Bergman's Lock & Key

I've been using Bergman's since I was an apartment manager in 1983. Haven't used anyone else in decades. Today I needed a miracle -- a last minute re-key to turn over a commercial space (one of those forgotten items - oops). I E-Mailed Bergmans late Sunday night. They had Chris to me by 2:00 PM. So I thought over 3 decades of great work by Bergman's deserves at least an on-line review. They are excellent. Recommended without reservation.

Fantastic!! Cisco was very easy to work with and had us send photos of the locks in question ahead of time so he made sure he had the same fixtures to match. He came out in a weekend, the whole job was done in less than an hour, everything works beautifully and we are very happy with the whole process.

Because of the touchy nature of the situation, Bergman's had made it clear that if there was any kind of confrontation, they would leave and I would be charged for the visit. This was completely understandable and acceptable to me. I also had a neutral third party lined up from my real estate agent's office, to make sure there could be no complaints afterwards. I was scheduled for a window between 9am and 11am. I came to the house at 8:45am, and the ex-wife was still in the process of moving out. I didn't interfere, the situation stayed civil, I explained what I was planning to do, and I waited for the locksmith to arrive. By 10:45am, it took a phone call to Bergman's to discover that the locksmith was delayed at an emergency lockout, and would arrive in another 30-40 minutes. I certainly understand that things happen, but since I had a third party waiting for my call, it would have been nice to be notified when the delay was first known. The locksmith did show up within that additional window, and he was professional and courteous. There was a bit of scrambling on my part, as I tried to figure out how the ex would continue moving out while I changed the locks. We eventually agreed to have the locksmith re-key just the deadbolt, and leave the doorknob in place. This way, the ex could secure the door without worrying about being locked out, and I could later secure the door once she was done. The locksmith was quick and efficient, and refused to be sloppy. After putting the deadbolt back together, it mostly worked but something was binding. Rather than just pack up and run off, he took the time to disassemble the lock, determine the mistake he had made, assembled the lock correctly and made sure it worked flawlessly. Considering the nature of the service, and the potential for things to go wrong, I was very happy with the service provided by Bergman's and would call them again for any locksmith work without hesitation.

About noon on Saturday 1-19-2013, I discovered a destroyed lock to an important door containing valuable equipment for our condo. The vandalism occurred early morning Saturday. Many locksmiths too busy to come that same day (Saturday). Bergman came that same day, on time, 4 hours after my call and appointment-setting. Bergman did not charge weekend rate, even though this was Saturday. Bergman rep (Gabriel) was poised- allowed input from two people as part of the solution.

I said, "You saved my life!" He was very friendly, knowledgeable and very willing to help. He even takes off his shoes when he comes in. Cisco was a very polite young man!

They're great! Cisco is a genius and they don't come in and try to swindle you out of your money. They were on time and well serviced. I won't use anyone except them. I always ask for Cisco.

Cisco was very personable and communicative, polite and professional. In addition to rekeying five locks, he also did some drilling to fix the alignment of the locks on the front door. He called to tell me when he was coming, arrived on time, and spent a little over an hour fixing my locks.

They cut keys and help with any lock situation; they are fabulous. They are nice, helpful and friendly people who get the job done. I will use them again in the future.

Showed up on time, rekeyed two cylinders. One of these locks is now very hard to turn. One of the three locks I wanted rekeyed had to be replaced, and this took a long time and they had to come back on a different day. The service was not bad by any means, just nothing special about it. Other reviews I saw were very glowing, but for me they just did enough to be average or maybe a little below average. One of these locks is very tough to turn. And it seem to take a lot of time just to replace an old lock with a new one. I plan to try a diffent company next time.

I called on Thursday and their earliest available appointment was on Tuesday. I scheduled for their 11:00-1:00 time slot and Cisco arrived a little after 12:00. He re-keyed the four locks in about 20-25 minutes and provided me with two extra keys (beyond the two I had requested) free of charge. A great experience overall, though the price to re-key was almost the same as purchasing new locks from the hardware store. I didn't have to drive down to the hardware store and install new locks though, so I'm happy with the final result and would use Bergmans Lock and Key again in the future.

The door now closes perfectly and it's no longer sticky. He arrived on time and was fast, I would recommend them without hesitation.

Saw me the day after I called. Prompt. Gave me lots of information about my doors/locks. Very nice and knowledgeable man.

Called to make an appointment with list of locks to be rekeyed; appointment set to my availability. Was given price for rekeying specified locks. Locksmith arrived on time. Two deadbolts were hard to turn (not on my original list of things to do) and I requested that he check them out. One needed interior new part. Very knowledgeable person. Work area left cleaned up. I used them because of their rating on Angie's List and Better Business Bureau. Definitely will keep them on my preferred list of home repair companies.

I couldn't get my front door lock unlocked. The last locksmith apparently installed a very cheap lock and the internal workings feel apart as Gabe from Bergman removed it from the door. Gabe installed a new lock and cleaned up any mess that he made. Very professional. Unfortunately, they were scheduled to come yesterday and lost the booking in their schedule. They gave me a discount for delaying the work by a day.

I lost my whole bunch of keys, but I had duplicates to all except the front door. No worries. I called my daughter to bring the key I'd left with her, a fairly new one. She brought my old key. Ouch! Used a pass key to get in. So I called several locksmiths for estimates, knowing from past experiencwe that they charge around 150 depending. Bergman had an excellent reputation and the lowest price. They seemed to get it that I didn't need a new lock because we wanted to be able to use the master, just a re-key. Gabe showed up on time (they give a 2-hour window which I think is thoughtful) worked on my lock for about 20 minutes, charged me for fifteen and gave me my keys. Nor was he in a hurry to leave. We chatted for a few minutes-- very friendly. (I'm an old woman).

They were very professional. I told them what the situation was and why I wanted the locks, and so he tried to personalize the locks for me, and brought in exactly what I wanted. He was very good at listening to me. The installation was also great.

Overall our experience was good with them. However, one part that was a little annoying was that when they came to our home the first time to review the scope of work, the locksmith told us he would have to order the required parts, and they would have to come back next week to install. Well when they came back the next week, the locksmith they sent was a different guy who had never been here, and on top of that he was told he was just to investigate the scope of work. Thus it appears they have some internal communication issues at this company. However, in the end it turned out OK as locksmith #2 had the required parts and installed everything in a matter of hours.

Went great! Gabe came by and rekeyed all the locks, as well as fixing the doors that didn't close just right (the ones you have to lean on to close/lock), and also fixing one of the existing deadbolts that wasn't installed properly from the first time. I looked at all the color options for the new deadbolt and put in an order. The next week, he came by and installed it. No issues, very prompt, efficient, good quality work. And a very nice guy, too. :) Definitely recommend.
