I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service. Actually the service and the product were excellent. They came out, assessed it and then installed it. We were very happy to have the special from Angie's List applied to that. They had the perfect solution for our needs. If we need to have something done with our heating service or any other services that they offer we would call them first.

Trying to find a heating and air conditioning company that will work on a boiler was a little more difficult than I thought. I have used Brennan Heating before so I gave them a call - yes! Brennan was easy to set up an appointment, they arrived on time, diagnosed the problem and gave us a quote. The employee ordered the part and set up another appointment to fix the boiler. Again, the employee arrived on time. The estimated time was 4 hours but he was done in about 3 hours and the work was outstanding. I recommend Brennan Heating for any boiler maintenance or issues.

Ordered new switch box.. Came back and tried to install it. Did not work. Took box back. Ordered new part. No contact for a while. Weeks went by. i called twice. Service said they would look into it. Never got back. Called again. Same. Never got back to me. I called again and requested to speak with a manager. i did. I said I need the service that day or I would cancel the order. He was was helpful and assured me it would be taken care of. He looked into it. Service called me back, left message. Got back to them within an hour. Said she was working on it. She called again and had a time that day. We arranged it. Part was installed that day without any difficulty. Evidently the first tech did not have the training to find the problem. The second one did. I would suggest when you assess the companies you do that you carefully assess the amount of training provided by the company for its technicians. That's the key to quality service. How well is the company training its employees. And evaluating the effectiveness of the training. That is the key to any business that is interested in providing quality service. Too frequently, employees get the blame for poor quality. But its the employers responsibility to provide training and then to evaluate the effectiveness of that training. Kudos for the manager who helped me at Brennans. Also the attentiveness on the part of Renee who once the manager talked to her, she saw that the job was completed. It was easy to tell also that the second technician on the job was better trained than the first. Or, at least that's how I as a customer saw it. There is no category in your review for fixing a problem. All companies have some problems with customer service. Brennans gets high marks for fixing the problem. Of course, the real challenge of quality service is to fix the problems before they occur, to keep the customer from seeing any problems at all. Because once that perception sets in, the whole quality program is affected.

After calling 2 other business' for service on our broken gas furnace and being told it would be AT LEAST a month before they could get to us, we phoned Brennan for help. Jason came out the following week and knew within 5 minutes what the problem was. He also told us our furnace is very old but didn't press us to invest in a new one just yet . . . let this one run its course but there will always be a weaker link showing up!! Jason ordered the part and the following week Adam came and installed it. Runs great and all work was done before the other companies could have even looked at the furnace!

Brennan did a terrific job. We needed a gas pipe installed to a new range (the old range was electric). I called about 10 different vendors, including all of the highly rated ones on Angies list. Brennan came out and quoted me the cheapest price by a wide margin. I had to reschedule the service date a number of times due to delays in the delivery of the range. Brennan was very flexible and accommodated the changes. They came out and did a great job and charged us the quoted price. They even waited several hours for the city inspector who never showed up. A couple of weeks later I realized the downdraft vent we purchased would not fit behind the range due to the location of the gas nozzle. I called Brennan and asked if they could come back and move the nozzle a few inches. I assumed they would charge me for the work; after all, it was our fault for not having figured this out when they came out the first time. They came back out, put in about an hour of work to drill a new hold and move the nozzle - and did not charge us a thing! Couldn't say nicer things about the company and their employees. I would use them again in a heartbeat if needed. One final note: when Ryan from Brennan came out the first time to provide the quote, I also asked his opinion on moving our furnace and vents. We just purchased the house and the furnace was located in an exposed area and the vents ran along a low ceiling in a hallway - making the space seem pretty claustrophobic. Another heating company, one that our contractor recommended, had come out a week before to provide a recommendation and quote on re-locating everything. They recommended moving the furnace to the back corner of the house and running the vents along the side of the house. They also recommended replacing our furnace with a new, more efficient one (with my contractor nodding his head in agreement at everything the guy said). The quote was ridiculous (+$15K) but when Ryan came out, I told him what the other vendor recommended and asked him for his thoughts. He laughed and told me no heating vendor in good faith would move a furnace to the corner of a house. In order to distribute heat efficiently, furnaces have to be located in the center of the house - where ours was located. He recommended a few logical and inexpensive cosmetic things we could do to make the area more presentable. And he also laughed when I asked him about replacing our furnace. He said it was an 80% efficient model, more than adequate for our needs. And he said that it was 15 years old and would be fine for another 5 to 10 years. Suffice to say I ended my relationship with the contractor! I expect contractors and vendors to exploit ignorance, recommend useless changes and provide inflated quotes. So when you find one that is actually honest and looking out for you, it's actually surprising! I am very thankful we called Brennan!
Description of Work: Brennan Heating installed a new gas pipe to our range. The pipe had to travel about 15ft from the gas meter outside our house, through our garage and then up through the ceiling to the kitchen and our range.

This was a very disappointing experience. I cannot recommend Brennan to anyone. The technician was supposed to diagnose a problem with my water heater. I had called with concerns that: (1) The pilot light was going out regularly; I had replaced the thermocouple, but this did not seem to solve the problem (2) When the pilot light went out, gas continued to flow [dangerous!] Because I was not going to be home when the technician arrived, I left detailed notes with the Brennan dispatcher. The technician either did not get these notes or did not read them, because when he arrived he simply turned the gas back on and re-lit the pilot , which I had intentionally left off due to the aforementioned gas concern. He was about to leave when my wife called me and had him speak with me on the phone. His diagnosis of the problem was that there was a leak inside the water heater, and that we should replace it. He came to this conclusion because he heard a water drop inside hit the burner plate. This is actually caused by condensation, and is perfectly normal behavior when firing up the heater from a cold state, but apparently the technician didn't know that (I learned it by reading the water heater's manual). So instead, he recommended we buy a new water heater. He did nothing to address my concern that the pilot was going off and spewing gas everywhere. I later determined that the gas only ran for ~45 seconds after the pilot went out, which is apparently correct functioning of the thermocouple --- it takes up to a minute to cool down enough to shut off the gas. The technician could have tested this by playing with the gas control unit (how I did it later), and he could have explained all of this, but he did not. This whole thing cost me $100 in service, and we actually BOUGHT A NEW WATER HEATER to replace the one he told us was leaking. In the meantime, I realized that he was wrong, and our current water heater has been operating just fine for two weeks --- once it's warmed up, the condensation drips stop, and the pilot stays on!
Description of Work: Technician was called to diagnose a problem with my water heater. Instead, he incorrectly diagnosed the problem, re-lit the pilot light, and charged me $100 for five minutes of work.

We did send a service tech out to the [member name removed] residence but we have a different take on the service call. We arrived at the residence to a older water heater not working. The home owner had already replaced parts in the water heater. Our tech cleaned the pilot assembly kit and fired up the water heater. He was there for 30 minutes to make sure everything was operating properly which it did. While there our tech noticed a problem with his furnace which is were the gas smell was coming from, we also noted to the home owner that his condensate pump was bad which was one of the issues with his furnace. [member name removed] let us know he could fix his furnace himself so we discussed what he should do and left it. Our tech is extremely knowlegable and experience and does understand what condensation is and is the one who described it to him. We did recommend a new tank which he said he could do himself so we drooped it. Once again, we watched the water heater operate flawless for 30 minutes, noted the issues with his current furnace and wrapped up the call. [member name removed]was not at the house when we were there but we did discuss everything on the phone with him while we were there. Our recommendation was to replace the old tank and have a ceritied tech work on the furnace. Thanks

We do not send service technitians out to a house to bid a service fix for free. I do not know of any company in our industry that does. We do offer free estimates if you are in the market for a furnace replacement and will send out a consultant at any time that fits your schedule. We have received an F for being honest and up front and not trying to send out a service tech and then hand you a bill. There is high percent of service diagnostic trips that can be fixed without replacing parts. We do need to charge for the time to get a service person to your house to determine what is wrong and get your equipment working if we want to stay in business. Thanks for reading my response.

I thought the workman was going to drain the water heater and then inspect it. I was confused. The water heater was drained for a little bit but never completely or the elements would have burned out. My only dissapointment in the whole purchase was that I was charged tax after the worker came out and did the work. I thought I had paid for the whole thing. No other advertisement has charged tax after I paid Angie's list for the service.

(Member name removed) did purchase a big deal furnace special from Angies List. When reviewing the write up for the Big Deal it specifically states that this price is for a furnace replacement but does state that it does not include extra work if the current furnace is out of code. (Member name removed) has a furnace installed in a bathroom which is 100% out of code. We did not install his existing furnace or build the bathroom around it. Why we are receiving a D for pointing out his code violation is beyond me. The code is there for a reason and his current situation should be fixed and brought up to code. (Member name removed) is upset that we won't fix his current issues for free even though it clearly states that these fixes will not be included in the offer. He was able to receive a 100% refund on the special but thought he could pressure us into spending an extra day at his residence for free for fear of a negative review. I hope our outstanding record with Angies List and the extremely high percentage of A's and B's will show we do business the right way. We did offer an extremely fair add on price to rectify his current issues but like I noted, he thought he could pressure us into performing work for free by threatening a bad review. I hope I have explained this situation to your satisfaction. Thanks for taking the time to read my response.

I purchased the "New Lennox Furnace" coupon deal from Angie's List. The company sent a representative to check out the installation site and discuss details regarding the furnace model features and related details. Once the installation details were in place and the date set, the two-man team arrived on time and got right to work. The guys were very pleasant and easy to communicate with. They were very skilled and did the job done efficiently and professionally. They also did a nice job cleaning up the work area when they were finished. All in all, I feel they did an excellent job, so I am very pleased and would hire them again.
