You have to contact the keyless department by email. I emailed twice and called twice. I heard nothing. It was only after I had a competitor scheduled - two weeks later - did Bulger finally reach out to me and happily offer to install the keyless lock for $525 to $575. The competitor, who is also highly ranked on Anglie's List, only charged me $169, was immediately responsive, and was at my house in a couple of days.

Great. On time, and was also given quotes and options for more secure locks, as I had also requested. Even though I didn't go through with the upgrade, it's clear their professionalism is real and would hire again in future when I upgrade.

They were late by 1 hour even though they had 4 hour window . It means you need to be at home for almost whole day. I called earlier in the morning to ask is it more likely to be close to the end of the 4 hour window but they refused to answer. So I waited 4 hours at home without going anywhere and they were late by one hour. Not only that the technician did not know I needed garage remote key even though I told them last week when I made a service appointment. He said he could do only doors now and he called the office, and the office said they ordered the garage key so the technician need to write down the code and they will code the key in their office and send the key by mail. I think that's a security issue, so I declined the service today. I am not sure what happened to the company. Last tile when I sled them for service call appointment, job was done perfectly...

Poorly, I had used Bulger in the past and found their service very good, if a little pricey. This went so badly, I'll not use them again.
Description of Work: We contacted Bulger in early October to install a keyless front door lock. When I didn’t hear from them in three weeks, I went to their store to inquire. I was told that the manager wanted me to pay for the lock before they would order the parts. I had them run my credit card. Two weeks later, not having heard anything, I went back. I was told the lock had just come in. I made arrangements for them to install the lock later that week. They agreed to come next Thursday morning. I waited Thursday morning and, not having heard from them, went to the store. I was told that they had written “the morning of the 18th,” which was Friday. I asked if they could come Thursday afternoon and was told they would. Well, they didn’t come on Thursday. I figured they would come Friday morning. At noon, I went to their store and asked for my money back. They gave me my money back and said they had called repeatedly. There were no calls and no voicemail messages. Nobody else seems to have trouble reaching my number. I then called a second locksmith who ordered and installed the lock the next day – Saturday.

Able to get same day service on a weekday but not told it would cost $100.00 just to show up. No window of time for repairman possible - sometime that day. I live one mile from store. Diagnosis: my standard ordinary lock not repairable. No replacement lock in truck. Need to find a lock somewhere myself or repairmen will put something into existing lock to turn it into a decoration only! I am not making this up. Later repairman finds a lock in truck. Cheap looking, flimsy and ugly. Turned out later not to have a brand name or guarantee. But I told him to install it anyway because I was stuck with it. Then I checked it. (He hadn't). Did not work. Frozen. After this was fixed, by his partner, I checked the key. It didn't work either. Partner blamed my key, which had worked with old lock! Able to persuade him to fix it so it would work in this lock too. Asked for senior discount and repairman agreed. Presented with bill for $241.00! Later noticed no senior discount given. (the frosting). Charges - $40.00 for lock, $40.00 to key it, $100.00 for 2 mile RT, rest for time. Next morning checked locks at Fred Meyer and Ace Hardware. Lock installed looked like $10.00 locks in both stores, but they had guarantees and brand names. FYI - Ace charges $7.00 to key a lock when you buy one. Great to know! Visited owner at Bulger. He felt charge was reasonable!! Agreed to substitute another better quality lock. Later this turned out to have no guarantee either. I called him to get brand name (needed if a part were ever necessary). He gave me a written guarantee for work and materials for one year. Normal guarantee is 60 days for work only with this company. I appreciate effort to modify situation. I had put stop payment on check. That probably helped. I spent two days on this and lost a night's sleep in addition to astonishing cost! This should have been a 30 minute job door to door for the company, since it is rated as excellent. I have had lock work in the past and have never had anything like this experience or cost, even on emergency calls, which this wasn't. An apology at least would have helped.

Hi [Member name]. We are sorry you had a negative experience and appreciate the feedback. There are too many lesser quality mailboxes available on the market. The heavier-duty commercial-grade mailboxes we are comfortable offering unfortunately carry a premium price tag; these boxes nearly always get undercut by a lesser-expensive models. We try always attempt to explain our mailbox policy over the phone. We very rarely provide mailboxes (or even quotes) anymore. Sorry for the miscommunication which lead to your negative experience. I will be sure to do my diligence and remove mailboxes from our AngiesList list of services. We have shifted our focus to better protect homes, businesses, and complexes. If you or your community are ever looking to upgrade your locks or security we would love to opportunity to change your mind about us. Thank you for your time! Sincerely, -Jeff Bulger

I needed a fast rekeying after an old key disappeared under dubious circumstances. I called them in the middle of the afternoon, and they were able to give me an appointment for first thing the next morning. Three locksmiths showed up right on time. They did a very good job, and corrected a couple of existing problems with the locks in the process. The new keys work great, and I thought the price was very reasonable considering the scope of the job and the speed of their response.

Upon purchase of a new house, I wanted to replace the deadbolts with high security Medico deadbolts that can't be picked, drilled, busted open, etc. These deadbolts cannot be found at Home Depot, Lowes, etc. (which have the same keys every 5-6 deadbolts on their shelves) and are, like I previously mentioned, high security. Only Bulger Safe and Lock can duplicate my house key, and only after verifying my ID and signature (or my wife's) on file. The technician was of the utmost professionalism, which I grade heavily on after working in the trades for years. Granted, the only thing that could've been better is the price. However, the cost of better security is easily offset by peace of mind...

It might seem odd to write a review for just having made a purchase of a lock, but what preceded that purchase was sooooo frustrating it's worth writing a review for Bulgur. Our locking mailbox (in a bank of 10 mailboxes including locking parcel delivery bins and an outgoing mail slot) was provided by the USPS after we and neighbors experienced mail theft about 10 years ago. A little over 2 weeks ago our keys wouldn't fit fully into the lock so we could not access our mail. Since the mailboxes are about a block away from our house (and not visible from the house), we couldn't just wait for the postal carrier to happen by, open the entire set of boxes and give us our mail (plus, much more easily remove the lock from the inside of the box). We left a note on the mailbox. Almost a week went by. Heard nothing. Called Bothell P.O. First person I spoke with was very rude. Did inform me the lock is our responsibility. They could have a maintenance person look at it and replace it for $65. She was to call me back. Never heard from her. Called again a few days later. Spoke with someone much more pleasant, but the message was essentially the same. However, the and quot;oneand quot; maintenance person for all of Mill Creek, Bothell, Kenmore, etc. was gone for the day and would be on vacation for two weeks. We could stop our mail and pick it up at the Post Office, wait for their person to return and be available, or have the lock replaced by a locksmith. Sigh... I checked Angie's List, called Bill's (good recommendations), but he wasn't available right away and referred me to Bonafide. Left a text message for Bonafide from the Angie's List site---never heard from anyone (and I allowed two more work days). Knowing this lock replacement was going to cost somewhere in the $100-$200 range (which seemed absurd), I went on YouTube and watched several and quot; How to Replace a Mailbox Lockand quot; videos. Not too tough. Just drill through the lock until it popped off --- and wait for the people going by in cars on busy Juanita Drive to call the police on me for tampering with the US mail delivery. I was able to educate an amazing number of people that, once the Post Office puts up one of those boxes, you're on your own! Since they open the entire set of mailboxes at once, they don't care what key you have because they don't need it, anyway. Supposedly the replacement locks are available at many hardware stores, but I found they often have to be ordered online for pick up in the store or delivered via the mail. Now, the latter option certainly was not going to work! So, after stopping at an Ace Hardware store and the Lake City Post Office (where, by the way, the workers were much more pleasant than most of my Bothell PO experiences---and I told them so), I went down the road to Bulgur's. It was a busy place! Apologies were made for them not being able to help me immediately, but they would as soon as they could. I saw at least 5 employees waiting on other people, grinding keys, etc. ---no one standing around. They sold me my lock (more expensive than had I ordered one online, but I at least had it in my hand) and they even explained the replacement process with an extra tip to be sure the bolt on the back is screwed on tightly---and I was off to replace my own lock. I was hoping to do this totally independently, but had to have my husband help with drilling out the lock because our cordless drill seemed to be rather powerless (even though the batteries were fully charged). Success! By the way, I did finally get a call from the maintenance man at the Bothell PO. He was very pleasant and apologized for it taking so long for this communication to occur. He truly was getting ready to go on vacation for two weeks (but indicated there really was more than one person who does that job). Told him thanks, but that I was going to replace the lock myself. Thanks, Bulgur!

Great, quick response via e-mail then by telephone. I had them swap out locks and handles for our exterior doors, which required some drilling and other skills beyond my comfort level. I was able to get a same-day appointment, given a three hour window, and got a courtesy call about 25 minutes before tech arrived. Gene came to the house and took care of everything. He was efficient, vacuumed after he was done, and hauled away the old parts. I'd use Bulger again in the future!
