+ 0 moreGreat! Wonderful! I am so grateful to Angie's List for helping me to find this company. The sewing machine technician told me would do a general service on the machines and what he would check for on my machines that might be causing the problems. He also told me the expected cost and that he would call if the cost to repair was more than the estimate. The employees were social distancing compliant and very nice to work with. I plan to bring my sewing machines in to them for their next servicing, probably annually considering how much sewing I have done lately with making masks and getting a head start on Christmas. I can highly recommend them to anyone with sewing machine issues. They repair all brands of machines. And, they also repair vacuum cleaners.
Description of Work: They repaired two Viking sewing machines for me. One had tension issues (newer machine) one would only sew in reverse (6690 model).

Description of Work: My year old Singer sewing machine jammed when a needle broke and part of it fell inside. I tried to take the back off to retrieve the piece, but soon reached the limit of my competence and comfort. I took it to City Vacuum and Sewing at 4 pm on a Saturday, and it was serviced and adjusted by 11 am on Monday, for less than $100. With a pile of holiday gifts waiting to be made, I was grateful for the fast turn around. I had taken an older machine to another similar business last year and they wanted a week and a minimum of $200 just to look it!

Description of Work: I had both my sewing machine and vac tuned up, which they had not ever had. The service was excellent, on time, and priced as agreed. The owner recognized both machines immediately. He sold me the missing hose for my vac at a very reasonable price. And he showed me things on both machines I did not know about. I could not be happier.

Description of Work: City completed a thorough tune up, cleaning and adjustment of an older Viking sewing machine and returned it to its new performance. The price was very reasonable. My machine was ready as promised. I would definitely recommend them.

Description of Work: I went in to "test drive" a new vacuum and ended up buying one. The owner was very thorough in explaining the various vacuums on the market. And, he gave me a little trade-in value for my old Hoover. I bought a Panasonic vacuum and am very pleased with it.

Description of Work: My $25 yard sale low-end Singer sewing machine had something wrong and it would not sew without the thread breaking quickly. Like all sewing service places I contacted, there was a fixed fee to evaluate, clean, maintain the machine with additional fees if there was something seriously wrong. It was a little painful to pay 3x my original cost for a repair but I went for it. They got back to me in 24 hours and it needed nothing more than a tune-up and restoration of normal timing to the mechanisms. The machine worked perfectly for a couple of weeks but then the thread started breaking again. Fortunately, it was under warranty and they looked at it again and tweaked the timing and it works great now. I would highly recommend this shop and the owner is super nice.

Description of Work: I have had great experience with City Vac & Sewing for many years now. They serviced my sewing machine for $65. The same service at another sewing machine store costs $179. They carry my machine to my car, and are super nice. Nothing fancy or technical, but they are great for repair and tune up of sewing machines. Also had them replace the cord on my vacuum cleaner. No need to buy a new one. I tell all my sewing friends to take their machines there.

+ -1 moreWow - this place is FANTASTIC! I cannot say enough about the quality of service and price. The owner called me twice while working on the Janome to discuss options for some repairs and both machines were done in approx. a week for 50% less cost than the quote I'd received from a larger local sewing machine dealer/repair store. DO NOT be put off by the appearance of the place when you walk in - reminds me of repair places from the 1960s with things stacked to the ceiling and seeming clutter of machines. This place spends its money on competant repair people rather than flashy surroundings. There's a reason they've been in business for a long time!
Description of Work: I took both my Bernina serger and Janome Horizon in for servicing after a move.

+ -1 moreHe did a general cleaning and managed to clean the old oil out of the needle position control so that it is no longer frozen. He was able to replace the foot control which had overheated to the point that the contacts had melted. He was very knowledgable and able to answer all of my questions. And he did it all for a very reasonable price.
Description of Work: Repaired and got working my 1963 Elna sewing machine.

+ -1 moreThey are the best, polite professional, so helpful and I can't say enough good things about them. I would drive 50 miles if I had to to have them work on my sewing machine. The cost was very reasonable. T hey saved me hundred's of dollars by not having to buy another one.
Description of Work: This is the 2nd place I had taken my machine to. The first place said it couldn't be fixed and I would need to buy another machine, I went on Angies list and found city. They are awesome. They fixed my machine and it is as good as new. I would recommend them to everyone. They are the best.!!!!!!!

+ -1 moreI love this sewing machine shop. They are just fantastic. They charge a $80 flat fees and I believe the parts will be more than that. Only once I ever had to take it back and say it not quite right. They are helpful. They are polite and they remember their customers. I like them a lot. The shop is a little older and there are a lot of sewing machines and vacuums and the shop is not really pretty but for the actual work that they do I give them an and ldquo;Aand rdquo;, the work is just spot on. I have other friends who used them and they also felt the same way. Mr. Joe and Mr. George are fantastic. In terms of punctuality they are really fast. They can turn around machines in just a couple of days.
Description of Work: I have used City Vacuum & Sewing Center for my sewing machine; it's a father son shop. The last time I had been there was for a cleanup and they fixed the tensions and I may have got a new blade on it. It's been sewing beautifully ever since.

+ 0 moreBy Tuesday I hadn't received any calls so called and asked if it was ready - and it was. When I went to pick it up, they had it ready for me and it was only 65 to fix it. He explained what the problem was and told me to bring it back if I had any issues. The machine is working great and I am having no problems what so ever. I sew a lot and I greatly appreciated the fast turn around and the explaination of the problem.
Description of Work: My sewing machine would not make buttonholes and the thread kept breaking. It was only two years old and I really was frustrated. It was not an expensive machine and did not want to spend hundreds repairing something that cost only $250. I checked Angies List and discovered City Sewing and Vacuum, was very close to me. I took the machine there, explained what was happening. I left the machine on a Friday and told them to call me if it would be a lot to fix it. I was told that they would call me if that happened, and that is would be ready on Tuesday.

+ -1 moreI would rave about this company. I’ve taken my machine in to another place twice and they tried to sell me a new machine and told me that my machine was too old to repair. They claim 24 hour turnaround—they didn’t turn it around that quickly but it was because they were struggling with my machine and it took five days. When I got it back, it was like I had a brand new machine and they truly fixed it. It was so bizarre to have my machine work so well after I had taken it in twice to another place and had no results. It took longer than I expected but the results were tremendous; these guys were fantastic.

Description of Work: I brought my vacuum cleaner into the shop with a broken plug. Joe looked at it, gave me an estimate of $12.99, then fixed the problem in about five minutes while I watched.

+ -1 moreVERY QUICK SERVICE. THEY CALLED BACK IN THE SAME DAY. ALTHOUGH THERE WASN'T ANYTHING THEY NEEDED TO FIX THEY DID HAVE THE PARTS I NEEDED FOR THE VACUUM FOR IT TO WORK PROPERLY AND I BOUGHT THEM. WHEN THEY WOULDN'T STAY ON I BROUGHT THEM BACK AND THEY EXCHANGED THEM FOR NEW ONES.
Description of Work: I HAVE A FILTER QUEEN VACUUM AND IT WASN'T WORKING PROPERLY. I BROUGHT IT IN FOR REPAIRS OR FOR THEM TO LOOK AT. THEY DID NOT CHARGE ME ANY UPFRONT FEES AND THERE WAS NO CHARGE TO FIX THE VACUUM. IT JUST NEEDED NEW CORDS THAT I COULD PUT TOGETHER MYSELF. I BOUGHT THE CORDS FROM THEM AND IT WORKS FINE.
