+ -1 moreOverall it was a good experience and well worth the fee. Even though we have bought a few other homes and been through this process before, we learned a lot about home systems in general as well as about our specific home. In the three months since the inspection took place, we have not found any other issues that Ray hadn't already flagged.
Description of Work: Ray arrived early and began his inspection on the outside of the house. He works from a long checklist which also serves as his final report. It is very thorough, basically a 13 page report bound as a book. It is hand-written but legible. A lot of the value is in walking through the home with him and asking questions, so you'll benefit most if you are already somewhat knowledgeable so you can ask lots of good questions. Ray tested a sample of windows, electrical outlets, and lights. He tested all of the plumbing and appliances. He used a ladder to walk all over the roof and also crawled under the deck. He found a leaky drain, a crack in the furnace heat exchanger, and a few other issues I wouldn't have noticed. The furnace was a major issue that we were able to negotiate with the seller based on Ray's report. He also prompted us to talk with the sellers about the work they had done on basement drainage, to satisfy ourselves that the installation was sound.
