They were great! It took them over 7 hours, but they were determined to get it done for us. We will be having them out again to check our foundation and would not hesitate to use them again if we need additional work.
Description of Work: Matvey added hydrolic supports to our front column in an area that had broken off the concrete slab. They then lifted 4 sections of concrete and stabilized the broken piece.

Matvey did an excellent job from beginning to end. They worked with me to develop an affordable solution to my concrete wall issues and completed the work on time and as promised. They stuck to their scheduled appointment to conduct an assessment and provide a quote and their workmen worked hard to complete the job to quality standards and on time. I have had a lot of contractors working over the past year on the home we recently purchased and Matvey is one of only two of about six contractors that I will ever deal with again. They are honest, work quickly and provide quality products and work to ensure best value for the money. I am considering another project and will definitely give them the first opportunity to bid it. Thanks Matvey!

We were very pleased with the experience of working with Matvey. Steve their sales guy, Roman the installer and Rose in the office were great to with. After the job was completed, we noticed water continued to pool in a small section of the driveway. Matvey sent another tech out and he used a concrete saw to cut a small channel in the driveway to drain the water. Problem solved! I have recommended Matvey to friends who need some work done on the pathway to their front door.
Description of Work: Matvey injected a "polylevel" material into our concrete driveway to eliminate the pooling of water on our driveway. The process took about 4 hours.

I think I got excellent value out of this inspection. The person that visited our house provided a lot of valuable technical information that was useful in informing subsequent decisions. The company also provided an estimate for the total cost of fixing all issues encountered. I don't know if the bid was competitive as far as the price/quality ratio goes, because I haven't requested other bids, and didn't get the work done yet. I would seriously consider getting a bid from this company if I decided to pursue the issues that were found and fix them.
Description of Work: Inspected cracks in the foundation, examined the interior of the house for possible issues.

We are in contract to purchase a house. Our general inspector noted foundation problems (wood-to-soil contact, pest infestation, decay in the timbers, evidence of extensive pest burrows possibly under the piers, lack of anchoring, and at least one location where the post and beam foundation was slipping) and recommended that we bring out a structural engineer for a second opinion. I purchased a foundation assessment through Angie's List from Matvey. The appointment scheduling was smooth. When I talked to the scheduler, she agreed that it would be useful for their engineer to see the first inspector's report, so I forwarded it to their office by email. When Matvey's engineer arrived at the house, he had not seen the inspection report. We described the findings of the original inspection, and the engineer set to work inspecting the house and foundation. We started to worry when the engineer came out of the crawlspace. We asked what he thought of the things that the original inspector had noted (with many photos), and he said he hadn't noticed wood-to-soil contact or signs of infestation or signs of burrowing. The photos from the inspector seemed to demonstrate such extensive incidence that we were confused how the engineer couldn't have seen these things. After pressing him for a recommendation, he said that he felt that the timbers used in the foundation should be removed. At this point, he said that he would have a report for us that day or the next day. He also said that we could call him with any questions we had. We had made it clear that we were on a short time frame to respond to the sellers of this house, so would need to quickly decide what our next steps were. Unfortunately, the report did not arrive that day, nor the next. On the third day I had to call the Matvey office three times to get the report. The first two times the receptionist said that she would contact the engineer to ask for the report and get back to me. Neither time did she call back. Finally the third time (mid-afternoon) I told her I was very frustrated and needed the report today, due to the deadline with my offer. She actually contacted the engineer and called me back to let me know that I would receive the report that afternoon. While I was happy to finally get the report, since it arrived at 4:30 on a Friday afternoon, that did not give me much time to review and ask questions. The report itself was confusing. The recommendation that the engineer provided when he was on site was not in the report. The report was extremely brief and somewhat vague. So we sent an email asking for some clarification. To which nobody ever responded. This was a frustrating experience and was a complete waste of time and money. This foundation assessment did not provide any information we could use in considering what to do about our house purchase. The one thing that we have gotten out of this experience is confidence that we would never use or recommend Matvey Construction.

I worked with Jonathan for both phases of my project. He was awesome in that he took the time to educate me on the entire process, answered all of my questions and helped me through all of the concerns that I had. This was a fairly substantial project and I appreciated him helping me through it and going over everything during the process and at the end to ensure it was really complete. Matt also came out to the house with the lead guy to do the initial assessment before the work began - which was great - he not only answered more questions, but showed interest in the project. It was obvious they were fully prepared to begin the work when they said they were going to do it - in and out in a timely manner. Mae, the scheduling and coordinating expert, was awesome too. It was an easier process overall than I expected and that was likely due to Jonathan and Mae making it all happen without making it complex! I'd definitely recommend Matvey for any foundation repairs.

Bill the estimator, came to my home on time for scheduled appointment. He was personable gentleman, who explained the process Matvey Construction uses to lift concrete areas and the benefits of using the polylevel product. We received the bid within a day, and Bill followed through to make sure we received the e-mail. We worked with Rose, an Account Rep., to schedule the work within 2 weeks of the initial estimate. Rose was very helpful scheduling around my husband shift work, and even allowed us to reschedule at the last minute. The two-man crew who completed our project, were hardworking and professional. They drilled small holes in the areas to be lifted, keeping the plugs to return to the hole. They used a concrete saw to clean out one portion of a joint that was hung up on another section and also cleaned out some of the large cracks to clear out concrete chunks. They took their time by slowly dispersing the material in different holes and not lifting too much in any one area. We believe that the time they took to properly prepare the cracks/joints, and lifting slowly kept my porch and slabs from breaking up or creating new cracks (a common complaint I read about with concrete lifting). The workers finished the project by caulking the remaining cracks and cleaned up everything before they left. Prior to having the work done, our porch, driveway and walkways were unsafe and unsightly. Matvey Construction saved us tens of thousands of dollars on a new slab! We can barely tell where the holes were drilled. We couldn't be more pleased with the results of this project and would highly recommend Matvey Construction to anyone who is thinking of raising a pad, porch or sidewalk. On a final note, we have read some reviews from individuals who have this type of work done through different concrete leveling companies. One complaint is that they receive their estimate and the final cost is actual much higher because additional leveling medium is required to complete the job. Our contract stated that if additional injection exceeds the estimate, we would be charged an additional $12 per pound for a maximum of 15% of the quote. This made me feel much better as the total cost could only increase by $337 regardless of the amount required to finish the job.
Description of Work: Lifted front porch 2", walkway 1.5" and another area 1". They also caulked cracks with Silkaflex.

He spent easily 2 hours with me going over how the structure was, measuring the sloping floors, telling me how cracks occur, how to resolve them (drainage) and helping me get an idea of how to fix the problems, or just give me a rough idea of how much certain improvements would cost (Ex. converting part of crawlspace to basement). These guys know what they are talking about. They even gave me a diagram with the recommended improvements. For the inspection price it was great. I didn't really feel that they were biased in their structural report and that they were honest.

I contacted Matvey and they had a nice young lady named Rebecca come out to give me an estimate to repair the floor in my garage. There was one corner of the garage that had risen a couple inches for some reason and another portion of the floor that had sunk a little. She was nice and even explained that normally she give estimates for sunken floors so that they can use their Poly Level leveling system to re-level the floor. So she couldn't provide me with an estimate but would take pictures and have another co-worker Jon who was more experienced and a structural engineer give me the estimate. Even though I did feel this was starting to look like a waste of my time since she couldn't give me an estimate even though she was the one seeing the problem, I agreed and told her it was okay to email me the estimate. I received a call from their scheduler the next day and she then told me the specialist was unable to give me an accurate estimate without coming out to the house and wanted to schedule another appointment so he could come out and look at the floor the next week. She must have heard the frustration in my voice because she called me back about 15 minutes after we ended the call to say that Jon could provide me with an estimate based on the pictures after all. I received the email with the estimate that next day, but after reviewing it he was talking about install push piers and then leveling the floor, but nothing about the corner of the floor that had risen, which was really my main problem. To make a long story short, Jon ended up coming back out to the house to take more pictures for a new estimate (2 and a half weeks after the first appointment). I never received this new estimate he was supposed to prepare. I only received a follow up call from the scheduler two weeks after that and then she sent me the same estimate they sent 2 weeks before, and never did answer my questions of why was he suggesting push piers when my home's foundation hadn't sunk, just the floor in the garage. They seem to have a pretty good product which is one of the only reasons I gave them so long to get back to me. Unfortunately I will never know if the product is any good because I ended up paying about half of what their estimate was for another contractor here on Angie's List who did a great job and even re-paved my driveway in the cost. All for less than the estimate I was given by Matvey.

I contacted four firms directly through Angie's list. Two never responded, the third did call back and left a voice mail - when I called back the person was out of the office - I left my contact information and never received a response from the company. The experience with Matvey was so much more professional - (customer service is very big part of the corporate culture with this company) within 24 hours I had my response answered and the man who was doing the inspection contacted me and a site visit was arranged the next day. Our site evaluation was very thorough and no pressure... What could have been high pressure sales tactics and pushing us into buying services we did not need did not happen. Our site visit was more like a coaching session. Jason advised us of items we could do ourselves and those that should be left to a professional firm. We agreed on a foam injection process to raise our sunken patio and after signing the bid form - the crew was dispatched the next day! The even arrived before the scheduled time! The crew was polite and respectful, arrived early and cleaned up after themselves when the work was completed. The work was done quickly and at a very reasonable price in my opinion. I had read the reviews on the other companies on Angies list and other sites and was prepared for the worst - It didn't happen. I enthusiastically recommend this company over it's competition and would recommend them to my family and friends should the need arise.
Description of Work: We did the site evaluation and then after reviewing the report, we selected leveling our back porch and garage entry,

We put in for three bids on our patio job. One particular slabjacking company (with lots of tv ads) was pretty slow in returning our call and when they did they weren't available to give a bid any time soon, as testament to how busy this industry is right now - so we didn't bother with them. Matvey was very good in all categories. They provided great service. Came in with the lowest bid. They allowed us to submit pictures of the problem from which they provided an estimate (which ends up being faster and for which they give you a discount on the work). They got the job done faster than predicted and took time to explain what they were doing and why. Their office was on top of communication, very professional, and overall was a good group of people to work with. The ONLY thing I could come up that might be a negative was that the bid is based on an average amount of time and materials they predict would be required to complete the job. They state that if they go over a certain amount they have to charge extra, in our case we required considerably less than average but unfortunately they don't provide a rebate for that. I would highly recommend Matvey.

.Job started 3 days late due to delays on a previous job. Crew arrived on time Monday, 6/29 and installed braces under the foundation on the front, north side of the house and front south side. re-leveled foundation which had settled slightly over the years. This was done manually. Crews also installed pop up drains and conduit to allow water to flow away from the house as it was accumulating in the crawl space, causing some issues. This was done on all sides of the house and interconnected all of our downspouts. Finally, underneath the house, crews installed braces to better support interior walls and stabilize the floor, which was flexing somewhat. While in code, it was annoying and this was taken care of as well as re-leveling the floor in the kitchen and dining areas. They also installed fresh vapor barrier plastic in the entire crawlspace This work took one day longer than scheduled, however, despite some additional purchases, there was not additional cost to us. I am very pleased with the work performed under extreme heat conditions. I would use Matvey again.

The Engineer was great, and gave me a good idea at what I should consider. It wasn't much. There was $500 credit and he mentioned that probably would be around as much as I will be paying for one jack. However company came back to me at first with $1700 for the same thing, and after that they lowered the number to $1500. Still this is way overpriced, compared to what was the cost of the product and added labor. Company's explanation was that they have to send out the truck and a person or two. Maybe tru, however I doubt that would be a full day of work for 2 people and a truck. Pretty disappointed with their cost estimate.

Dear [Member name removed], I understand that you are disappointed by the price of our quote. Please keep in mind that our company does things by the book so we pay for bumper-to-bumper insurance that covers you as a home owner as well as L&I premiums that are some of the highest in the country. What might seem as a minor job to some, can actually require a lot of work and, as an engineering firm, we are in the best position to know whether the job will take long time or will be complicated to install. We have discounted your job by $500 and we gave you an additional $200 discount as a valuable Angie's list customer, but we also need to pay a living wage to our employees who work outside, in the heat or cold, digging or lifting heavy items. We keep our employees and customers satisfied because we don't cut corners and have several engineers on staff who monitor installation process for quality. Please feel free to call us directly if you want proceed with work. We accept credit cards and offer no-money-down financing so that everyone can afford to stabilize their home foundation. Thank you, Mat Cote, Matvey Construction.
