DJ'S HARDWOOD FLOORS

Dennis (the owner of DJ's Hardwoods) came out and provided a free estimate himself and told me what to expect if we chose his company. He told me to think it over and if we decided to go through with it to give him a call. I appreciated his honesty and him letting me make the decision on my own time without being pushy. We scheduled a time that was convenient and he and his men were promptly on time. The work was completed in the time and cost that Dennis had estimated which were very reasonable considering the work. Dennis warned me that the newly replaced flooring might not exactly match the rest of the hardwoods until it had a chance to wear and blend in with the rest. I was pleasantly surprised as they did a really nice job of repairing the damaged areas and blending the refinishing with the existing hardwoods. You can barely tell the difference between the new and old hardwoods. They also helped buff a few water spots that were left from the planter's feet even though they were not in the same area as the mainly damaged spot. I would highly recommend DJ's Hardwoods to anyone with wood flooring.

This is the second job DJ has done for me. The first one was perfect. DJ is very prompt and responsive. He has a good customer service attitude. He has an excellent eye and was extremely helpful in coming up with a plan to make the fireplace floor/hearth surround look wonderful. We had a difference of opinion about what the estimate covered and he refunded part of my money based on that difference. There was a problem with the work in one room that I had to have some of it redone. DJ got someone out to fix the problem right away. There are still a couple of spots that don't look so good, and I am sure that DJ would send the crew back again until it is perfect. But, I can't stand anymore of the fumes from the Swedish finish, so I am willing to leave it as is. My one suggestion to DJ would be that he have a more specific written estimate to avoid misunderstandings. I would not rate the ceramic tile work as highly as the work on the wood floors. I mis-measured and asked for 3/8" grout lines. They are too wide and don't look good. Also, NOW I see on the box that max width for the grout is 1/8". This is my fault for asking for the wider groutlines. But, I am not a floor expert and didn't know better. I was reachable by telephone so could have been told that the grout does not support such a wide line. Also, one of the tiles that was used has a chipped corner. This is a small chip & not real obvious, but the imperfect tile should not have been used as extra tiles were available.

While DJ came in a little higher than other bids, the result is well worth it both in terms of work quality and general care. His crew was punctual, careful and thorough. While sanding machines were used for the bulk of the surface area, the last couple of inches by the baseboards is done by hand. Every step of the staircase and banisters were carefully taped. The cooking range was wrapped in plastic to protect it. The floors look and feel wonderful and all the work was completed on time and on the estimated budget. DJ is knowledgeable, available and professional. While the price was about 10-12% higher than a competing bid, we are confident the extra care and results are worth it.

My fir floors were in horrible shape -- lots of nail holes, pockmarks, and scratches. DJ and his crew came promptly and went to work on what proved to be a very challenging job. When the usual type of sandpaper didn't work, he went to another and found a way to get the job done. He did the work for the bid price and gave the Angie's discount even though he had extra difficulties. Best of all, my floors look absolutely beautiful -- DJ's treatment brought out the good natural look in the wood. Very professional, prompt service at a fair price -- couldn't ask for anything more.

DJ was good about tracking me down for a quote. I am probably on the outer edge of his service area, but he didn't seem to mind. He came to my house and was very professional. Recommended some great extra touches (re-did the heat registers) that really made the project. Two workers showed up on time for the work and did a great job. The sealed off the work area and sanded down the floors. They were very nice and cleaned up as they worked. DJ came out several times, but I was at work most of the time they were on the job. The floors turned out GREAT. I would for sure use them again... but won't need to for a few years when I'll probably have them out again for a light sanding and refinishing (vs a full strip and refinish). It took me a long time to write this review, so I hope he forgives me. If you are considering using DJs for your project don't worry. It's a great company and they do outstanding work at a fair price.

It turned out gorgeous! I had gotten 6 different bids; his was by far the lowest. Normally, we wouldn't go with the lowest, but he had such great reviews on Angie's List. He was extremely professional, upfront, and polite. He really impressed us with his demeanor. He finished on-time and there were no surprises. He charged exactly what he said he would. Things were done incredibly nicely. I spent a lot of time removing things from the area to prep for the refinishing, but they ended up sealing the area, so there was no mess at all.

DJ was highly responsive via both e-mail and telephone. As I was out of town while the work was done, he kept me informed regularly. I was quite pleased with the result. Floors look MUCH better. DJ was great to work with. Would recommend to others.

Excellent experience. DJ is top notch to work with and I would highly recommend his company. We were prepping our house to sell, and only had a few weeks for everything to come together. I called DJ in the afternoon and he was at the house the next day to give us a bid. He beat the competition on price, and after reading many reviews on Angie's List I went with DJ. He easily got us on the schedule within two weeks and his guys had the work finished in two days. We were able to move back in two days after they finished. After 8 years of abuse from two full sized labs and two kids, I was shocked by how good the floors look again. Good as new. My only regret is not having DJ fix our floors years ago.

I thought it went very well. They did a pretty good clean up . They did tape over paintings on the wall to protect from the dust. I did have some stains on the stairs and was not sure if it was their fault but they were amiable in letting me know that they will take care of it. Overall I was very happy.

Everything went exactly as described. I came home to floors I didn't believe could look so good. (They had been deeply scarred and stained.) I was completely amazed at how they looked. There was minimal dust. I am a happy camper.

Dennis and crew showed up ealy Sunday AM to get the job started. They coordinated with the painter and things went great. The job was completed as promised on time. Very little mess and the floors look exceptional. I would hightly reccommed Dennis and his crew to others.

This is the second time I've used this company and as usual, professional and impecable work. On time, on budget and high quality work.

DJ responded immediately to my request for a price quote. After receiving several quotes we decided to go with DJ's Hardwood. He wasn't the lowest bid but he had very good reviews on Angies List and we liked him immediately. The crew arrived as scheduled and were on site every day until the job was completed. I am a bit of a perfectionist and DJ listened to my concerns and made sure I was 100% satisfied with the job.

DJ is knowledgeable and professional in his dealing with us from initial contact to completed project. There were no surprises or additional costs, the work was done on time and as expected, at a reasonable expense. The floor looks new. The entire experience with DJ and his company was first class from start to finish.

The estimate was almost same as the other company. They said that they would like to look at the job first. The guy that owns the company did the estimate and he was great. He was a nice guy and I have no any complaints about him.

They were very professional and their craftsmanship was very good. They damaged the walls a bit as they carried heavy equipment but they repainted the walls. They knew what they were doing and I was satisfied with their service.

DJ was great - he's a no-nonsense guy but very kind. He was on time for the estimate and even worked with me outside of his normal hours to accomodate my work schedule. He was informative, educated me on the various finishes available so that I could make an informed decision, and provided what seemed like a reasonable bid. I was on a tight timeline - the renters were moving out and I had less than a week before I had to move in. DJ worked with me on the scheduling so that we could squeeze it in without me having to reschedule the movers. He and his crew worked over a weekend and the floors looked great. The only issue I have is regarding protection/clean up: The house was empty of furniture and when I and the movers showed up on moving day, I found that every wall in the house was coated with a fine layer of wood dust from, I assume, the sanding. Brushing up against a wall left my clothes, furniture, etc covered with dust. I had to vaccum the walls since wiping them down only caused the wood dust to "sift" down the wall (even with damp cloth). It was additional and time-consuming work that I was not anticipating (especially given the clean-up needed from what the renters left behind). Many months later, the floors still look great - the color coverage is even, brightness is still there, etc. My only recommendation is that you make your expectations known, up front, regarding protection/clean-up - don't assume that walls, vents and other rooms will be protected. One other thing - listen to DJ when he gives instructions on how to care for the floors (no rugs for several weeks, for example) - it may seem like an inconvenience but I listened to him and the color of both the oak and fir is consistent throughout.

It is with a heavy heart that we are unable to give straight A's to this company. With that said, we would hire them again and we still strongly recommend DJ's. DJ is a very calm, respectful and attentive business owner. If it wasn't for his desire to do the "right thing" this report's outcome would be VERY different. DJ's bid was spot on with other companies, but it was his personality and reviews from Angie's List that cemented our decison to hire him. Our remodel was completed in phases and DJ was very flexible. His crew completed the guest bedroom and hallway, then returned several weeks later for the dining room/kitchen...without additional "trip" charges!!!!! The crew was always on time and respectful of our concerns and requests. The issues that arose during this project were primarliy due to the quality of the product. Due to a dropped tool (denting flooring) and the installation of inferior product (not checked throughtly before installation) resulted in repairs that unfortunately made the problem exceedingly worse. DJ has been very responsive to our concerns. The solution to our situation is to have the floor refinished (there is no way to do just one area) and DJ has offered to do this!!! He also realizes that after a 18 month remodel, now is not the time. DJ stated that he is willing to come back in a year or two (when we are ready to put up with the mess) and re-do the floors. His comment was, "I would not be able to say "we stand on our work" if I didn't take care of you. Though we did not receive anything in writing, we feel confident that if he is still in business he will take care of us.

I was most impressed by the fact that his crew was less than 10 minutes late on the last morning when the radio was announcing 60 minute delays because of the rain storms. They were courteous, worked hard and completed the job in a timely fashion, completely to our satisfaction.

It went fantastic. They were top notch.

I had three bids and DJ's was the middle bid. I liked his attitude so I signed him on. They did miss the start date, but still got the job done. I would use him again in the future if needed.

DJ, company owner, responded to my request for a quote almost immediately. He was in our home within hours of my first call. The call was placed to this company first because of his outstanding rating I found on Angie's List.. I never had to look further. Work started precisely on schedule as promised. DJ was on site first thing in the morning, and his workers showed up less than half an hour later. The two skilled men include the owner's son and a highly skilled man of many years experience. Both of these guys worked like demons to finish on schedule, and in fact did finish well before the projected finish time. The clean up was done at least a day in advance of the projected finish date and time. The finished work was very fine and exceeded our expectations. The final cost was slightly higher than estimate, but this was due to additional work added by homeowner.

They were very professional. They were able to give us accurate estimates. I feel that their prices were competitive. We changed our mind about the type of flooring that we wanted. However, they were still able to finish the job in the original quoted time frame. The work was done while we were on vacation. It was great! We were certainly satisfied with the quality of their work.

The quality of the work was excellent! Our old, worn floors have been restored to like-new condition. Everyone was very professional and took care explain what needed to be done and answer questions.

Great experience. Always on-time, or early. I selected a stain I wasn't happy with, so the crew removed that and refinished with a different stain. They stayed within the timeframe I was expecting (they worked on Sunday to accomplish that). I knew that there would be additional charges for the re-work due to my error, and those charges were quite reasonable. The crew cleaned up, and there was less dust/debris that I had expected.
