a key because we would be out of town during the work. He came out the next day, gave us an on-paper estimate and explained everything. He made me feel safe about allowing him in the house, having a strict policy of not letting anyone else in. When we returned home, the floors looked wonderful. He called to check in and when I asked him how he thought I should handle a spot on the hallway carpet (maybe varnish?), he came out that night and cleaned it and gave us the full bottle of floor cleaner he used. DJ clearly takes pride in his work.
