I called The Plumbing Joint in Renton using Angie's List. The receptionist had Jim come out within two hours to assess the situation. Jim was professional and took time to diagnose problem. Jim called the office to have David come out. David spent about 3 1/2 hours fixing the problem. He slowly drained the basement pipes first - too fast would have caused a huge mess. He snaked the inside pipe line with 75 feet of snake. After snaking the inside, he checked the outside clean-out and noticed that water was still not flowing through the sewer line. So he snaked the outside line, using a special head that worked itself through tree roots - and baby wipes (the two main issues). It was back breaking work. David remained positive, professional, and determined to ensure that the job would be done right.
Description of Work: Early in the morning I found a lot of water dripping in basement from several pipes and down through hardwood floors. On first floor the toilet was clogged, the seal was broken and water was overflowing onto bathroom floor and hardwood floors. In addition, the first floor bathroom shower had sewage back-up in it. Our house was built in 1929 and there are unique challenges with how plumbing works. The Plumbing Joint diagnosed problem and spent over three hours snaking sewer line.

The Plumbing Joint was very responsive. We had a plumber at our house in about 4 hours. He was very courteous and professional. Told me exactly what he was going to do. Did it quickly. Cleaned up completely. He didn't have the ideal selection of fittings on his truck but quickly came up with an alternative which was a close second to the ideal solution.
Description of Work: We had a leak in a fitting outside our house spraying a small stream against the house.

My puppy dropped a hard rubber ball into the toilet. We could not extract it. The Plumbing Joint was rated highly on the list. They said they would be here between 11am-1pm. David Perez arrived at 12:30pm, friendly and knowledgeable. We agreed he should remove the toilet rather than risk pushing the ball down the sewer line and having it get wedged somewhere. It took him 30 minutes from start to finish, including clean up. Very professional and efficient!
Description of Work: Removed toilet from base, extracted hard rubber ball blocking drain, replaced toilet and sealed.

My countertop installers were prepping our counter surfaces (& cutting down a breakfast bar) and discovered a vent pipe sitting 2 inches higher than the main counter. We needed a plumber ASAP to lower about 2 feet of pipes 2+ inches before the new countertops could be installed. The plumber came within 1/2 hour and was slightly perplexed as to what he was going to do. Luckily, my countertop installers were quite handy and they advised him on what the best solution was and how to do it. If they didn't help him out, it would've taken him much longer to complete the job. Initially, it sounded as though he would've made it more complicated than it needed to be.
Description of Work: We needed a plumber to lower a vent pipe in a kitchen breakfast bar (that was cut down) so new countertops could be installed. The plumber was very nice and professional.

Jim and his assistant, Allen, were at our house about an hour after I called for service. They were courteous, personable and knowledgeable and offered alternative options for dealing with the problem in toilet #2 and the failure of the garbage disposal, leaving recommendations for the next steps if necessary.
Description of Work: Found cause of toilet #1's back up; replaced part in toilet #2 to halt its self-flushing attempts; installed new garbage disposal when repair proved impossible.

The outdoor faucet was leaking and when I tried to repair it, I discovered that the main water shutoff was not working. I called The Plumbing Joint and scheduled an appointment. They arrived on time and gave my wife several options. We chose the least expensive option which was to install a new in-line shutoff valve. Since the water was already shutoff, we had them replace the outdoor faucet with one we provided.

The pilot light went out on our gas water heater tank, and we couldn't get it restarted. I called The Plumbing Joint to come out for a diagnosis and a fix, if necessary. Their representative arrived on time and stayed about an hour. He replaced the thermal coupler but couldn't get it to work. His next suggestion was to replace a valve, which he would have to get, but there was a good chance that wasn't the issue. The next stop would be a new tank. Our current tank was 12 years old, so that was a realistic possibility. I wanted to research tanks, so I paid for the replacement of the thermal coupler. I had another plumber visit to bid on a tank-less water heater, and after explaining the situation he asked if he could fiddle with the existing tank. Low and behold he got it to work by straightening the coupler wire, which had a crimp in it. I wrote to The Plumbing Joint and asked for either a refund for the misdiagnosis or a replacement of the coupler with working one. They called me very quickly and asked to come out the next day. Two plumbers showed up at 8:00 a.m. and spent another hour on the tank. They were very nice and professional. They explained that the coupler used was new and worked, although it was a different form from those typically used and it had been bent. They replaced it with the more familiar version that I had bought, and the tank has worked perfectly since then.

The minor wetness on the garage floor turned into puddles on a Sunday night. It was not an easy repair. We called two Angie's List plumbers Sunday night and left messages, but neither called back on Monday morning. We called them both back again, and only one answered-- he muttered he may come out later that day if he could. Meanwhile, we had turned off the water to the house and stored extra drinking water on pots and pans on the stove. We called several other Angie's List A-rated plumbers and one called us back, but several of these would not come to our location. A major inconvenience. So we found The Plumbing Joint in Angie's List's booklet. Expensive, but they could come out in less than two hours, so we gave them a shot. The plumber was excellent. He examined all the options with us and showed excellent problem solving skills. Due to a recent remodel, we could not tear up the new patio to find the pipe, so we dug in an alternative location and ran a new pipe and valve into the house. He drilled through the concrete in such a way that the hole was clean and attractive where it would be seen. On the other side, the rough hole that blew through the concrete was smoothed over with repair concrete. The quality of the solder joints, pipe fit, transition fittings from ploy pipe to copper pipe were all first rate. Outside rain water was sealed out with silicone. Everything met or exceeded code. He also gave good advice on details like pipe insulation, re-filling the hole so to protect the new work etc. And he cleaned up nicely. Overall it was an excellent emergency repair, and plumbing experience. We would hire The Plumbing Joint again.
Description of Work: Re-routed the water main into our house's garage. It had started leaking right as it entered through the concrete stem wall...not an easy repair.

I had a plumber from this company cleaning out a tub drain, and while he was there, I asked him what he thought about replacing the leaky faucets and valves in the shower wall. They had been dripping backward into the wall, and leaking into the apartment below. He and an assistant returned and were professional and courteous, and seemed to be good at what they were doing. It took a little longer than I anticipated, but the job was done well and looked good when they left. I was disappointed that the price was over twice what I expected, but was told that when they got into it, there was more that needed replacing than I had thought. I hadn't asked for a specific bid or even an estimate, but perhaps I'm not up to speed on what plumbing costs these days.

A plumber and his assistant showed up at the scheduled time. I showed them the problem and they understood immediately what needed to be done. The whole job was completed in an hour and a half and everything now works correctly. The handles are now lined up properly for the first time ever. I'm very pleased with their work.

The plumber arrived on time, reviewed the 3 minor projects I needed fixed. He quickly fixed the outside faucet, then fixed the running toilet, fixed the tub drain and then confirmed the toilet was fixed. However, there was a strong odor of stale cigarette smoke left in my house when he left. Also, he was very (negatively) opinionated about Angie's List customers and stated his company felt the same. I was very disappointed in his attitude (which I continued to hear about while he was there), however the work was performed quickly and completely.

Plummer was confused & inefficient from the start. After much deliberation, he had my son take a shower. Still stymied, he pondered further & cut into the drywall (which I now have to get repaired.) Finally, I - with no plumbing background whatsoever - looked at the caulking along the bathtub ledge & determined that water was seeping in & the area needed recaulking, a situation the plummer was unable to resolve. When I called to complain about the bill, the General Manager, Chuck Quick(sp?) refused to listen to my version of events, & was extremely defensive & belligerent, despite being unaware which plummer had even made the call (Pat), insisting "Andy's been a plummer for over 20 years." This is not the sort you'd want to meet in a dark alley. The girl who answers the phone isn't much better. Bottom line: I have a $250 charge on my credit card, an unresolved moisture issue & a 2"x9" hole in my wall due to the failure of this plummer to diagnose a simple caulking problem. Addendum: I disputed the $250.00 charge with my credit card company, since The Plumbing Joint refused to be in any way accommodating toward me. After a lengthy investigation on their part, which included The Plumbing Joints' flimsy response, the credit card company issued a charge-back and had the funds returned to me.
Description of Work: Hired to address a small moist area in drywall next to bathtub ledge that had been accumulating for a few months. This was explained to plummer (Pat) when he arrived.

Response from The Plumbing Joint Inc.
WHEN THIS CUSTOMER CALLED WITH A COMPLIANT I WAS OUT IN THE FIELD ON APPOINTMENTS. I WAS BACK IN THE OFFICE THE NEXT MORNING AND PICKED UP THE MESSAGE. WE VERY RARELY RECEIVE COMPLAINTS, BUT IF WE DO WE HAVE HIGH PRIORITY TO INVESTIGATE AND RESPOND, FOR WHICH WE DID. I TALKED WITH OUR DISPATCHER AND WITH PAT, (OUR PLUMBER WHO PERFORMED THE SERVICE CALL). I THEN CALLED THE CUSTOMER; THERE WAS NO ANSWER SO I LEFT A MESSAGE. I CALLED AND TALKED WITH THE HUSBAND AT HIS WORK PLACE AND HE REFERRED ME TO HIS WIFE. I CALLED AGAIN LATER AND CONNECTED WITH THE MEMBER. I LISTENED, WITHOUT INTERRUPTION, TO HER STEP BY STEP DESCRIPTION OF WHAT TOOK PLACE DURING THE SERVICE CALL. BY THE TIME SHE WAS FINISHED SHE WAS UPSET AND CALLING OUR PLUMBER NAMES AND VERBALLY DEGRADING OUR COMPANY, (THE SAME WAY SHE HAD CONVERSED WITH OUR DISPATCHER). I COULDN'T CARRY ON WITH LISTENING TO THE VERBAL ATTACK ANYMORE, SO I FINALLY SAID, COULD I REDUCE THE BILL FROM $333.00 TO $250.00 AND APOLOGIZE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE WE CAUSED YOU, (EVEN THOUGH WE HAD DONE NOTHING UNPROFESSIONAL OR WRONG). SHE SAID YES, SHE PAID AND THAT WAS IT.

He was punctual, cleanly dressed and very polite. He did some preliminary work, taking apart some faucet lines and analyzed the problem. He did not charge me for the work he did and promptly e-mailed me an estimate. I will use this company when I replace my sink. Give the Plumbing Joint a 5-star rating.
Description of Work: The company was called for an estimate to replace a section of galvanized pipe and for a partially plugged faucet on the hot water side. After listening to my story he analyzed that I didn't need to replace the pipe but the problem was probably a particle of debris from the pipe (which was my fault for scraping it when I had it apart) He took the faucet line apart trying a reverse flush and put it back together for me. He determined the problem was a piece of debris lodged in the faucet. He gave me an estimate, left without charging for his work that he did do and left the decision to me. I took the line apart, discovered the debris and the faucet works fine. I asked him for an estimate for another sink and he e-mailed that to me promptly.

Description of Work: One of my outside faucets could not be shut off completely, another was dripping when a hose was connected. The first faucet was replaced with a new and much more convenient one. The second one got a new washer in an attempt to save cutting into the house wall. It seemed to be working fine but unfortunately when I connected the hose the drip was back. It will have to be repaired at an later date.

Plumber arrived about 1/2 hour after the stated window, but that was not an issue for me. When he arrived, after looking at the situation, he explained that in his experience, if you don't investigate the possible problem at the intake baffle, then the blockage issue may re-appear in very short order. After discussing this for a few minutes, we agreed that we should look for the baffle. As described above, he was unable to access the baffle, as a bit of digging and probing revealed that the baffle was inaccessible. He then proceeded to pull the toilet, snake the drain and replace the toilet. The whole process, from start to finish, took about 1-1/2 hours. We had a similar issue with this drain, and the plumber that we called ended up charging us close to $600 for the same work.
Description of Work: Had a drain in basement that had backed up. Initially attempted to find the incoming baffle on the septic tank, which would have been the optimum long term solution, but determined that the baffle was inaccessible under the front porch. Then proceeded to pull the toilet and run a snake through the drain, which was successful.
