The Gold Standard ! I spent over four months researching roofs and roofers. We got bids from six companies and put everything on a spreadsheet. Larry Haight's price was comparable with the other two high quality companies but their knowledge, communication and service was far superior, as was their company culture. During the bidding process, Larry Haight's was the most thorough about what our 100 year old house needed for the best roof, including soffett vents, ridge vents, plywood replacements, interfaces with flat roof sections, gutters, etc. They priced out every eventuality so that during the work we had no surprises. They anticipated every need, including brick chimney work and vents for plumbing and indoor fans. Once we signed a contract for the house, we decided also to replace our flat roof and install solar panels. Larry Haight's gave the best bid again on the flat roof. Their bid was only slightly more to replace roof & repair plywood with a lifetime warranty product compared to another's bid to only repair an old torchdown. The real test came when the roofers had to work with the solar company, Sunergy, for the work that needed to be partially done by each before either could complete. Folks from Sunergy and Larry Haight's sat at our kitchen table and planned it all out, agreeing to manage the timing between themselves. Both companies were absolutely professional, friendly, agreeable, flexible and honest. Both had good relations with local inspectors and knew every little detail that needed doing. In addition, every phone call and email was very promptly and courteously handled, even on week-ends and around holidays. Bottom line - I can't imagine why anyone would use a different roofing company.
Description of Work: Replaced TWO Roofs - a 22 year old asphalt shingle roof on our oddly roofed house and a 15 year old flat roof on our triple-car garage, both of which needed much repair before the roofing material could be placed.

The initial job seemed to go well enough. However, on New Year's Eve 2014 one of the skylights failed after hours and the homeowner called our management company. Since it was leaking into the apartment, it needed to be repaired asap. Because we had recently changed management companies, our new manager was unaware of the vendor (Haight Roofing) that we had used to install the skylight, and the repair was of an emergency nature, our manager hired a company (Ruff Roofing) associated with his management company. They were dispatched on January 1, 2015, they returned on Jan. 2 to complete repairs to the skylight. They also left a dehumidifier in the apartment.. On Jan. 5 Ruff Roofing completed their service and removed the dehumidifier. On the same day our property manager sent Haight Roofing a work order to inspect the skylight that had failed, having been informed by our association that they were the original skylight installer. On the 8th of January the property manager sent pictures and a description of the broken skylight. On January 13, Haight Roofing visited the property to assess damage and the repair to the skylight. On January 24, Haight Roofing replaced the skylight. . On Jan. 28 our manager received an invoice for $1,560 from Ruff Roofing for repairing the skylight. He then asked Haight Roofing for reimbursement for the emergency repair when Haight's skylight failed. There was no reply from Haight Roofing for 5 months, and on June 11, 2015 our property manager paid Ruff Roofing on behalf of our association for the emergency repair. On June 18, our manager sent a letter to Haight Roofing again requesting reimbursement for emergency skylight repairs in January, including evidence. As there was no response from Haight Roofing, on July 13 the letter was resent (certified and regular mail). On July 21 Haight Roofing responded by saying that they are not responsible for the emergency repair costs. Although we appreciate Haight's replacing the faulty skylight, our association of condominium owners thinks that because Haight's skylight failed, they should also be responsible for the emergency repair.

The actual story was one of the skylights we installed did fail. The HOA decided to call a random contractor instead of calling us. After a few days of the skylight still leaking, the HOA called us and we responded within hours. We were able to diagnose the problem, fix whatever the other contractor did and replace the faulty skylight. We don't manufacture skylights, we only replace and/or install them. Reviews are wonderful and we accept them but before people write them they should investigate to find out the truth.

I was so disappointed in this company. I just moved into a new house and was looking for a roofer who would address some shortcomings from the inspection. The attic was poorly ventilated and gutters and downspouts needed repair. I chose this firm because their service description said they did this type of work and because they were highly rated on Angie's list. When I called I was told it would take 2-3 weeks for an estimator to come look at the house, and indeed it took that long. The estimator explained the need for a better ridge vent and soffit ventilation. He also suggested adding insulation to the attic. While he was there, we noticed that the roof was "ripply" over the part of the house where there had been a previous addition. He told me this was an aesthetic issue and not a structural one and that the best time to address it would be when the roof was replaced (in 8-10 years). He agreed to give me an estimate for a full roof replacement in addition to the immediate work -- in case I decided to do it all right away. When I didn't receive an estimate after a week, I called the office. I was told they were short-handed and they would get the estimate to me soon. I made two more calls over the next 1-2 weeks, but never received an estimate for either option. I was finally told that the estimator said I needed a full roof replacement and that they would not do only the ventilation and gutter work. This was a complete waste of six weeks ---- if they didn't want to do a small job, I would have appreciated being told that either when I first contacted them, or when the estimator came to my house. I contacted another A rated roofer who came out, confirmed the ripply roof was not a structural issue, and did the ventilation work within two weeks of my first contact.

The TRUTH is when this homeowner called in for us to look at her roof, they wanted to us call prior to coming out, which we did. During the time of this initial call, we explained our backlog for estimates was approximately four weeks. When inspecting this roof, we found several rafters were sagging and explained to the homeowner the best thing to do is repair the rafters at the time of the roof replacement. We then asked to set up an appointment to discuss a roof replacement and this homeowner declined. We will only do what is right and some people don't like nor appreciate this approach.

I met with the estimator and was impressed with his knowledge and liked his communication style. Unfortunately, after he was done, LH Roofing contacted us later and insisted they would not give us an estimate unless we spoke with a sales rep in person, meaning in our home or their office (the estimator said they would email us with an estimate). I explained that we can't do that because here's only 1 day during the week my wife and I are home together, and it's when she gets home from work late in the afternoon. I explained this is not a good time for us. (No way were we going to deal with a sales rep at dinner time, my wife is tired, and I'm just winding down also from doing various projects around the house). I asked them to write up a proposal and email to is, but they refused. I was disappointed that they were so inflexible, but at that point I had to tell them we can't do business together. I'm giving two A's for the estimator, except for the part about him telling me they would email us with an estimate, but their inflexible sales approach gets an F. They are the only contractor I've dealt with that wouldn't just email us the bid. We're suspicious of sales reps, but may have met them half-way if they had agreed to a time when we were prepared. So overall they get a C.

We are sorry you feel the way that you do. We feel purchasing a roof is a big deal and want to make sure our potential customers know what they are buying. We don't use high pressure, all we want to do is explain what we found on your roof and answer your questions. It's a simple process that works.

Had an old torchdown roof that was showing alligatoring and some other visual issues, though no actual leaks yet. Got bids from 3 high angies rated companies and chose LHRR even though they were not the cheapest. Just got a good feel from their attention to detail and the amount of time George took answering my numerous questions. They were very flexible with my request for pushing the work out till I could get cash flow in hand and Heidi was excellent in communicating both schedule during run-up as well as making sure I received various paperwork that I requested (proof of insurance, etc). Their things-to-do-before paperwork was very informative and useful. There is some non-trivial vibration during full sheathing replacement so I'm glad I knew to take down all the artwork! Had to work around a couple days of rain delay (the last before our current dry spell) but the crew started at first safely dry opportunity. The crew (Carlos, Oscar & Francisco) were always punctual, informative and left the work site clean at the end of the day. Carlos, the evident team lead, was always good about checking in at the start and end of each day and I find I'm missing our morning conversations. The ops mgr, Chris, was also prompt, informative (again with my questions!) and easy to work with. He never hesitated to respond to my inquiries, whether by phone or text. After the membrane was off we discovered several issues beyond the initial bid scope. - The 3/4" shiplap was still viable but would require replacing some sections that were split or weakened. - Several of the rafters across a particularly long span had bowed - There was some wood rot in the corners and fascia near the downspouts Given: - I had originally wanted them to pull some of the sheathing over the vaulted ceiling area to look at maybe doing insulation replacement - I wanted to get the bowed rafters addressed - I was thinking long term vs quick fix I suggested we just go with a full sheathing replacement, cedar for the fascia and new insulation on the vaulted ceiling. Chris worked with me on the cost for the mostly unanticipated extras (much appreciated - thx!) and I was able to proceed with a good long term solution. Final work was: - totally new 4x8 ply sheathing - 6-8 sistered rafters - new cedar fascia all around - new vaulted ceiling insulation - new ridge vent and other various improvements - new PVC membrane roof During this whole thing I was impressed by their work ethic, attention to details, and the focus on doing things the right way. This included having one of their carpenters come repair a window shutter that got dinged during tear-off. After the repair I found it hard to tell even though I knew what to look for. Given that this roof will last my lifetime I doubt I'll need them to do it again, but I can certainly recommend them to others. They are worth the bit extra. UPDATE: Been a few weeks. I recently noticed a cosmetic issue on some soffit boards. I texted Chris about it and he had a guy out the next day for quick touch-ups and it all looks great. That's what I call customer service! Thx, Chris. Thx, LHRR.

The crew arrived early and got started quickly. No issues. They finished in 2 hours +/-. Before they left I asked if they needed to check inside, and they declined. I did not notice until they were gone that debris from the job had fallen down on the carpeted stairs and left a mess. Not a big deal but in retrospect I would have expected them to let me know in advance that there might be some fall out to the inside and/or laid a tarp over the carpet.

Staff were courteous and on-time. They cleaned up everyday before leaving. The job was completed on time despite weather challenges. This is a family owned company that has been in business for a long time that takes pride in their workmanship in getting your roof done correctly. Mike Apple is a specialist that accessed and took pictures of problems that my roof was having due to a leak and a very bad previous roofing job. He went over all he saw with me and showed me the pictures he took and thanks to his accessment the job went smooth. Next I met with Randy May to go over the proposal and to discuss the next step in this process. My roof was tarped due to the leak and the heavy rains that came. When it was time for the roofing I met with Chris Brockman the operations manager and again went over step by step what would take place and he answered any questions that I had. I am so impressed with the professional work everyone did as well as the communication that took place everyday with Chris on this project. Being imformed step by step is so important and appreciated and he came by everyday just to see how everything was going as well as to take his time to speak to me about any further questions I might have. A huge thank you to Mike Apple, Randy May, Chris Brockman and Heidi May for keeping me in the loop....what an asset you are to the company as well as Carlos and his crew that actually did the roofing and the carpenters for making those barge ends so much better. These people are number 1 in my book. In a heart beat I would use and recommend this company with out a doubt!! My roof looks fabulous! Thank you to all! I had such a bad experience with my previous roofers as they did not do anything properly. The roofing material and plywood was great material but, the workmanship was horrible and thank goodness they are out of business. You might think that the quote you receive from Larry Haight is more than you want to spend but, the quality and workmanship they put into their project is well worth it. I can't say enough about my experience with this company.

I had an appointment for next Tuesday at 4p.m. Today someone showed up at my house (my niece happened to be at my house). I had no idea someone was coming.. There was a phone call today but since I work I was unable to take the call. I found out from my niece the person entered my yard and climbed on my roof without my permission. I called them and cancelled for next Tuesday as it was very unprofessional of them just to show up and expect me to be there. I would never recommend them.

We are truly sorry that this person is so upset. Better communication would have helped. We were only told to call prior to arriving at the house, which we did. When at the house we knocked on the door and left some information. Our vehicles are all clearly marked and we wear logo shirts/hats. There was never any mention that this person wanted to be home when measuring the roof. Our track record speaks for itself.

Overall everything went smoothly. The only discrepancy was that I was severly discouraged from being home during the time of the repair work or speaking to the workers. While scheduling the repair I mentioned that I wanted to be home in case anything went wrong, the scheduler went on and on about how I "shouldn't try to talk to the work men or ask them questions, they aren't there to answer questions, I should call the office, etc etc". The main reason I wanted to be home was to ensure the work was actually performed. Otherwise how would I know? I am not in the habit of climbing on my roof and inspecting the vents. After listening to his speech I was very suspicious and made sure everything was done as per the contract (I had to send in 1/2 total cost as a deposit to even be scheduled). Despite this one discrepancy, everytime I called the office the ladies working there were very courteous and professional and overall the repair process was good. I would hire this company again if there was an emergency. But I am planning to try a different one first, just to see if I am allowed to talk to the guys that actually do the work (to confirm they are doing what needs to be done, not shoot the breeze) and also if its okay for me to be home while the work is performed.

All in all, I was extremely happy with the work that was done. LHRR was honest, straight forward, and did exactly what they said they would do and were quite accurate with their initial estimate. My roof looks great, and I have not seen any issues with it whatsoever. They were constantly in contact before and during the project, their crew did a fine job of cleaning up the work site at the end of each day, and they finished the job in less time than I was expecting. My only "problem" with LHRR was the long waiting period between when I paid my deposit and when work began (roughly 10 weeks if I remember correctly). Ultimately, I know that this wasn't their fault...it is the price you pay for going with a company that does such great work that their crews have a long backlog of projects! LHRR did send someone out immediately to put a large tarp over my leaking roof until they could do the job. AND, they used a tarp that was close in color to my roof so that it didn't stick out like a sore thumb. I would definitely not hesitate to hire LHRR again, although I hope that it will be a long long while before I need any more roofing work done!

We had contacted several roofing companies and compared the estimates and we went with Larry Haight's Residential roofing because of the way they presented the work, what was included in the work and the way they were going to approach the roof work, fascia board, downspouts, etc. They had the skills needed to perform the needed work. I will update this review to correct the total fabrications in Haights response when we are through traveling.........We informed Randy May when we were told that the job start was scheduled for the 3rd week of October that that made the schedule so tight it would not allow us time to determine if there were any leaks after the new rood was on. Had wanted at least a month before our trip departure. however, HE STATES IN THE REPLY BELOW THAT WE NEVER INFORMED HIM OF OUR TRIP SCHEDULE. THAT IS AN OUTRIGHT LIE ..But when we were informed of the third week of October schedule decided it was getting so close to our departure we would compromise with the third week of October. Then after we made our deposit on the third week of September we received notice that the job was now scheduled between November 3rd and November 14th. We immediately communicated that that just would not work with our travel schedule which they were fully aware of. Sent Emails, voice messages, and even text messages for almost two weeks without any kind of response. Finally received a response from Michael Haight but could not obtain any kind of assurances from Haight Roofing that the job would be completed before we left on our trip. The denial they had made the original third week of October commitment was the first clue, the lack of any response for two weeks was the second clue and an insult and the third clue was when Michael Haight finally responded by email without any attention to our concern and schedule problem. Three clues they are out. We terminated the contract. Any implication that we were badgering them is a total fabrication of the facts. All we were asking was for them to meet their original commitments they made to us. Denial of those commitments is very unprofessional. Had the weather been bad to impact their schedule it could have been understood. It wasn't. And hadn't been. They just plain did not live up to their commitments and promises and then tried to lie their way out of it. A simple and professional response would have been: We cannot meet your schedule requirements. No, they tried to lead us on as if we had no choice. We had other choices. We cancelled their contract, hired a new roofing contractor and were able to get he new roof installed in time to meet our travel schedule November 11th. ................ Hired Larry Haight on the basis of written contract and verbal commitments. Signed contract about 45 days before work was promised to start (third week of October, by Randy May. Before we signed the contract we informed Randy May that we needed the job done before we had to leave on an extended trip in early November. We were told by Randy May we would be on the schedule for the third week of October. Mutual Agreement was that would provide deposit 30 days in advance of the start date which we did on schedule and above the amount required. Asked how the schedule was looking and was told be Randy May that they were actually ahead of schedule due to cool weather and the lack of rain delays. Approximately two weeks later, after we provided the deposit, we were informed that the schedule was going to be somewhere in the first two weeks of November, November 3-14. We immediately responded that that wasn't going to work for us because of our travel schedule which Haight knew about before we signed the contract. First response from Randy May was denial that he had told us the third week of October, even when I was standing right next to him when he checked with the scheduler, his wife Heidi at the time of signing the agreement. And then to add real salt in the wounds Randy May said that their other customers would be happy to take our scheduled place if we canceled. Very Arrogant! We wrote them another email and stated that their response was unacceptable and that we needed a better schedule than what had been proposed due to our travel schedule. No response from anyone within the Haight organization for two weeks, No response to emails to Randy and Hieidi for two weeks. No response to phone calls from Randy May for two weeks. No response to text messages for two weeks from anyone in the Haight organization. Finally receive an email from Michael Haight, son of the owner, stating he was the one who was supposed to respond to all our messages. And just reiterated that the job would start in early November. We responded with an email that we needed a firm schedule that would get the job done prior to our travel schedule. Gave them a deadline that we needed a commitment by Noon the next Monday or we would have to cancel the contract. No response at all by Noon the next Monday. So we sent an email canceling the contract due to lack of response and lack of meeting the required job start schedule. 1 minute after they received our cancelation they responded as if they thought we would never cancel. There had been no rain days during this period to cause any delays. We concluded that this was not an ethical company because of denial of verbal promises, lack of timely response to formal and written communication and total lack of professionalism in both verbal. and written communication. This company thinks they are God's gift to the roofing business and they are only blowing smoke to get a job at a very high price we might add. They cannot be trusted. We would NOT recommend EVER doing business with this company.

I found a shake shingle on my back porch; 19 year old roof. Looked on Angie because there are so many flakes in the roofing business. The highest rated roofer couldn't come out... Larry Haight was second and I had to wait ten days but was I impressed. Firstly, it WAS ten days; secondly the estimator showed up right on time. But the clincher was he said my roof was fine, gave me the name/number of a guy he'd recommend to clean and do minor repairs, then gave me an education about my roof. Shook my hand and left. You can be sure they will be FIRST in line when I DO need a roof.

The man who came out and took the estimate was not the one who actually did the work. He sent out several workers and there was a miscommunication about the problem so I called to explain that it wasn't resolved. They came back out and the problem is now resolved.
Description of Work: They repaired a valley in the roof, which was causing a leak.

Their cleanup proceedure was great. They were so fast, it took our breath away -- the job was done in about 7 hours. They have good warranties and the warranty will extend to the new owner of the home. They have good presentation materials. Their follow up was excellent. The salesman was knowledgeable and was very professional. I feel like they don't rope you into something you don't want.

There was a slight delay after initial contact until crews were available, and a delay until the soffits were crafted to match existing ones, but crews were here on time, and cleaned up each day before they left. Other roofers didn't even mention the gutters, and they were a significant part of the job. Salesman Chris Brockman was very thorough, and explained at the initial assessment that there would be extra charges if plywood needed to be replaced, gutter repairs when better assessed, etc, but that we would have to option of saying no to anything extra. When the fascia needed to be hand-matched, we had the option of having someone else do that job.
Description of Work: Replaced roof, repaired rotten wood gutters, replaced decorative cedar fascia on gutters, co-ordinated Sola-tube placement, replaced flashing around chimney (old one source of periodic leaks, and increased soffit vents.
