Description of Work: The service representative arrived on time and was courteous and professional. He was to clean and check the performance of the furnace. He misdiagnosed the problem when the system did not operate after his work was done. He believed a new thermastat was needed. After consultation with the home office he admitted to me that it was not the thermastat; he was wrong. I thought that was not only honest that he admitted an error but an honorable thing to do. I was left with a non-operating furnace which was not the case prior to the service. I called the home office and explained the situation and someone was sent out the next day. The service representative was efficient, knowledgeable and had the furnace functioning efficiently in a short time. It appears to be a hard balance between getting the newer service reps involved and overworking the tried and true, but that is not only with this company, from past experience it seems to be the case with others. I don't hold the initial misdiagnosing (which had me purchase new thermastats) against the company (I returned the products). They quickly and effectively responded to my complaint and performed the original furnace diagnostics in a timely fashion with great expertise. We are very pleased with the results. During the process we learned our air conditioning unit was not functioning and would require $1400 of diagnostics - pressure leak test, freon and minor repairs. This is still an unaddressed item but the furnace is functioning properly.

 + -1 moreWhen I called to set up the appointment, the person I talked to was courteous and helpful. We set up an appointment for Dec. 4 at 3:00 pm. I received a reminder call a day or so before the appointment. On the day of the appointment, I received a call from the repairman that he was stuck in traffic and would be a bit late. He did arrive late, but got right to work. I am a new homeowner and had lots of questions. He answered them all very patiently and thoroughly and gave me tips about maintenance He was professional, pleasant to have in my home and did very good job, I believe. I told him I had a time constraint and he got everything done and helped me remove a filter that had been erroneously placed in my intake vent as well. I was pleased that, even though this was one of the "big deals" so the price was excellent, he didn't try to "upsell me" on things I didn't need. There were no extra charges. I plan to call them for all heating and air conditioning work in the future.
Description of Work: This was a heater check-up. I had just moved into a home and wanted my gas heater checked.

Description of Work: They tested and serviced our AC unit, including ensuring that there were no coolant leaks, all the mechanicals were sound, etc. They provided a detailed report of the test results and service actions.

 + -1 moreWe contacted them through an Angies deal and they were very professional. They were on time, and explained everything as they went along doing the inspection. After they pointed out the issue with holes in the ducts, They gave us another quote, and then fixed the duct pipes at the price they quoted and put a cap on the roof vent. Excellent service and very educational for a new home owner. We are very grateful.
Description of Work: They came out for a furnace tune-up and pointed out holes in the ducting just above the furnace. This was caused by a missing cap on a roof vent and rain was coming in and causing corrosion. It also was causing a very high risk of carbon monoxide release into the garage and bedrooms!

 + -1 moreThe workman showed up on time and was finished in about 30 minutes. He recommended that I have the intake vented to the outside of my unfinished basement. My only wish would be that I had gone down to look at the furnace with him before he left, but I was working from home at the moment and I didn't make the time.
Description of Work: I bought an Angie's List Deal that included a new oil filter, complete furnace inspection and tune up.

air duct cleaning
 + -1 moreWe previously had repair done on our dryer but it still wasn't working right so we contracted with a coupon to have the duct cleaned. The service provider was extremely personable and thorough He climbed a ladder to the third floor outlet and cleaned out the birdsnest then climbed through the attic to clean out the other end. When that didn't correct the problem he came back and tried again. He had it working when he left but unfortunately it quit again the next day so we'll need to go back to the first repairman. But I will definitely use UMC again and I'm checking out their other services to see which ones I will need in the future.

 + -1 moreTech arrived ontime and was professional and courteous. I didn't watch what he did the entire time but seems he did a good cleaning and thorough inspection. He noted some slight rust, possibly from during construction, and an igniter that may need replacing during next visit. He also cleaned the electrostatic filters. The fireplace in master bedroom wasn't working he he also checked it and found and fixed the problem at no extra charge. Will have them back next winter.

We initially hired them because they had a special offer for Angies List customers, which saved us quite a bit from what we had spent previous years with other reputable mechanical companies. They arrived on time, were very professional, did a thorough cleaning and inspection and there were NO additional fees or unnecessary add ons, which sometimes can happen with special offers. The service tech even put shoe covers on before entering our home and cleaned everything up before leaving. We will definitely use them again and highly recommend them.

 + -1 moreThe inspecxtion revealed a cracked heat exchanger, which required immediate replacement and was covered by my home warranty. While another company had to do that work, they verified that the heat exchanger was indeed cracked. The estimate I had received from UMC was very competitive, and I will use them again next year. The scheduler for the service was able to move it up by over a month at my request, which might have saved me from having some serious problems due to a carbon monoxide leak. I purchased and installed a carbon monoxide detector immediately after learning of the leak.

 + -1 moreHad a very good experience with the company. Setting up the appointment was easy. They sent reminders for the appointment. Rhett was exactly on time and explained in detail everything he had done. He found a cracked heat exchanger and suggested either the heat exchanger replacement or the furnace replacement. The company sent quotes for both and for different types of furnaces right away. Even though we went with a different contractor in the end because of the price, the overall experience with UMS was great and I would call them again.
