The Glass Guru

We took in some kitchen cabinet doors for custom partially etched glass. Because of the way the doors install, the only way for us to measure where the etching needed to end, was from the bottom of the door frame. We very specifically told them how we measured when we dropped off the doors. They wrote it down incorrectly and in the jumble of information on the quote they emailed, we missed their error. The glass was supposed to take 2 weeks. It took 6. Zero communication from them unless we called and, in the end, the glass came back incorrectly made. We bear some responsibility for not catching their error, but they also bear some responsibility for making it in the first place. However, they took no responsibility at all, and they were quite rude about it as well, insisting that it was 100% our fault because we didn't catch THEIR error. We are out more than $180 for useless glass panels now and no compromise solution offered by the company. Terrible customer service.

Our windows, which were about 15 years old, had moisture that had gotten in between the double panes. It looked like a Petri dish. (see the photo) and was slowly growing over time. I thought I would have to replace all the effected windows but saw the info from Glass Guru that sometimes replacing the glass was all that was needed and much more economical. Don the owner came out for an estimate. He was polite, helpful and very knowledgeable. (He actually has a lot of years of construction experience and gave me helpful tips about some of the other home improvement projects that I mentioned I was considering in the future as we walked around the house. His advice was very helpful). Don took the time to answer all my questions and emailed an estimate within a day. The estimate was the same as the final bill. I am so pleased with the results!!! My windows look fantastic. It literally looks like they are open all the time, the view is so clear. I didn’t expect that replacing the windows would make such a difference! Don had told me a story about replacing windows for someone who was selling their condo and only wanted to replace one main window. He suggested, as did the realtor, that all the windows in the front of the condo should be replaced. At first the homeowner did not go along with the advice to save money. But when the condo didn’t sell they decided to replace all the windows and after that the condo sold right away. After I saw what a big difference it made in my home I understood completely. It was so economical to just replace the glass in the water effected windows that I had money in my budget to buy 2 new bedroom windows which were original to the home (25+ years). Wow! The difference was major!! Not only the clear view (they were foggy before) but also the quietness and also how much warmer the rooms are now. They used to be the noticeably the coldest/hottest rooms in the house and now they are fine. I was pleasantly surprised at what a noticeable difference the new glass made. It was a good investment and I feel like I got a lot of bang for my buck. The installers Ian and Derrick were great, prompt, professional and polite. Dealing with Glass Guru was very smooth. I was so happy with the results and value that I got that I have already recommended them to a couple of my neighbors who have a similar problem. Really pleased!!

Using this company was a large mistake. Price was great, dropped off the doors, after a couple weeks of delays I received the doors with the glass not properly installed. The glass was not flat in the door and had a large gap on one corner. Had them redo the glass, after a couple days I picked up the doors again, this time the doors were a globed mess of silicon and one door was essentially destroyed. There were multiple areas that were crushed and the custom paid was chipped off as well. The shop owner blamed me that it was that way when they received the door and refused to cover the repair of the door. The door repair and weeks of delays were much more costly than this failed glass service.
