The contractor used top-quality paint and we thought the price was reasonable. He is a young guy, clean cut, and appears to have a handle on getting the job done to the customers satisfaction......eventually. That being said, he was highly recommended by a previous contractor we hired for inside remodeling. The major point of the recommendation was that he "doesn't cut corners". Now that the job is completed I cannot agree with that point of recommendation. The day he was supposed to stop and give me a bid, he arrived earlier than I, looked the place over without any input from me as far as what was desired, and when I called him back, he said he was already gone from my area and left no uncertainty that he was not going to return and talk to me. Instead he made out the bid, submitted it to me by email and I countered a little bit about making sure certain items were painted, particular paint to use, and etc. He told me about a week later that my counter bid was "probably ok". He then agreed to meet with me on a Monday to look over everything with me and then pressure wash on a wednesday prior to painting on the following Monday. He did not show up on Monday as agreed and just confirmed that he would discuss it on Wednesday after the pressure wash. He did that on Wednesday as agreed but the contract he submitted for me to sign was exactly as originally written; not as amended by me. I did not catch that initially. On the following Monday the job was started and completed by the end of the week as predicted. One of the provisions of the contract was that the contractor would clean up each day. I did not know that he would fill up my garbage can with his waste each day. He rinsed his paint equipment over a bank in my back yard and let the material just go over the bank into the dirt. He assured me that he would fill all screw holes and around windows etc where caulking was needed. This was done well around a new door that had been recently installed but scarcely anywhere else. There appeared no end to the broken and damaged rose bush branches as he went about the job. We had a blue glass ball waist high at the rose arbor that sustained a hole in the side of it from some worker but I was not informed about that and had to find that out by myself later when I saw bits of glass strewn about the back patio. At the end of the job I had to have him come back and touch up over a dozen areas where the trim was messy looking or not applied with enough paint or oversprayed. I did not think it was my job to pay him and also clean up his waste so I gathered up paint junk and left it on my front porch with instructions for him to attend to that. He changed out the outer door seal for the garage door and had quite the problem with that. Needing to change out a piece that did not go in well, he carved out a chunk in the trim to make room for the remote mounted door opener rather than move the door opener. He thought it was wired versus wireless but did not try to contact me to confirm. Communication was a problem in this job as whenever I wanted to contact him, he did not return emails or phone calls very well. It is safe to say he did it when and as it served him. I had sent him a detailed email saying I was not happy having the chunk cut out of the trim and that to please replace the piece. He did not replace it and said he did not receive the email but he did complete some of the other defects that were only raised in that email. All in all, the job turned out satisfactory but only thru a lot of fine-tooth comb inspection by myself of his work and keeping him accountable for the job his company did. We did not pay him until the job was done and the paperwork was completed. As I said, there were red-flags from the beginning with this contractor as far as how he conducted business. He said he would have to have a meeting with his workers about leaving stuff on a customer's property, the quality of the work, etc. In my opinion (and I told him personally the last day), I hired him; not the people who represent him. I will say that I have no doubts my $$ spent very well when he cashed my check and he received full payment the last afternoon he was here and redid the job to our final satisfaction. I believe when you do a job, you are the company and when you are completed, you do the inspection yourself; not the customer. And if you find issues, you take care of them. The customer shouldn't have to pick up after you and pay you as well. This report is truthful and complete to the best of my knowledge.
Description of Work: Contractor painted entire outside of house including garage door and back porch and side fences.

After leaving a message the company owner called me back promptly that late afternoon. He quoted the job personally and I could tell by his vehicle that he was not a "fly by night" outfit. I felt his truck/van was clean, prepared to do any job and he was professional and clear in his conversation, bid, and arrival. On arrival, his crew worked hard and fast, but not too fast as to skip the details. They pressure washed the entire house (it was hot out and dried quickly) and carefully painted trim and under eaves as I expect from a professional. They were very careful and conscientious of my gardens that surround the entire home. No splashes, spills, or bad edges. They painted better than the original contracted paint when it was built. We chose a dark green with light cream trim which can be a tough color in our hot sun. The paint job was gorgeous and matched perfectly when our house was first built. The crew was diligent at cleaning up and was very pleasant as they worked. It appeared to me that the men Color Effects hires are veterans in their craft and enjoy working for him. My neighbors commented on the quality and I subsequently recommended Color Effects around town. I will certainly use Color Effects for both exterior and interior work in the future.
Description of Work: I inquired of Color Effects after seeing their truck outside of a home in my area. I desired an exterior painting quote for my craftsman style 2000'sq ft. home. Color Effects promptly quoted and completed the job in the colors I specified.

Color Effects promptly returned my call and wanted to resolve the fade soon. He contacted the paint manufacturer used in the job and the local rep came out to review. Upon review, they felt that a simple spray wash would clear up the apparent faded zones of the rear facing wall. Neither Color Effects nor I was satisfied or in agreement with that analysis. But in order to clear warranty, Color Effects came out and performed the actions suggested by the paint company’s local representative. Color Effects owner made it clear to me that no matter what happened with the paint vendor, he would honor the warranty and repaint the sides of the house impacted by the fading effect. Not just the most prevalent but most of the sides where he and I felt were showing wear. He did just that! How many contractors honor without questioning a warranty that their own vendor fails to honor? I was reminded that Color Effects is one of the most upstanding quality contractors in the region. There was no bitterness, no attempts at denying my claim of fading, and full information as to when he would repaint and what products he would use in replacement of the original paint manufacturer. He was even talkative and friendly as he came to the house to do the follow up work. I simply believe that kind of customer service, follow up, and attention to the details is hard to find. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND using Color Effects for all your painting needs.
Description of Work: [Color Effects follow up on 3 year old paint job] Having used and raved about Color Effects painting contractor in the past. Three years into my paint job (of which I loved) the dark color had faded in ways that were unappealing on one side of the house where the sun beats most. I called Color Effects for him to review since I paid for a 20yr+ guarantee against fading.

Chris did an excellent job. We were out of town while he painted. When we returned the house was painted. He did a great job including some areas that were very high up. There was no mess to have to clean up and no areas that needed touch up. He was very reasonably priced.
Description of Work: We had most of the interior painted. Ceilings and walls.
