I ended up not doing the project. One of the things that was frustrating with buying the property was that people would come out and then not give me a bid.

The bid process was very thorough and extremely accurate. We came in at bid with only changes which were prompted by us. Coburn Construction uses sub-contractors who have a proven-commitment to excellence and have earned the company?s trust by doing the same highest-quality work on each job. Most of the subs have worked for Coburn Construction for years, just as the Coburn crew has worked together for many years. Each of the subs and the crew members was extremely knowledgeable. They have seen it all and it was very helpful that they were willing to share expertise with us, answering questions and offering honest suggestions and opinions when we asked, ?What do you think?? We made some changes such as adding a sound system and the crew designed the storage and did the installation for us. Everyone was committed to a finished product that was better than we could have imagined. Furthermore, the workers were polite and considerate, even when they didn?t know we were in the vicinity. The jobsite was always orderly and clean. The scheduling was impeccable with no delays and we were kept informed of the schedule. Payments were made on a milestone basis meaning everyone agreed up-front when a payment would be due (i.e. after the sheetrock was installed) and the exact amount. Great attention was paid to detail and every visitor who sees our finished work comments on the fine quality. From the tile-work on the fireplaces and in the bathrooms and kitchen, to the custom wood mantels and other installations, the perfectly finished sheetrock with absolutely square corners, to the interior painting with exceptional lacquered trim and doors, our project says, ?High quality?. We could not be more pleased with our finished product. Every attention was paid to making it the highest quality construction possible. Coburn Construction has only one standard: small jobs receive the same quality workmanship as high-end jobs and they are responsive and ethical. The company?s motto is ?Exceeding Expectations? and our remodel proved that to be so true. We absolutely recommend Coburn Construction without reservation. Coburn will exceed anyone?s expectations. ed
Description of Work: We originally contacted Coburn Construction because we planned only to replace windows. In discussion with the owner, Carmine Coburn, when he came out to give us a bid, we began asking him some questions about what else he thought we could do to update our 1975 home to give us more open space, a reconfigured kitchen and a larger entry way which has always been crowded and small. Carmine draws on a wealth of construction experience and was able to envision many options for our space. As he tossed out the various suggestions, we caught his vision and decided to pursue a major update to our home with help from a designer he thought would do a good job for us

Description of Work: We had a hard time finding a good quality, ethical and reasonably priced contractor to remodel two bathrooms and a laundry room. We interviewed several contractors who came across as completely unreliable. Carmine was professional in his response at quote time and his crew did excellent work. He was up front with us that we would have to wait quite awhile before he could begin his job. We ended up waiting quite a lot longer than his original time frame. But when he and his crew did show up, they were punctual and were here everyday until the job was done. Carmine got a little upset with my questions about project cost. It ended up costing more than I expected, with several change orders contributing to that overrun, Some things were charged that we felt should have just been included in the base cost. An example was extra hours charged for replacing electrical receptacles and wall plates that had to come off and put back on when the walls were painted. This is our first remodel so maybe we just did not know how these things should work.

Im sorry Brad isnt completely satisfied with the experience working with us. That is always our goal. I would respectfully say that the review doesnt accuartly describe what occured with the change orders. The biggest one (which was as I recall around $200) was that per the drawings we were working off did not show a shower niche that the clients wanted. We had already begun tiling when this was brought up. We stopped and reviewed this with them, and tore open work that we had already completed and got the niche put in. We did it effeciently and without complaints. At the time it seemed like it was understood that we would have to charge for it. If they had wanted to, they could have back charged the designer. As far as the outlets go, I am dissapointed that there is a complaint about this. I thought I was doing the right thing, by minding the little details. The job looks amazing and I felt the old crusty, painted on outlets needed to be replaced. I did so and the charge was very minimal. Somehting I thought would be appreciated. I know the job we did there was excellent, and I know that on a job of that magnatude there will be little things that will pop up. We do as good of job at trying to cover all those bases, and if something does come up, we pride ourselves on positive constructive communication with our clients. It truly is a shame that out of all the care and attention to detail we put into that job, this particular client doesnt appreciate the job he got. I think if he works with some other crews, he will appreciate having a crew that cared about all the details including putting in shiny new outlets. Please read our other reviews and you will find a theme of being conscientious, detail oreinted and having good communication. We treat our jobs as if they were our own homes. Turth be told, I have a feeling there would have been a complaint if I left those crusty outlets in....I guess no matter how hard you try, you cant please everyone. However, I promise we will keep trying (-:

We had water leaking into our rental house garage under the man-sized door on the side of our garage. This left a puddle of water inside the garage after a heavy rainfall. I did not even begin to know how to fix this. I spoke with Carmine Coburn on the phone and although this was a smaller job than they normally do, he agreed to come look at it and make a suggestion. I asked him for a cost effective solution since this is an older home and we were not interested in updating, only in maintaining the home. Carmine came up with a suggested repair, which we then hired his company to complete. Since I was flexible on the timing, we agreed that his crew could make the repairs when they were able to, in between their other larger projects. Carmine communicated with me when his crew would arrive and they followed through with their promises and the job was completed in just a couple of days. Since I live out of town, Carmine worked with me and made it very easy by purchasing the new door and the lockset for me. I had a very good experience with Carmine and his company, Coburn Construction. I am unsure how much any other construction company would have charged me but I felt it was a good value for what I received. I would definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: Coburn Construction did the following work for us:- Removed existing garage man-door-Cut the concrete sidewalk in front of the door-Installed a trench style drain with drain rock-Installed a new steel garage man-door with handle and deadbolt-Caulked and Sealed.

Because they had another big job they were working on, it took a while before they could start on ours. However, we had met with Carmine and were impressed with his straightforward, honest approach. So, we waited and they were worth the wait. They started in late September by taking everything out of the master bath. From then on, it was steady progress on first the master bath and then the family bathroom. There were very few days that someone wasn't at our house working on one stage of the project or another. All plumbing and cabinets were ordered and were there ready to go when needed. If there were changes that needed to be made to the initial plan, they let us know immediately. There were no big surprises however. All the workmen that showed up at our house were courteous, efficient, and cleaned up the work site each day. The tile work was especially well done and there was a lot of it in both bathrooms. Shane did an outstanding job with that. By mid December, we had two totally new bathrooms with everything we wanted.
Description of Work: Completely remodeled two bathrooms: a family bathroom and master bathroom. Master bath required new walls to be put in to create a separate space for the toilet and moved the location of the shower. In the master bath, we installed heat mats on the floor and replaced carpet with slate tile. A new bathtub was installed with caesarstone surrounding it and new fixtures. A shower with slate floor and walls was installed with new heavy duty glass doors and a rainhead shower head etc. New taller cabinets were put in with caesarstone counter, undermount sinks, and slate backsplash. An additional floor to ceiling linen closet was also added. A new small room was created for the new toilet. They put in two better fans and new lighting, painted the walls, mouldings, doors. Lighting was replaced adding wall sconces and new mirrors over the vanity, and pendant lighting over the bathtub. The family bathroom did not require new walls, but as in the master bathroom, everything was replaced: tub, toilet, counters, countertops, sinks, mirrors, lighting, fan, tile in the shower. Heated tile replaced linoleum on the floor and a new sliding shower door was added. Cabinets were replaced with taller ones as well. Again, everything was repainted.

The first time I contacted Carmine Coburn in June 2010 he explained that he keeps his company small, which allows him to give high quality attention to every job. At that time he was very busy and would not have been able to start my job for several months. He went on to explain his method of bidding, which is to provide a detailed, completely transparent bid. Working from his bid I can see exactly what everything costs and where I can make adjustments to get exactly the outcome I want. He also explained that he does not start a job until he can see it through to completion. Based on this conversation I decided to wait until the fall when he would be available and I am very glad I did. I have already done well over $100,000 worth of work to our house in the last 4 years and Coburn Construction is by far the best contractor I have worked with. Once we had a start date set, Carmine and his crew showed up exactly as agreed and they came everyday and worked all day until the job was done to my satisfaction. The crew is very professional. They worked all day and cleaned up every day before they left. The work is excellent overall. Shane takes great pride in his tile work and it shows. This was a bathroom that needed quite a bit of plumbing and electrical rework, which they accomplished without a problem. They were great at troubleshooting and figuring out how to make things work given that the bathroom had some incorrect modifications done in the past. I also asked them to install several doors and some missing baseboard and trim. They did an excellent job of making the new material work with the old. We had some minor confusion over the final bill and Carmine was very honest and straightforward while we figured why our numbers were different. We resolved it without any difficulty. I definitely plan to hire this company to do another bathroom and my kitchen.

I would like to respond to this post. I dont appreciate the F rating. I took the time to send out my window rep at the request of this member. During which time our schedule began to fill up. We are a small company and we do the best we can to get to everyone. I was honest with this member and let her know that we are booked 6 plus months out at this time. We did NOT say we were to busy to bother. This posting should be removed because it isnt fair or accurate to what transpired. We are very busy currently and that is due to the fact that we treat each job with care an importance.

It didn't go at all. Coburn failed to return my call. I've learned from past experience that if you want 3 bids, you have to call at least 6 companies because some will not even call back. The ones who actually show up to view the work site, one or two may not even send a bid.
Description of Work: I have an old shower enclosure that is leaking. I need it removed, and new pan with tile walls installed. I also need to change out the old fixtures with new, plus add a glass shower door.

I spoke with a Li Lin, and let her know that were are currently booked out several months and not taking on other work at this time. We are a small company, and our Angies List rating is very important to us. We go above and beyond for all our customers and certainly our Angies List customers. Being a small company we can only take on so many jobs at once, and we find it is better to be up front and let people know we are booked out rather than making promises we cant keep. In this case I did not speak to the member directly, but rather, I spoke to the spouse, and perhaps the message was not passed on. This post does not accurately reflect how our company does business. We have put in years of hard work to establish our rating. I'm sorry this customer felt ignored by us, but I assure anyone researching our company that we put a high level of care into our work, from initial phone call, to finished product. Our company does not have a receptionist (less overhead, allows us to stay competitive), and we are very busy (because of the quality work we do). So, if you dont get a call back on the first attempt, call us back, we'd love to talk with you about your projects.

The most impressive aspect of Coburn Construction is the amazing quality of their work. The quality stood out from the first day and we have not been disappointed. At no point did I ever feel they were rushing through anything and there were even times they chose on their own to redo something because they were not satisfied with how it had been completed. Not only did they show up when they said they were going to (not common with any of my past experiences), but they were extremely professional about dealing with any and all questions and concerns we had during the process. Carmine was always open to hearing our questions and I never felt like he was blowing me off or trying to discount my concerns. He would address the issue and if something needed to be redone, they did it without ever showing any frustration. I cannot stress enough the level of professionalism shown by Carmine and his crew throughout the entire process. Because our remodel began just as my boys were getting out of school for the summer, the crew had the added difficulty of working around three wild boys. They did this without a hitch and my boys actually miss having them around. Having extra people in your house for four months is never easy, but the Coburn crew were some really great guys to have around! To be able to say you look forward to them shows just what kind of guys they are! I am proud to show off the work they have done in our home and I would recommend Carmine and his crew over and over. I truly believe their work stands out against any others out there.
Description of Work: Three bathrooms completely redone. Showers and floors tiled, new vanities installed, new lighting, fans, and mirrors installed. Entry way tiled and bamboo flooring installed on main floor. Stair rails, balusters, and newel replaced. Moved and rebuilt central wall. Moved and replaced windows and siding. Replaced fireplace and retiled around new one. Installed built-in cabinets. Moved kitchen island and installed supports for enlarged size. Installed new cooktop and vent/fan in new island. Replaced all baseboards on main floor. New lighting throughout main floor as well as upstairs bathrooms.

I must say the entire process from beginning to end was a great experience. There was a crew of four gentlemen on the job and they were all very professional, extremely friendly and very hard working. The quality of their workmanship was top of the line. The owner Carmine Coburn was always available to us to answer any and all questions we had regardless of how small they were. He and his crew did everything possible to provide us with the finished projects that we desired and would be proud to show our friends, family, and neighbors with pride! They certainly accomplished this. We have future remodel projects in mind and we will use Coburn Construction for them without hesitation.
Description of Work: Our home is 28 years old and the laundry room/bathroom was in desperate need of updating. Coburn Construction provided a very reasonable bid and were hired for the job. They built a permanent shelving unit with four sections to hold large laundry baskets on one side of the laundry. This was finished with granite tiles on the top and in the cubbies below. This is not only attractive but allows for easy access to the baskets and provides a smooth surface for folding laundry and also a gift wrapping/craft area. A new dryer vent was installed and then run under the house and vented properly out. The exsisting toilet, laundry tub and faucets were removed and replaced with new. A beautiful solid granite counter was placed around the laundry tub area. They finished the walls with a smooth texture after the old wall paper was removed for painting. The exsisting linoleum was removed, then the floor was reenforced, leveled and 18" travertine tiles put down. The quality of the work done on the laundry room was exceptional. Our deck off the master bedroom had rotted away so we had them remove the exsisting deck and replace it with one built out of "Trex" decking materials. The railing installed was made of glass and the finished deck is beautiful and the glass allows for an unobstructed view of the water. We love it!

Knowing how we wanted our home to feel we proceeded forward and chose a very personable designer (Barry Senter (?Barry Design?). After several months and a lot of conversation Barry created our project on paper. We then spent more than a year talking to people about contractors and contractors themselves. During this time Barry had been working closely with Carmine Coburn (Coburn Construction) on a few different projects. Barry kept mentioning how he was impressed with Carmine?s work dually impressed with his attitude in that Carmine takes unusual pride in pleasing his clients. We interviewed Carmine along with a few other contractors and I need to say, at that time, it was a difficult choice, but the weight of the fact that Carmine?s work was getting rave review from Barry we went with Carmine (Coburn Construction). Carmine has a small highly skilled crew that consists of his brother and two longtime employees. Know that I work my business out of my home and was present (on-site) a good deal of the time during the construction. They show up at 8am 5 days a week and if they were going to be late (or otherwise) Carmine would call and give me a heads up as to why and when they will be there. Every time they worked inside the house they took extreme care to make sure the hardwood floors were protected and their work areas completely sealed off. Everything was tight, calked without a miss, primed before securing to the house, and absolutely square. As things go, as with all construction projects, the push and shove between time, materials, communication, and winter weather happens. I can only say everything was always taken care of without conflict or serious glitches. On the other end of the spectrum the few subcontractors that he had to use were not only obviously long term relationships, they were every bit a concerned about the quality of their own work as Carmine is. He obviously hand picks his subcontractors. As long as the project continued Carmine was continually checking in with us to see how we are doing and if he could improve anything as he goes. The bottom line is Coburn Construction is probably one of the best and most concerned contractors anyone could imagine. I?ve never experienced quality work and customer service like I have from them. If you are looking for a contractor it doesn?t get much better than this. If you have any questions concerning my experience with Coburn Construction your are most welcome to contact me. Description of Work: In 2000 when the Seattle real estate market was at the beginning of the last boom (people were lining up at Open Houses in competition to out bid each other) my wife and I purchased one of those neglected and somewhat abused “Post War Cottages” (2000 sq’ built in 1951). It has great bones but it was a true “Fixer upper”. This was a Major remodel: Removed the old cedar siding from 1951 Installed extremely detailed siding and shingles all around. Created an architectural peak on the front of the house Being mid winter in Seattle he primed all wood before installing it. Blew insulation into all the exterior walls Totally reconstructed the front Entrance/Stairs/walkway (poured concrete) Rebuilt wood soffits all around the house Removed 5 Windows and installed 9 new Windows Expanded and added architectural detail to the overhang on the rear deck Replace the old Trex Decking and extended its depth by 3 feet Built new Trex stairs leading to the Deck Installed outside lighting front & rear Install decorative Window on our detached Garage Added 30sq’ of stone to existing landscaping Installed new Aluminum gutters w/copper rain chains Installed Wrought Iron hand rails front and rear First off I need to say that running my business takes just about all my awake energy and for me to take the time to type a lengthy referral like this, this person would have to be more than “Way-Over-The-Top GREAT”! Coburn Construction is “Way-Over-The-Top Great”. He is a rare gem in the construction industry. Please read on: Know that my wife and I are not wealthy “Microsoft Executives” we are Seattle professionals who each work a huge amount of hours, save our money, and invest in our home. Since 2000 we’ve been through several remodel projects where a construction crew occupied our lives from two weeks to 3 months. It would be safe to say we are no longer naive when it comes to remodeling one’s home. We are also at the age where this is may be the last single family home we will live in and we, therefore, want to spend the next 25-30 years of our lives in a place that we absolutely love and where anyone passing by would say “now that is a nice home”.

Coburn Construction is absolutely amazing! I plan to call them, and only them, for all of my home improvement projects in the future. The team was dependable, professional, experienced/knowledgable, communicative, friendly, committed to excellence, AND neat and tidy. My new bathroom is absolutely amazing and flawless thanks to their hard work and excellent ability. From start to finish, the project lasted 2 months. During that time, the crew kept regular work hours and never disappointed me. I always had a clear picture of the overall status of the project and next steps. I highly, highly recommend them. In addition to the results achieved and their work style, I must add that I gave the crew complete access to my home because I needed to be at work. In addition, I have a Labrador Retriever, Porter, who can be a little shy, especially when new people come into our home. The crew was so good to Porter that, after the first few days, he was excited to see them when they arrived and he seemed to miss them during the first week or so after the project ended. In addition, for all of the time that the crew was alone in my home, nothing was amiss. They were very trustworthy and honest.
Description of Work: I hired Coburn Construction to perform an extensive remodel of my master bathroom. This included complete demolition of the previous materials, removing a closet, framing a new wall, expanding the shower, replacing the vanity, installing new tile, adding electrical components and plumbing fixtures, drywall repair, painting, and so forth.

How often is it that you can say you had a positive experience with a contractor? WE DID! In the beginning Carmine introduced us to the designer of our dreams, Barry Senter Design. This is where the relationship between everyone began. The level of detail that Carmine and his crew had to work with was unbelievable. This would be a contractors dream job. Coburn Construction's craftsmanship and attention to detail could not be matched. The entire crew and subcontractors demeanor and professionalism was something we thought never could exist. I don't know of any contractor that could come within 4% of their bid. The management of the project again was top notch. Coburn Construction was on time ,on budget as well as exceeded our overall expectations. This sounds to good to be true, but it is! If you are interested in using Coburn Construction, we invite you to come see his work. We're so happy with our results that we want others to have this same experience we had. Not only did they do amazing work, but they built our home with care and passion for what they love to do. WE LOVE OUR HOUSE!!!! Thanks Coburn Construction!!!!! Mark & Terri Siegel

Overall, everything was great. These guys went over the top to ensure the most minimal time to leave me without a toilet (old house, only bathroom, only one night!) Carmine, Shane and Chris were personable, approachable, professional and great to work with. I was so comfortable that I would be working a 13 hour shift while they were in my house. To top it off, they didn't go over budget.
Description of Work: Complete bathroom remodel. Demolition of old bathroom, install canned lights, vanity light, tub, tub fixture installation, floor & tub surround tile installation, heated floor mat, Toto toilet installation, suspended vanity installation and everything that goes along with it.

The quality of the work is excellent, with great care taken in the tile work. We used slate, a difficult material to work with, for the bathroom floor and shower stall, and it all looks spectacular. The job involved the usual juggling of electricians, plumbers, and (in our case) designers, with a fair amount of custom work done both by Coburn Construction and outside contractors. We had custom Shoji screens made for both the bedroom closet and the bathroom, and they did a great job installing them in both places. Very happy with the work, and we've stayed in touch and used them for subsequent jobs.
Description of Work: Coburn Construction acted as general contractor as well as doing much of the work themselves. The remodeling covered the master bedroom and bathroom, with a new walk-in closet for the bedroom and a custom shower and tub deck for the bathroom, with the construction and tile work done by Coburn Construction. The bedroom's footprint was expanded by taking out a wall to an adjacent, small room, which became part of the walk-in closet. A new window and door were installed in the bathroom.

This was our 3rd remodel/addition to our home of 15 years. I have worked with two previous builders and didn't rehire them. I would rehire Coburn Construction for any future projects. His personal crew and the group of sub's (plumping, electrical, foundation etc.) were all a terrific group to work with. Never felt uncomfortable with the men working here. Our project came in higher, but we added to the project. The time was longer than expected, but not due to Coburn. We had delays right off the start from bad weather and bad soil, when pouring the foundation. Coburn Construction never delayed the project, they were all here when they said they would be. It was the best remodeling experience to date!
Description of Work: We added a master suite to a 1950's home. Which included a breezeway, bedroom, bathroom, walk-in closet and a "man cave"...covered patio with a fireplace.

The whole job was fantastic. Everything looked amazing and I would recommend them to other people. They are professional and have a great service. They were very detailed and did not take long to finish the job at all. They are honest and reliable every step of the job.
Description of Work: They remodeled the bathroom completely. They gutted it and added new tile floors and custom cabinets. They also installed a new shower and toilet as well as a vanity that I had custom built.
