Lack of communication from the beginning. Contractor pushed to install wall/fence despite torrential downpours. Did not communicate installers plan to work till after 8pm or all weekend with me. Fence was built too high (by that I mean the fence was 6' in height but there was a 1-3' gap at the bottom between rock wall and fence bottom. The main purpose of fence was to keep in two dogs, this was unacceptable. The contractors idea to fix this was to push rock up to the base of the fence (creating a slope); however as the retaining wall was below the level of the fence this rock would eventually settle and push over the wall. The dogs run the fence line. The post were not measured out to standard width so the contractor had to slap in 2" pieces in various places, the gaps between boards were not standard some had gaps of 1-1/2" to make up the difference, one gate had 2" gaps, the finishing work on the boards was horrible (meaning there were many boards that appeared to be rotting, pitting, pealing and the edges were shaved), the other gate has 1/2" gaps between boards (swelling when wet still doesn't fill in the gaps as the contactors idea was to spread the boards about to make the gaps appear smaller). Within of days of installation many of the boards were warping, splitting and cracking (45 boards). In a week the back gate would no longer open and had a 2" gap between post and gate. While the contractor fixed some of the issues, everything was an argument and there are still items that have never been fixed. Getting the contactor to communicate was a major issue as in many cases it took days of phone calls and emails to get a response. The retaining was nice however far to short as a direct result of the fence being to high. The wall did not wrap around - one side did the other had a large gap which I complained about and the contractors idea was to pile rocks on top of the gap! This was unacceptable. The drainage is a huge concern and time will tell if this wall is going to drain and not slide. I do have to say the wall was the only thing that went fairly well on this project. Clean up was never completed despite repeated assurances that it would occur (rock was swept off driveway and tossed into bark (it's still there), walkway sunk in mud, nails left in rocks, nails sticking out of trim that has already cut someone, etc.) Contractor came over to fix some of the issue and broke a statue (no one came and knocked on my door or called me) they just shoved the statue in a bush and left. Work is still not done and contractor refuses to respond. Do not hire! I would be happy to supply communication copies and pictures that were taken throughout the process. Frankly I'm left with uncompleted work and a broken item that is more sentimental than anything as it was my mother's who is no longer with us. I'm stunned and amazed at what this contractor has done. I gave a lot of thought before submitting this and gave the contractor many opportunities to rectify and he has chosen not to.

Response from CANBER CORPS
Your member is completely off base and not telling the truth. First, her claim of "lack of communication", I have 36 email exchanges with her dating back to January 2014. I have had numerous on-site meetings, the first one was 10:00 am on January 16, 2014, and several phone conversations. Also, I have had exchanged messages via phone and text. I have saved 3 of her vulgar and threatening messages on my voice mail. I did, in fact, communicate that we would need to work late and into the weekend because she canceled the start date in April and we always strive to keep to our scheduled commitments. She was concerned that it would rain (which it did not). I did not push her, she scheduled the work. Torrential downpours is untrue. Regarding her complaint of the "fence to high" in unfounded. A 6' fence is a 6' fence. (member name removed) indicated the level of the fence she wanted. Her claim of 1'-3' gaps is ludicrous. I would have had to use 12' 4" X 4" posts to accomplish that. 1" to 3" gaps is per industry standard. She never mentioned the purpose was to contain dogs (not a dog kennel) but to replace her fallen fence. Her belief that the compacted gravel would settle and push over a basalt rocker is unfounded. No boards were rotting, pitted or peeling. The wall was build to industry standard and was not short, and was never intended to wrap around. It was (members name removed) idea to "pile rocks on top of the gap". Her concern regarding drainage is silly; I am a surface water management expert with 38 years in the industry. The cleanup was completed, which she thanked me for in email #32. And lastly, no one from my company or the fence contractor broke her statue. In closing, I took this job after months of communications, I dealt with King County on her behalf, talking to and dealing with several different municipal agencies. Her neighbor's warned me about her, but I agreed to do the job anyway. I am a reputable landscape contractor who in 30+ years has never had an unhappy customer. I would not hesitate to use my fencing subcontractor again as he has always produced quality work.

Bill/invoice came charging additional for commute to job of 2 hours. This was not disclosed up front and was not charged on previous years work. Made calls to clairfy billing. Took 6 weeks to get a return call. Issue still unresolved.

Called them twice. First time they did answer the phone and said they would get back to me regarding an estimate, I never heard back. Called again several weeks later, left a message and no response at all.
