Took a while to get the estimate visit, d/t a lot of wind damage on roofs in the area. But once that hurdle was crossed, everything was seemless.
Description of Work: Tore down wind damaged roofing, laid protective sheeting, and matched asphalt shingles on a 10 X 15 area.

We called and made an appointment for someone to come talk to us about installing a new roof. They sent someone over to look at the roof before the appointment. Then we had an appointment with George. He arrived on time and he was very well prepared for our visit. He showed us pictures of what the roof looked like. We were shown options of what we could do. He explained about how the business worked and that they do not use contractors. There was no pressure to decide on what we wanted to do. When we walked out to his truck and I noticed the skylights on his truck and inquired about those. We had to wait a few weeks due to the time of year but when the time came we were informed of when they would be here and that we should be expecting a dumpster for the garbage. It took them a lot less time then we expected. Everything was done within a week and half. That had to do with our schedule as we needed to be home for part of the skylight install. We were very pleased with the work that had been done for us. We would definitely recommend this team to anyone who asked.
Description of Work: Replaced roof which included new boards to replace water damaged ones. Installed 3 skylights in living room, repaired sheet rock that was damaged from the house settling over the years.

The visit went smoothly and on time. The problem was diagnosed and fixed at this time. The charges were better than I could have hoped for. The tech. was extremely pleasant and VERY knowledgeable.
Description of Work: I called to have a skylight leak looked at for a estimate of what was wrong and a estimate to fix. They responded the next morning with a visit. My house is 10 years old. The technician diagnosed the problem. He made three small repairs right then and there. It took about ten to fifteen minutes. Most of the problem was due to faulty install by the origional builder. He explained the normal charges to me, but would not take a payment. I have recommended several people to this company as a result. Both were satisfied.

I was impressed by how professional this whole transaction was. it is nice to know that I have access to such a great roofing company in the event of another problem with my roof
Description of Work: They repaired a leak in our roof. We called Larry Haight Roofing for an estimate. They sent their estimator out, and he determined that we had a cracked plastic vent on our roof. He told us tha we would receive a written estimate from the the office. Shortly thereafter, we received an email us an estimate of around $400.00. They requested that we send them a 50% payment so they could schedule the repair. We sent the check, and a few days later, two gentlemen showed up and did the work. They were very courteous.

We hired Larry Haight's Roofing Co to replace our old cedar shingle roof with a new one last year. They were very honest during the estimate that we still had a few years left in the old roof and didn't need a new one yet - and there was absolutely NO pressure at all to buy. But we already knew we didn't NEED a new roof (no leaks yet, only a few missing shingles and an old look to the rest) - but wanted to do it anyway for peace of mind and the beauty. We also decided to get new gutters at the same time b/c they were so inexpensive (they sold them to us basically at "cost" and threw in the labor) and they are the cool "no seam"/continuous gutters. We had 3-4 roofers come out to give us bids - and we liked Larry Haight the very best. He wasn't the least expensive, or the most - kinda right in the middle, to low-middle - but what we loved is their professionalism, time spent during the estimate to educate us, explain everything they'd do top to bottom, etc. We felt like he was a "great guy", had a passion for the roofing business and customer service & satisfaction. We felt we were getting first class service and product without overpaying. A couple days before the roof tear-off was to begin, they actually mailed a letter to all our neighbors giving them a heads-up about potential loud noises, apologizing in advance - along with a set of ear-plugs!!! how thoughtful! (and GREAT marketing idea!) Another great thing they did, just b/c we agreed to keep their small sign posted in our front garden for a week (saying that they did our roof) was to re-do the roof of the mail box "station" right in front of our house that keeps 5 neighborhood mailboxes. It had a cedar shingle roof that was old - so they replaced it for free - making it alll beautiful again! We asked them to tell us if we needed more insulation - so they waited till the old roof was off so they could get a good look. They were very honest and said what we had was great. We *could* get additional insulation if we were really gangbusters about having a heavily insulated house - but no need at all. So we did pass on that. We decided to spend a couple hundred dollars extra to replace the old skylights. They told us there were fine, but did warn us that when taking them off as they did to remove/replace a roof and then reinstalling them, the seals are more vulnurable to leak earlier than "normal" had they not been touched. So, the peace of mind was worth around a hundred bucks a pop (if I remember the pricing correctly - this was just over a year ago). They did a great job respecting our landscaping/spaces, etc and making sure to fully clean-up each day and post-job. Overall - a WONDERFUL experience! I highly recommend them to anybody!

The previous owners of our house had done the unthinkable - their own roofing and gutter installation. We didn't notice the issues until we had moved in and experienced the first deluge of rain. The ladies and gentlemen at Larry Haight were responsive and fast. They came out and gave us a quote with photos within days. We scheduled the work and they came on time, did a great job and dealt with a few "unseen" issues in a professional and cost effective manner. I would highly recommend their work!

I assumed that the man sent to provide an estimate was an estimator. It appears that he was only a salesman, because his estimate was not based on an inspection. He did not suggest looking at my roof or attic until I suggested that he do so, and them made only a cursory visual inspection. His estimate was $12,000. The salesman told me that the final cost might be higher if any complications arose in the course of the replacement work. He also told me that I should cover anything stored in the attic because bits of old roof inevitably fell through the roof-raters in the course or work. In the event, the on-site foreman told me after work had begun that there were three layers of old roof to be disposed of rather than the two upon which the estimate was made. It seems to me that any professional inspection of the roof should have revealed this fact. There were also areas of the supporting structure which proved rotten which needed replacement. In all, the final price was over $17,000, over 40% more than the estimate. I consider this an unsatisfactory outcome--not because of the cost, but because of the lack of accuracy in the matter of how many roof layers would need to be removed. I asked the crew chief by telephone to contact my neighbors apprising them of when the work was to be done. He did not do so, and when work began, the crew installed protective materials on both adjoining property without notifying the respective property owners. I am still coping with the bad blood this created with my neighbors. I have no complaint about how the crew cleaned up after itself outside. When I checked the attic, though, I discovered it deluged in dirt and wood fragments to a depth of an inch or more. When I called the company, I was informed that the company took no responsibility for removal of this debris (over a hundred pounds of it) and that I had been warned that this would be the case. I do not consider the saleperson's mention that debris "might" fall into the attic was adequate, nor was it fair, in that it failed to include the proviso "and you will be responsible for the cleaning up of and the cost of disposing of said debris." A number of other contractors have rolled their eyes in disbelief when told of this lack of candor. I am in no position to evaluate the quality of the materials used nor whether the roof will in fact last the 30 years promised in the warranty. I can vouch for the rough and careless way the roof was attached, with bare nails sticking through the interior of the roof as often as they managed to intersect the rafter they were aimed at. All in all, I think that the Haight company did a careless job on my property, and that the salesperson's lack of candor and selective language in describing possible eventualities render it unworthy of the high ratings it has received in the past.

They responded promptly unlike other roofing companies that either did not respond, or said they were so booked up they wouldn't be able to get to my repair. He arrived when he said he would, and looked for the source of the leak. He said there was a lot of leaf litter on the roof (which was true) and he explained how water was backing up underneath the shingles. He suggested I clean the roof before paying for a repair, so that's what I did, and sure enough the leak stopped. I appreciated his honesty.

We acquired a 4-plex that was in dire need of a new roof and the drainage system needed to be redesigned, to avoid previous leaking from an old outdated system. We knew it wasn't going to be easy to find a company with expertise in both, but we were very lucky after eight bids, to find Larry Haights Roofing. They are the ultimate BEST. They are an EXCELLENT company with very knowledgeable, wonderful, and skilled employees. We were truly blessed to find them. One major thing I learned along the way, is that you have to be very careful with the contracts that roofing companies want you to sign. Especially if a company uses sub-contractors. If a company uses sub-contractors to do their work, and you pay the company after the job is completed, if you have not paid attention to the contract, you might be liable for paying the subs if the company does not pay them, even though you have already paid the company. Be very CAREFUL about the contracts you sign. With Haights Roofing, they do not use subs, so you don't have to worry about that fact. George and Chris are the ultimate professionals. They are both very knowledgeable, dependable and great to work with. We couldn't have been happier with the completed job. The 4-plex is beautiful. The overall experience with this company during this huge project was absolutely flawless, along with a great warranty. We are very impressed and are still saying how lucky we were to find this company. They truly are the best company out there. We would recommend them to anyone and everyone. You will not be disappointed. Not only do they do a great, professional job, they are VERY reasonable and very dependable. They did an excellent job for a very FAIR price. They are without a doubt, the best company. I also want to say that without Angie's List we would never have found them. Angie's List has been such a wonderful tool for us during our eight month renovation. We are so happy to have joined Angie's List. Thank you, Angie!
Description of Work: Haight's Roofing installed a new roof on a 4-plex built in 1959, along with a new roof on an adjoining carport. They also installed new gutters and downspouts on the building and carport to accommodate a redesigned system, that will handle the amount of rain we accumulate in Seattle.

I am very disappointed in Larry Haight?s roofing. I called to request a bid to re-roof our house . Chris came by and did the assessment. He was prompt, very knowledgeable and entertained all questions we had. I was impressed. Then several days later, we got the informational package. Since we believe in getting multiple bids, we were in the process of getting bids from 2 other companies. Two Sundays before Thanksgiving, there was a heavy rain storm and a significant leak started around one of our skylights. On Monday, we called to ask if someone could come to evaluate and repair. At first they said they were really busy with roof repairs and may not be able to come out the same day, however, after telling them that we had a recent re-roofing assessment with them, they sent someone out immediately. Mike showed up promptly. He came inside to look at the leak and immediately identified that it was a skylight problem and not a roof problem. He climbed onto the roof and opened up the skylight and found the skylight was improperly installed. There was a rubber flap at the end that was not draped over the adjacent flashing resulting in water leaking behind the flashing rather than off the front of the flashing. He went to his truck, grabbed a hooking tool and pulled the flap out and correctly laid it over the flashing. The repair itself took less than 5 minutes and he came and left in less than 30 minutes. He said normally a service call would be around $300 but he couldn?t charge me that much for such a quick repair. He was apologetic and said he had to charge me a minimum of $150 with tax. He then said if there was any other problems with the leak to just give them a call. I was impressed with his knowledge, kindness, and integrity. Unfortunately, the following weekend, with heavy rain, the leak started again in the same location. Monday, I called Larry Haight?s roofing and the lady answering the phones said they would find someone to call me back. By Monday afternoon I haven?t heard from them and I called back again. They said the lady handling my file was out to lunch and will call back when she returned. Tuesday the manager/VP that was handling my repair and reroofing bid finally called back. He refused to send anyone else to come out to repair the leak, even though the job was incomplete the first time. I reiterated that Mike, who initially tried to fix it, said he was willing to come back to repair this if it continued to leak. Again the manager/VP at Larry Haight?s roofing continued to argue with me stating that there was nothing more they could do, insisting the skylight had to be replaced, and the only thing they would do was to tarp my skylight. I told them that I just wanted someone to come out and take a second look to see if there was anything else obvious they could see to fix the leak. He refused. Finally I requested the manager/VP to contact Mike, the guy who initially tried to fix the leak, to call me. He agreed. I didn?t hear back from anyone on Wednesday (or ever again). By Thursday, on Thanksgiving, the weather finally cleared. Not knowing when I would hear back from Larry Haight?s roofing, I decided to go up to the roof myself and open up the skylight to see if there was something obvious that may be contributing to the leak. I noticed where the metal corners of the skylight meet, the rubber gasket was worn down on the side of the leak compared to intact rubber gasket on the opposite corner. I put a small bead of caulk over the corner with the worn out rubber gasket and hoped for the best. Heavy rain came again on Friday and to our relief the caulking did the job. I was very surprised and extremely disappointed that Larry Haight?s would not stand behind the quality of their work. Before this incident, we were impressed with the interactions we?ve had with Chris and Mike, who were both professional and knowledgeable. We had planned to choose them to roof our home at a price of over $22,000. They were more expensive than the other companies but we were lead to believe that they stood for ?hard work, honesty, and reliability through customer service and treating people fairy?. It was very unfortunate because we really enjoyed working with Chris and Mike. I think they have a great crew on the ground but I am concerned about their management. It could have been a simple fix and they would have won our roofing contract. Unfortunately, they did not stand behind their work with this incomplete repair job. In addition, their refusal to address our concerns, made me question their warranty on workmanship. I don't believe I can trust them to install our roof, in case future problems arise. With their attitude towards their customers, I don?t even know if they will be in business for 30-50 years to guarantee their warranty. There are many other great roofers on Angie?s list and we will be using one of them.

I truly don't understand why people feel the need to try and hurt other people, especially their hard earned reputation. We have been in business since 1985 under the same name, license number and ownership. Here are the facts: 1. This homeowner called us for a new roof bid on September 4, 2012. We inspected their roof and explained to them that their cedar shake roof was beyond repairing and should be replaced. Every skylight on their roof was showing signs of condensation and we explained that these skylights should be replaced during the roof replacement. 2. We never heard back from this customer until they called us on November 12, 2012 complaining about a leak in their roof. We went out the same day and found that one of their skylights was leaking. We explained what we found to the homeowner and gave them a price to fix the skylight. We told the homeowner that this work has no guarantee. The homeowner agreed and signed our paperwork accepting the price of $150.00. We also told them if they decided to use us to replace their roof then we would give them back their money for the repair. 3. The homeowner called us back a week later to report another leak and wanted us to come back out. We explained to them that the skylight should be replaced. They did not want to replace the skylight so we said that we could tarp it for them. We were not going to charge them for the tarp because they told us that they were going to have us replace their roof within the next month. 4. The homeowner did not want us to tarp the skylight nor did they want us to replace the skylight. They wanted us to come back out and look at the skylight again. We told them that we could not come back out because we did not have anyone available. Plus, we had already been out to their house on three separate occasions. 5. The comments that these people made about MY Company are totally false. We have been in business for over 28 years under the same name and license. We have won many awards and maintain an A+ rating with the BBB! 6. We sent this customer an invoice on 11/13/2012 and they still have not paid us.

He is certainly not cheap, but he has on the schedule for the last week of November. I've had about nine roofers up here and they just came through like hotcakes. And they all came in about the same range, about $9000 or $10000. And then Jason of Pinnacle Roofing came by, he was roofer number eight, and he walked on the roof and said there is something spongy there. So he opened up the attic for me and then he found two pieces of plywood which were installed pointing the wrong direction. Because he was the first who had mentioned this, I decided to call another roofer. George Bear at Haight's Roofing came over and he said that's what it is and that we'll have to put in new plywood down where is was mislayed. So Pinnacle and Haight both gave me a bid and it just happened that George Bear knew the guy who had put the roof on my house before, twenty-five years ago, and he knew Jason and Lenny from Pinnacle Roofing because he had trained them. He was just real grounded and I thought I'd rather go with a person who had a very long and strong history, which is Haight's Roofing, and also had a very strong administrative infrastructure process. So that is how I came to the conclusion.

Our initial start date was delayed a week due to additional work uncovered on their previous job, but this was okay. Due to mis-communication, materials were delivered to our roof too early by their supplier. Larry Haight asked them to remove it as they did not want the materials on the roof that early and prior to any work being done (a sign they like doing their work right). Larry Haight arrived on time on Friday morning to start the project, and all went well. Randy met with me on Friday to go over the project and to explain problems that were uncovered, and I also met the person who would be inspecting the work (one of their best, I was told). They worked all day Friday and Saturday. They ran short of some materials and had to return on Monday for about two hours. The inspector worked with me to find a convenient time when no clients were in the building. The inspector met with a co-worker to go over the final review. Additional nails were used on the car decking to provide stability, and this took several extra hours. Some of the tongue-and-groove also had to be replaced due to rot. The inspector also looked at the insulation in our A-frame building to make sure it met his expectations. Their office staff kept me very informed on when they would arrive or that they would be delayed, and this was very helpful. Everyone on their team works to make sure the project goes well, and I appreciate this.
Description of Work: The roof at the building where I work needed to be replaced. Half of the roof was already removed from a previous leak and was covered with some kind of temporary sheeting. The other half still had inexpensive roofing material. I received two quotes from highly recommended Angie's List reviews. I've used Larry Haight on my personal residence. The other company came with a lower quote sent by email, but they did not offer to meet with me or talk with me about the job. I did not meet anyone from that 2nd company. Randy from Larry Haight came out to present the quote to me (I've worked with Randy before). He went over the work and the type of roof on the building. The building had a car-decking roof (tongue and groove) and needed to be covered first with plywood to provide stability to the roofing material. Without the plywood stability, this could have been one cause of previous leaking. I know Larry Haight does a thorough, do-it-right job, so I went with them and convinced my boss they were the right company. The roof received a new layer of plywood and a new composition roof. Gutters did not need to be replaced. Randy offered to do the work on a weekend, even though they don't normally work on weekends, to reduce the disruption to our business. This was later changed to start on a Friday so they can order additional materials if problems occurred after they removed the existing roof. There were some rot problems and improper nailing of the car-decking, so this did take additional materials and time.

Called for estimate. Estimator came as schedule a week and a half afterwards (two other contractors showed up within 3 days of the call) Estimator spent about 2 hrs, then presented proposal. Proposal was 1.5x as expensive as the contractor we went with, for essentially the same work, the same materials, warranty, so we declined
Description of Work: We had estimate made for reroofing our ~4000 sf home. We had 4 estimates made. Two estimates came out in the 24-26k$ range. We did not choose Larry Haight because their estimate was about 1.5x that of these two estimates. The other contractor estimated about the same as LH. LH took much longer to come out to make the estimate (busy schedule perhaps). The proposed work, approach, materials, and warranty were all about the same as the other two (and I went to each proposal line by line). Larry Haight's staff and proposal were impressive but not much different from the other two. So given the high price (and longer projected time) it was impossible to justify the large difference (the fourth company had a high price and a hand-scribbled proposal so that one was out rightaway). We were eventually very happy with the contractor we went with (pro-roofing)

They were really very nice and honest. I chose a different company. I think I might have made a mistake.

Duirng the 4 days it took to install the new roof, the superintendent came by daily to make sure the work was being done satisfactorily, the premises were kept clean and we were being taken care of. Late one night, because of our concerns during an intense rainstorm, the superintendent responded to our call, came out, climbed up on the roof and inspected the work. All was well! The firm runs a first class operation and we have recommended them to others and we cannot say enough about how well they took care of us, how well the work was performed and our safisfaction.
Description of Work: A roof vent began leaking and they responded with an estimate (very reasonable compared to the other firm that looked at the problem) and discovered that the roofing on our 8 year old house was defective. The manufacturer had supplied improperly fabircated shingles when the house was built. Larry Haight Residential Roofing contacted the manufacturer and obtained new roofing that was installed at absolutely no cost to us.

good roofing job, highly recommend.
Description of Work: I was surprised at how expensive to roof our house, but the job was great and the roof looks great. My only surprise is what it cost.

The experience was different, since most of the other companies were able to provide an estimate on the spot, but they came out to take a look, and I had to call them in order to try to get the estimates from them. We ended up getting the estimate, but it wasn’t timely.
Description of Work: They provided an estimate for a full roof replacement.

Terrible experience. First the man was out of town and I was told he would call me wed or thurs of the next week. I had to call them thursday to get someone to respond. When he did come out he did not have the things necessary to provide me with an estimate. I told him I needed it by the next day and he said they would have it ready in the morning. Morning came and they did not have time to provide me with a written estimate. I told them thank you very much and called the other contractor. I guess they had too much work and didn't need mine.
Description of Work: Only had them out to do an estimate.

Response from Larry Haight's Residential Roofing Co
I believe this member must be thinking of someone else and if not has their facts mixed up. The following is the TRUTH: 1. This member called our office for a new roof bid on 8/13/12 at 11:30 am. During this call we explained to the member that an estimator would be coming out to measure their roof and that this person does not have any pricing information. A sales appointment was set for 8/17/12 2. My estimator received the paper work on 8/14/12 and measured the roof on 8/16/12 since the sales appointment that the HOMEOWNER made was for 8/17/12 3. The homeowner called and canceled the sales appointment on 8/17/12, we never had an opportunity to talk with her. If the homeowner was in a hurry, we could have met her on 8/16/12 The total turn around time from the time the homeowner called to the time we measured their roof was 2.5 days, pretty good for being in the middle of the summer!

First day they delivered dumpster, ripped off roof, put on plywood sub roof, laid felt.Second day carpenter did skylight but not left open to sky that day and roof installed completely.Third day gutters were installed and carpenter continued working on skylight that was now open and the light is simply amazing and bright and a dream job.Dumpster removed that evening.Fourth day carpenter for soffetts (15), and more work on skylight. Fifth day carpenter a few more hours on skylight and then finalday carpenter sanded, textured skylight. Then came back when I had exhaust fan installed and painted the skylight (at my request as I had guests arriving.)
Description of Work: I chose the highest bid! The reasons: Best review, highly recommended by Mr Handyman SE Bellevueand amazing reviews on-line. When I saw their bid so completedown to the sq ft coverage drawings f my roof, and they addressed all possible problems areas and told me what would be extra I hired them to completely take my roof down to the level on which they installed new solid sub roof, then install a new 30 yr roof. They installed a new skylight above my newly remodeled bathroomthat is a true work of beauty. They removed old gutters and installed new continuous not rusting painted gutters with mesh filter. These are really beautiful and the fastenings are inside so no ugly attachments outside, just looks like part of roof edge. Lovely. They came when expected, they notified me each day what next day schedule would be, the operations mgr for the project came by every day to check on the job and keep me informed. They cleaned up after themselves each day and my yard actually looked better after they left than when they arrived! One day I could not be there and had no qualms letting them go ahead anddo the bit of work needed while my dog was home. No problem at all. They are simply the best!

No service was performed as I called serveral times and left messages but never received a call back. Needless to say if they can't do the bare minimum of calling back a customer, I would hate to rely and feel confident on the actual work needed.

I believe that this member must have us confused with another company. We have no record (we record EVERY call) of this person calling or emailing us. I am sorry that this person, whoever they called did not get the service they were hoping for. If they actually call us then we would be happy to come out and look at their roof.
