It went very well. They were on time and very professional. We had bought a certificate from Angies list for a pre-season tune-up/cleaning and the tech told us he was doing that as part of this job. He advised us to get a refund.

My hot water tank is old and I don't have any clue what sort of maintenance I should be doing on it so haven't done anything. When I saw this Angie’s List deal for routine hot water tank inspection and maintenance for really cheap, I thought, oh that is perfect! I used them before for an Angie’s List deal for a routine furnace inspection and maintenance and they were fantastic. They were again fantastic for the hot water tank. He drained it, cleaned the burner thing, and actually showed me the stuff that'd collected on the burner plate over the years. He actually explained the whole thing to me, what he'd do, why he's doing it, how the thing works, etc. Normally part of this maintenance includes replacing the anoide (the big metal rod in the tank that is there to prevent the rust from attacking the tank itself), but he pulled it out and showed me it's still perfectly intact and didn't need to be replaced yet. All went well, he was professional, friendly and respectful of my property as he drained and refilled the tank. He cleaned everything up really nicely and put back the hose and everything. Every time I use this company they're fantastic.

I’ve used them before for Angie’s List deals on routine maintenance and they are always wonderful, so I asked if they could come out and take a look. They checked the breaker first and found it was switched off. They were really nice about it, didn't make me feel dumb, and they still took a good look at the a/c just to be sure everything else looked ok. The guy was very knowledgeable, talking about how things work and so forth. I was pretty sure the breaker was still off from when we had to turn everything off to do something a little while ago, but since there's the possibility that the a/c itself could have tripped the breaker and maybe there is something wrong with it he warned me of that and said if it trips again just call them out. It worked like a charm all summer long and never needed to call them back.
Description of Work: Service call to see why my a/c wasn't kicking on.

This was my first time using this company. My furnace is pretty old and I know nothing about what needs to be done for routine maintenance so when I saw this Angie’s List deal I jumped on it as it was an opportunity to get the furnace serviced but also for me to learn about what maintenance is needed on a furnace and how often it's needed. The guy was perfect. He was professional, on time, friendly, and very knowledgeable. He was meticulous and opened the thing up and did all the cleaning of various parts. He worked on it for a while; it was great. I really felt like I got a lot of value out of this service. I will definitely use this company again.

The exhaust blower disintegrated inside my old furnace. Brennan sent out a technician that morning, who inspected my furnace, and determined that the heat exchanger was rusted beyond repair; therefore, it made more sense to have a new furnace installed. They installed the new furnace that day, and even replaced the exhaust pipe to the outside, because it had been incorrectly installed originally. All work was performed correctly and cleanly, and my new furnace was blowing out warm air that afternoon. I was fully satisfied with the work done.
Description of Work: My old furnace was evaluated after the exhaust blower failed, my furnace was replaced with a new model, and the exhaust pipe to the outside was replaced.

The cleaning and inspection went well until the service representative announced that he had found a crack in the heat exchanger and that he would have to shut off the gas inlet to the furnace and leave me with no heat. He said that the crack could lead to carbon monoxide leaking into the house and kill me. He refused to leave without shutting off the gas. He gave me an estimate of approximately $600 to come back and replace the heat exchanger. I checked with a finger where he said the crack was and could feel an imperfection in the metal but no open crack. It may have been a manufacturing seam. After he left I turned the gas back on and researched the probability of a failed heat exchanger in this age and make of furnace. The research was inconclusive. A cracked heat exchanger was considered unlikely but not impossible. The cost quoted for replacement was in line with that of other companies. My problem was not knowing whether this was a real part failure or a scam on the part of the service representative to get more money for changing a perfectly good part. I decided to wait and monitor the situation since I have a new carbon monoxide detector in the house and I was confident that it would warn me if there was indeed a leak. It has now been 3/4 years since that service, the furnace has since been serviced by a different company, and there has been no indication of carbon monoxide buildup in the house. I am now confident that there is no crack in the heat exchanger. I have held off reporting my experiences with this company until now despite repeated noticed from Angies List to report because I cannot prove that this was a scam. I will however not use this company again and am reluctant to using Angies List Great Deals in situations where the company could be using the low price to gain access and boost their profit by claiming there are problems that require immediate and expensive repairs.
Description of Work: Gas furnace was cleaned and inspected. Work was performed using an Angies List Great Deals offer. The furnace was 13 years old and had been regularly serviced.

Response from Brennan Heating & Air Conditioning
I am sorry for the inconvenience but when we find a crack in a heat exchanger we take it very seriouse. We always state that there "is a possibility of CO coming thru the crack and into the house". Not every crack and furnace will immediately leak CO into a house but it sure can at any time which is why we turn off the gas and recommend fixing the problem or getting a second opinion. I am glad you have purchased some CO detectors just in case and I would still recommend action be taking on fixing the problem. Brennan Heating does not use this program to scam customers, if you own an older gas furnace this is what happens, thru expansion and contraction the HE's will eventually crack and need to be addressed by fixing or replacing the furnace. We have won all the customer service awards in our industry and we have done that be doing what is right by our customers. If we find a crack we do not look the other way, we show the homeowner and give all options in writing without hard pressing the homeowner to make an instant decision. I would be happy to send a tech back out to review your furnace at any time and at no charge to once again check out the crack and discuss the potential issues of not adressed. Thanks for you time, Eric.

The technician was prompt and courteous. This was a $68. special to inspect, change filters, and clean the furnace. Naturally, the technician sadi that the furnace was old and should be replaced. We were in the process of selling the house and to be proactive, we wanted to get an inspection and have the filters changed and stuff cleaned. Th technician did not spend very long on the job. This was only $68., so obviousily the hope is to sell you a new furnace. When we did get an offer on the house and the buyers had an inspection, the inspector said the furnace ducts we very dirty and that the furnace needed to be serviced. So, I don't know if things got serviced properly by the $68. special. It is always possible that the buyer's inspector was not being fair.

They did come all the way out to Camano Island, which I appreciated, and the Angie's deal for HVAC service was cheap at $60. On the downside, the tech did not seem to do much of anything when he was here. He replaced my furnace air filter, which I had recently replaced, with one that he had to fold in half to make fit. He took a very brief look at my heat pump, which I explained was not spinning and was making a loud buzzing noise. He did not look at the mechanical parts, but did briefly test the power to the unit. He told me I needed to get 240 Volts to the unit and then he left. He also told me two of the three thermostat units in my house were there simply to measure the temperature, and not to control it, despite their array of programming and other controls. It turns out one is for the furnace/blower, and two are for propane fireplaces. I would think something like that would be more obvious for a HVAC tech, though I understand the difficulty of walking into an unknown setup. I felt he was facetious and condescending much of his visit, which was short. In the end, I wonder what the HVAC service deal is really supposed to buy you? A new air filter? I am less concerned about the money than the time I lost scheduling this service. The reason for my delayed review is I had to get my electrician neighbor to take a look and then I went out of town for 3 weeks. The electrician replaced a fuse, and the new one immediately shorted out. He concluded the problem was with the pump drawing too much power. I called back the company to explain that the initial tech had not done any troubleshooting, and power to the heat pump looked good until it blew the fuse. The woman answering the phone said she would talk to the tech and get back to me, but never did. The lack of effort the first visit, and the company's failure to get back to me as promised, are the primary reasons for my poor review. The tech's unprofessional attitude did not help. It is somewhat challenging to schedule contractors out here on Camano. When someone comes, I would hope they would take more of an interest in getting me up and running. I am happy to spend more money for better service. In retrospect, expecting any significant help for $60, which included the tech's driving 2 hours round-trip, was folly on my part. $60 for this "deal" is too good to be true, in my opinion.
Description of Work: Angie's HVAC service deal. Nobody lived in this house for 3 years before me, and I needed someone to help me figure out why the heat pump was not working. Tech replaced air filter in furnace, and spent 5-10 minutes troubleshooting the heat pump.

I am sorry for the confusion but when at the residence we let the homeowner know there was not adequate power ran to his outdoor unit and we wrote it on the invoice. We let him know that when it was repaired we would come back out and finish the job with no additional expense. He told us he would talk to his electrician and get it fixed. We did do a complete maintenance on his indoor unit but did nothing to his outdoor unit because of the power issue. We will be happy to send our tech back out after the proper repairs have taken place. Thank you.

I had to wait 4 weeks for an available appointment. Once I got a technician out to my house he performed the maintenance however he didn't have the proper size air filter for my furnace. No problem. He said he would drop a couple off in the next couple days... two weeks later I have to call back again to get my air filters. I did finally get the filters dropped off but they didn't even offer to install in while they were there.

I made the appointment for a Friday afternoon. The technician arrived promptly and was very friendly. I don't know a lot about furnaces, but he went in and did some stuff. However, when he was done, he told me that he did not have the correct size filter for my furnace. He told me that I could just go down to a hardware store and buy one. My furnace filter is a common size. So, either he didn't properly stock his truck, didn't prepare for the appointment, or the company was too cheap to give me a filter. For what I paid, I feel like I should have gotten a new filter; I did feel slightly ripped off. I might hire the company again, but I wouldn't purchase this Big Deal again.

The technician was both thorough and knowledgeable. He told us our furnace needs to be replaced and offered a price of $10,000 to replace the furnace and hot water heater. I then proceeded to obtain two addittional estimates for Furnace installation. Both estimates were for approximately five thousand dollars. I was trying to decide which estimate to accept, when driving down the road, I saw a truck from a furnace company, with whom I had previously done business. So I the next day, I located their phone number and said I wanted a second opionion, explaining that I had been without a furnace for ten days, He came to my home six hours later, and disassembled my furnace. Explaining there is NOHTHING wrong with my heat exchanger, and that the evaporator box was gone, and needed to be replaced. He turned the furnace back on, guaranteeing it's safety because he took actual readings. He returned one week later, after the parts had arrived, and I accepted his recommendation, to also change the burner which which funcioning but on the old side at the same time. I paid About $700.00 and my furnace is functioning as good as ever. I did ask around and I was told, that the repair man looked at my model, and decided it was a problematic one, but actially the problmatic model, was three years younger than mine. I feel the repaman not only did not fully open up the furnace, and fully service it, according to the agreement he had with the Angie's list coupon, but I suspect his negligence was deliberate, because it is easier to sell a new funrnace than to service a furnace for $68. Either that or he was incompetant.
Description of Work: I purchased a sale coupon from Angie's list. When the workman showed up to do an annual service on my furnace, He spent at least ten minutes and informed me that my Heat exchanger and evaporation were not working and therefore my furnace was not safe, and that he WAS SHUTTING IT DOWN. He asked me to sign a document, stating that the furnace was not safe to use, and if turned it back on it would be at my own responsiblitly. He then provided me an Estimate for a NEW furnace of more than $5,500. I was left on crisp fall nights without heat, even though i am a senior with heart disease.

Response from Brennan Heating & Air Conditioning
I apologize you are not 100% satisfied with our service. Our company policy is to shut down any furnace when we find leaks and cracks in the furnace's heat exchangers. When we find these issues it does not mean CO is leaking into the house immediately but it can which is a very big concern of ours for safety reasons. Not every company views this issue the same way but most including the Utilities agree with us. On top of the condition of the furnace the unit is also 23 years old which is beyond the age we recommend spending much money on to fix. There are companies that only do service work and will do whatever it takes to keep your old furnace limping along, we like to discuss all options. I hope you were satisfied with the general maintenance we performed on your tankless water heater a month after we diagnosed your furnace. If you have any further questions please give us a call. Thank you and once again sorry you weren't 100% satisfied.
