I've used Ballard Tree for years to do my tree work. They are very fairly priced and are able to do incredible tree feats without leaving behind debris or doing any damage to surrounding areas. And they will come when you need them. I live in an area with lots of trees and they are the company I rely on for all my needs.

I called Ballard Tree Service about taking off 1/3 of a very large cherry tree. They responded immediately by phone and sent an estimator within a day. Other company I called didn't respond for several days and then said the job was too big. Ballard brought a cherry picker and did an amazing job in spite of the fact that a neighbor's car kept them from getting as close as desired. They made the tree look beautiful, followed our instructions, and managed to save all of my plants that were beneath the tree. We will be calling them again for future tree work. All debris was cleaned up and shredded onsite and even stray leaves were cleaned up. We were very impressed.

They came out the day after I called them for an estimate. On the day they did the job, they showed up on time, did exactly what we asked them to do, and left the place clean. Alicia called the next day to ask if we were satifsifed (we were). We will definitely use them in the future.

we called for a estamate on thinning and desailing our deadora tree and we were not home when he first came. he left a est. of $300 for the front yard tree to wind sail top 1/3. or thin and remove the de3adwood from entire tree for $700. we called and requested to set an appointment to see him and got one for friday. we explained all we wanted to do for two trees and he gave us an est. of 1075.00 for entire job with cleaning. they came on Tuesday and did the job in about 4-5 hours, the work was done very prof. and cleanup was great.
Description of Work: on our deadora Cedar, they removed the 12 ' limb going to our house, shortened branches to north over neighbor's yard and removed all dead limbs and cross limbs on the 80 or so foot tree, also removed some branches off of our Birch tree over driveway and thin tree.

Went well. Good service and advice. Very pleased. Would definitely use in the future and recommend to others.
Description of Work: Got estimate to have a tall Maple, but realtively young, tree trimmed. Ballard Tree Service came within a few days of estimate--they called and let us know when they would be here. Took all the limbs, etc. away. Very good service. Good advice on trimming. We were unsure about what needed to be done with hopes of keeping the tree healthy, but trimming it for future growth. Branches that were close to the house were becomming a problem. They trimmed the tree away from the house but kept the shape and future growth nice. Good service and phone communication.

I am sorry to hear that you are upset that we never got out there to give you an estimate. Your info was given to Greg, the owner. We do bids/estimates all the time and get quite a few calls like every company. Greg does bids in Edmonds on a certain day. I am sorry that we didn’t get the chance to bid you job. I am hoping that the company that does your work is licensed, insured and bonded. If you still want to give us a chance for us to go out there, please let us know.

I called on Tuesday, they came our for an estimate on Wednesday, received servce on Thursday. Greg called first and then came out to give me an estimate and he was very poilite and knowledgeable. I thought the estimate was very fair. When he got back to the office they called and arranged for the service the next day. I also talked about some ideas I had about planting a kind of hard to find tree in the future and he said they may be able to get that tree from their source. Jessie and crew came out the next morning and started work. He reviewed with me what I expected to be done and before he would start on a tree he was unsure about he doublechecked what I would like done. No mess was left including any that went into our neighbors area. I would use them again.
Description of Work: I needed some trees (5) and shrubs (3) pruned and maintained as they haven't been touched in at least 5 years.

We moved into a place with an out of control pine that had been pruned some years before but was wild and shapeless and blocking views. We called on Monday morning, got an estimate early afternoon and scheduled it for two days later when we could be present. Everyone (the receptionist, owner and two trimmers) were courteous, competent and patient. Our neighbor was anxious about how it would look. Martin and Paul took their time to include everyone while creating a tree that could come out of a painting. They trimmed below and on the sides as well as some spare branches that poked into the air. The tree looks more like a tree and the views opened up. They cleaned up so well, I'm certain they got stuff that was there when they arrived. We're thrilled our neighbors are delighted. You couldn't ask for a better experience! And the price was very reasonable for the time they spent and their considerable skill.
Description of Work: Trimmed a pine that had no shape into a beautiful bonzai, opening views above and below. It looks like a piece of art!

Because we have many large evergreen trees we have done business with several services over the past 30 years. Some of those experiences were negative; They left a mess, didn't do what they said they'd do, didn't clean up and tried to price gouge in emergencies. But, I've dealt with Ballard Tree Service twice over the past two years and I can't say enough good things about them. They've provided good competitive bids, prompt and excellent serivce. If there was an even higher rating, I'd give it to them!
Description of Work: Bring down hemlock tree (30" diameter at base, topped at approx 50-60') leaning over driveway and street, leave 16" fireplace size pieces, chip folliage and clean up. Since the tree was pulling up at the roots and leaning toward wires and cars, this was a minor emergency. I called Ballard Tree Service on Monday morning at about 8am, I had a meeting with Greg in front of the tree by 9:00, he had a crew on site by 9:30 am and the entire job was done by 11am. There was no damage to surrounding folliage and the site was cleaner than when they arrived.

I am sorry to hear that you were not satisfied. I called Greg out there immediately and took attention to this matter. The grounds men were dragging brush and it happened to scratch the paint off the side of your house. We got paint that day and followed up by making sure that we fixed what we damaged. We are licensed, insured and bonded. Our company does have a great reputation. We are sorry about any inconveniences that we may have caused. We did give you off on your invoice a 10% and fixed the damage. Again, we are sorry for your frustrations. Customers to us are #1!

We were very happy with the work Ballard Tree Service did. They showed up right on time and did the work quickly. I had some apprehension about trimming too much off the tree and they politely listened to me and I was very happy with the results. They brought out signs to block off street parking the day before they came to work, then picked them up the afternoon after they finished.

I called Ballard Tree Service because of the reviews on Angie's List and because I have seen their crews doing work in our neighborhood. The owner Greg came to our house to give us a free estimate. We decided right away to have them do the work. Two days later one of their crew came to our house to do the work. As my wife and I were both at work and not at the house to see the work being performed, the guy doing the work called me to talk about options for triming and thinning the blue spruce. He offered his suggestions which I appreciated and accepted. We are very pleased with the quality of their work, their timliness of completing the work, and the 5% Angie's List discount they gave us was an added bonus. We will definitely use them again should the need arise and highly recommend them.

We were very happy with their prompt, professional service. We would certainly call again. Our neighbor has had several trees removed by them, and they were great with them as well.
Description of Work: We had a 45' holly tree and a 10' tall forsythia bush-tree removed and the stumps ground out for replanting. We contacted Ballard Tree Service on a Saturday morning, and Greg came out to do the estimate on the same day! We proceeded to gather two more bids, and all three were pretty close. We went with Ballard Tree Service because their bid was fair, and they accept visa. They showed up on time at 9am and had the holly and Forsythia down in under an hour. It was incredibly fast and thorough work. The team of guys were professional, fast, and pretty careful since the branches were falling close to windows. The team left the wood rounds that couldn't go through the branch chipper, and these were hauled away the next day. Also the next day, the stump grinder guy came and ground out the stumps so that we can replant in that area. Overall, the work was fast and professional. Alicia is the office contact, and she was easy to get in touch with when I had questions or needed clarification on anything.

I had a very tall, very old crabapple tree at my rental property which was showing some decay and beginning to sag into an adjacent wooden fence. I called Ballard Tree Sertvice for a consult/estimate, and was sad to hear their advice that interior decay was sufficient enough that selective surgery would not be sufficient, and they recommended that the tree should be removed. I reluctantly agreed. The task was scheduled within the week. The 2-person team arrived on time, and proceeded efficiently . The task involved using a chain saw on an extension pole to remove lower branches and as much leafage as possible, then climbing the trunk with spiked boots and taking down branches from the top, carefully controlling the direction of the fall with ropes. They used their big chipping equipment to chip up the branchy leaves and debris, leaving the area clean and uncluttered. The whole process took only about 2 hours. I was amazed at the smoothness of the operation. And the accuracy of their advice was verified-- the entire core of the tree was decaying and in bad shape-- much more severe than had appeared on the surface to my untrained eye. The removal was very necessary even though I had felt reluctance. They also handled the chipping out of the remaining stump.
Description of Work: They removed a very mature, tall, extensive, decaying-at-the-core crabapple tree from my yard, and ground out the remaining stump, disposing of all debris.

generally it went well. The only problem was that he said the price was high because it would cost 150 to dispose of the branches removed. Later that year I did similar pruning of a massive hedge and found a place that would take all of the hedge and branches for 20 dollars.

The owner Greg met us the day after we called and gave us an estimate for the two cedar trees and also work on a third tree on the street that needed a little trimming for some street activity. The city mis-communicated about the tree on the street because they had already contracted with a different company to do the work, so this was not needed. Greg also advised that we wait for the dormant period to thin out another tree. The work was scheduled and the tree trimmer arrived right on time. We discussed what was needed and as he was doing the work, he frequently checked with me about specific branches and whether they should be removed or trimmed, if he had any doubts. I tried to watch and to verify that the cuts were made properly so that the tree would heal. Most cuts looked very good and the work was done efficiently. Very near to the end of the trimming, the chipper truck arrived. It was small enough to back into the driveway and the branches were chipped up quickly. The remaining pieces were swept up and this was followed by a blower that cleaned up any mess. I think the place was cleaner after they were done than when they got there! By the way, I asked if there was a senior discount and was given one. I would use their service again.

Our experience with Ballard Tree Service started as an "A" went to a "D" and finished around a "B". In July 2011 we contacted them to get quotes on two jobs. The owner, Greg, came out right away -- it may have been the same day. Greg was professional and polite. Most importantly, he told me what I wanted to hear. He spent a fair amount of time explaining what the "arborist" would be doing and why. We had not planned on spending $600 to prune a tree. But, we were sold on the idea that it was the right thing to do for the long-term health of the tree. We were concerned about damaging the surrounding plants. Greg assured us that the workers would lower the larger branches using ropes. We scheduled the prescribed "half-day" of work; a crew arrived right on time on the scheduled day. The crew that showed up was essentially just one guy with a chain saw/pole saw and one helper to haul the branches. He greeted us with, " OK. What are we doing here?" That's not what I wanted to hear. Greg had not relayed any of our discussion to the workers. I did my best to recall the work that Greg had described. The worker seemed like a nice guy, but I did not have confidence that he knew why he was cutting particular branches. It seemed like he was cutting for the sake of cutting. He basically cut any branch he could reach with the pole saw. After 90 minutes he came to the door and said that he had to leave for another job and that another worker (whom he mentioned by name) would be coming that afternoon or the next morning to finish the job. I asked about the pile of branches in the street. He said the truck was " on its way" to pick up the branches. There was no truck and no one came back that day. The next morning around 10 o'clock I received a call from Ballard Tree Service asking how the job went and if I was satisfied with the work. I had to break the news to her that there was still a lot of work to do and there was a pile of branches in the street. An hour later a truck showed up to chip and haul away the debris. (I wondered why they hauled away the first pile when there was still plenty of pruning to do.) There were a few more confusing exchanges with the company about when someone could come out to finish the job. Finally at 2:00 a crew showed up with the right equipment. I met the worker who asked, " OK. What are we doing here?" By then I wasn't surprised that there had been zero communication to this crew. Again, I relayed the conversation I had with Greg a week earlier. Really, I wanted them -- as professionals -- to tell me what needed to be done. Once they got to work they were efficient and seemed to be good at what they did. Unfortunately, not one branch was lowered by rope. When I asked about protecting the plants I was told that I had to cover any plant that needed protection from falling branches. My main gripe with Ballard Tree Service is the lack of any communication within the company. No information was passed between the estimator, scheduler, and workers. As the customer it became my job to act as the go-between for their employees. Still, I liked all of the people I came in contact with. They do good work. It's just a rough road getting there. I would recommend them to a friend, but that recommendation would come with a firm caveat.
Description of Work: Ballard Tree Service pruned a maple tree in our front yard. The tree was getting big and growing towards our house, the neighbor's house, and power lines. We hired them to prune the tree and give it a more clean appearance. They also gave us a quote on a second job. But, we have not heard back from them with the follow-up items we discussed. We will probably not go with Ballard Tree Service for that work.
