I have used Chimcare for multiple projects over the past year and they have completed the work well with one major exception. While cleaning our firebox in October, one of the tempered glass doors shattered. The technician took measurements and hardware to have replacement doors made. Over a month later, they were back to complete some follow up work - pressure washing the chimney exterior and sealing some cracks in the firebox. At that time they still did not have the replacement doors and claimed they should arrive within the next couple of weeks. In January, two months later, I had to call repeatedly to get a response on the status of the doors. Finally, they had a date and scheduled to bring the replacements out for installation. The night before the appointment, Chimcare called to tell me that the holes for the hardware were drilled incorrectly and that they needed to reorder. Another month has passed with no contact and no outlook for getting my fireplace doors or the hardware back. Needless to say, Chimcare has demonstrated poor responsiveness and total lack of priority for fixing the damage caused during their service more than four months ago. We have had limited use of our fireplace throughout the winter season and still cannot get reliable resolution. All the good work that Chimcare did in the past is irrelevant as we cannot rely on them going forward.

Response from Chimcare
We understand the customers frustration. All of our work was done as scheduled and to the customer liking. Everything we did for them was very satisfying. Our technician did accidentally break a piece of glass on the fireplace doors. The glass on these doors are heat tempered glass which is very expensive and hard to get. We transported the customers glass doors down to Portland Oregon to get them repaired and was at the mercy of this particular glass shop to order ( shipped from another state) and cut the glass to size so we could re-transport them back up to Seattle. Than once we finally got the glass doors and owner drove them back up to Seattle, our technician the night before starting installing the glass doors with the hinges only to find out the glass shop had cut the holes in the wrong spot. We than had to go through this process again of getting them transported back to Portland, the glass shop had to reorder the glass and we had to re-transport them back to Seattle. We wish we had a better way to replace high tempered glass, but unfortunately its a rare occurrence for them to break. We did take responsibility for the accident and did cover all expenses involved with getting the customers glass door replaced and reinstalled.

The service was good. Unfortunately they dumped some of the mortar that they used on my neighbor's lawn and he complained bout that. I didn't know about that. We were happy with the work but we were not happy with the cleanup. The scope of work was actually larger than expected. There was 1200 in addition to the big deal. They came out to patch the firebox but it turned out they had to rebuild it. I thought the price was competitive to what we looked at. I don't think we'll be using them again. I think they shouldn't have dumped their supplies on my neighbor's lawn. I thought that they do good work.
Description of Work: They had to rebuild the firebox.

Everything went well. They came out and repaired the grout and top cap. Then secured a tarp around the chimney to prevent water from damaging the repair. Then when grout had enough time to dry came back and sealed the grout. Had to come back again with chimney cap. They called and let us know dates and times. Very professional.

I found Chimcare through Angie's List and decided on the company after reading the reviews. The work ended up being more extensive than the estimate but the resulting product was well worth the cost, which I found to be very reasonable. Mark and Mason also did an excellent job of cleaning up after the job even though the weather was less than ideal. Both were very pleasant and professional and I would request them again for future work.

They were scheduled to come on a Thursday (I'd taken the day off work to be there) but we got a call at about 10am that they were short staffed and couldn't come until the next day and I didn't need to be there. The masons came the next day and completed most of the work with no hassle or fuss. They didn't have the chimney caps needed so they came back a few days later to install those. The masons were professional and fine to deal with when we did see them. The grass was a little mashed where they had placed the scaffolding but that was probably unavoidable given how wet everything was that week. Billing was supposed to be split into 3 sections (1/3 at scheduling, 1/3 at time of service, 1/3 30 days later), but masons didn't ask for payment at the time of service. I paid the final 2/3 when a business rep called me several weeks later. Overall it was a good experience and I'd use them again!

It all went very well completed in a day except for weather sealing due to weather. They will return for that when dry. The new chimney looks great and large selection of brick color/types to choose from. Smooth transaction. Only reason I put 'B' down for price is I did not do a lot of research before picking Chimcare picking based on Angie's list coupon but price seemed fair.

I bought an Angie's List deal for masonry work in hope of having a defunct chimney removed. The project turned out to be more complicated and expensive than I expected, so I decided not to have it done at this time and received a refund of the big deal price. I would not be inclined to submit a review under the circumstances, but Angie's List continues to request one, so here it is.

We wanted flashing repaired at chimney, which was listed on the deal. Company insisted on doing a complete inspection then submitting a proposal. Then they rescheduled twice. We called again to schedule just flashing repair. They again insisted on full inspection and submitting a proposal to us. By this time the rains had started! The next call was from them to apologize for no-show! We cancelled this deal and received a full refund.

The work was scheduled and confirmed to be done on my rental property 10-31-15. On 11-1-15 my tenant said they didn't show up. So I went out there on 11-4-15 and sure enough, no chimney cap even though they had full payment for this work. They never called me to tell me they had any problems. And as of 11-6-15, I still have not heard from them. But they have my money. So I called Angies List and Angies gave me a full refund. Maybe Chimcare had a scheduling problem or something??? A simple phone call would have avoided this bad rating.
Description of Work: I scheduled Chimcare to add a stainless steel top to a chimney on one of my rentals. It was paid for in advance because of Angies "Bid Deal" promo. Chimcare called back to confirm the date and all seemed fine. But the work did not get done and they did not call to explain why. But they had my money.

My poor chimney, with the flashing sticking out everywhere, dirt, and some moss, looked like it should be torn down. Now it looks brand new! Mike came out, inspected the chimney, gave me a quote, and the work was done the next day. They brought the wrong size chimney cap and had to come back the next day, and then sent me the invoice. I was actually quite surprised they didn't expect payment that instant, like most service providers do. I would highly recommend Chimcare.

The two masons, Mark and Steve, worked very hard and were conscientious in seeing the work was performed properly. Can't say enough about them. Ryan showed up on a Saturday to install the stainless caps during a hard rain. Both of our chimneys now look great, where they were previously eyesores. Only downside was the 5 week wait to get the project started, but it was certainly worth it. Michael was our initial contact and he provided a competitive work proposal after inspecting both chimneys. Overall, very nice people to deal with.
Description of Work: Chimcare rebuilt a smaller chimney (family room) up from the roofline with new matching brick, including flashing, crown and cap. A larger chimney (living room) was checked and minor repairs made to the top and crown. Large chimney was power washed. Sealant applied to both chimneys. Stainless caps installed on both chimneys.

Despite having used a competitor to tuck point my chimney less than 10 years ago, it needed additional work. I contacted that other company and they gave me a bid over $700. Right about the same time I saw the Chimcare offer of $500 of work for $250. I was skeptical, but decided to give them a try. After the estimator arrived I was pleased to learn that their total bid was only about $40 more, plus tax, so I gave them the go ahead. Note I did not need the chimney cap, so they threw in free waterproofing. On the day the work was to be done they called to say another job was running late, and that they would be to my house sometime after 1:00. By the time they called to say they would not be here, it was rather obvious, but they did show up very early the next morning and completed the work the same day. Overall the work looks good, and the crown coat comes with an 8 year warranty. Their worker spent a considerable amount of time doing the work and cleaned up well behind himself. I asked their worker about the prior work, and whether most the work was necessary just because the chimney was several years older. He indicated that to some extent was the case, but that some of the prior work had not cut out enough old mortar. One thing that had not occurred to me is that they would need to run water off my roof to clean away the material they cut away. Because of a recent windstorm my gutters were not completely clean of fir needles, so their worker had to clean out near the chimney so the material could pass. If they had said something I would have taken care of that because it was on my list of things to do. My only other warning is that they do request a 50% deposit on any additional charge. So even though I paid $250 up front they wanted an additional amount of almost $40 prior to the work being started. Not a bid deal, but slightly inconvenient to have three separate charges for one job, particularly when the initial payment of $250 was about 75% of the total cost of the job.

I waited several weeks for an appointment. The appointment was later pushed out an additional week to September 26. I was not concerned about this because they had generously agreed to come out on a Saturday. The tech came out to look at the problem. He seemed very knowledgeable and helped diagnose the problem with my chimney. I was told that he would talk to his manager about possible solutions. By mid-October, I had not heard back from them so I emailed them to ask if there was a proposed solution. They apologized and said they'd get back to me, in all likelihood by the next day. That was four days ago, and still no word. At this point, even if they respond, I'm hesitant to hire them. This wouldn't be much of an issue if I didn't have to now start from scratch, identify another company, and walk them through the issues again. Who has that kind of time these days? My overall assessment: Nice people, but an unreliable company.
Description of Work: Chimcare came out to look at possible water leakage from my chimney on September 26. After the initial visit, there was no follow-up from them about a possible solution.

The young man called to actually move up my appointment time, which rarely happens. He was very nice and did a wonderful job. He set up tarps in the living to catch any debris he might loosen from the chimney. He inspected the outer chimney and did a great job cleaning the inside. Once he was finished he vacuumed up all the areas in my living room where the tarps were placed. He explained everything he did and found concerning the outside and inside of chimney. My only issue is the price. I bought this deal with the hopes that the chimney cleaning would be covered under the deal. Evidently all the cost was not because I still had to pay over 200 dollars for the service. I guess next time I will ask before hand about additional costs so I am not surprised at the end when I have to pay more.

The new trainee was prompt, pleasant and hard-working. He hadn't had experience with our insert and I had to look up the manual to get a baffle off so that he could access the chimney. It was a good learning experience for both of us. They returned to do the mortar work and were prompt, quick and clean. They even helped by removing the larger branches from a fir tree that had landed on the roof after a recent windstorm.

The owner, Jesse, responded promptly to my inquiry. Scheduled the work for Monday the following week. His representative Ryan, was personable, careful, and thorough. Vacuumed the debris including the smoke shelf area. Noted our masonry cap and its brick facing needed repairs. Reported that some portions of the chimney had glazed creosote that resisted brushing. Prepared an estimate for treating the glaze with powder. There was no up-selliing, nor were there change orders/extra expenses. Completed the job in about an hour.
