Two years ago, one of our pipes burst due to freezing. This was the second time in the same spot. Stack fixed the pipe and explained that our home builder had run the pipe to the outdoor hose spigot along an uninsulated exterior wall of our garage (not to code). At my request, the Stack plumber added a valve to turn off the water to that pipe in the winter (standard in colder climates but not installed by the builder here). He said that he could not guarantee this would prevent freezing (very honest) because to do it properly would cost much more (making the pipe slope down from the valve would involve carpentry) but he was willing to try what I asked. Two years later we have not had freezing recurr since we can turn off the water in that pipe each fall. I will definately use them again.
Description of Work: Repaired pipe, installed valve

Jim, the owner of Stack Plumbing, tried to help me do this work over the phone without having to come to our home but I couldn't do it so he came over the day after Thanksgiving. He was prompt and efficient. He knew exactly how to fix the problem and did it quickly as well as clean out hair that had been accumulated over the years in the trap.
Description of Work: Bath tub stopper didn't open up after a bath so water couldn't drain. Removed bath tub stopper trip. Cleaned hair. Lube stopper, adjusted, re-installed and tested OK.

Mike removed and replaced the laundry water service box and valves. New box has separate hot and cold shut off valves with water arresters rather than the common old valve. Mike was prompt, efficient and got the job done well.

I attempted to install a new sink myself. Ran into problems and needed help. Checked Angies List and found good reviews for Stack Plumbing. Decided to give them a try. All the good things that were written about Stack Plumbing are true. I was very satisfied. They got everything squared away in very little time and for a very reasonable cost. I'll call them again the next time I have a plumbing problem.

I called Stack Plumbing in the morning and spoke with the owner, Jim, about a water leak under our kitchen sink. He said he could come by that same afternoon. He arrived on time and quickly discovered a cracked water filter cartridge. Because he usually carries replacements in the truck but didn't have any at that time, he stopped by the next day with a new filter at no charge!
Description of Work: Jim came out on short notice to diagnose a water leak. Professional, personable and reasonable cost.

It went very badly. It started out okay, with me helping him do some tests to figure out why the bathtub wasn't getting hot water. After a short while though, he saw a little bit of rust on the outlet drain of the bathtub. He said it's a sign that the bathtub needed replaced. Before I knew it he was going off on a tangent encouraging me to do a whole $5,000 bathroom remodel, complete with a new tub, new tile, etc. Not once did he pause to ask me whether or not I was interested in that. From our perspective, the tub itself works just fine, we just need hot water for the time being. Maybe a few years down the road that would be feasible, but for now, we just want hot water! I had to interrupt him to stop that train of thought and try to pull him back to the reason he came. He was discouraged by that line of thinking, and he was giving me reasons why maybe we shouldn't do that (saying we'd have to pull apart the wall to access the pipe, bring in another crew to do the demolition, no idea what they might encounter, etc.). He said he couldn't give me an estimate on the hot water fix - that he'd just have to start pulling stuff apart and there's no telling how involved it would be. He was upset by my resistance to the remodel. In response, he went into a spiel about how Stack Plumbing is built on a reputation of quality, with excellent customer satisfaction - a reputation so great that they don't even need to advertise. What he didn't know at the time, was that I found out about Stack Plumbing through an advertisement. That was definitely the last straw, and by then I just wanted him to leave. This all goes in stark contrast to our experience with another plumber, who we went through a similar process with, who listened with attention and focus to our problem, and gave us a well-thought-out fixed-price estimate on replacing the pipe, not trying to talk us into having a bunch of additional, unrelated work done. We're going to have the other plumber do the work, for sure. ** In response to the company's response, we brought in a plumber because we needed hot water in our bathtub - we were not asking for or needing a full remodel of the bathtub/shower. Neither our home inspector, nor the other plumber we brought in after our poor experience with Stack felt like the condition of the tub was requiring a replacement. Since our bad experience with Stack, we had another plumber come in and was able to focus on the actual problem, and fix it, without needing any of the extensive remodeling the Stack plumber suggested. We now have hot water and paid 1/5th of the price of what Stack was estimating for what they recommended. And they both charge the same for labor. I have no doubt Stack does good quality work - they just don't respect a budget. As for payment, I'm mailing the check today, 2 weeks after receiving the bill in the mail. It went into the "bill stack" and paying two weeks later doesn't quite make it delinquent. Dear Stack, if you feel that payment needs to be made by a certain date, you really should communicate that.**
Description of Work: I contacted Stack Plumbing because we bought a new house, and found out after we moved in that our bathtub is not getting hot water. We love taking baths, and have been unable to for a couple of months now. We were hoping they could diagnose the problem (or confirm our diagnosis) and fix it.

Response from Chipper Plumbing & Radiant
And now the rest of the story. The member purchased this home a number of months ago, knowing there was no hot water at the tub. This is an older home with galvanized piping. He had called wanting to know if we could help them. I had responded that we could try. When the journeyman arrived he attemped to back flush the system with no luck. He then proceeded to remove the cartridge, and with the members help tryed to flush the blockage out. This did not work either. The tub in on a outside wall, so to replace the piping to the tub valve into the crawl space the inside valve wall or the outside wall would need to be removed. Noticeing that the enclosure was in poor shape and there was alot of rust around the steel tub drain, the Tech suggested that replaceing the tub, valve and surround would be the way to go. The member then asked for an est. to do the work. He called the office and not knowing what was totally involved was given a rough est.. After the member was given the est., the member got in his face and asked him to leave. He has not paid us for the time we had trying to he them hot water and has indacated in his comments that he would have been better off calling another contractor they named. My suggetion would be that he should have called them first and the member would have realized our's was a very fair price. We never insist anyone does anything they don't want to do. We can only make suggestions as to what will help them........Jim Stack

Nothing really stands out about him and in fact the guy overcharged us for the bill by an hour like $125 over $135. He was kind of expensive. We have used other plumbers and we don’t think that we will use them again. Our general contractor told us that he knows a plumber who is less expensive for a toilet installation. He was kind of slow one day and there was another guy who helped him and he double charged. When he said that he would have a guy to help we didn’t know that and he actually double charged us. He was fine and the quality of work was good but he was expensive. Not only our general contractor but also other people told us that they overcharged us by $150. He did adjust the bill later. We didn’t have any problem with their work or anything only thing was that he overcharged us. He got here within four days. He was on time and professional. We would not use him again only because of his price.

The job done for the member was done in September, not October. I will not apologize for our charges. Our pricing runs in the middle of the plumbers in this area. I will not reduce quality to lower costs. We were on the job at the arranged time and did what the member asked. What the member is not telling you is there was more than removing and replacing two toilets. We also had to do flange repairs and make adjustments on the water lines to install their provided toilets. I did discount the labor to keep a happy member, but that didn't seem to help. Remember, anyone can do the job for less money after it's already been done. Had we just removed and replaced the toilets without making the necessary changes and there was a problem down the road, we would have been at fault. Regards, Jim Stack

Overall I was really happy it was not sewer gas. All my sinks are up to code and everything is running as it should. One tub seems to clog annually despite our efforts to catch hair before it goes down the drain. I'll have Stack out every time!
Description of Work: I thought I had sewer gas coming up in one bathroom as the city of Bothell confirmed, but it turns out it was just a dead rat. Stack was immediately sure, without a doubt, it was a rodent vs. sewer gas (after having the city out twice to look for leaks). Otherwise, Stack replaced three bathroom sink P-traps, fixed a leaky toilet, with new fittings, and snaked a clogged tub - fast, professional, and done right.

Excellent. Original quote was $550. Upon looking at path for water heater discovered that the line had to snake around the water heater to get to the crawl space. Required two plumbers for 3 hours to complete job, but they stuck to the original quote and did not complain at all. Fully installed my range, checked that everything was working, and swept up around the work area. Great experience, will use again.

I ended up hiring Stack plumbing for the job as I felt so much more comfortable with them than the other estimates, and scheduled the appointment on the day and time I requested the following week. They said the work would take 4 hours and that is what it took. They were clean and did the work for the estimated cost so there were no hidden fees or costs. I was very happy with their work and would recommend them highly. Lisa Musil
Description of Work: I contacted Stack Plumbing for an estimate to run a gas line into my laundry room to hook up a gas dryer and also an electric one. I found Mike (one of the owners) to be very professional when he came to inspect the job. He very very patient with all my questions and answered them fully. He also looked at a leaky faucet in one of the bathrooms and said it needed a new seal and fixed it.
