Larry Haight was very professional. An estimator came out and surveyed the roof including taking pictures. Then Randy May from Haight met with me for an hour explaining their very detailed estimate. They actually gave me 3 estimates depending on my choice of shingle grade. Randy was very helpful and I learned a lot about roofing. In the end I decided to go with another company partly due to price difference and partly due the fact they had come out earlier in an emergency and done a great job fixing a leak in the roof.

This is a very organized company that pays a lot of attention to customer service. There was one change order. It was necessary and presented with a thorough explanation. The job was well organized. A very nice crew came, did their job, and cleaned up. Each day a supervisor checked the work and talked to me about what was being done. I am impressed.

I think they did a good job. They did a nice job of working with me. It hadn't been done for a while that is why they take up two roofs and the way it was done originally and the way they did it and that they do it now there was some additional work that needed to be done to bring it up to standards and it worked out. They were on time. They coordinated nicely. Their clean up was very good. The people that I dealt with from workers to the bidding and what have you they were all very professional. I would use them again.

The quote provided seemed high. In addition, the material selected for the roof would have been quite ugly (PVC membrane roof, would clash horribly with other areas of the roof). It was not noted in the quote or really explained how ugly this roof would be. I contacted Four Seasons roofing and they provided a different quote for $1000 less and using a metal roof. When I asked the provider about metal material instead they said it would be an additional $1000. Thus, their quote was 160% of the second quote. I used my MICROSOFT work email address when requesting the quote. I believe this company was trying to charge me the "Microsoft tax" which appears to be quite common up here in the Seattle area for tech workers. For the competing quote I did not use my Microsoft work email address as the method of communication. To their credit, the provider was very polite when I explained I went with a different vendor. I've experienced quite rude replies from other contractors when rejecting their quotes and going with a different vendor. I was expecting the same from this provider and was very much pleasantly surprised. Perhaps if I hadn't used my Microsoft email address the quote would have been much more reasonable... The negative ratings were price because of the high quote and quality because the poor visual appearance of the proposed PVC membrane roof was not communicated in the quote -- I didn't understand the appearance would be so bad until the second company worked down the quote with me. Once I did ask for different roofing options they quoted the metal roof at an additional $1000. They also provided pictures of completed PVC membranes roof projects they have done when I communicated I didn't think I was going to be happy with the outcome.
Description of Work: I didn't use this provider for reasons noted in the details below.

Let me first start off by asking what is a "Microsoft Tax" and to insinuate that we would charge more because of where someone works is crazy. I can appreciate someone not liking a certain material that we were offering or our price does not fit in a budget but let's not make things up. We have been serving the Eastside since 1985 and NEVER play games.

They were outstanding! They were the second most expensive, but they also offered more services such as gutters, new fascia boards, and a few other things. The project manager did a great job and I have no complaints except a slight delay in scheduling the work. In terms of overall value, they were definitely the best choice. They finished in less than a week! I'd recommend them to anyone else who needs good, high-quality work done.

I want to preface this: the review has nothing to do with their workmanship but rather their service. I was collecting bids for a new roof. I have the simplest roof on the planet - it's literally an upside down V and looks like the roof of a house that I used to draw as a kid - so I expected a pretty straightforward process. Here's how I expected it to go. I call, schedule a time with an estimator, and they give me a bid in a day or 2. Lather, rinse, repeat. Here's how it really went. I called. Somebody who did not have the ability to schedule time with the estimator answered, told me that a scheduler would call me back. A few hours later a scheduler called me back. I scheduled time with a sales consultant or something of that ilk about a week later. The actual estimator would come to my house and take measurements sometime between the end of our phone call and the time of my sales appointment. Great, 1 more phone call than I prefer but no big deal. Big day finally comes, I'm so excited. I show up to meet my sales consultant 2 minutes early. He's late. I'm not surprised. My place is kind of hard to find, maybe the GPS led him astray. 10 minutes passes. Ok, maybe he got the wrong address, so I call the office. Person picks up and tells me she'll find out where the sales guy is. Calls me back a few minutes later and says his previous appointment that start 2 hours and 10 minutes earlier ran late. He'll be there in 20 minutes. So all in all 35 minutes late. Sorry, I can't stick around. Asks me to reschedule. At this point I have a handful of bids in my pocket already and I'm not super impressed that the sales person didn't care to inform me that he was running, you know, extraordinarily late. I ask them to mail the bid to me. Nope, they don't roll that way. Ok well thanks but no thanks then. I made a comment about them not being punctual and got a pretty rude response in return. I know the company looks at Angies List reviews. I get that things happen and schedules can be hard to keep up with, but it's not too much to expect a heads up. If a customer is willing to pay your company thousands of dollars for a service, the least you could provide is a little courtesy and consideration of their time. In my mind if you don't care enough to let me know you're going to be more than a half hour late to an appointment, then you didn't care enough to earn my business.

Response from Larry Haight's Residential Roofing Co
As this member pointed out, we do like to respond to our reviews. We take all reviews very serious. We do agree that time is precious. The reality of this situation was the appointment prior to this members went long and by the time our salesman got into his vehicle to call, this member called us. Not knowing the situation we contacted our salesman and he told us that he just go into his truck and was about to call this person letting them know he was running late. We then contacted the member back to explain what had happened and this member felt "disrespected" and wanted us to just mail him our proposal (which was what he wanted in the first place). We explained to him that we don't mail our proposals. This member then told us no thank you. Again, we understand being frustrated and we're sorry but let's not embellish the situation.

Their estimator was able to visit immediately when I discovered the leak, although he wasn't able to spot the source of the leak due to debris on the roof from the same storm a couple of days earlier that had caused the damage. This was no fault of the estimator's - it was a wild storm that left a heck of a lot of debris. I had a roof cleaner (different company) come out to remove the debris a couple of days later, and he spotted the damage that was causing the leak (as well as some other non-leaking shingle damage elsewhere). My roof cleaner doesn't do repairs but was able to put a temporary patch in place. The estimator from Larry Haight's Roofing was able to return rapidly and re-inspect the now-visible damage and write up an estimate. Their office scheduled a repair team to come out a couple of weeks later and do the permanent repair work; they came out within the estimated time frame and did the work. The repair appears to have fixed the problem; I haven't been able to personally inspect the repair because I don't have the equipment to get to that part of the roof myself, but it was a relatively straightforward repair. and there's been no sign of further leakage, so I assume it was done properly. I was very happy with the responsiveness of the estimator - he was able to come out on short notice both times, I think the same day on the second call, and offered good information and advice. I'm not quite as happy with the lead time required for the work itself, and especially the scheduling process - but I should point out that I talked to several other roofers, and LHRR's lead time was on par with to somewhat better than the others, so comparatively they rate well. The main area where I was disappointed and surprised was that they conduct their entire scheduling process by postal mail. This is kind of amazing in the Internet age, and adds unnecessary delay. It took four or five days from the estimator's visit just to get on the schedule. I had to wait for the estimator's written proposal to arrive in the mail, then mail it back to approve the work and pay a deposit. They couldn't even pencil me into their schedule before they got my reply in the mail. I was somewhat anxious about the problem, since I only had a temporary patch and it was the rainy season, so I found this protracted scheduling process frustrating. Also, they would only give me a ballpark on their current work backlog, not an actual date when the work would be done. This wasn't a logistical problem, since the repair crew didn't need me at the house, but the lack of an exact date was a little unnerving. Again, I don't want to sound overlay negative here - LHRR's lead times seemed somewhat better than par among their peers, and they did the work within the time frame originally estimated, so the end result was good. I just would have preferred a more modern and transparent scheduling process, and perhaps some more aggressive prioritization based on the relative urgency of the problem to be repaired (although for all I know, all of the other jobs ahead of mine might have been equally urgent).
Description of Work: Fixed a leak in the roof, and fixed a couple of (non-leaking) broken shingles.

Great initial engagement on quality of their service and justification of higher than average cost. Somewhat lacking in engagement between selection and beginning of installation. Took some time to coordinate visit via the front office. Took some time to send the estimate Took some time to receive invoices That said, the estimator was amazingly professional, approachable and honest. Work was done on time, to estimate, and to the work order. Definitely would recommend these folks. Just be aware that paperwork may take some time. Also, they only take cash or cheques, which is somewhat inconvenient, but a small issue in the big picture I suppose. Recommended.

They called back several weeks later, but I already had my estimates and had decided. If they even had come and made an estimate I would have considered them, but when they say it will be several weeks before they would even make an estimate, I wouldn't choose someone who didn't seem interested. I had to wait till November to have the new gutters, but Sound Roofing was right there to make an estimate after I called and so was Gutter King.

Sorry this member feels the need to give us a bad review because we were HONEST! According to our records, this person called us needing new gutters. We explained to them that due to our work backlog, it would be two weeks before we could get to their house. At this time, this person said ok and asked us to call them prior to heading out to their house. A few weeks later when we were able to estimate their gutters, we called and were told that someone else had already completed the work.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. To clarify, we replaced the existing gutters in certain sections around this members house in 2012. Last spring, a drip was discovered behind the gutters because the older shake roof was not installed properly and additional flashing was needed. We gave this member a price to fix this situation in May and have not heard from them. We completed our initial scope of work and everything works well. The added work was not due to our workmanship.

The work is excellent. I was especially pleased by the little details such as ensuring the gutters extended a bit beyond the corner of the house in order to catch all of the water (something our previous gutters did not do) and having clean, well positioned downspouts. My only wish is that they used email for contact information since during work hours I do not always have access to a phone. When I could call and talk they were quick to take action.

They did a very good job. The only reservation was the shingle color was off but that was not their fault it is just very hard to match due to wear of the other shingles. They did the job timely and they were very responsive I had a painting job scheduled and wanted the roof repaired before they could paint and they were very accommodating. Mike was friendly and professional and gave us a good and competitive bid for the standard 'K' style gutters [most common profile]. I had several friendly conversations with the office person. We used another company only because we preferred the less-common 'J' or wide fascia gutters and Larry Haight's company only installs the K style. Their bid was competitive and if we did not have a strong preference for the other style wwe would have given them the job.
Description of Work: Mike Apple of Larry Haight's Residential Roofing came out at the appointed time and gave us a detailed bid to replace our sagging gutters. We were in direr need, as they all chose to fail, sag, fall off, etc. at once and were well down into the fall when this happened!!

Larry Haight's Residential Roofing (LHRR) is very process oriented from the initial contact to the final billing. Because of this, their people have a good understanding of how an entire job works. This reduces uncertainty from the perspective of the homeowner. I appreciated the work of their estimator Mike Apple; their sales contract person George Bear; and their operations manager Chris Brockman. Each of them was very professional, personable and knowledgeable. Each was happy to answer all my questions and each was respectful. The on-site crew that did the heavy lifting was polite and hard working. Over the course of the job, there were some problems that occurred. A truck broke down and delayed the start of the job by a day. A different truck had to be towed away at my home when it broke down, a window was broken and there was a problem with some of the materials. In my opinion, these kinds of things will happen in construction activities of this nature. In all these cases, LHRR resolved the problem on a timely basis and did not try to make their problem my problem. I appreciated their taking appropriate responsibility. The on-site crew could have been a bit more "self-aware" as it related to the appearance of the work site when they left for the day; however, when the job was complete, they did a good job cleaning up the area. I was on-site when the work was being done and I found it easy to deal with the people and the issues that developed on-site. I have every reason to believe that the quality of their final work is top-notch. LHRR's bid was not the lowest I received, but I had confidence in their work based on a referral from a neighbor and reviews on Angie's list. Their final bill contained no surprises and was exactly equal to their bid. Now that I have used them, I would have no hesitation in using them again or referring them to a friend. I am happy with their work, and just as important, I am confident that if there is a problem that develops in the future with their work, that they will fix it and make it good.

The sales presentation put our mind at ease. However, once they had our money their communication and follow through was not what we expected. Sometimes a customer just wants to feel heard and therefore feel important. They told us the soffit venting we had was insufficient (I disagree but their the experts) and told us we could do it ourselves or have their "professional carpenters" (the soffits are aluminum not wood) do it and split the cost. Wanting it to be done nice we had their people do it. They don't look professional like we expected and planned to point it out on the "walk around" that never did happen. Wanting to let Larry know our concerns we asked for his e-mail. However, they wouldn't give us his e-mail address. The job has been finished well over a month now. Feeling like a call would not be well received, we hesitated. We finally called on 8-29. We see the outside (from inside the garage) where the roof seems to have a bump in it. I noticed it right away but thought we could wait for the final walk through. They have yet to return our call and don't feel like an important customer to them. As a follow up. Michael Haight came out and met with us. He was very understanding with all our concerns and we appreciated that. Nothing really can be done with the vents that were installed but he did offer to try a larger vent. The bump in the garage roof I believe was a warped piece of plywood that has been replaced.

1st day, roof tear off and then lay down new felt, total lack of supervision. back wall area above my chair and window had a down pour of rain in the afternoon, a worker layed the feltwith the overlap going the wrong direction ,when it rained the back wall between my new blinds and window was a waterfall of water, chair, carpet, window all soaking wet, next morning the supervisor was in my house doing damage control. poor at best.next was carpenters working on the chiminey facade and bird blocks couldnot put anything on strait with the exsisting structure. also had lots of cigerette but filters all over area, not to mention tons of nails that they failed to pick up, also while putting in bird blocks ,broke a security camera mount ,then taped it with silver duct tape, not saying a word about it,until I went to straiten the camera and found it. next was the clean up of the work area, 1 guy ,with a dog eared magnet drug it around for 10 minuets around house then beat feet home.that made me feel uneasy, so I ordered my own magnet ,had it flown in, went around the area around my house and found 1 half a gallon bag of nails ,screws. nails, the worst insult was when confronted with this unprofessional behavior , it was my fault for finding these discrepantcies and a month later the supervisor brought out his crew of 10 guys to walk 5 magnets around the house.no corrective action , so I called the vice president/ salesman he gave me a lot of song and dance, still no results. I still pick up trash every day in my yard, still to this day , lots of non magnetic nails. my opinion is that for all the glitz that they publish in there brochure, they lack serious follow thru.I think if the president knew that his people that he employs are destroying his dream of providing premeire service to his customers, not protecting there relatives and freinds. thats how companies go under.

Response from Larry Haight's Residential Roofing Co
The only correct thing that this member stated is that we replaced his roof. This member did fail to mention that he threatened members of our roofing crew and threw a metal object at our operations manager. In our 29 years of business we have never experienced a person like this.

We recently had a new roof put on by Larry Haight's Roofing Company. We were completely satisfied with the type of roofing material used and the needed repairs they did and would rate the company a '10+' in all areas starting from the time of the appointment to the Salesman who examined the roof, took pictures of problem areas in order to give an accurate estimate, to the Operations Manager and the Roofing Foreman and outstanding crew that did the work. Things were explained and our questions were answered daily making sure we understood what was happening. The crews work was impeccable. Every detail was checked to make sure everything was completed as promised and at the end of each day the job site was thoroughly cleaned. We truly believe we got the 'Best of the Best' when we chose Larry Haight's Roofing Company to replace our roof.
Description of Work: Replaced existing roof with superior materials and made necessary repairs.
