I highly recommend Dan from Skylights West based on my recent experience. Summary: Dan is honest, incredibly knowledgeable, represents multiple brands and types of skylights, stands behind his estimates/appointments, and provided me with a great quote for replacement of 7 skylights in my house. Working with him was absolute pleasure and I feel he helped to educate me to make the best decision based on my roof type and environment around the house. Detail: I needed to replace 7 skylights some of which (per Dan) were over 35 years old. I worked with 2 other companies before I found Skylights West and Dan. The 2 companies both gave me estimates, both said my skylights were custom, didn't explain new features in skylights options (tempered vs. laminated and domed vs. glass). Their estimates came in very pretty and HIGH round numbers which one company said they couldn't possibly break down for me as it came from manufacturer (because oh yes because manufacturers bid prices with labor included LOL). I knew I was being taken for a ride! Dan has been in the skylight business for 35+ years, he took the time to help to answer my questions and worked with me to figure out which skylights would be the best (technology has changed in the last 30 years to where Glass Skylights are 95% of the installs vs. domed ones which are made our of thick plastic). He was also very knowledgeable about warranties and type of skylights for different roof types. By the time he left, I knew I would give him my business even before seeing the estimate total. He also told me that only 1 of 7 skylights was custom and all others were in stock (they are the same manufacturer as I was quoted by the others)!!! Dan was on time for the estimate, prompt in giving me an estimate which had 4 different types of skylights/types/manufacturers quoted. To my surprise his estimate was less than HALF of the other businesses (let's call them price gougers for convenience). To add to the experience, Dan scheduled the install within 1 week for the 6 skylights that were available. I thanked Dan for his great work, for teaching me, and for being one of the few honest/good business owners. If you have skylights that need help, Dan is the guy to reach out to and work with!!!

We had a leaking motorized skylight that was 20+ years old. Dan was able to come out in a matter of days to inspect skylight and even covered it with plastic free of charge. Turns out our other skylight was starting to breakdown and leak as well. We went with solar powered Velux skylights that we absolutely love. Our final bill was exactly as indicated on work estimate. Dan and his partner gave an 8:00-8:30am arrival timeframe, and they showed up at 8:15am. I appreciate the promptness and follow-thru. I would highly recommend Dan for any skylight installation.

Owner Dan Marsh came out for the bid and discussed in great detail how the work would proceed. The bid was very fair and his professionalism sold me. He arrived on time, made sure that he kept dust and dirt out of our living space, and installed two large skylights. He made sure I was safe while he worked. Dan did a great job of texturizing so the painter could get right to work. Everything was cleanly and professionally done on time and within budget. I give Dan Marsh and Skylights West LLC the highest recommendation possible.

I gave Dan all A's in the rating only because there is no A-plus rating. Our 25+ year old skylight finally gave up and Dan took care of us. I called and gave him the manufacturer and model of the existing skylight and he handled the rest. Once he had the materials, we set an appointment time of 9AM. He arrived at 8:59AM - there was no 'your hours are between 8AM and 4PM' non-sense. He showed up, took out the old light, put in the new, and had it all cleaned up in a few hours. Very professional, honest pricing, highest quality workmanship, and an all-around nice guy. The kind of guy you would like to sit and have coffee with. Can't say enough good stuff other than if you are looking for a quality skylight install/repair - Dan is the guy to do that for you.

Perfect! Ordered replacement and installed new skylight. Office staff was very helpful, field staff was very professional. Work done better than expected!

Dan came out the day it happened and provided me with an estimate. Said it would be 2 to 3 weeks from signed proposal. 4 days after I signed the proposal Dan called and stated the skylight was in and asked if he could come out that day and put it in. He is very friendly. It has been raining every since he finished and there are no leaks. Thank you Dan for your quick response when I called for estimate and thanks for getting it put in so quickly.

When I bought my house a few years ago, my one hesitation was how light challenged it was. It’s surrounded by Douglas Fir, Western Red Cedar and similar. I like the setting, but we don’t get a lot of light inside. I asked Dan Marsh from Skylights West to take a look and he suggested skylights in our family room. Installation took less than a week for two large 6X2 foot skylights start to finish. I am still astonished by the transformation. Our formerly dark family room is now FLOODED with light from early morning until late in the evening. Whether it is overcast or sunny, the amount of light brought in is far beyond my expectations. This small change has changed the feel of not just that room but the whole house. I wholeheartedly recommend Skylights West to anyone considering skylights. Dan did most of the work himself, and he’s clearly mastered skylight installation. The skylights themselves are perfectly situated and look beautiful. The work area was enclosed with plastic and tarp, so there was no impact to the rest of the house during the few days of the installation. I can’t praise enough Skylights West and the guidance and execution they provided. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to bring more light into their home.

Skylights West was recommended by Anderson Roofing, which has a long relationship with Skylights West. Dan Marsh, the principal of Skylights West made the replacement process smooth and uneventful. He measured the existing skylights, ordered new ones, and then coordinated with Anderson Roofing to replace the skylights when Anderson's roofing work was almost complete. When the skylights had been replaced, Anderson's crew finshed the flashing required around the skylights. It's easy to see why Anderson Roofing and Skylights West have such a good working relationship. They know each other well, coordinate their work superbly, and produce professional results. I highly recommend Skylights West and Anderson Roofing.

This review is long due. I contact Dan in August by email. He came while we were at work and check the skylights on our roof to provide an estimate about the cost. He left his business card on our porch to let us know that he came to check the site. Few days later he sent us an email with the cost that was well below the bid we received from other companies. Few weeks went by and I almost forgot about him since he did not follow up about the date the skylights suppose to arrive. However, considering that the skylights were not standard size it is understandable that took a bit of time to get the skylights. He called me while I was at work and told me that the skylights were ready, I was quite surprised since I thought he forgot about our job....considering some bad reviews I read on Angie's list about his responsiveness... He came the next day, while I was at work, replaced the skylights, left the bill and never talked to him again. To be honest, this was the best experience I had with a contractor in a long time. I never met the guy in person, I didn't have to take any time off of work to meet him but he showed to be honest, trustworthy, and being able to do an excellent job for some painful custom size skylights. I will definitely recommend Dan to other customers. His responsiveness can be improved but it was worth the wait.

Excellent. Dan and a helper were in and out in two hours. Used plastic sheeting as walls to completely seal off workspace and laid down blankets/sheets wherever they stepped. Was extremely candid during the assessment phase, had some very good advice about skylight placement and recommended against putting in skylights in our house due to beams and odd angles. In the past, other contractors told me it wouldn't be awkward or that they could make it work, but Dan was very clear and concise in his explanation of why it was not going to be okay to just stick skylights wherever we wanted. Initially, I found his responsiveness a little odd, but now think it has something to do with his particular brand of Pacific Northwest stoicism. He didn't really do "check-ins" while we were waiting for his schedule to clear up, and I had less conversation with him over a month-long period than I had in an half an hour with any other person who's done work at our house. Nevertheless, he got everything done with a minimum of fuss and sales-pitching so I guess its a good thing.

Called multiple times over several months and left voicemail. No one has ever puckef up the phone or bothered to call back, I'm not even sure if they are even still in business.

We had a skylight where the inside glass suddenly shattered in the summer heat. Glass bits flew everywhere inside and outside our house. The dog and I both got injured and the dog actually had to get a few staples. It was a mess. The skylight turned out to be some custom creation the original house builder had fabricated on site. We called several skylight, roofing, and glass shops and all did not have a clue as to how to repair or replace the skylight, except Dan Marsh at Skylights West. It's hard to explain but it's more like a couple of windows in the roof, joined at the peak, than it is a skylight. Dan came out, measured, then researched how best to replace this skylight. He had a custom skylight built at one of his contacts and was able to quickly order, and replace it. It did take several weeks for it to be fabricated, but it' i's now a beautiful finished skylight. Dan kept is close communication through out the ordering and fabrication phase. During the install he and his team carefully covered interior spaces to avoid any broken glass spills, but they didn't have any. They took extra care and went the extra mile to clean up glass that had originally fallen on the roof that we couldn't get to. We've been through all kinds of weather since the skylight was replaced and it's performing flawless. It's a better looking skylight inside and out than what we had. It's much quieter in the driving rain. We are very very pleased with Dan Marsh's work and follow through. Highly recommended.

We made an appointment with Dan to give us an estimate. He came out when he said he would and then proceeded to educate us on our various options. No hard sell. We went with him, he gave us a date and time for the installation and he showed up on time. I would definitely hire him again.

Dan was easy to schedule for a proposal and when he arrived he explained our options for replacing 25+ year old skylights. He gave quotes for the various options and we chose one. Once the skylights were ready he contacted to schedule their installation. He arrived promptly and took care to cover surfaces in the master bathroom to prevent any mess. The old skylight casings were in such a mess that we were heating and cooling the outside and could definitely hear everything. Now our master bathroom is peacefully quiet and more energy efficient.

I was really satisfied with Dan's level of work. He communicated with me in the way that I requested (ie, via email since its hard for me to schedule phone conversations). He showed up and did a detailed inspection before providing a quote. Once I accepted the quote, he waited for the right weather to arrange the work. On the morning of the work, I was able to meet him at my house. While we were discussing the placement of the skylights - which I had originally requested 3 of them - he let me know that it would. not make much sense to do the third light in the place I was hoping for. This resulted in me changing from 3 lights to only 2 lights. I was impressed that he was willing to recommend what was best for my house and not what was best for lining his pockets. He ended up with less money on this job than he originally expected due to this. When I came home, there was not a single sign that someone had cut holes in my roof. There was not any dust or things left behind. Just new solar tubes and a clean new skylight. I'm pleased with the work and would recommend him to others.

He was very prompt and timely. It was a complicated project and he knocked it out with no problem. He handled it perfectly and is very knowledgeable in his field. The skylight turned out perfectly.

The paint matches perfectly and there is no discernible seam where the work was done. I am extremely pleased with how bright the kitchen is now. After taking down a wall between our kitchen and family room, the old mis-positioned skylight stood out like a sore thumb. It looked so bad that we were willing to simply remove it and forever subject our new kitchen to dreariness. There was no option to cut more rafters, and the previously cut rafters were not in a good location for the new kitchen. Our roof changes angles in several places over the new kitchen area, so figuring out how to correct the situation wasn?t apparent to us, or the experienced general contractor we brought in to look. Symmetry became important with the new open-to-the-family-room floor plan. That contractor, like us, felt that we needed to space out three separate skylights, skipping rafters in between. Even that idea was pushing the limits of how close skylights can be placed to a roof angle change. Then we called on Dan at Skylights West. He looked over the situation and came up with the perfect solution: one very large skylight positioned in just the right place but without cutting any rafters -- simply wrapping them with drywall. He also took the time to do the calculations for maximum belling of the chase which gives us the most light possible. I wasn?t sure how wrapped rafters would look so he emailed photos of similar situations. We took the chance it would look good here and went for it. We were so lucky to get a good weather window of opportunity, getting our job done the day after Christmas. It?s now months later and we are still totally thrilled with the outcome Skylights West was able to provide. Without a doubt this is one of the best decisions for the new kitchen. There is no substitute for getting the bones right, and Dan made that possible for us.
