Upon inspection they indicated that I had a cracked heat exchanger and they had to shut down the furnace until repaired and disabled it. They ended up doing no work and simply gave me a bid for replacing the furnace. I had another company come in a inspect the furnace and said the heat exchange did in fact have a slight crack but nothing dangerous or requiring immediate disabling of the unit. I proceeded to get bids on a new furnace and found bids significantly less than Brennan's. I believe that Brennan was using this service to find opportunities to scare homeowners into replacing furnances at uncompetitive prices. I would never have them do service for me again.
Description of Work: The Company offered a furnace annual service and cleaning for $65.

Brennan hasn’t won the awards that we have in customer service by using scare tactics to convince consumers to purchase. We have over 300 reviews on Angie’s List with an A Rating. Safety and quality are the priority. Our policy is to shut down the furnace when there is a cracked heat exchanger. We do everything we can to keep our prices as competitive as possible while still offering the best most thorough service in the industry. You can always find someone to do it cheaper.

Overall the inspection and cleaning was done quite well.
Description of Work: This was and Angie's list deal purchased for $68 to have a post season furnace inspection. My friends usually spend around $100 - $125 for this service from other companies before fall/winter starts. The technician was professional, gave good recommendations, and was easy to talk to. He did a vacuum of the furnace, and a full inspection (haven't had one since furnace was installed 6 years ago). He answered all my questions thoroughly. I would do business with this company again.

Brennan was very prompt, their quotes were reasonable, and all the employees I worked with were very nice . I trusted that the work was done properly, but when I started to have maintenance issues with their work later on, I found out that their work was careless and sloppy. They did not insulate the pipes for radiant heated floor, so the crawlspace area was being heated along with the floor. They installed 2 zones for the radiant heating but did not put in any controller for the second zone. What they did was connect the second zone to the first, making it really just one zone, though I paid extra to have 2 zones. I recently noticed the upstairs ac was not working properly & flies were coming out of some of the vents. I had someone check the ductwork, thinking that one of them must have opened up and had them check the fan unit since they were up there already. They found the paperwork for the system INSIDE the fan unit, which of course was obstructing the air flow & making the system work inefficiently. They also found that NONE of the ductwork was sealed at all. So now I have to pay to get that fixed. I have used Brennan for just these 2 jobs at different times. To have this kind of shoddy work both times may be a coincidence, but I will never use them again or recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Brennan installed a second floor AC unit and, about 1 year later, installed radiant heating in a first floor addition and a mudroom renovation.

We have won all the awards because this is not the kind of work we do. We would love a chance to come out and review the system. We guarantee all of our work and will stand behind the work we have done. In our industry there are companies that will create issues and blame the previous company to get work. I am not saying this is definitely what happened but we would like to review the job and fix any problems. We are not the type of company that will charge a homeowner for a certain system and then install a different type of lesser quality. We never want a past customer that used us twice to have such negative feelings and will work hard to rectify the situation or explain the system we have installed.

They did a great job and there was no dislike. They were there when they were supposed to be and took away all the old stuff and didn’t make a mess. Whatever mess they did, they cleaned it up.
Description of Work: I used Brennan Heating & Air Conditioning about 4 years ago. They removed the old furnace and installed the new furnace and hooked it up. They also put in a new digital thermostat.

The in-home consult was quckly scheduled, pleasant, concise, and very specific to our needs. We learned of an energy loan through a local credit union that made the purchase extremely affordable, and was a seamless process to coordinate with Brennan. The installers arrived a few minutes early, were diligent about completing their work, and did a fantastic job of fashioning new sheet metal ductwork in a space that was very challenging.

I was very disappointed and unsatisfied. I really felt he should of called in someone that knew what they were doing from his company. He could not fix the problem so he gave me bad advice. Since, I later found a service-man that did replace the part and made my furnace as good as new.
Description of Work: The service-man came out and took my furnace apart. He was unable to fix or clean the thermo-coupling and pilot light. He ended up recommending I replace my furnace. He quoted me a price of $2400 for replacement and installation. I paid $68.00 for nothing.

The $68 was a pre-paid general maintenance with Angie’s List. The special was for a tune up not a service call on a broken furnace. If we were aware that the wall furnace wasn’t working we would have been able to tell the customer up front about the difficulty in finding parts so there would have been no surprises. When we showed up the furnace wasn’t working. We called Johnston supply for part availability and were told they could not get the part. We did leave a bid for replacement as our only option.

they have usually been a good company to work with ...must have been an off day
Description of Work: It was easy to make appointment for yearly maintainence gas furnace plus checked and adjusted ducting. The techician seemed pleasant and knowledgable. I watched and he tinkered around checking and testing things...but he only wiped the surfaces and brushed a few areas on the interior of the unit. He did not vacuum. And he did not give me a new filter! I told him that I had just replaced the filter and therefore wanted him to leave the new filter (that normally comes with the cleaning) with me so that I could install in a few months time. Perhaps there was some misunderstanding. One gets tired of the hassle trying to straighten things out.

The technician John was scheduled by a customer service person Lynai through email to come by between 10am~12pm on April 6th. I had asked Lynai to have the technician to call me about 30 minutes before his arrival because my baby could be sleeping - my baby only sleeps in the car these days so I wanted to make sure to transport the baby before the technician arrives. So I waited at home for over 2 hours between 10am~12pm. No calls, and no showing up of the technician. I emailed Lynai about "What's going on". My email was time-stamped at 12:07pm. About 15 minutes after I sent that email, John showed up. He was nice though no apologies of the tardiness. I let him into the garage to look at the furnace. I asked John what he was going to do with the furnace? He told me "everything". Then he opened up the front panel and told me he will take a look and clean it. As he opened the panel I saw the furnace is dusty. John ran his fingers on the outer edge of it and it is dirty. I told him to let me know when he's done, and went up stairs to take care of my baby. About 10 minutes later, I had just finished changing my baby's diaper and thought I'd go downstairs to see what's going on with the furnace. As I pull the door open, John was also about to open the door to talk to me. He said he had to turn off the both the gas & electrical switch to the furnace, because "there's a crack in the heat exchanger", which means the gas is leaking and we could be getting carbon monoxide poisoning in the house. By the time we're having this discussion he had handed me a yellow piece of paper (service order) quoted a price for repairing the furnace. The quote on the repair of the heat exchanger is: $1800.00 He continues to write up another white piece of paper with quotes on *replacing* BOTH the furnace and the water heater. (I had not ask for him to come and do anything with our water heater! Our water heater is totally fine and working.) He told me there's a CRACK on the heat exchanger. I asked him to show me. He handed me a skinny flash light and asked me to look at a "silver-color line" inside of the left heat exchanger -- he said that's the crack. I couldn't really tell what that is -- to me it looks more like somebody used a piece of white chalk and drew a line. So I asked to take a picture with my phone and show my husband. John told me after handing me that white piece of Proposal of new water heater & new furnace, that he can not go further with cleaning or doing anything else on the furnace unless I were to hire him to replace or repair the furnace. He said "sorry but I can't do more than this". I asked what about the certificate / coupon I already paid? I didn't get the service! He just said "sorry" again and left. I called my husband immediately after John left. I was very worried about the crack, even though it looks just like a white line to me. My husband told me we should get someone else to come take a look, if we need it replaced, we will. So hung up the phone, I called another HVAC company and they sent a guy Rob over that same afternoon. I didn't tell Rob about the crack, just said that I needed an estimate on a new furnace. Rob was very nice, very knowledgable. He asked me if I would like to have my husband on the phone so he can speak with us both. So I dial the husband have him on the speaker phone. Rob then basically gave us a run down about what you need to know before getting a new furnace. Before today I had read a big article online about Furnace so I knew what he told us was true. The quote he gave us was very reasonable. Then I asked him to take a look at our old furnace, because someone told us there's a crack in the heat exchanger. So Rob removed the front panel and look into it with the exact same skinny black-color flash light that John has from Brennan Heating. He said that's a rust that may become a crack down the road, BUT IT IS NOT A CRACK!!! He said I shouldn't be worried about getting any gas leaks in the house just yet. Rob was very nice and gave us more information about his company and brochures on the products he suggests us to replace with if we choose to. -- This was just a free estimate we asked from Rob's company, but he spent 30 minutes talking to us, without giving any pressure of hiring them. I called Brennan Heating on Thursday and spoke with Lynai about what happened the previous day and asked that I get money back. She said she'll call the technician and call me back. About 30 minutes later, John called (instead of Lynai). Both his and my phones were very static-y. He kept saying if I want the furnace repaired or replaced, he'll be more than happy to come back and give me that service. I said "what about the money I've already paid?" He said I could use that towards a new furnace if I like. I declined his offer. At the end he asked "so you just want your money back?" I said "YES!". He agreed he'll give my money back. After speaking with John, I called Angie's List and spoke with a man about my horrible experience with Brennan heating. He told me he'll note on my account and have someone else contact me about the next steps. I got an email from DeMarreo Campbell asking me to write a report here in order for any actions taken by Angie's List. PLEASE just get my money back! This was a horrible experience. I will NEVER buy any more pre-paid certificates or coupons from Angie's List again!
Description of Work: We bought the "Big Deal" coupon through Angie List for a Furnace check and Cleaning service. The technician was only at my place for 10 minutes or so and left without performing any cleaning on the furnace. I've asked John the technician at Brennan Heating to refund my $68 - he agreed. Then I called Angie's List and they emailed me back to tell me to write a "detail report" here. So here it is.

John B, the quality representative, checked the furnace completely (no heat for 3 days prior to our contacting Brennan) and found several problems including a large crack. The parts would total around $3000; a new hi-grade furnace $4500 after rebates. I elected the new. Their response time to the coldness in our home was immediate. The clean-up after installation was spotless. Brennan's representative and great installers were friendly, informative, knowledgeable. The experience from my initial call to completion was stupendous. I am very happy with Brennan and warm again. Thank you very much.

We were told by another contractor that we had a hole in our flex duct. Called Brennan's since they were recommended by a Seattle vendor and had great Angie's list reviews. Talked to Rick on the phone who was very polite and professional. He arranged service for the next business morning which was nice since our flex duct had a hole and was leaking warm air into the crawlspace. Jason arrived on time and they performed the work quickly and efficiently. He also inspected the rest of my duct system and found an intake pipe that had come loose and was sucking air from inside the crawlspace instead of outside. Reattached for another $50. He also explained how they attach flex duct and sounds like a very thorough process. I have confidence the areas they worked on are in good working order now and would use them again.

The technician was prompt, friendly, professional and knowledgeable. The servicing price was a Big Deal from Angie's List which was very reasonable however, the only servicing done was to tell me that my heat exchanger is cracked and I need a new furnace or a repair. I have now had 5 estimates, Brennan was the most expensive estimate by several hundred dollars and in two cases, over a thousand. I would trust their work but they are just too expensive.

It had been awhile (too long) since I had my gas furnace serviced. I purchased a 'Big Deal' Angie's list coupon for Brennan to come out and perform the work. The Technician that came out could not have been more professional. He was prompt and polite, and I would call Brennan again for service or repair in a heart beat! I'm hoping they come up with an annual service agreement plan! I may have got a 'good deal' on the coupon, but the service was top notch!

They did an excellent job. When I called the company for a bid, Karl Bogren was very prompt and responded the next day; another company I called could not respond for about a week. Karl was very knowledgeable and courteous in explaining his bid. Their two employees who performed the installation were also very professional and did an excellent job in installing the furnace and filter. The furnace has been working great. It was a pleasure working with the Brennan staff and I would highly recommend them to anyone considering installing a new furnace.
