They did an exceptional job. I got so much feedback from our other contractors saying that they had never seen such a clean job. I did a lot of research online and am very happy with the provider we chose, they didn't damage the walls with the tape or anything.
Description of Work: They removed asbestos from our entire home, about 1500 sq ft of popcorn ceilings containing asbestos. They were in my home for about 2 days to do all of the work.

Great job. Professional. Cleaned up as if they were never here. They took extra-ordinary efforts to protect the wood floors prior to starting work. They did everything thay said they would on the quote. Highly recommended.

Very responsive since the first appoinment. Ed took measures carefully and responded fast. Bid was very competitive. Sales and administration teams are very professional. The actual work took 3 full days. First they came and insulated all work area with thick clothes, they included safety barriers in the entrance too. The house looked like a bio lab, which is good when dangerous material is removed. They worked in the next two days and finished on time. Everything was great so far. I was told that removing popcorn would affect the sheetrock because the work requires scraping and using high-pressure water. And in fact, some parts were significantly affected, although most of the work was pretty neat. My only complaint would be that I found marks of tape that was used to hold the clothes in most walls. Nothing serious for this type of work and that's the only reason I put a B in quality instead of an A. Still very recommended.

The bid from this company came in a bit higher than from other companies who we checked with, but our general contractor had worked with them before and said that they were reliable so we decided to go with them. We wanted the work done as soon as possible as it was a unexpected asbestos discovery (hidden beneath drywall), and they were a little slow in getting back to us on when they could do the work, but it did eventually get scheduled and the completed the work as promised. While I can't comment on how they performed the work as I was not present, I can comment on what I saw after they had left: the first problem was that they left their disposable protective suits lying at the side of the house in the open. Everything that I have read about asbestos removal indicates that these are considered hazardous and should be disposed of in the same manner as the asbestos. The second problem related to some duct work with asbestos covering: I had removed this myself (with the proper safety equipment and procedures as detailed on the pscleanair website) a few days prior since it was just a short (< 10 ft) section, and double bagged it in the bright yellow asbestos disposal bags. I had planned on dropping it off at Rabanco Recycling, but after we found the asbestos ceiling I decided to just wait and have the Asbestos contractors dispose of it along with the ceiling. They had instructions to do this, but after they had left, I found the duct work lying uncovered (evidently removed from the double-bagged asbestos disposal bags) in the back yard. I have no idea what events led to this, but I do know that this is a serious safety hazard. These two observations led me to seriously question the safety procedures and standards employed by this company, I would definitely not recommend them to anyone for asbestos removal.
Description of Work: This company was brought in by our general contractor to remove some asbestos-containing popcorn ceiling.

The AEC guys did a great job, just like all the posts promised. Ed came out promptly and did an estimate, and delivered the quote quickly. Their price was in line with competitors but I felt that their approach was much more professional than another company I had out. The crew on site did an excellent job with the work and left the place clean and complete. Linda in the office is also very pleasant and easy to work with. As others mentioned, you have to expect some damage to the underlying wallboard and possibly some peeled paint from the tape that's needed to hold all the plastic in place. If you're skittish about paint coming down, you really haven't fully prepared for having popcorn ceilings removed, so get over it. :-) I asked Ed specifically about the one negative review on Angie's List, where the workers apparently broke the containment zone. He said he regretted that that happened (it was some time ago) and they put more training in place to prevent such an occurence. It seems in general that the crews consist of one highly experienced person and 1 or more other employees who might be more temporary. I can understand where someone new might have made a mistake. One note nobody mentioned: because the ceiling is removed by spraying it with water, the joint compound in the ceiling can absorb a lot of water, and as a result will smell like fresh joint compound for a few days until it dries out again. Probably better to do this in summer when it can evaporate faster if this is a problem for you.

We obtained lab results on some suspicious old tile flooring that was under carpet. It was asbestos-based tile and backing. We called AEC based on the Angie's List reviews. They came out, and estimated that the work would be minimal (i.e., the base price). They hoped to save the wood floor under the tile, but thought that they might have to take the wood floor completely out. We scheduled the work, they came out and did the work quickly. They did end up having to remove the wood floor under the tile--as expected. They left no mess, and it was all very smooth and easy.

Called company for estimate. Came to home as scheduled and provided quote. Cost estimate was on high-side compared to others, but not out of line. Chose this company because of thoroughness in answering questions. Contract written 11/25 last year and work done on 12/02. Both estimator and set-up crew were professional. I examined prep work and it looked good. (Some bent metal and missing screws to attachment hardware for a light/fan removed from hallway. Fixed it myself. ) Crew did careful job of removing texture from ceilings with minimal damage to sheetrock. They vacuumed out recessed ceiling light fixture hardware. Walls, woodwork and floors showed no signs of abuse.

The project went very well. The team was professional and friendly and they kept the job site impeccably clean. I stopped in to collect mail several times during off-hours and was really impressed with how clean the house was - I could tell they specialize in handling this material and were well-prepared to deal with the inherent hazards. There were also a couple of items on my list that needed lead removal that weren't on the crew's list given their interpretation of the job spec. On both occasions, there was no argument and I was told that they would take care of it. I found this to be very refreshing especially given the amount of $$ I was already spending on the work. Once the job was complete, they left the site clean - there was no sign they had been there. And, on top of that, they finished the work 3 days ahead of schedule!

AEC could have pitched for a ton of work, e.g., abating it, doing an air test, etc., but instead gave us great tips on how to deal with it ourselves given the minor amount of asbestos. This eased our concerns about the health risks and helped us understand how to encapsulate the affected areas.
Description of Work: We found asbestos around our heating ducts in the wall and ceiling joists completely common in homes older than 1970. We called AEC to understand the dangers & risks of what we found, as well as to learn what we should do to protect the house & our health. AEC was thorough & deliberate in explorations & explanations. They went through the whole house and spotted a couple things we missed.

Ed Plikaytis was very prompt. He was one of the nicest and most considerate contractors that I have talked to. He assured us of all the different options we could choose from. We just thoroughly enjoyed having him here. He was very competent and really seemed to know what he was talking about. He took a lot of care and interest in our situation. When we do have the work done we will definitely use him.

They were very good overall, especially on the asbestos tile removal. I do, however, have questions on whether the lead abatement on the siding was really worth it or not. It seemed like I could have done that myself and there is quite a bit more to do, and the cost was expensive.

Got a 5 quotes to remove my popcorn ceilings (with asbestos) in a 1250 sq ft condo. 5 contractors were called and 3 came to see the place (one never responded and one couldn't make it the day I had them come in). American Environmental was there on time and stayed the longest to evaluate the job (measured, asked questions, etc.). Of the contractors that came in, AE provided the best quote. I think the main reason (for the lower quote) was that they actually measured what they needed to do (the other ones didn't) since it wasn't the entire condo (1250 st feet less the bathrooms and the kitchen). I didn't go back to the other contractors with the same sq ft (had too much other stuff going on). After the quote was provided, they were very responsive to answer my questions. Also, the preparation was good. For example, they asked for the measurement of the elevator so they could cut a piece of protective covering to put on the floor of the elevator. They will preform the work tomorrow and Tuesday and will update on their final work.

All my contacts with the company were professional, they responded quickly and kept all of their commitments.
Description of Work: The salesman came to my house reviewed the project and discusses the alternatives. He was very clear about the options and costs. He suggested that I get the tile analyzed and recommended a local lab. After the results were returned he sent me a written proposal. On the scheduled day the technical showed up promptly at 7:30. He explained exactly what he was going to do and confirmed that it was OK. He made sure that I knew that the chemicals he was going to use gave off a very strong odor for a couple of days. He did the work professionally and cleaned up the work area. Then he finished the work he went reviewed the results with me before he left.

The whole experience was excellent. Ed came out to do a bid, very soon after we contacted American Environmental. Their bid was slightly lower than another bid we got, and American Environmental seemed more responsive, responsible, and experienced. They worked with our timing, which was really specific, because we luckily could stay at a nearby friend's home while he was on vacation. The crew did an outstanding job, leaving the ceiling in excellent shape. Charley, the on-site manager, was very easy to communicate with and very responsive to calls and questions. The whole job was complete in three days. A small mirror on a wall adjoining the popcorn ceiling was damaged, and Charley went out of his way to replace it, even though we told him that it wasn't necessary, as we were planning to demolish the wall. Charley said: "I really want to leave the house the way I found it." Everything was left neat and tidy. We were very impressed and have already recommended them to friends.

Chris Eckholm came to do the estimate. He was very professional as well as warm and friendly. He took the time to explain different aspects of the removal process. He was prompt in delivering the bid, and thorough in his knowledge of his company's history and experience. It was a difficult choice, but we ended up going with a company that had a competitive price and could do the work sooner. I hope we don't regret not choosing this company as they seem great.

Tony was the supervsior on the job. They left a crumpled up dirty white cloth wrapped in the blue tape that was used to tape the plastic barrier on the wall in my paper recycling bin and a black brush, which was used to remove the plaster particles containing asbestos left on the ground. They also left 2 holes on my garage ceiling. I found there were many small plaster particles containing asbestos randomly strewn around the floor of the garage and basement. The most upsetting thing I found as that the worker(s) used the toilet in the laundry room, which was a sealed area! Because the toilet leaks, I had turned the water off years ago and that bathroom hasn't been used for years. I noticed that stuff I had placed on the top of the toilet seat was relocated to the top of my washing machine and I saw water on the floor around the toilet. I'm very upset--not because they used the toilet--but because they entered the sealed area and broke the seal before the job was completed.
Description of Work: I hired this company to remove the asbestos popcorn ceiling in my garage and basement living room July 2007. It want very unpleasant and frustrating experience. There is a newer company, which offered a lot less to do the job, and this company also has very good references. I thought, "you get what you pay for" so I hired American Environment. I am very disappointed in this company and regret my decision.

We decided to replace the carpet in our 1904 home and found vinyl tiles underneath, stuck onto the original hardwood floors. Someone suggested testing the tiles for asbestos and they turned out to be VAT (vinyl asbestos tiles) attached to the hardwoods with a non-asbestos black mastic. So we decided to do right by our home and get rid of the asbestos and also bring back the (hopefully) decent original hardwood floors. Several asbestos abatement companies (found on Angie's List) estimated our project. We found that American Environmental was the most professional, experienced, and pleasant, and also happened to be the most reasonably priced. They were punctual, performed the work quickly, with little damage to the original floors, and we are so relieved to be free of asbestos. Now we are beginning the process of removing the black mastic and refinishing the floors, and hope to have comparable success with another Angie s List-recommended business.
Description of Work: VAT (vinyl asbestos tile) was removed from our hardwood floors on the entire main floor, approx 600 sf. First Ed measured and estimated the project. He was so pleasant and helpful in giving us a fast education on asbestos. He walked us through the whole process, bagged samples for us to take to the lab, and told us what questions to ask them. In the weeks before the removal was performed, he answered our many questions promptly via email. On the day of the removal, Dave and his crew arrived promptly at 8:30am. They sealed all areas appropriately, removed and disposed of the existing carpet and pad, and then removed all of the VAT, exposing our 1904 hardwood floors, with minimal damage to the floors. When we returned from work that night, the entire project was complete and they had cleaned up immaculately.

We have a old boiler in our basement and we were not sure if it contained asbestos. I phoned Ed Plikaytis and he was able to come out the following morning. Super nice guy. He took a look, gave me his best guess and advised me how to get it tested. We did not have a clue how much something like this would cost to be removed. He quoted me removal of the boiler both with and without asbestos. I thought his quote was very reasonable. If we need to have it removed, I will definitely be calling Ed.
