He did a super job of helping me understand the current state of the foundation. Based on the current state, he indicated the foundation is currently in good shape and there is no need for repair at this point. He also pointed out some areas to watch that could be indicators of problems that should addressed if they occur in the future.

They informed me that there are no issues with the foundation and that I need to have the drain pipe sealed off since it is and extra pipe and not necessary. They were prompt and effiecient and are going to send me pictures of what they inspected.

 + -1 moreThey visited me and gave me the plan how to eliminate humid from basement. First time they reroute the drain from down sprout to back yard. But my backyard is all where water goes so they went out the second time to reroute the drain again to the front where water flow down to sewer line. Even though there have extra cost for them to do that. They charged me NOTHING! They make sure they get the work right. I m totally satisfied!!

 + -1 moreWe had the work completed by a different company. Brad reached out to us after I posted my original review and after some discussion we figured out there was definitely some miscommunication between us. For that reason I revised my review.
Description of Work: I have revised my review after being contacted by Matvey. Due to noticing a 3/4" step in the floor between the original part of our house built in 1944 and the addition built in 1965 along with some cracking ceiling sheet rock we called Matvey for a foundation repair estimate at the recommendation of a friend. Brad arrived on time and was very professional and friendly. I showed him the problems we were seeing and also pointed out a large, low spot in the kitchen floor which is in the original part of the house. He spent quite awhile in the crawlspace under the house and then inspected the entire foundation from outside the house. We received our estimate 2 days later. The bid included installing several push piers and smart jacks along with repairing some cracks in the concrete foundation. The drawing provided showed installing a push pier below the kitchen window to fix the "hole" I had pointed out in the kitchen floor. I questioned Brad at the time how the tiny foundation crack could possibly be causing that large dip in the floor. Brad indicated that there was no way to tell for sure what was the cause but that the push pier would probably fix it. I almost called and had Matvey do the work, but I just didn't feel comfortable about that pesky hole in the kitchen floor so I called another local company to give us another bid. Long story short...there was absolutely nothing wrong with the foundation in the area where the hole in the kitchen floor was. It was dry rot in the plywood subfloor. The push pier would've done nothing to fix it. Also, Brad had told us that we may need to cut a 2' X 2' hole in our living room floor so the workers could access the area more easily due to the small access hole in the crawl space. Most likely we would have had to incur cost to replace the carpet in the entire room to accommodate that request. The other company did not require an access hole for their equipment. There were a few engineering differences I won't go into, but honestly once I found out about the access hole and that the push pier would not have fixed the kitchen floor we went with the other company even though their bid was $4000 more. I feel kinda bad writing this review as Brad was a really great guy, he spent a lot of time with us, and my husband and I really liked him. |

 + -1 moreI rated Matvey construction as lower mainly because of really bad scheduling issues and service related to it. The work was recently completed so I cant speak on the durability,but with a 3 year warranty I believe that Matvey will stand by their work and I'm very happy with the quality so far. Scheduling and attention to peoples times was really bad. Matvey truck broke down so they had to cancel on me on the day I was waiting for them at my home even though the truck had broken down the day before. I can understand these things happened but I was expecting a call or message early instead of waiting and having to call them. After being rescheduled a week later, I was in the exact same situation: I was waiting at my home and they never showed up, so after calling them they told me the truck never got fixed. Second strike for really bad service. After ranting on the phone they apparently started to improve their 101 customer service and called me in advance that they had to reschedule yet again. Frustrated that a month had gone by I asked for a discount and they were OK giving me one which at least shows that they care about customer service, just not really good at executing it...

 + 1 moreThis was an absolutely wonderful experience. As a new homeowner, I wanted to learn more about my property and their Angie's List deal was a perfect opportunity to identify and potential for long-term foundation issues, drainage concerns, and potential options for repairing and / or replacing some of my older concrete slabs. At the scheduled time, two very cheerful Matvey engineers arrived and we started taking a look around the exterior of the house. As we started looking around the exterior, they took the time to talk to me about any potential concerns I had, areas to which I might like to have special attention given, and generally got to know me and my house. Looking at the concrete slabs, they were able to identify options for re-leveling those that had shifted over time, noting the areas of some slabs that might be more problematic than others. Examining my drainage, they verified that the current arrangement was largely adequate; the one area that was of concern was identified and explained in quite a bit of detail, and they indicated what the proper resolution would be (which I could handle myself). Completing the exterior analysis, they expertly identified a few areas that they suggested be monitored for any shifting, providing me with the monitoring devices and instructions for installing them properly. The interior analysis involved taking measurements of all ceilings to identify any shifts in the structure of the house - they took a good number of measurements from both levels. They also thoroughly inspected the lower level for any signs of water penetration. I would note that I was both surprised and very pleased to discover that they were both very pet-friendly people. Having completed their measurements, they summarized the result of the visit and were merrily on their way. Within a few days, I had estimates for the identified issues and a report that detailed the examination and findings. It was an absolute pleasure to meet both the engineers, get to know them, and have them perform such a careful and professional analysis of our home. Thanks to them, we have exactly the information we were hoping to get and will definitely be utilizing them in the future. Thank you both so much!

Specifically, he became a bit sarcastic when I asked he if he would guarantee his work, and he misinformed me by saying that he would provide a written guarantee for the work when he drafted the estimate. When I received the estimate, however, it stated specifically that there were no guarantees on the work.

 + -1 moreThe thing I liked was that they were in and out in basically a day and a half. They were able to pretty much level the house. The thing I didn't like was that the salesman that came out told me they could do 2 things. He told me they could fix the leaning wall and they could raise the house. In fact, when all was said and done, they raised the house but they did not fix the leaning wall. They should have been clear with me and set expectations and said well there is only a 10% chance that we can fix the leaning wall. When all was said and done I was disappointed because although the house is level, the wall is still visually leaning. I was very disappointed about that. I called the salesman back and told him. He was very nice about it. He said he remembered specifically talking about that and that it was important to you. The owner of the company, let's just say we were in disagreement. He wasn't part of the original discussion that caused me to sign the contract but the salesman, he was just part of coming out and doing the work. There was a pretty big distance as far as my expectations. As far as leveling the house, I would recommend them but as far as setting expectations, not very good at all. The salesman said yeah we can do that, we do that all the time. I was very excited and when all was said and done, they did not make progress on the leaning wall. I thought that the price was reasonable. I thought that the quality of the work that they did do was good. I thought they were generous and they did a couple of extra things. They put in a small drain line for me and didn't charge me for that. They excavated some concrete and didn't charge me for that. I thought they were very knowledgeable, very knowledgeable at what they did. My only disappointment is the salesman told me one thing but when it came down to getting the work done, they were unable to do what he said they could do and that was part of the reason I selected them.
Description of Work: I last used Matvey Construction about 6 weeks ago to raise the corner of an 85 year old house about 2 and a half inches back to level.

Description of Work: Matvey Construction was one of two companies we got an estimate for work to support and lift the foundation wall for 2 rooms. The Matvey foundation work estimate was lower than the other company's estimate; their estimate also included work for reconfiguring the downspout drain pipes into catch basins rather than tying the drain pipes into the existing storm drain pipes. We opted to hire an independent structural engineer and apply for a Seattle City DPD permit and chose to work with the other company.

 + 3 moreMatvey Construction has been an incredible help to us and our building. We're a multi unit co-op building with a leaking and basement and a small budget. We carefully selected a contractor and paid a lot of money for a repair that ultimately did not fix the problem - so frustrating. Second time around, thankfully, we were referred to Matvey Contruction. Mat has patiently addressed all of our questions and explained every step of the project along the way both to our Board and also to the actual building tenants at a building-wide meeting. He's spent many evening hours in long meetings with us explaining the details, and maintained clear communication with us throughout the length of the project. Now their project is complete, and he has continued to help us with (no cost) advice and guidance as we address another problem that was uncovered as part of the water analysis. Basically this firm was and is extremely upfront and trustworthy, and truly acted with our best interests at heart. In the vast and often confusing world of selecting a construction firm, they are one of the best. I would work with them again in a heartbeat and recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Mat and his team completed a detailed water analysis of our building and then a full basement repair, including re-leveling the building, a partial seismic retrofit and a stairwell repair. Mat's understanding of structural analysis and repairs is unparalleled - they REALLY understand what is going on in a building that is failing - and how to fix it. Above and beyond the high quality and affordable work they did for us, the truly great thing about this firm is the level of customer service and care they put into our project.

He pointed out areas of concern, listed possible causes for some of the moisture, and also gave extensive ways to fix the problems. He had a bid to us the next day, outlining in detail what would be done. Altho we have chosen to go a much less expensive route, we were impressed by his knowledge, and professionalism. We will keep him in mind as a source of other construction type work and repairs.
Description of Work: we called Matvey for an estimate on repairing water drainage/collection underneath our ranch-style home. It seems to be connected to heavy rains, and to downspouts needing to be handled differently.

 + -1 moreBy the time we fired him from the job in December 2006 the project was 75% over budget, the upper deck leaked into the dining area, work was not complete, finish work and large sections of the slate floor have to be redone, over $1,000 of kitchen cabinets had been damaged and we had to settle two liens one of which we ended up in court over. Work quality was generally average or less while the billing rate/costs were what you would expect for top level work. Technically we have a 2 year warranty but have chosen to hire other contractors rather than risk having him on the property again.
Description of Work: We contracted with Matvey Construction in January 2006 as the general contractor to build a custom home for us from the foundation up.
