All went well & they were able to do it for less than the price originally quoted (2 men did it instead of 3). The mover on the site, however, was very aggressive (asked several times) about adding a tip onto the bill.

3 guys showed up to move our short upright piano. They were punctual and even started before we arrived. They took care not to scuff the sidewalk and the stairs by using metal ramps. Other than the travel time, it probably took about 15 minutes. Overall it was a great experience and I would use them again.

Because of a conflict with a neighborhood event, we had to change our piano move date -- we called about 8 days before the original date and had no problem delaying the move by a week. Although it was a very rainy day, A-1 arrived on time and set up a series of ramps to move the piano down 8 steps of our porch, another step to a steep driveway, and then down the driveway to their truck. Although it had stopped raining, they provided protection for the piano. The whole move out of our house took less than ten minutes -- it was very obvious that the movers knew what they were doing. The work at the other end of the move went smoothly as well. We were very pleased with the move. We were initially given a price estimate of $200-$240, and with our Angie's List 5% off coupon, the final price of $190 was exactly at the low end of their estimate.

In checking with piano movers recommended by Angie's List, I was told by a staffer at A-1 and also by another company that they would turn my piano on end (vertically) and carry it up the seven stairs from my parents' basement. This sounded a little scary to me (although both companies assured me it is done a lot), and logistically I thought the hallway/stairway intersection was too tight for this method. The other option was taking the piano out the patio slider, across the backyard, up the side yard and onto the driveway, up to the street. When I called A-1 back the second time, I asked if I could speak to one of the movers or a manager to explain my concerns. I talked with Bret (I believe the manager), who listened to my explanation, which meant a lot to me. After looking at the photos I emailed Bret, he agreed that taking the piano across the grassy yard was a better option, although he estimated it would cost a bit more ($400 vs. $320, before the 10 percent Angie's List discount) for the extra time needed to lay planks on the ground for the piano to roll across. That was fine with me, so we booked the move. Since I didn't need to move the piano on a specific date, Bret looked at the schedule to see if there was another move in the south end already scheduled that could be paired with my move -- that way I could share the cost of the driving time and save some money. Alas, nothing matched up, but I appreciated his efforts. On the day of the move, the three-man moving crew called to say they were ahead of schedule, so we set an earlier time to meet at the house -- and arrived at the same time. The guys got out of the truck and I showed one of them where the piano was located, and the layout of the yard. Then all three came downstairs, put the piano on the dolly and rolled it across the yard -- they didn't even need the planks! Just eight minutes after the A-1 truck pulled up in front of the house, the piano was being rolled into the truck! It was pretty amazing. Then there was the 30-minute drive to Federal Way and unloading the piano at my house. The guys did have to use the planks to get the piano across my gravel driveway and across my backyard lawn. Then it was up four stairs and into the designated room, arriving in the same condition as it left my parents' house. I had asked to purchase special piano caster cups with felt bottoms ($49.28 including tax), which the guys placed under the piano's wheels. Then they even moved the piano into the exact position I wanted (a few inches to the right; no, now an inch to the left). All the guys were very friendly, conducted themselves professionally and obviously knew what they were doing. Because they had been able to move the piano so quickly from the first location, my final bill was actually less than the estimate -- $324 ($360, minus the 10 percent discount). With the casters and a tip, the total was just under $400. All in all, I couldn't have been happier with the experience! I definitely would use A-1 Piano Moving again and recommend them to anyone who needs a piano moved.

These folks were unbelievable. The owner fielded my several inquiry calls and set me up with an appointment speedily, calming my fears about the maneuverability of our driveway, and gave me a very clear idea of the cost, offering the Angie's List discount without being asked. I inquired about tuning after setup and he advised me this should wait a couple weeks to let the piano adjust a little to its new situation, but assured me their piano master could do this for us. All fees were extraordinarily reasonable! The day of delivery, right on time, they called both me (the receiver) and my sister (the sender) to confirm they were about to arrive at her home to get the piano. Right on time, the arrived at my door, having maneuvered their huge moving truck down our long driveway. They gangplanked it to our front steps, and three young men muscled this giant load up our stairs and around the maze of our home and rebuilt/installed it on its feet, ready to play. They told me which detail hardware bits were missing so I could warn the gentleman who will tune it to bring the needed parts. Meanwhile, the piano is still in surprisingly good tune. We will definitely ask their piano master to optimize the tuning in a couple weeks, but feel their expert care and handling has given us the pleasure of enjoying it even before that. Thank you, A-1 Piano!!! Cannot recommend them highly enough.

These two guys were truly professionals. They arrived on time, and knew exactly what needed to be done as far as the disassembly of a baby grand piano. Although the piano wasn't to be moved a great distance, they wrapped it and protected it like it was to go around the world. On arriving at the destination, they were very accomodating and stayed until the piano was placed and situated perfectly in the room and carpet protectors placed under each leg. I would highly recommend this company to move any piano.

It is so refreshing to work with a business that truly understands excellent customer service. I highly recommend A-1!
Description of Work: Our experience with A-1 Piano was excellent from the first call I made to the placement of our piano in my living room! We needed to move a baby grand piano from a relative's home to ours - about 80 miles. When I spoke with the owner he was very friendly and professional explaining how the process would work and quoted a price I thought was very reasonable. On the day of the move the drivers arrived on time and quickly and professionally unloaded and set up the piano. They were very accomodating and asked me if the piano was right where I wanted it. These men have worked for A-1 for many years and have a seamless set-up system in addition to being very pleasant to to work with. I forgot to use the 5% off coupon from Angie's List when I paid, so I called the next day, and the owner was happy to adjust the amount I owed. In fact, he suggested I use the 10% coupon that was in Angie's magazine! Over the phone he gave me the new price and I sent him a new check.

I highly recommend A-1. They carefully moved a piano from our home this morning. I had been concerned about possible damage to our new door or to the lovely old piano. This crew of three did a great job--with no damage at all. They were prompt, kind, and excellent at their jobs. Well done and thank you A-1.

This company gave me a bid over the phone. They were on time, professional, and very careful of the piano and the house on either end of the move. The workers were courteous, professional and took care to ensure the piano was moved safely and efficiently. They called the day before to ensure the move was still on, called 30 minutes before they arrived, moved swiftly (and carefully), and delivered the piano in great condition. They even re-attached one of the wheels that had fallen off when they removed it from our home (fell off on its own, not because of them). There was no wasted time...moved efficiently and effectively. We thought it was a bit pricey, even with the Angie's List member discount. Recommend A-1 to move your piano, especially if you care about your piano like we do!

Can we rate them an A+? We had an excellent experience, would highly recommend A-1 Piano Moving. We won't consider using anyone else when we need to move it again. The three fellows were very friendly, helpful ("Don't place the piano over a heating vent"), and professional. My advice to anyone who uses them: tip the movers well as they deserve it! We are very pleased.

It went very well overall. They do these all the time, so they made it look effortless (dismantling the legs, etc.). The workers were very friendly and careful - - no bumping door-frames, etc. There was a small bit of confusion about the fee for the board/pads, but after I called A-1, they offered a very thoughtful and reasonable solution; I was impressed with their integrity and will give them all their pads and piano board back to them when I hire them to move it back into place! When entering a contract with pure intentions, it is always refreshing and reassuring to work with a vendor who is similarly-minded and upholds high standards of service, courtesy and goodwill. Thank you A-1.
Description of Work: We had our baby grand piano moved into storage, and hired A-1 to prepare it for storage (with pads/blankets and a board to keep it off the ground) and move it. They did a very professional job, and A-1 was very courteous and helpful about suggestions on how to store it properly, as well as very generous with selling me a board to use during our storage period (we stored it in a different storage facility rather than store it with A-1). I hired them previously to do 2 piano moves, and they are very professional about carefully going over your piano to point out existing dings, so that there are no misunderstandings about them marring your piano. I will hire them again, after our renovations are done, to move it back and set it up properly.

Two very nice and courteous gentlemen arrived with our family piano. We had a call early on the scheduled delivery day to ask if it would be ok if they were about a half hour later than promised. I told them no problem. They actually arrived ontime and the total charge was less than the estimate! How often does that happen? Both men were very friendly and careful with our piano. I give them the highest rating all around.

The job was easy to schedule with Bret, and he was prepared to deal with the complications of using a hoist to get the piano out of my house (would not fit down stairs). On the day of the job, Bret and a coworker arrived early to look at the house and plan the job for that afternoon. Later in the day, Bret arrived with his crew and all of the equipment. They put the equipment together and got to work. They were very careful in loading and lowering the piano on the hoist and got it safely into the truck. They brought it over to the new place and moved it in without any problems. They did a great job on a fairly complicated piano move, and did it for the price that Bret had quoted. I would highly recommend A-1 Piano Movers.

The movers worked hard, were careful not to bump walls, and were very friendly. I had two issues though, one of which was not the fault the of the movers. There was miscommunication about the cost estimate by phone but the lead mover worked with me and made a compromise. I suggest getting a written or emailed detailed estimate beforehand. The other problem was that at the delivery house, the piano had to go around outside and down a few wooden steps. Due to the weight of the piano and the movers, one of the steps was cracked. Overall I was very pleased and would use them again.

Fast, efficient, and just the nicest guys! I needed a baby grand piano moved from a friend?s house in the Seattle?s Greenwood neighborhood to my house in the Redmond?s English Hill neighborhood and went on Angie?s List to find one. There weren?t a lot of reviews on piano movers and the only two had an Angie?s ?Super Service Award.? A-1 Piano had the most reviews (18) so I went with them. I called to set up an appointment, scheduler was extremely friendly and was able to set up a time on my preferred moving date. On the day of the move the crew was early and called to see if they could start earlier than expected, which was great! The 3 man crew was extremely friendly and very nice. They handled every part of the piano with care. They were professional, patience, took their time, and moved the piano as if it was their own. I was impressed (having just moved from Seattle to Redmond I didn?t see this much care with our other movers). All-in-all they were fantastic and I can?t think of a single negative or warning to post.
