Their onsite inspection revealed corrosion issues with my furnace exhaust stack, attic vents, etc. They provided photographic details and worked these items into the bid.
Work was done per expectations (time, cost, etc.).
Competitive price.
Our house has a fairly flat roof. About 15 years ago, we installed a vinyl roof that, because of poor installation, failed to drain rain water adequately. We dithered around and didn't do anything about it until - naturally - we dug out the warranty and found we were a few months over the expiration. We began a search for a roofer who could/would fix the problem (we were leaving umbrellas on the patio so out guests could reach the door through the entry "waterfall"). We called 15 or more so-called roofers, getting varied responses to our problem. Most of them came out, looked, and never called back. We were discouraged. We joined Angie's list, but also began to dither again, until the constantly pouring water at our front door began to make us crazy. We finally thought, gee, we're paying for Angie's List, why don't we USE it? and so we found Larry Haight Roofing, who sent someone out who was knowledgeable and professional, understood our type of roof, and knew what to do about it.
The problem with our roof involved too-little depth on the fascia boards to contain the water that sits on our Pacific Northwest roofs. The original installers had laid 1" of insulation over our original tongue-and-groove roof because of age-shrinkage of the wood. They did not compensate with an increase in fascia board height, as well as merely shoving the roofing material down into the downspouts without adhering it to the sides, creating wrinkles that blocked the flow of water-plus-fir-needles. Larry Haight Roofing fixed all that.
Yes, we had some small problems: due to a communications glitch, we did not hear from Larry Haight Roofing for a month or more after sending our down payment. When we realized how long it had been (they'd told us they would begin our work within a couple of weeks), we called and discovered we weren't even scheduled. Whatever was written on the work order had led them to believe the job was a small one that could be done anytime. Once we had apprised them of the truth of the situation, Larry Haight Roofing could not have been more professional and apologetic. The job was scheduled, and began well ... until we discussed the job with the Larry Haight guy, who told us that we weren't getting the peak boards replaced, just the fascia, and we said "but those ARE fascia boards, and he said no, they're BARGE boards - no one had told us there was a difference. We renegotiated our bill with the company, they finished the job, cleaned up thoroughly, and we are waterfall-free and no longer dithering - sure feels good to get things done!
We are very very happy with Larry Haight Roofing. They repaired a roof that we had trouble getting anyone else even to LOOK at, much less even consider! They were professional, thorough and quick. We highly recommend them!
We decided to go with Larry Haight?s Residential Roofing Company, Inc. During the bidding process Haight?s made an appointment for us to meet and go over in detail the entire process, contract, price quote and any questions we might have. All the contractors were with local companies and seemed quite knowledgeable, but the extra effort to sit down and discuss details, interact face-to-face and ask questions sold us on Haight?s roofing. George Bear, vice president, gave us an excellent description on the details, materials to be used, installation method, detailed costs, some options to consider, and how long it would take.
The job itself was started on time despite working around some inclement weather and ended right on time. We had Chris working with us as overseer of the work crew. Every day he started by giving us a briefing of what to expect that day and gave us contact information to get in touch with him in case we had questions or any concerns. Chris was a delight to work with as he was very polite, explained the day?s work in terms we could understand and closely monitored the crew?s work. The crew worked very hard each day, and were extremely cordial toward us. They always ended the day by cleaning up the area. We were very pleased with the work that they did.
The work was completed on time and the cost was as stated. We feel confident that the problems we had are now solved. We would highly recommend Haight?s roofing for any roofing needs you might have.
Thank you George, Chris and the entire work crew for a job well done.
Larry Haight's Roofing did not have the lowest price bid but did get my home's new roof project because of the thoroughness and details included in the bid.
They conducted a thorough review of the roof prior to providing a bid, provided a detailed bid, and the project was completed with a professional crew that was very efficient and cleaned the debris without a trace. They assign a project manager and he was on top of the project at all times and in daily communication with me on how the project was progressing.
Highly recommend them for a new roof project.
There was a slight miscommunication between the office scheduler and myself at the beginning of the project. I had received a letter earlier than the project was scheduled to begin on the Monday of a certain week. I never got--or made--a call the Friday before to confirm, so when they never showed up on Monday, I called and found out they were coming on Wednesday.
Once they did come on Wednesday, I was very pleased with the crew. Chris, the foreman, is about the easiest man to work with. His crew was stymied by a few days of hard rain, and since they were dealing with a lot of insulating, not much could get done right away. But they made up for it once the weather cleared. The crew was very polite and worked with me as I came and went with the kids.
I was initially impressed with the insulation work. But a month later, I had someone come out and do an energy audit and he found that the insulation was very dirty (roofing material had fallen on it) near the back of the attic and the insulation was spread unevenly, giving coverage anywhere to full 14 inches to only a few. I used his pictures and sent them to Mr. Bear with a note, that though I had signed off on that work, I would like to have the work fixed and completed. Mr. Bear called me right away, apologized, and made a plan for the work to be done. Two guys came back, cleaned it out, and did a great job adding several more bags of insulation. It may not have been perfect the first time, but never have I had a complaint taken care of so readily.
Another small note about the roof that I really like, the company installed hooks (D-rings) at three places along our roof, so that we can use them for additionally safety when we need to clean it.
I probably won't need to use this company again, as I plan on being here a long time and this roof should outlast even me, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to everyone else.
"Thank you very much for your comments. I will make sure the crew and George reads them."
We invited three companies that all had high ratings on Angie's list to give us a bid. This company was not the lowest bidder (even with the 5% Angie's List discount), but we were the most comfortable with them. The other two companies would not meet with us in person as my husband & I both work and they would do appointments in the late afternoon/evening. They e-mailed us quotes. George on the other hand came out to meet with us in person and spent the time to review the bid and explain every line item, his companies approach to the project, and what we could expect. He answered all questions we had.
The company was very professional. They came to do the work very close to the estimated start date. They were done within the time frame they estimated. They took care to not damage the surrounding bushes, etc.
The roof looks great.
The only issue we have had to date is a gutter that had no problems last rainy season and turned into a waterfall this year. Of course, our assumption was this must be related to the roof installation. The company was extremely responsive in coming out to look at the issue. They believed the primary issue was the original installer of the gutters had installed the corner that was overflowing lower than the downspout. They did say it was possible they aggravated the situation - although they left the gutters in place when they did their work - and even offered to put in a rain chain. We declined as this chain would have been in the middle of a patio. We called a different company to lower the drain spout (it was only $200). I was happy that they were willing to work with us on it.
