It was great actually. He was there probably a good two and a half hours. They are very thorough and spent a lot of time troubleshooting.
Description of Work: I purchased a big deal for As You Wish Electric, it was troubleshooting a hidden GFCI outlet. So he found that, swapped that and relocated to a more easy to find location then swapped the GFCI for a newer version and then he swapped another outlet as well.

We had a bunch of small electrical issues that needed to be tackled, but no one of them was worth a two hour visit - moving a chandelier, installing an outdoor motion detector light by back door, removing the remnants of a light bulb broken off in the socket, replacing a GFI receptacle and a couple of smaller items. The provider came in and completed all of our checklist in less time than we budgeted, and answered all our questions and provided suggestions/advice for future projects. He was efficient, came up with great suggestions, and did great work. Would have them back to work on future projects.

I called to schedule an appointment, and was given a time slot between 8 am and 9 am on a Thursday morning. The guy was right on time, professional, clean and respectful. He came in, opened the panel and asked me to turn on the dryer. Within a few minutes he could smell my issue, and asked me to turn off the dryer. He then popped off the Breaker for the dryer placed it back, and told me I would need to have my whole panel replaced. The guy said that my panel was out of code and wasn't balanced, also said that my panel was aluminum and because the dryer breaker was over heating that the bus was now warped. I was told that I could just replace the breaker, but that that would not solve my problem. Said that the problem would just return, so I followed up with a few questions regarding year, month, day? He told me that he couldn't say but that it?s a fire hazard, and that he would recommend that the whole panel be upgraded. I was given an estimate with the cost of the breaker only, and 3 different panel options. High end 2200, low end 1650. I was also given a coupon of 100 off the cost. I was also given an estimate of 85 dollars for the permit that would be needed. All this was fine, but I had 2 additional electricians come out for an estimate both of which gave me a completely different story. The second guy just told me that I'd have to replace the 40 amp breaker, and would also want to bring my grounding up to code, something about how they now require that there are two grounding rods. His estimate was about 150 for the breaker, (about the same) but then well over a grand for the new grounding. He told me that my panel was not out of code, was not warped and was not overloaded (A vs. B). The third guy I had come out, and the guy I actually hired, told me that both were wrong. This guy said that my panel was 200 amps, not overloaded, that the Bus was not warped. He told me that the panel was most likely installed in the 80's - so yes it was Aluminum, but was not warped. He told me that my grounding was within code because the year my house was built I was grandfathered in. Then told me that the only thing I needed to do was to replace the breaker. I feel that As You Wish Electric was simply trying to get me to upgrade my panel and open my pocket book, and really wasn't interested in resolving my problem. I was made to believe that If I didn't upgrade my panel, I wouldn't be able to sell my home and I'd run the risk of it burning down. Very disappointed and SUPER thankful I called multiple electricians/contractors (all licensed and in good standing with Angies List)

Truthfully, I have to question if they have a clue what they're doing. We had them out, originially on a big deal, at least two or three times. When we remodeled the house we had it wired so we could just plug the generator in to the panel and it would run specific systems (a few lights, refrigerator/freezer, furnace blower, etc). They went round and round, first it was that we had the wrong cord (which had been specially made for the generator/house connection), then it was that the generator box was wired incorrectly, then something else. In the end, we had a friend who is a retired electrician come out and he spent about four hours troubleshooting. We finally figured out that the issue is that when we plug the generator in to the house, we have to turn off the main house breaker, and then turn on ONLY the breakers that run the designated systems and then everything works fine. I feel like we completely wasted our time and money with these guys.
Description of Work: Tried to ensure our generator hook up to the house would work

They were fine. They cane out and did as advertised and they made some recommendations and the guy was real courteous. I didn't, have any work done by them, I don't know if I could recommend them for actual work done. They came it to inspect, i had wanted sonebody to inspect, we had work done eight years ago and we weren't sure the it was okay, so they looked it through and made reasonable recommendations for other work to be done. I can say that I recomnend him for that as far as inspection. The electrical inspection was great. It was fine, it was just fine.

Bryan showed up right on time, did his work efficiently and cleaned up any mess that resulted from his work. He is a good worker and has a nice personality. I hope to have As You Wish do other electrical work in my home later this fall. 12/27/2013 This is an update to my previous post. I had another electrician do my kitchen remodel and at that time I found out that work that Bryan said he did involving removing wiring from my previous heating system from the panel was never done. He shut off the breaker but left the wire connected to the breaker instead of disconnecting them as he said he did! I also needed to have a different electrician from As You Wish come to move an outside outlet that was put in incorrectly when the new heating system was put in.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. The deal was a little bit misleading because we only need something very minor done but then we thought that he’s got some extra time so we went ahead and had him fix the light. He said that it would cost an additional amount and we thought that the service was supposed to be for an hour. We ended up doing it with no extra charge. They just need to be a little bit clearer on what they cover and what they don’t cover. He was late when he came out.

I showed him where I waned it and he couldn't do it one place because there was plaster board and we agreed on another place and it was going to be at the top of my stairs on the porch part under the railing so that it was out of people's way and he could not get onto the top. So instead of coming back to me saying "I can't get in to where we agreed on doing it," he just put it to the side of one of the stairs so in the middle of my stairs there was a box sticking out. I also wanted it some other place on the side of the house and there was a bush there that he would have had to go behind a little and he goes, "No I can't do it. There's bushes there." So I started thinking, "Yes you could because you're doing outdoor electric boxes so sometimes you have to squeeze in behind a bush or something." There had to be an outlet on the inside that he could work from to do the installation on the outside and we got it from my grand daughter's room. SO a couple of the places I wanted he said no he couldn't do it because of the bushes ,and the place that we agreed to he did not get to that place because he ran into some wall board or something. By the time it was in and I looked at it, I didn't know what to do because that;'s not even a normal place that anyone would even think of putting one.

All very professional like until the inspector showed up the next day after we requested changing the date. Luckily it worked out?the inspector stated the job was not to the standard because he found 1) there were quite a few extra loose screws inside the breaker box which the electrian did not clean up at all 2) debris was not vacuumed out, 3) the ground wires stick up in the side of the house right outside of door and etc

They exceeded my expectations. I expected the $99 diagnostic visit to be cursory, but they actually solved a lot of problems on the spot. There were a few issues with confused wiring (not bad wiring) that they fixed then and there. I needed a new GCFI outlet, which the electrician installed in minutes. He also suggested the surge protector, which--if I had installed one when I bought the house--I might have saved a lot of money in bulb replacement. The diagnostic visit was on a Tuesday, and another tech came out on a Friday and installed the central surge protector. They estimated it would take an hour, and he wrapped it up in about 40 minutes. The electricians were friendly, professional, courteous, and there work fixed all of the issues I had. I highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: I asked them to troubleshoot some electrical issues, which were mostly easy to solve right there on the spot during the initial $99 diagnostic visit. They also installed a central surge protector, which was not part of the original reason I contacted them, but I really appreciated the suggestion since I've had more than a few burned out light bulbs, and don't want a surge to damage appliances.

Electrician Brian Newton arrived on time on Thursday, August 1st to do the walk through and provide an estimate. His paperwork only stated that he was there to estimate the burned out exhaust fan, but I explained that I had called in for three things: exhaust fan. new ballasts in the kitchen, and replacing the broken exhaust fan. He went over all these request with me. I also advised that I was going to be putting together a to do list of things I wanted to update. At that time Brian did check the wired smoke detector and advised that it was very old and not working. We discussed the upgrade to one that was also a carbon monoxide detector and that the carbon monoxide detector was now code. Definitely something a home inspector would be looking at if I were to sell my condo. When the walk through was completed I told Brian that when I scheduled the estimate the scheduler had offered to secure a schedule spot for me for the work to actually be done on Monday, August 5th and I had taken a day off work. Brian excused himself and went outside to call the office. When he returned he advised that the appointment had not actually been scheduled, but as I had taken the day off work he got them to reschedule some other estimating appointments he had and would be back to do the work himself. In all fairness to the scheduler, it may be that I misunderstood her offer, but I don't beleive that is the case. As a person who schedules installations at my own job I know that sometimes there are glitches. At any rate Brian resolved the issue and arrived on time Monday to do the work. Brian did everything on the list in good order. Our only problem was that one of the flourescent bulbs was broken in the wrapping. Brian went above and beyond to try to find a fourth "warm" bulb, going to both Lowes and Home Depot, but was unable to find the correct type. He did bring back four "bright" bulbs and tried combining them, some warm some bright. Unfortunately, the combination of bulbs did not work - it just made part of the lens over the fixtures look dirty. We ended up using the bright with Brian telling me that if I was not happy with the bright bulbs he would bring another warm bulb over. He also left the other 3 warm bulbs with me so I can replace it at any time. All my questions about other electrical work I was looking to do in the future were answered in a professional manner with no pressure to start the projects until I was ready. We discussed two outlets near sinks that would need GFI's installed both as a safety feature now and a code issue should I decide to sell. The estimate I was given was firm and there were no additional changes or charges. This orgnainization is professional and does excellent follow through on updating clients on the status of arrivals etc. I would strongly recommend them.
Description of Work: Replaced a non-functioning wired-in smoke detector with a new combination smoke and carbon monoxide detector. Replaced a broken porch light. I provided the fixture as this is a condo association and I had located one to match the required standard fixture. Replaced a burned out exhaust fan in the laundry room. Removed and replace two flourescent lighting ballasts in the kitchen ceiling with two upgraded and more efficient units.

It went very smoothly. I had them for a certain number of hours based on the BIG DEAL but since they couldn't solve the problem in one day they split the time into two days. They came back on day two without a fuss and finished the job. Everything works well!
Description of Work: I had some can lights that were turning off for no apparent reason. I purchased an Angie's BIG DEAL with As You Wish Electric in hopes of solving the problem. It turns out they were over heating due to insulation that was recently installed. They came out and figured out the problem and left to return another day since they had to get materials to build heat shields around the lights. On the second trip they installed heat shields/barriers around all of my can lights and they have been working happily ever since.

As You Wish arrived as scheduled and with a crew of three electricians, managed to complete our contract work in just one day (8 hours). The power was only off for about three hours total and they cleaned up before leaving. City inspector thorough checked the workmanship and then approved the project.

Both jobs were excellent. Work was done very professionally by the electrician and the apprentice. Arrived on time and went right to work. They explained what they were doing and why it needed to be done. They arrived with the electrical work permits from our city. Our input was sought for location and use of new circuits. All of our expectations were met, no disappointments. They also did a courtesy inspection of our homes and made some helpful suggestions for future work.
Description of Work: Two jobs in one day. 1. Installed outside floodlight fixture on garage. extended existing circuit, new outlet box and on/off switch, using conduit. $400 (this was at my house) 2. Installed two new GFI circuits from electrical panel to new inside outlet and outside to new outlet box. $900 (this was at my son's house nearby)

Bryant showed up at our house early and determined the best route for the wire for the dryer. He discussed his plan and provided an estimate which we accepted. He discussed where he would drill holes and we provided some requests. He drilled the holes exactly where we wanted. He had the new circuit installed and dryer hooked up with a couple hours. He also answered some questions we had about the hot tub power. He was professional and proficient. I am very happy with the service.

It went really well. They couldn't do what I wanted to do for the $179 but they just applied it to what I actually have so that works for me, it was $999 for everything I wanted done. They were very polite, quick, considerate of everything that they were doing and didn't want to mess up my house and in fact I like them so much I had them come back yesterday and do some additional work for me. They honestly didn't run in any problems, it was pretty clear and concise in what they do and it was already for them so I think if I had any complaints at all is that one of the workers ate a banana and left the banana peel on the ground, that's the worst thing they did. It wasn't that bad because there wasn't a garbage can around. In fact I'm going to have them come out again to do some additional work in the future.

After calling another top rated Angies List company and never receiving a call back, I spoke with 2 folks at the main office of As You Wish and they were both friendly and professional and squeezed me in the same day. Bryan came out and helped with our faulty GFI outlet in the kitchen. He had a few problems with our outlet since someone in the past wired the outlet in an antiquated fashion. He replaced the outlet twice, but it blew out twice in a row. After that he seemed to quickly figure things out. He didn't charge me any extra for the time he took in figuring why the outlet didn't work after his first two attempts. Very sweet and professional guy and company.....will call A.Y.Wish, first in the future.
