The deal said that the job would be scheduled within 48 yours. It did not mean that they would come within 48 hours, it meant that they would call you to schedule within 48 hours. Actually scheduling the job would have been over 2 weeks out. This is an unacceptable time lag. The representative on the phone was good about telling me how to get a refund of the deal from Angie's List.

We were very pleased - they we're prompt, courteous and professional. Zach arrived right on time, was efficient and followed up right after with a report and offer to provide an estimate for a heat pump/AC which we are considering. When the time comes we will most likely use these guys - they were great.

With the tax rebates being offered at the time by the Federal Gov't in 2011, we had a Navien tankless water heater installed by Mechanical Services of Redmond Washington located on Willows Road. I am not here to bash anyone. I'm writing to share my ongoing horrible experience with this company and hopefully provide information that will enlighten and help you make an informed decision regarding which company you choose to work with. I used UMS over the last 5 years and I'm telling you from experience that they do not take care of their customers. I would unequivocally recommend that all stay away from this company because they do not offer the basic level of quality service that I have come to expect from vendors on Angie's list. In fact, I'm totally surprised that they have an "A" rating based on my experience. Things appeared to go smoothly with the installation of the Navien tankless water heater except for the fact that the water temp was never consistent. One of the main reasons we installed the Navien over the other brands was because we were told that the technology in the Navien unit offered a consistent flow of hot water whereas the other brands fluctuated in the water temperature. We addressed this with the company and they told us the problem with our water temp fluctuations resulted from other plumbing issues and not the Navien unit. OK. We went with it. UMS never tried to help us rectify the situation. And although we sought out other building and plumbing professionals, the problem was never fixed. In 2011, a major part of the unit (heat exchanger) died. This is one of the things that I have come to realize is an indication of a faulty unity. The heat exchanger is the main brain of this water heater. It was replaced without incident. Another problem with the unit was discovered in the summer of 2014. One of it's valves sprung a pin hold leak and wasn?t discovered until it had caused somewhere upwards of $30,000 to $50,000 thousand dollars worth of damage to our kitchen. This does not include the $7,000 dollars of water mitigation and the $13, 000 plus of hotel fees and food. (We have been staying at various hotels in Kirkland since the incident was discovered because of the plethora of mold thatwas present). After the water damage was mitigated, we had a certified industrial hygienist go through our house and he discovered the water mitigation company hadn?t finished cleaning up everything. The water mitigation company kindly returnedto finish the job. Shortly before the CIH was to do a follow up inspection, the Navien unit sprung another pin-hole leak. There was no additional damage to the home due to the fact that it was discovered in time. When the second pin-hole leak was discovered (on a Friday late afternoon) I called UMS and told them what had happened. I spoke with Quenton who was on call and told him all the problems we had been experiencing with the UMS installed Navien unit and he refused to come out unless I agreed to pay an after hours fee. I figured out how to turn off the water off and left our home. At this point, we couldn?t even be at our house to do any kind of work without having to run out to use the bathroom our wash our hands. After the weekend, I called UMS to ask the contract I signed to have them install the Navien unit. With our house being in such an upheaval due to the incident, I had a difficult time locating my contract. I spoke with Kimmie, (Kimberly) who said she would get back with me in the next couple of hours so that I could pick it up. She didn?t contact me as promised. In fact, she has never contacted me. I called back several more times and she told me that the contract had been given to some guy by the name of Kirk. This was 4 days after my initial phone call. By this time, I already knew who Kirk was because I had told him about my problem a few days earlier. He promised to contact the distributor of the unit and get back with me. It has been nearly a week and I haven?t heard from Kirk. The fact that my entire family has been displaced for over a month would lead me to believe that things would happen a bit more expeditiously. No. I have not heard back fromKirk yet. The fact that I wasn?t being successful with UMS led me to call the manufacturer of the installed unit. I was transferred to someone in technical support who told me that the unit was under warranty and they would send out the parts to get the unit working. 2 things: The warranty runs out in November of this year, and the unit has shown to be problematic from the beginning. Ultimately, I?m not going to replace my kitchen until that unit is replaced. It?s breaking at the seems I do not need to go through this kind of h*** again if the unit springs another leak. Navien was contacted again to find out what they will do in regards to claims. I spoke with Lisa in customer service and she said she would email me the documents that needed to be filled out. I have never heard again from Lisa. No email. No phone call. And to put it in the colloquial?no nothin?. In the last few days, I?ve become aware that Navien units are notorious for the type of problems I?m experiencing. And there you have it. If this review helps steer you away from UMS, then this might encourage the folks there to do what's right for customers who need their help in their time of need. For now STAY AWAY from Universal Mechanical Services. I know how this company treats their customers in the long run. Go with someone else whom you can determine has a track record of great customer service in the long run and not someone who gets good reviews on work they?ve done recently. I?m a long term kind of guy. I want to make sure that the company I work with is gonna be there for me when I need them. UMS will turn their back on you. DON?T USE THEM is my advice.

This company is really awesome. They responded to my initial inquiry immediately. They set up an appointment right away even though we were in a rare Seattle heat wave and they were really busy. The morning of our appointment, the city decided to re-pave our road and nobody could get within a block of our house. But, their tech, Josh showed up right on time. HE HIKED IN!!! He quickly checked every AC register in our house and found the ones with problems. Then he crawled under the house and reconnected the registers with issues. Now, everything is working just the way it's supposed to. It's really gross under our house but Josh smiled the whole time. He explained everything he did and answered all my questions. He had to make a couple of hikes back to his van for items but he was really great about it. What an amazing attitude! After it was all done, he gave me an invoice that was well below what I had expected to see. Great responsiveness, great service and a very fair price for the work done. Definitely a 5 star performance.

It went very well. I had purchased this as a gift for my son buying his first home. Kimberly kept me in the loop through the scheduling process. As this is a gas furnace we felt it important to have it checked out. The tech told my son the furnace is about 75% effective and could sell him a new one (that was expected - don't miss the opportunity to make a sale). As with most first time home buyers, just getting the house closed and moving in clears out any spare cash. There was no pressure and the tech advised the furnace is in very good condition and should work well for quite a while.
Description of Work: The tech came out, inspected and cleaned the furnace in my son's first home. He also installed a new filter. The house had been emptly for a while so wanted to make sure the furnace was in good working order.

I had purchased the Angie's List Big Deal coupon ("$79 for an Early Bird A/C Tune-Up OR Furnace Tune-Down and much more!"). Sounded like a good deal at the time. However, I came to find out that I needed to purchase TWO coupons, totaling $158. The fine print stated that a coupon needed to be purchased for EACH piece of the system - one for the heat pump plus another for the furnace. Turned out not to be such a "Big Deal" after all. Not knowing who set the terms for the coupon, it is difficult to assign blame. Nevertheless, it reflects poorly on Angie's List for advertising such a mediocre coupon in such a "wow, this is a big deal" way. As for the actual work done by Universal Mechanical Services, they did the job competently. The furnace/heat pump was only three years old, and it checked out fine. It only took the technician a half an hour to do the inspection. I am giving a grade of "A" for Responsiveness, since I had asked the technician to inspect the installation of the piping and insulation under the crawl space (installed by another company). That is something that I was told is not part of a regular inspection, but he did oblige. I believe he did a good job.

I contacted them needed service on my A/c but they told me that they send out someone for the tune-up but he would not be able to diagnose and repair my a/c; only the tune-up. If he was half-way through the tune-up and found it needed repair he would have to stop and send someone else out.

We have an older furnace but it still has some life left in it. It is a 90% well known manuf. that caused us lots of problems in the early days. It was amazinigly clean. However, upon request we did get an on the spot bid for a new heart exchange furnamce/airconditioner that we will install in the next few years. This company is very highly rated and we would use them again and plan to.

They were good. They were on time and showed up when they said they would. They came out to check the heater in the early fall and they suggested that it would be better to do the work with the air conditioner when it's warmer. I had a little problem contacting them in the beginning but it was a problem with their computer; other than that, I've had no problems. They show up a little early.
