The quote process went quickly and smoothly--they thoroughly inspected the house for asbestos locations and followed-up with a written estimate next day. They scheduled us on the date that was most convenient for us to remove the asbestos. They arrived on-time, completed the job within the day and were very professional and courteous of our time. Also to note, was their amazing clean-up job after the work was complete. I don't think our vents and house will ever be vacuumed as thoroughly as they had done so. The extra mile they went with their work was noticed and appreciated. I would absolutely recommend American Environmental Construction for asbestos removal.
Description of Work: American Environmental Construction removed asbestos tape from four vents, one air-intake, around the base of ducts in our basement and encapsulated where it could not be removed from duct work. They also removed a large roll of asbestos that had been thrown into an attic area.

It took my husband a few different calls to get someone at American to call him back to schedule our abatement; we had used them before though and had been impressed so were willing to wait for a call back. The abatement took two days. We were told it was unnecessary to remove our things from the basement and that it would be safe to be present during the abatement. The first day they supposedly encapsulated the areas with plastic and thick blue tape and took the vinyl sheet flooring up and the fir floor it was glued onto in large pieces to minimize cutting through the vinyl or scraping the glue up. They also removed the asbestos insulation around the hot water pipes. They also removed an enormous boiler that it turns out did NOT have asbestos in it but that we wanted taken out as part of a remodel. They then told us they would run two negative air pressure machine to clear the air of any ambient asbestos fibers that may have escaped the abatement. The next day they came and did a final clean-up and took down the plastic. This was all done in the back of the house and the basement and as I was there with my three year old daughter I mainly just tried to stay up on the second floor and out of their way so I have no idea how well any of this was done. I did notice it was all done very, very, quickly. That night I went down to do laundry in the basement and noticed some small piles of what looked like fragments of asbestos pipe. There were probably 4-5 small pieces or piles of paper with fibers in them. They were very friable. None more than 1/2 inch, but still there. Some had been ground up and tracked around. Then I saw a piece of the tape used to tape up the asbestos insulation that was about 6x6 inches sitting next to the wall. If a big piece like that was missed, what else got missed? When you get an abatement you expect to have, well, no asbestos. Not some asbestos that now is crumbling and friable and being tracked all over the place. If anything I feel like the abatement has made our home someplace that now feels unsafe. I realize that often people can get unduly worked up over asbestos, but when you hire someone to do a dangerous job you expect someone who is patient, takes his time, and is thorough. The next morning I showed my contractor the asbestos and he agreed that it was more than likely pieces of asbestos insulation and he called American to ask them to come back. Someone then called me ( the manager?) and said that he was sending the same guy who had done the abatement out to HEPA vac the floor and to run another negative air machine. When the guy came he kept saying that it was *probably* just fiberglass insulation from the boiler. However after finding more than one piece that had fibers in it that looked very much like asbestos and then showing him the tape which definitely came off one of the pipes he agreed that it was probably asbestos. He said he'd clean it up and make sure we were happy with the results. So my understanding is once the asbestos escapes the containment it's a bit of a lost cause. I suppose there is a chance that the white papery stuff on the ground *may* have been fiberglass but to me and my contractor it looked exactly like the asbestos insulation around the pipes, and the tape was definitely from the pipes. Assuming it was asbestos, it has already been tracked upstairs, our laundry basket was set down in it, etc. I had also asked for the air quality report and was told it would be emailed right away. After a few hours I called again and was told that the person who handles the reports was out sick and that they would locate it and email it. The negative air machine was never run during this second clean-up, and the guy from American left after approx 45 minutes without following up with me. He may have talked to my contractor. I placed a call to the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency and talked to the man that handles asbestos issues (Mario). He said that it certainly sounded like there were some violations, but that because we moved the samples we found (put them in plastic bags) and because we had American come back and clean it up they couldn't do anything about those violations. I'm really unhappy about the abatement and now wonder what I've exposed my 7 and 3 year old daughters to, and whether it's safe for them to be in the basement or what I should do to try and minimize the possible exposure. Update: I'm updating my review to a C after receiving the air quality report and all was within normal limits.Which is extremely reassuring. The air quality seemed fine throughout the procedure and after, so perhaps I'm being reactionary. However I still think it's not okay to be finding remnants of asbestos after any abatement.
Description of Work: Removed vinyl sheet flooring with asbestos backing and asbestos mastic. Removed asbestos insulation wrap around hot water pipes in basement and crawlspace.

American Environmental Construction LLC I got a quote from them about three weeks ago. It was for $ 2300. They were fine, they said their price was about 25% higher than another quote that I had. They gave me a timely quote. I have not feed back on the service because I did not use them.

The estimator was on-time, professional, clear and provided a complete bid in a timely manner. The scope was exactly the same as two other bids we got but Americanwas $4,000 above the contractor we used and $500 more than the other bid. They were willing to clean up the area and make a bathroom accessible for each day of the job, which was the only difference we could see between the lower bid.
Description of Work: This review is for the bid process only. We did not choose to go with American Environmental.

AEC did a great job, their estimator arrived on time and did a complete review of the affected areas. The crew arrived on time and worked a long day to complete the job in one day (even though they had told me it would take two). They were very thorough and did an excellent job cleaning up. The floor had no residue after they were done.
Description of Work: AEC removed all of the 9x9 floor tiles from our about 800 sqft of basement floor, mastic on wall panels and a small section of concrete from the chimney. They also demoed a large built-in bookcase that was covering the affected area. They were a little more expensive than some of the other companies but provide a more detailed estimate that gave me confidence they understood the full job.

Went great. The company was very flexible with the actual job date - we had to change it twice due to other vendors. The crew showed up on time, finished on time, explained everything, and left a clean job site. The company obtained all the required permits for the job. I've used other asbestos removal firms in some of my other rentals in the past, but American Environmental Construction beats them all in terms of being easy to work with. They are at the top of my list for any asbestos work in the future.

We hired American Environmental to remove vermiculite insulation from the attic of the home we recently purchased. They quoted a fair price for asbestos removal. (We elected not to have the vermiculite tested as the tests are not proven accurate. We simply want to get it out quickly and safely.) They did all the work requested, were promp and courteous at all times and generally did good work. The one complaint I had was in regards to the removal of the and quot;floorand quot; in teh attic. This was not done cleanly and may of the boards were broken. That said, they are very old, original boards and I'm not sure it would have been possible to remove them cleanly at all. Overall, we were satisfied with thier work adn price.

AEC did what they said they would do, on time, professionally, and with plenty of patience for my silly questions. I don't know enough about this kind of work to evaluate their results and performance objectively, so I did not rate them on quality. I can say that they did remove everything they should have, and left no mess at all. I can also say that I was present and watched the entire job (from outside the containment area, of course), and they did appear to do a very thorough job of prep, containment, demolition, regulatory compliance, and cleanup. I asked for and received the air quality testing documents, chain of custody documents, and copies of required notifications, and everything appeared to be in order and compliant with Puget Sound Clean Air and OSHA requirements. All AEC staff and techs were punctual, efficient, respectful, and a pleasure to work with from bid to completion. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them for safe removal of nasty stuff.

At first, the consultant was very receptive, informative and easy to get in touch with. As the process went along, it became evident that he was still learning, his boss (located in a different state) was reading consultant's test results and writing an generic report. At that point, both consultant and his boss became difficult to contact. They would not provide the followup reports as requested, attendance at board meeting was met with a phone call (which had bad reception so difficult to hear and understand consultant).

It was very easy to work with this company from start to finish.
Description of Work: Ed came out a few months prior to estimate cost for asbestos removal in our basement and garage ceiling tiles. When he looked over the whole area, he suggested that the tiles in the basement were not generally asbestos type and that we should take additional samples for analysis (previously we had taken only 1 sample from our garage). When we did it turned out we only had about 20 square feet of ceiling tiles to remove in one area of the garage and none in the basement. The worker who came to do the work was professional and did the job well and quickly in one morning.

They did a fairly good job and were on time with their quote. They were very helpful with scheduling and explaining the process and everything. I only wish they would have been a little more careful when removing the asbestos from the ceiling as there was a little gauging. But otherwise they did a pretty good job and left the house clean. I would rate them overall an A. I am considering them for some drywall work as well.

This was the second time we used American Environmental and found them to be very accommodating (we had compressed schedules both times due to home sale/purchase), professional, knowledgeable and fair in price. They really worked with us to get the job done according to our schedule and did great work each time. Mike was also open to answering additional questions after the transaction, which was a nice touch.

They'd estimated two day's work, but got it completely done in one day. I let them in in the morning, went to work, and when I got home, there simply wasn't any popcorn on the ceilings anymore or flooring/mastic in the bathroom. Otherwise, you basically wouldn't know anybody had ever been there. Just a couple minor marks on the wall/areas where the tape they'd used to hold down the plastic sheeting on the walls took up some paint. Very thorough and clean job. We were so happy with our now-mostly-smooth ceilings that we actually finished them off ourselves to be smooth and are pleased with the result.P.S. I pressed American Environmental for some kind of certificate declaring my house was now asbestos-free. They would only certify that they'd removed what they'd been asked to remove and that air samples taken before/after showed a cleaned-up job (my rough paraphrasing). I have since realized the reality behind why they didn't give my whole house a clean bill of health. We found MORE tile/mastic that matched that of the bathroom when we moved the dishwasher. Oh joy. Due to the expense of American Env. and the small area, though, we opted to take care of the under-the-dishwasher tiles ourselves (following Puget Sound Clean Air Agency instructions).
