I never hired Dan. Found him online and requested a quote. I provided pictures and dimensions. He emailed me back that he would contact me the following day to give me a quote. That was weeks ago. I had to call him for follow up and he claimed he was busy but he would get back to me. A week later, I called again and again he claimed he was busy. That was enough. I waited over a month JUST to get a response. Can't understand contractors who advertise for work, then when offered, they never call or follow up. Grade of "F" across the board.

It was finally time to remodel our 1989 master bedroom, closet and bathroom. We contacted 3 contractors from Angie's List and had all three come to our home, see the space and submit a formal estimate. Doug Ostlund the owner of Black Dog Custom Builders, LLC was the right fit for us because we were looking for someone that would be on-site at our home every work day, heading up the project and working closely and guiding us through all of the decisions that must be made on a remodel like this. Our project was completed 9/16/15 and we could not be more thrilled with the results and with our time spent with Doug and his crew. No matter how well you plan and prepare for a major remodel there will always be things that come up and changes that will need to be made. Doug is a master craftsman with great idea's and the skills and knowledge to execute a project. He's was also wonderful to have around our home. Doug is professional and courteous and cares about your home and pets. He cleaned up at the end of each day and left our home as neat as it could be during construction. Our bathroom was a gut job, eliminating the oversized jetted tub and moving a wall to increase the size of the closet. We used a combination of nature and man made stone, frameless shower glass, heated floors, custom shower with bench and multiple shower heads, double vanity, toilet and storage. In the bedroom we added paint, carpet, new doors, trim and baseboards. Doug's attention to detail was beyond my expectations and made our remodel extra special. Thank you for everything Doug!!!

Doug is a meticulous master craftsman and holds his subs to the same standard. He was largely able to self complete this project - remodeling a 1960s era house - with only excavation work, sheetrock and some tiling being subbed out. He was onsite 6 days per week, and we appreciated how he kept the work area tidy after each shift (important with 2 boys and a dog in the house). We added/altered scope items as the project advanced and Doug was a great partner as we worked through the project. As examples - Doug was able to come up with a method to retrim all the existing windows to the new design that we had requested on the extension without damaging the cedar siding. He mitered all the siding on the extension to look identical to the original (a dovetail finish that is not commonly found today) . He also hand fabricated all the cabinetry and paneling for storage in the new area to match the kitchen cabinets installed in 2010 by Kitchens Plus (you can't ltell them apart). Doug is personable, communicates well verbally and in written form. His invoices are itemized clearly and contain all backup. Would highly recommend Doug to any homeowner considering a remodel - take advantage of his experience!

The fence and gate look great! Dan got the permit and took care of the work very quickly. Great craftsmanship and professional work. The price included everything, new fence, demo of the old fence and permitting. Local people are so much better to work with than giant corporations!

Left a voice message and have yet to hear back from company (1 week). My voice mail described the project so I guess my job wasn’t good enough for them. Contacted three other HVAC companies and all return my call and quoted the project. Likely the easiest 800 they will make all year. My advice to Black Dog is IF you don’t want the business call the customer back and tell them.

As stated above, Doug has completed over 10 different projects in my home over the last many years. Each and everyone was completed on time and within budget.

Doug is the best contractor I've ever worked with. He's an expert as his craft, very professional, and fun to work with. He delivered incredible quality, at a impressively efficient pace. I'm convinced without Doug's lead and initiative on this project, it would not have been finished to the level of quality or schedule that was delivered. Doug is always thinking ahead, and on several occasions, he picked up on design oversights and inefficiencies then effectively communicated with the project team and worked out or provided near perfect solutions. When the project had a major curve ball thrown at it, Doug was on top of it and left an incredible story working though the situation. I would highly recommend Black Dog Custom Builders. The more creative and complicated the project the better.
